Thanks for adding me to the PM list.
He had liked the young Jedi from their first meeting. Garen had been waiting for them upon their return from Naboo. Though he had been there to offer support and comfort to his grieving friend, he had been kind and accepting to his friend’s new padawan.
And now he's doing the same kind of thing for Anakin.

Yay, update! Glad all is back to normal for you. Sorry I didn't reply to the last update--bad, lazy me! Great post--everyone's reactions are wonderful, I like how you kind of show Anakin's progression through those acceptance stages...but...but...still...Obi!

Noooooo. I don't want Obi-Wan to die.
Loved that Anakin finally let go once the other Jedi were there. At least Obi-Wan's sacrifice wasn't in vain. But Anakin has a long way to go before he can heal and I wonder if he ever could with both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan dying on him like that.
They should look for Obi-Wan's body.
Loved this.
Holding Anakin tight, the Jedi slowly stood; his face ashen but composed. “No, Anakin. Obi-Wan didn’t leave you. Obi-Wan let his padawan live – he chose life for you, not death for himself.”
Great job.

I'm glad to hear life's gettting back to normal for you.
Anakin's awful, childlike denial was so painful to read – in an entirely good way. You described all the classic textbook stages of grief so well: denial, bargaining, anger; and at the same time wound in such gorgeous Anakin characterisation. And I thought TPM was sad! Reading about a parent-figure's violent death from a child's perspective is always so heartbreaking, and I think you handled it really well. I can't emphasise this enough: your Anakin is a joy to read. His eventual acceptance of Obi-Wan's death must have been even more painful because of all those lonely hours when he only had his hope to sustain him.
No, Anakin. Obi-Wan didn’t leave you. Obi-Wan let his padawan live – he chose life for you, not death for himself
Those last lines from Garen were so beautiful and poignant.
Thank you for the PM.

Well well well another great and heartwrenchng fic, Valairy.
interesting how authors tent to have a thing for hurting (wheather physically or emotinally) their fave characters. (I'm no exception...i love Ani angst). Anyways you seem to be continuing the tendency here. lol.
Gah I do hope Obi's not dead...I man it does seem almos impossible for him NOT to be but heck I suppose anything can happin and I do tend to hope for the best.
Poor Ani...gha he's such a loyal little one.
I do like your style of writing Obi/Ani and you always stick them in the most enjoyable (for me ayways) of situations
Mind putting another on your PM list?

Such an Obi-Wan thing to do!
For the first time, a flicker of fear crawled up his spine, and he angrily pushed it away. Anger was good – anger banished the fear, anger warmed him. Anger gave him strength to face another day, waiting.
Anger kept hope alive so he could scream and yell at Obi-Wan for deserting his padawan when his master finally decided to show up, and anger would give him the strength to fly into his master’s arms and sob his fears away.
Anger let him feel, when despair threatened to strip all emotion away to leave him far more numb in spirit than the cold did in body.
Loved that.

Obi is dead!!
Ah those updates were brutal. Poor Ani, desperately clinging to hope even after it was obvious Obi-Wan wasn't coming.
I loved his memories on Hoth.
Great updates

Rescuing my reply! I had read this already but hadn't had time to finish my reply... so here we go!
Oh, poor Anakin...
You wrote his anguish perfectly, VS, and I definitely agree that Anakin would have been quick to interpret that sacrifice as leaving him instead of saving him. I really think Garen is right. Poor, poor Anakin, though... you really tore my heart out with this one. I sincerely hope Obi-Wan will be able to return--he totally landed on a pile of soft snow or something and will be appearing soon. Right? Right?!? This is such a heartbreaking story already, but beautifully written.
Much , VS, and I'm happy to hear that the weather is looking up for you. I can't wait for more--I'm holding out hope for this to get better... Loved it as always!

Yes, and what just popped into my head was that awful un-canonical bit with Aragorn falling off the cliff in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of The Two Towers. Silly screenwriters. I know - Garen can rip off the Elf's lines!

Oh my gosh this good. The first chapter just hooked me and I've been straving for more ever since. It is so well written, and gah the story line is awesome.
Poor Obiwan, the good die young. He definetly is the good, the Light, caring so much for his padawan to die in his stead. But gah,if he only waited one second more he would be there to comfort Anakin and raise him to knighthood. I luv how the Jedi that came, were Garen, and Windu, and etc. It's good to have friends look for you, they won't give up easily. I hope they find him!
Please, can you add me to the PM list? Thank you.

Noooooooo! Obi can't be dead. Please, please, let Obi be alive. Please?

