Title: "The Prisoner"
Characters: Vader & OC
Summary: One of Vaders very few acts of mercy.
Wordcount: 426

The cells of detention block 1138 were opened and its hundreds of prisoners marched out, each looking a little scared. They stood in the doorways of their cells with a guard on either side.

The Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, inspected the pathetic traitors one by one. They were pale and thin and not only a few bore the marks of interrogation.

Vader paused in front of a small dark haired woman with frightened green eyes, her hands clutched protectively over her swollen stomach. Vader turned to the lieutenant. “ Who is this woman?”

“ Lady Luz Aiden, wife of the late Lord Spiridon, who was recently executed for aiding the rebel alliance.”

“ How long has she been here?”

“ About four months, she is scheduled for execution.”

“What!”

“ After she gives birth of corse.”

“ My Lord, what will happen to my child?,” She whispered, now visibly trembling. Her aspect and conditioned resurfaced memories Vader struggled every day to bury.

“You’re child will become a ward of the Empire.”

She began to cry pathetically.

“ Lieutenant, I will take this woman into my custody. Have her cleaned up and brought to the Executor. ”

“ Yes, My Lord.”

Lady Spiridon spent a week in the Executors detention block in much better condition she would have in the prison. She didn’t know what the Sith Lord wanted with her, but he was keeping her well fed and had ordered a medical droid to do daily health checks on her.

At the end of the seventh day the Sith Lord entered her cell. “ Come with me.”

She followed him and was surprised that the stormtroopers didn’t. In fact none of the men aboard the deck seemed to care. They were all carrying on their duties as if they hadn’t seen the very strange sight of the Sith leading the pregnant prisoner down to the escape pods.

“ We are currently in orbit of Ansion, a neutral planet. Take these.”

He gave her a pack of credits, some rations and fake identification. “Make a new life for yourself and your child.”
She nodded, eyes wide and still cautious. She expected it to be a trap.

“ But beware, if you are caught with the rebels again, I will not be so merciful.”

She entered the pod in evident hurry and it shot off towards the planet.
Vader’s communicator beeped. “My Lord, one of the escape pods has jettisoned.”

“ Leave it. it was simply a mechanical failure. I have dealt with it personally.”

Awesome! Awesome, awesome, awesome! applause

There is still an undertone of malice to Vader (as there should be), yet clearly there is still a part of Anakin left within him. You did a great job bringing that out, darthzeppo!

Lovely vignette!

I agree, very well written, showing Anakin still buried somewhere down under the suit and mask, wishing his mother had been rescued before it was too late.

Wonderful story! This is one situation I can actually see Vader being merciful: in some sort of attempt to make up for killing his own wife and unborn child. I bet she was one of the few people who wasn't surprised when she heard that Vader had killed the emperor to save his son.

Hmm quite interesting to see Vader showing some compassion. The Anakin deep down inside of him must have seen something of his wife in the pregnant woman.

Nice work.

Thanks to you all grin

I’m glad that you liked it ( I was worried that people would think Vader was too sappy) & that I got the message across without having to blatantly state everything ( I believe that you should never treat you’re audience as morons).

Since I’m writing a lot of these short fics for Swfichallenge over at LJ I’m going to just make one thread for them & update it as regularly as I can.

Vader's still good, but only a little bit, and that woman brought out his goodness. She brought out his merciful side. I wonder if she reminded him of Padme?
