Firstly, to the replies!!

Yay an dupdate!...great to see u back grin

“During that time both sides of the Force waited with anticipation, and at Palpatine’s office, you nearly fell, as you did when Padme was killed.” A stab of pain went through Anakin’s heart as Qui-Gon mentioned Padme. “But you’ve come through it all Anakin. You’ve proven yourself worthy to be a Jedi master, but one thing remains.”

Anakin nodded, “Sidious.” He said quietly. Qui-Gon placed a hand on his shoulder. Anakin felt surprise at the fact Qui-Gon could even touch him. “But how can I defeat him? If I use my anger, then I’ll be just as bad as him, and that’ll turn me to the Dark Side.”

Loved this...it reminded me of tha talk Yoda and Luke had in ROTJ happy

Anakin’s head dropped, “but I can’t do it master, not alone.”

Qui-Gon placed his hand under Anakin’s chin, lifting up his face to look him in the eyes. “Anakin, there is nothing in the prophecy about the Chosen One doing this alone. You have much to learn Anakin, open yourself to learning. Take the attitude of a Padawan, and unlearn what you’ve learned thus far, and re-learn. You have some time. Sidious is over confident, and he’ll wait for you to come to him. Use the time wisely.”

Qui-Gon’s form began to vanish. “Remember Anakin, your focus determines your reality.”

Anakin put his head in his hands, unsure of what to do.

Awesome applause come on Ani, u know what to do whistling wink

Loved this chapter, i very much look forward to the next update grin ...thanks for the pm peace

Thanks buddy, glad you're enjoying the fic. There is more to come, but I'm now trying to get this finished so I can start on my next project, so the end is coming sooner than you think.

KELIA posted:
I loved Qui-Gon appearing to Anakin for much needed advice.

I hope Anakin will focus his thoughts and allow the Force to guide him to what he needs to do next.

Great update

You may like this next chapter then.....

Great post.

I think you handled the righteous anger/justice topic well.

I also liked your use of "your focus determines your reality."

Thanks again for the PM

Many thanks for that, I try and tie it in with as much of the films as possible.

Gkilkenny posted:
applause An update well worth waiting for

“Good!” Qui-Gon beamed, “you see Anakin; there is such a thing as righteous anger.

I love righteous anger, and justice for all the innocent lives

Yeah, I struggle with anger myself, so I was able to verbalise how I feel about a lot of things, like why we're not doing more to feed the hungry and house the homeless etc. My pastor explained it to me so it's as much thanks to him really.

Glad you're enjoying the fic.

And here is the latest chapter. It's quite short but it's setting things up for what's to come.

Enjoy

Chapter 13

The grass squelched under his feet as he made his way towards the waterfalls where they’d lunched some three years. The vast open plane was before him, and in the distance he could hear the roar of the waterfall.

Anakin often wondered why Obi-Wan often meditated in the gardens of the temple. It was something that’d always puzzled him, until now.

He wasn’t too sure how this would work out, but he felt that this was all he could do for now. He needed peace and solitude. Which wasn’t what he’d get with the other Jedi there. Their emotions were all over the place, in spite of the calm façade that they put on. He couldn’t blame them either. It was three years ago, the systematic destruction of the Jedi Order instigated by the man who Anakin looked too as a father figure.

Thinking back over the times he’d taken Palpatine’s advice over Obi-Wan’s. How could I be so stupid? he thought to himself, his head dropped with shame. How close did he come to becoming a Sith lord?

The roar of the waterfall just in front of him saved him from getting soaked and snapped him out of his reverie. Anakin shook his head as though to clear it. He started to look for a spot where he could meditate. He looked to the cliffs of the waterfall, and saw a ledge that would be perfect. That way, he’d not be a threat to the wildlife, or be under threat from the wildlife too.

Using the Force, he leaped towards the ledge, he made it with ease. And so he started to clear his mind as Yoda and Obi-Wan taught him.

= = = =

When a Jedi was asked what do you see when you meditate? It’s a just question, with no easy answer. What the Jedi senses and sees, is unique to them. Some are given words, some are given visions, or warnings.

Anakin closed his eyes, and calmed his breathing, he didn’t drown out the sound of the mighty waterfall behind him, but rather used that sound to help him clear out his mind, he imagined all that was on his mind, being pulled down by the force of the water.

