	Hello all! Thanks for reading! Hidden Truths, the stories I will be posting are inter-related vigs about war, specifically during the OT, from both sides of the conflict. Some of them may seem familiar to a handful of you, and that's because they're re-postings. I'm hoping with this series to draw in more readers. In any case, I couldn't have gotten here without several people, who all, hopefully know who they are. Saria, Gina, Star_Angel, that's you amazing people! But this one's for Spike, as practice for the real dedication. And for being a great guy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hidden Truths: Tale One Watching You see him hunched over in the corner, sobbing, and you wonder what the Rebellion's newest hero is doing crying when everyone else is celebrating. Celebrating his victory at that. You're tipsy, so maybe that's why you head over there and disturb his grieving. Or maybe it's because you've been in this war business too long and you can't remember what it was like, that first time. You prefer to think you're drunk. It's easier that way. And you like it when things are easy, though they haven't been that way in years. And it turns out you are drunk, because you almost miss the clear signs of disgust emanating from the boy. He's young still, dreams soar in those sky eyes. He does't understand you. And you know the misunderstanding is deeper than the slurred syllables you extol. It's as deep as years, and youth past, deep as freedom lost, deep as blaster wounds, and infinite relocations. It's as deep as the oceans of your home-world, deep as the red of her favorite dress, deep as the night blackness. . . . It's as deep as Death. It's as deep as his child eyes, his Hope eyes. It's bottomless. As you stumble away, you reassure yourself that in time he'll think like you do. Well, he'll think like you do if he manages to survive. But with eyes like those, you note, as sleep takes you, how could he not? In the morning your head feels like the seven, (or is it nine? You never could keep it straight) Corellian hells, and you barely remember the encounter, though you can't help but notice, as time goes on, that Commander Skywalker, or Hero Boy, as you like to think of him, tends to avoid you. Sometimes you wonder what you said, but more often, you're just worried about getting your men through the next battle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you die, you're not surprised, because pilots never have long life expectancies, on the contrary, they have the shortest. It doesn't hurt, which is nice, because you know it could have. In fact, it's kind of nice, all peaceful, like the priests back home always used to say it would be. You've never really believed the Gods exist, but if where you are is Heaven, and it's certainly nice enough to be, maybe you ought to have. Not that it matters, seeing as how you're already dead and all. But it's a thought. And there's plenty of time for thinking, all the time in the galaxy, in fact. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You check up on your men every once in a while, because you do care, rough exterior or not, and you don't want any of them joining you anytime soon. But surely as the years pass, so do their lives, and you soon have company, like it or not. It aches every time you welcome another one home. But acceptance is a lesson you learned early in life. So that's what you do. And that makes you wonder: Are you really in Heaven? In the end, you guess it doesn't matter, because you're somewhere at the very least. And anyway, if acceptance was part of life, it figures it'd be part of Death, too. But secretly, you're disappointed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next time you see Hero Boy, he's commanding a bunch of your old friends, still young, but his eyes have aged. And you feel horrible, horrible. Why did you ever wish that burden of understanding on him? He's not the same Hero Boy anymore. He could be any solider, and that's a terrible fate for the boy who brought hope. You can't help but wonder if you cursed him by saying he would be like you one day. You were never superstitious, but still, what if, what if you did? What if you cursed him? It's stupid, you know, but seeing those eyes kills you. Would kill you, if you weren't dead. They are hardened, blue steel hiding wells of hurt and anger and gods, you remember what if felt every time you lost one of them, and that's what made your eyes like that, but stang it! You were older than him, Hero Boy's just a kid, a kid fresh off that Outer Rim planet with the Hutts and the sand. Suddenly, you wish you had commed your baby brother just one last time. Even if you and him hadn't gotten along, once you had grown up, you still wish you had. Even if he had always hated that you wanted to protect him from everything. Even if you had left him and everyone else behind because you wanted to. You still wish you'd seen that funny little smile of his, the one he got when he had something up his sleeve, one last time. Maybe, maybe things would have turned out okay. But it's too late for that, and you don't want to see your baby brother here any time soon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suddenly one day, the war is over. Just like that, ka-boom goes the second Death Star, and suddenly, you realize, you have won. You have actually Star's honest truth, kriffing won. It doesn't feel as good as you thought it would, mostly because you didn't live to see the sight with your own eyes. Your real eyes, that is. But it is good. It's good. You smile at your men's joy, and pat them on the backs for making it through. They wince slightly when you do that, and you kind of wonder whether they can feel you. Then you shrug it off. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You decide to check on Hero Boy, and he's away from the festivities, so reluctantly, you leave, too. And then you see his eyes. They are not the shining orbs they were when he first arrived, but there is something. Something like redemption, something like peace. Stang, maybe even something like Hope. And then, you know, easy as that, you just know. You can finally go on now. So with final proud, doting smile at your men, and one last visit to see your brother and his beautiful little girl, you're gone. And it's good. 	I hope that you didn't think I would miss this did you? Because oh, wow dances, this was just amazing and sad, but so…real, is that the word I’m looking for? I have tears in my eyes. Well, I loved it, and I love the way you write, especially the way you described Luke, and the way you just managed to drag in your readers from the start and keep them there until the end, cheers for that my friend.
