Beautiful chapter, Valairy! Honestly, you have such a unique way of capturing these two that it never fails to make me smile, even when things aren't at their best.
I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, but I am incredibly anxious to find out what happens next. Obi-wan is in rough shape, but he made a promise to Anakin and we all know our Obi keeps his promises. Yes, I'm clinging to my hope and no one can stop me!
Your descriptions in this update were so vivid I found myself wanting a warm blanket to curl up in. Poor Obi - he's so cold and alone... and injured on top of it all. *sniffle* What an incredibly gripping chapter! I loved it!
Thanks for the PM!

Obi-Wan is alive?
I loved how his only thought was for Anakin and returning to him.
Just lovely.

Beautiful emotional writing. So glad Obi's still alive. But I can't help thinking what must have been going through his mind when Anakin had his little temper tantrum back there.

Don’t look down.
Down is death. Up is life. Up isn’t that far above us, but down is infinitely further. I grab Anakin before he falls to the depths; he dangles not far below me; my heart is much further down – down below where it meant to cushion his fall had my arm failed me.
Now is not the time to remember I dislike heights almost as much as flying, and for the same reasons. Unplanned landings have a tendency to hurt.
Why am I hanging here? I don’t have time to wonder why I, or my padawan, are in this position. I am, and Anakin is. Now is the time for action – for I feel our anchor will not hold long. Each breath may be our last.
How to get out of this situation matters. How I – we – got into it, does not. I do not remember how or why we arrived in this position; I know only that we did fall into it.
Even I roll my eyes at that one. Stop joking, Kenobi: focus. I’ve been in this position before. I know how to get out of it, but this time I do not feel the Force respond as usual, and this time I have another life – literally – in my hands.
My padawan. I swore to protect him, when I told him that my master – his hoped for master – was dead. That oath was in my heart, as it was later spoken by my lips as we formally bonded before the Council. I will do anything I must, to protect him.
I hope that I will not have to take the action I wish not to. I fear I must; I will, if I must.
At least it will be quick – I will die the second my flesh slams into the ice below. Perhaps a stalagmite may piece my heart as the Sith’s blade had pierced my master’s – like master, like padawan. The grisly humor in the thought almost cheers me. I won’t mind dying with a smile on my face. It is better than dying with a scream on my lips. Easier on Anakin, too, if they are able to recover my body.
Anakin! His life demands mine. It is a price I am willing to pay. Now is not the time to think of him. Now is the time to think of saving him. I can think of him as I fall to the unseen depths. I will have a few seconds – more than enough and yet not enough.
Just seconds to live; just one second to die. I hope it is quick, I don’t fear death, but I do not look forward to the dying.
Yes, I know I highlighted the whole first section. But I couldn't help it. It was gorgeous. Moving. Powerful. Everything that great writing should be.

I really loved how you portrayed Obi-Wan as he sat on the ledge. His memories were beautifully done.

I had to read it a couple of times to get the true flavor of it - there was just so much to absorb. I loved the way you showed the death was down and then death was up so much that we are topsy-turvy as to what will happen. I loved the introspection and the way Anakin and Obi-Wan thought about the same events and how their interpretations were part of who they are.
Loved that once Obi-Wan realized that he wasn't going to die that night, that he would start to make sure that he lived as best he could and return to Anakin.
Promises, promises and I thought it was so poignant that each promise was a vow.
I especially liked this
Salt stings my eyes; I blink the tears away. Tears of pain, I tell myself, letting myself believe it, for my shoulder aches abominably. It throbs and pulses and screams defiance into the Force and I – I am unable to release the pain, not with the dull throb in my skull and the dizziness that accompanies it. Tears of pain, not grief, for I do not grieve for myself. I grieve for Anakin. I grieve for my soon-to-be master-less padawan; our bond is not as deep yet as that between my master and I, but a bond nonetheless and it will hurt.
Tears of grief for grief is pain, too.
Great job. Looking forward to the "ghost's" return

Obi-Wan is alive?
Somehow I had a sneaking suspicion.
Beautiful and emotional explanation of Obi-Wan's thoughts on Naboo and with Anakin. Really, truly gorgeous, with the promise pattern. I especially liked the "promise not to let go," as it fits so ridiculously well with the situation at hand. The prose was wonderfully fluid and lovely. You're really outdoing yourself with this, VS. I'm finding myself pretty much at a loss for words, so I came back and tried again... with little to no avail. Much --I loved it as always and I eagerly await our "ghost's" arrival back in the world of the living.

Ack! I knew it! I held out! I'm not that nutty! (Though I will take the coffee, thank you! ) Loved it! Loved that Obi-Wan was able to survive ( ), loved his thoughts on his situation and his sense of dark humor, loved the part about fear when looking over the little ledge...I have a thing about heights and ledges (and stairs ) too. Sorry, a very incoherent response, it's, like, 3:00 am! Please, please, please update crazy soon!

On the edge of my chair. Thank the force and good writers
Obi-Wan is alive.
Now if you can just get Anakin to stop hurting him everything will be all right.
Great story

Dang, I was really hoping to see Obi-Wan go splat.
I read it a few times. Still don't quite understand how Obi-Wan managed to survive – perhaps I am a little slow on the uptake? …But that is insignificant! Irrelevant! because I L V E this story.
Now we know what's happened to Obi-Wan, we need to read Anakin's reaction.
Fantastic update, and thank you for the PM.

He's alive!
His heart nearly skipped a beat when he thought how close he had come to losing his padawan. Nothing could have pried Anakin’s hand loose from his master’s grip – had they both fallen, they would have fallen with hands still clasped.
This line really got to me...especially after thinking about what happens in RotS.
I loved the theme of promises, and how Obi-Wan intends to keep them all. Simply beautiful, Valairy!