Once his mind was emptied, Anakin surrendered himself to the flow of the Force. He felt it’s warmth envelope him, much like a mother would envelop a child. There was no doubt that the Force recognised it’s own. He allowed it to fill his very being, from the ends of his feet to the top hair on his head. He basked in it, his troubled soul finally found a semblance of peace.

Anakin reached out with Force, and felt himself transported through time and space, he saw places he did not recognise as well as familiar places. The faces of friends appeared, both alive and gone. He caught a glimpse of his mother, and felt a stab of pain, but she smiled at him. No words were spoken, but the smile said more to Anakin than words ever could. He allowed himself to be filled with joy, knowing his mother was safe and no longer in suffering.

The Force gifted Jedi with all sorts of talent, some were excellent healers, some had enormous wisdom, Anakin’s gift was the ability to see into the future. And it was on this gift he called upon now. He needed to know what was going to happen to the Jedi.

Looking through the eyes of the Force, it was a torrent of emotion. Anger, resentment, shame, sadness. He tried to drown these out. What he needed now was clarity. So he tuned the negative out. Finally the mists seem to clear somewhat, and it was then he knew what had to be done. He didn’t like the answer he was given.

But there was no denying that this was the will of the Force. He tested the answer, searching for some sort of deception from the Darkside, but none could be found. He felt the fear rise up within him about what was to come, and instead of burying that fear, he faced it. Looked it in the eye, and named it, and spoke it aloud to the Force. The fear lost it’s potency after that, and while it was still in the back of Anakin’s mind, it wasn’t going to stop him doing what must be done.

But the Force had something else to show Anakin, and he finally understood why the events must unfold as they were going to. And there was nothing he could do about it.

***

When Anakin opened his eyes he looked at the chrono Padme gave him as a birthday gift. He was somewhat startled to learn that he’d meditated for a full four hours. This was something he’d never managed before, and he was certain that Obi-Wan would tease him mercilessly about it.

He stood up, and stretched the knots out of his muscles and made his way towards what had temporarily become the Jedi base.

Thanks for commenting Nesto, yeah, this kind of thing is pretty scary, but it's gonna get a whole lot scarier

I've been lurking since you started this and I really enjoyed the last two chapters. I think it's very interesting that it's Qui-Gon who gives Anakin this advice that seems very related to the unifying force when his focus in life was so much on the living force. Seems like he's come to a balance and is trying to help Anakin to get there as well. Looking forward to the rest!

Dear all,

I'm so sorry i've not updated this for so long. I've been busily trying to write the ending...

At present it can go one of two ways, and i know how both end, it's getting there that's the trick.

And i want to make sure i get it spot on.

Thanks for your continued patience.

Dear all,

The beginning of the end has finally come. It's now going to be focused solely on the battle that's to come. I will cover what happens to the rest of the Jedi, but now I make no apology for the fact that the next couple of chapters are going to be focused on what's going to be an epic battle.

Many thanks for your patience. The updates should be a quicker in coming now.

Chapter 14

Obi-Wan stood upon one of the balconies looking out towards the lakes, a cup of caf cupped between his calloused hands. He bowed his head slightly, as if trying to keep the glow of the setting sun out of his eyes. Four hours! Obi-Wan thought to himself, What could he be doing for four hours?

Over that time, Obi-Wan kept a vigil on the upper balcony, in case something would befall his friend. He reached out with his senses, and he could see the maelstrom that is Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan could sense the waves of emotion battering him trying to stop him finding his centre. Then all of a sudden, it all stopped dead. There was no longer turmoil in the young Jedi, but a calm sense of peace and purpose. That was three hours ago.

Obi-Wan scanned the horizon looking for any sign of his brother. He couldn’t see him anywhere. One of Yoda’s first lessons came to mind, deceive you your eyes can, trust them you should not. Obi-Wan smiled quietly as he closed his eyes and called on the Force. He could sense the young Jedi coming up behind him.

“You’ve been gone a while my old friend” Obi-Wan said, not even turning around. Anakin came up beside him

and leant on the rail. “The Force had somethings to say to me.” Obi-Wan turned to look at Anakin, who scanned the horizon seemingly looking for something that he could never have again. “Are you alright Anakin?” Obi-Wan asked, somewhat concernedly. Tears formed in the young Jedi’s eyes, “Padme and I picnicked over there Obi-Wan” he said, pointing out the waterfall in the distance. “And now she’s gone. Along with most of the Jedi Order. And all the time, it was the will of the Force, and I couldn’t do anything about it.” Silence filled the air as Obi-Wan tried to marshal his thoughts as to how he could comfort Anakin. But it was the younger Jedi who spoke first.