More please? This isn't the end, is it? Moreee!

joanne_jinn: Garen would do anything for Obi-Wan, and that includes comforting his padawan.
Luminara_Kenobi: I know, poor Obi. I hate to kill him.
Healer_Leona: Obi kill himself? Well, in a manner of speaking…cutting a rope knowing you will fall to your death – yeah, I guess that counts as killing yourself.
Dianethx: Noooooo. I don't want Obi-Wan to die. I agree totally. But Anakin has a long way to go before he can heal and I wonder if he ever could with both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan dying on him like that. Like Obi and Atel in your wonderful story, and in all cases, I fervently hope all the characters can heal. They should look for Obi-Wan's body. You mind-reader you, that is addressed in the next chapter – or was that the one after the next one? Hmmm.
Cael-Fenton: Anakin's awful, childlike denial was so painful to read – in an entirely good way. You described all the classic textbook stages of grief so well: denial, bargaining, anger; and at the same time wound in such gorgeous Anakin characterisation. AW, thanks.
I can't emphasise this enough: your Anakin is a joy to read. His eventual acceptance of Obi-Wan's death must have been even more painful because of all those lonely hours when he only had his hope to sustain him. Young Ani is so much more innocent than older Ani – much more sympathetic in my view (as least as portrayed in the movies). And as for acceptance: Ani’s not there yet. He still has to face some painful truths and he’ll do the classic Ani denial (it’s all HIS fault).
Alley_Skywalker: Gah I do hope Obi's not dead...I man it does seem almos impossible for him NOT to be but heck I suppose anything can happin and I do tend to hope for the best. I do, too (LuvEwan you will redeem Obi, right? I suppose you have to kill him – it’s better than letting him live as evil), but if he’s dead, the best you can hope for is him to appear as a ghost.
As for placing our favorite characters in jeopardy - well, it does create suspense, it gives the characters something to respond to, and in this story, if Obi-Wan wasn't hurt, there would be no story cuz he'd just use the Force and wham! both of them would be safely back on solid ground. So how do you take the Force away from the Jedi? Hurting them is the fastest/easiest way I know how.
VaderLVR64: Of course it’s an Obi-thing to do. And it’s so Ani to use anger to blow away his fears and anxiety.
Kelia: Ah those updates were brutal. Poor Ani, desperately clinging to hope even after it was obvious Obi-Wan wasn't coming. Even now, he only thinks he’s accepted it…perhaps the Force itself will help him.
Luna: You dreamer! You wrote his anguish perfectly, VS, and I definitely agree that Anakin would have been quick to interpret that sacrifice as leaving him instead of saving him. Anakin (yes, most kids, too) is quite me-centered. We never have the chance in the movies (end of RoTJ?) to see if he outgrows that.
I really think Garen is right. No doubt about it, Obi-Wan did what he did for Anakin – his padawan –he would do it for anyone. That’s Obi-Wan.
Poor, poor Anakin, though... you really tore my heart out with this one. Mine, too. I sincerely hope Obi-Wan will be able to return--he totally landed on a pile of soft snow or something and will be appearing soon. Right? Right?!? No. Not only would a pile of snow NOT be soft after such a long fall, but it would be a cop out.
Cael-Fenton: Sorry, I haven’t seen LOTR and I think I may have read it back in the 70’s, so I don’t get the reference. Let’s think…no, I can’t think of any movie that shows a fate for a character similar to Obi’s fate. Oh, yeah, maybe one. Umm…what was the name of it? Something to do with climbing – based on a real life incident….
cole_kenobi: Poor Obiwan, the good die young. He definetly is the good, the Light, caring so much for his padawan to die in his stead. But gah,if he only waited one second more he would be there to comfort Anakin and raise him to knighthood. Obi-Wan would do the same for anyone, IMHO. His job – his purpose – his duty is to others, and he takes it to heart. I luv how the Jedi that came, were Garen, and Windu, and etc. It's good to have friends look for you, they won't give up easily. I hope they find him! Friends may not give up easily, but they also won’t risk anyone for a hopeless cause, either. If they believe Obi is dead and if they are unable to safely recover his body, they are Jedi and they will walk away. After all, as Yoda says, they are the luminous beings inside the shell and if Obi has rejoined the Force, why risk losing everyone for the mere shell?
P_A: Noooooooo! Obi can't be dead. Please, please, let Obi be alive. Please? Oh, P_A, I don’t think even Obi could survive such a fall. The Jedi on the scene know he’s dead, so who am I to argue? More please? This isn't the end, is it? Moreee! No, this 3 chapter story is now – um, 8 at last count (somewhat short chapters, though).

Oh my word - that last line was so haunting I got goosebumps, Valairy! It was so true - made me smile through my tears.
Poor, poor Anakin. I'm so glad that Garen was there - he was such a good friend to Obi-wan and it's clear that Anakin respects him. Is there any hope for our Obi? I'm starting to get reeeeeeally nervous over here!
Lovely work! Thanks for the PM! Hope you had a great holiday too! Happy New Year!
