The Gnostic Prequels
When I watched Return of the Jedi, I didn't think the Emperor was a Senator 15 years ago, summering with the Kennedys on Nantucket in the Summer - he was an ancient evil. When I thought about "the Clone Wars" I imagined an epic and decades-long battle. I wanted so badly to know Owen's history with Anakin and with Obi Wan, until I saw the prequels and learned that he met them just once. I often felt bad for Luke in a way, knowing that it was decided for him that he would go to Tatooine with his uncle, while Leia was lucky enough to have spent her earliest years with her real mother. Then I was told that the twins' mother died during childbirth. Remember, when she slapped names on the children of the most powerful jedi who ever lived? I had always wondered how those special children received those names, who and what they were named for. While you could argue that it was another of Obi Wan's "truths in a manner of speaking," it was really important in my eyes that Lukes lightsaber was truly a gift from his father. That gave it weight, made it magical. I always wondered as a kid how Anakin turned and still left a gift for his son, when in the timeline he entrusted that task to Obi Wan. The prequels took the easy way out and ignored everything tclassic trilogy said about its past. They also gave us a whiny, arrogant, and angry Anakin, with an unbelievable fall to the dark side. That's just not good drama. Anakin shoulda been the best man who ever lived. We should have been made to love him. Only at the end of the prequels should Anakin have been stressed to the point of snapping. White to black, instead of grey to black. The fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Really, he should be a mirror of Luke in his trilogy, but Anakin succumbs when facing the Emperor where Luke does not. I digress. I could go on for hours. In any case, I'm excited like it's 1999:
Thoughts? I've read posts on other forums from people who are ANGRY about this and people who can't wait to read it...

This is more suited to a non-writing forum, such as the Writer's Resource. This forum is for stories rather than opinions.