“It seems that’s the nature of things master. The Force will bring things to pass that it wills, it blesses some, and curses others. We’re nothing more than some sort of pebble in the midst of the raging torrent.”

Obi-Wan stayed silent, he was sure there was more to come. Anakin continued, “and it showed me what I must do to bring balance to it. And it’s something that only I can do.” Obi-Wan placed a h

and on his young charge’s shoulder, “but you’re not alone Anakin, we will all stand by you.” Anakin looked into Obi-Wan’s eyes, “not this time Obi-Wan. This is something I must do, alone.”

To his credit, Obi-Wan kept the hurt of Anakin’s words deep below the surface. “Be that as it may Anakin, I will help you. No matter what you say. The only thing that’ll stop me is the Force itself.” Anakin’s eyes snapped to look into Obi-Wan’s eyes when he said that.

Obi-Wan was saddened at what he saw in his friends eyes. Gone was the spark of mischief, the carefree teenager he’d train. The urge to take the battle to the enemy. The one who’d goad him, and tell him how boring his lectures. They seemed haunted, as though Anakin was no longer there. His face was pale, and his skin was clammy, it was though he’d already given up. And that scared him.

“I know” whispered Anakin, “but enough have died on my account, and I will not let anyone die because of me.” Obi-Wan hugged Anakin tightly, “it’s not your fault my friend.” He whispered as Anakin sobbed. Obi-Wan wondered what the Force had shown to this young man to make him like this. He determined he would find out.

Yoda and Mace Windu walked quietly through the gardens, breathing deeply the scent of the flowers t

hat were in full bloom. It had an air of peace to it that reminded them of the Garden of a thousand fountains. Silence passed between them for some time before Yoda spoke.

“Great sadness I sense in young Obi-Wan.” His ears drooping a little, Mace nodded but stayed silent; seeking the Force to guide him as to what was to come. Yoda carried on, “help young Skywalker we cannot any longer,” Yoda continued, “the greatest trial he must face alone.” Mace turned and spoke, “but Master, you and I both know that Obi-Wan and Anakin’s futures are joined, neither can be separated.” Yoda leaped onto a small bench that over looked a fabulous array of flowers, he sat there quietly with his eyes closed calling on the Force for guidance.

“Speak to young Skywalker I will.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*

Anakin stalked through the housing in to the kitchen in search of something to eat. He rummaged through the cupboards. His thoughts were so focused on feeding himself, that he never heard the gimmer cane tapping warning him that Yoda was on his way. He found some bread and some cheese, and turned to sit at the table, to find Yoda already there.

Anakin blushed, “I’m sorry master, I didn’t hear you approach.” Yoda laughed, “hmmm young one, the black hole of your belly must you fill heh?” Anakin smiled, but Yoda noted that even his smile had a hint of sadness about it. “How feel you young one?” Yoda probed.

Anakin sat down at the table, and offered Yoda some of the food, but Yoda politely refused. Anakin took a bit of the bread, he seemed to think about what he was going to say. Yoda allowed the silence to go on for what seemed like an eternity. Finally Anakin spoke. “I feel that it’s all coming to an end soon.” Yoda nodded, his ears drooped, “and feel alone you must be to do what must be done? Hmm?” Anakin looked across the table to the diminutive Jedi master. “It must be this way master. It must be me that destroys Sidious.” Yoda nodded in agreement, “truth you speak young one. But help you will need to get to Sidious. Much protection he will have. Allow you to march to him he will not. Help you will need.” Anakin was about to respond when Yoda held up a hand, “listen to me you will young one.” Immediately Anakin went silent.

“Entwined your future is, with Obi-Wan. Inseparable you are. And your combined destiny it is to bring Sidious down.” It was then Anakin realised how much he’d hurt Obi-Wan, it was then he realised what team they were. And it was then he realised that nothing’s been decided yet. “Always in motion, the future is.” Was what Yoda kept telling him. Anakin hoped with all his being that this was true.

And now we plunge forward into destiny, Kenobi and Skywalker together it seems, and together, united, they shall face destiny.

Great job!

I fear that Obi-Wan may die, if he goes to help Anakin.

Their lives are entwined. their destiny is together.

I am worried now. worried

I still think the clones died way too easily

Anyone here thinks Scorch could have eliminated all the Jedi and the Temple too?
