	Title :The Proposal Characters: Anakin Padme Time frame: Post AOTC Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars I didn’t visit Anakin in the hospital. It would of looked suspicious so I sent Dorme to inquire after him. For all appearances our relationship was purely professional. I was calmly preparing for my return to Naboo. The Queen wished to speak to me about the war. Travel in war time is dangerous so I sent a request to the Jedi council for Anakin’s protection on my way home. The request was granted and all I had to do was wait for him to recover. Dorme informed me that the Physicians had replaced his right arm with a cybernetic one. This meant we would be detained for a week while he healed and learned to control it. In the mean time I sat in the senate, received visitors and attended parties. Flirting with the men young and old as if nothing had happened. I never mentioned Anakin unless they did and then I had trained myself not to react at his name. My grandmother use to say that if I hadn’t been a politician I would have been an actress. Now I am both. I was standing by the window thinking about my Ani when Dorme announced his arrival. “ Jedi Skywalker is here to see you Milady.” “ Let him in.” I turned around as he shyly approached me. “Padme…” he took my hand and kissed each one of my knuckles. Turning it over he kissed the palm before pressing it to his cheek. “ Have you’re feelings altered since Geonosis?” “No,” “Nor have mine.” He kissed me instinctively caressing my face with his right hand. The cold metal shocked me. I flinched away. He stepped back hiding his arm in his sleeve. “Anakin let me see it.” He didn’t answer but looked at the ground. “ Anakin, Dorme told me they had given you a cybernetic replacement. How does it feel?” “Cold and dead,” he spat out. In the silence that followed he flexed his fingers. I could hear the whrrrr of the mechanisms and clicking as his metal fingers made contact with what should have been a palm. I stepped towards him and wrapped my arms around his waist.. “Anakin have you heard of you’re new mission?” He nodded. “ After my meeting with the Queen we can go to Varykino . 	Nice. I liked Anakin's reaction to his arm: "cold and dead"... And it makes sense that Padme would recoil at first sight of it. It would read a lot better if there were spaces between paragraphs, though. 	leia_naberrie yeh it’s a bit jerky at places & needs a bit more fine tuning but I got sick of editing it. KELIA thanks Gina thanks Meredith_Kenobi I try! AnakinLuver I forgot about the roboclaw until I got to my second draft ! anakin_luver yeh, I’m going for the “ I hate my robo limbs approach” the EU novels & comics are a bit inconsistent with this. In one book he likes his arm & in the other he cant stand it I was trying to go for a ‘Jane Austen’ approach ie no direct “ will you marry me?” Anakin’s “ have you’re feelings altered” was inspired by Mr Darcy in P&P. I didn’t want to have the usual “Anakin I-” reaction & Padme ‘proposing’ just happened. I didn’t intend to write a reverse proposal.
