Finally Qui-Gon speaks to Obi-Wan dancing

“You’re not alone Obi-Wan. You never were.” A strange yet familiar voice sounded from nearby. Obi-Wan turned, somewhat startled at the location of the voice. But there was nobody there. Obi-Wan began to turn when a shimmering form began to appear. It was too much for Obi-Wan, who broke down and wept.

So another post is getting closer Yahoo. applause

No sweat... glad to see you are still working this story... It can be tough... I have personally finished a couple of stories while I let one flounder because I worry I am not writting it well.

Hang in there... I look forward to see how this one ends.

The end is coming, and it will be quite unexpected...

It's possible it may need to spill into a sequel of sorts, I've got a lot of ideas, but nothing on paper yet. The next chapter is particularly difficult, because it will set up the ending for this one. The question then is do I continue to put what comes next in this fic, or write the sequel for it...

I did write a sequel to one of my fics, but there was no interest in it, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do as yet...

If anyone has an preference, then please let me know.

Hi folks,

I've finally managed to update this. It's taken a little while as I had a whole load of different ideas of what I wanted to happen next. But the end is coming now.

I hope you enjoy this chapter. I'll admit it's a bit jumpy in places, but no matter what I did I just couldn't get it to flow quite right. As ever please leave comments, it helps happy

Chapter 16

Three years later

Tatooine

The twin suns scorched down in their relentless heat on the two lone men who were running through the Judlan wastes. Their toned and tanned bodies glistened with sweat, their long hair matted to their heads. A large land slide was ahead of them, Anakin launched himself into a high somersault to clear the rocks, as Obi-Wan ran up the side of the sheer cliff face. Both landed with grace, and their run continued unabated.

They’d come to Tatooine two years ago, when the Emperor discovered where the Jedi were hiding. Imperial Stormtroopers stormed the planet in the hunt for the Jedi. Quinlan Vos and Kit Fisto remained to cover the Jedi’s escape. It was the last time Obi-Wan and Anakin saw them.

But they accomplished their mission well. The Jedi got away with minimal losses. The Queen of Naboo however was not so fortunate. She was tried and found guilty of treason against the Empire, and duly executed, and a governor fresh from the Imperial Academy was installed in her place, and a garrison was established on the planet.

Most of the Jedi ended up on Dagobah, the planet’s massive Dark Side aura hid the Jedi from the Empire. Obi-Wan and Anakin decided to go to Tatooine, as it was the last place Sidious would look for them.

To say Clegg was surprised to see them was an understatement. But even so, he welcomed his stepson to his home with a fierce hug. Rooms were prepared with little fuss, and they even mourned as a family. Anakin would regale them with humorous tales of the escapades he and Obi-Wan got up to. And often the night would descend to the chaos of laughter as Obi-Wan would try and talk his way out of a given situation, when all he’d end up doing was digging himself even deeper. These were happy times, in the midst of impenetrable darkness.

After two months, Yoda turned up on the homestead, the small green Jedi Master deciding that the training of both Jedi was far too important to ignore. The last eighteen months, both Anakin and Obi-Wan had mastered almost every lightsaber technique there was to master. Where they were formidable before, they were now deadly.

It seemed that Anakin was well suited to Soresu, mainly due to his incredible reflexes but also to his new found peace, where before he’d relied on brute strength. Obi-Wan on the hand mastered Vaapad, considered by many the deadliest form of lightsaber combat. But Obi-Wan was so entrenched in the light, that he adapted the style to suite his own strengths. And if what Qui-Gon said was right, then there was no Dark or Light side of the Force, it was the motive of the Force user that was the factor to consider.

Owen Beru and Clegg would often watch the Jedi train together, and would often question Yoda about what the Jedi were doing, and Yoda was only too happy to offer an explanation as to what was going on. Things were not always so cosy.

Three Months Ago…

“Feel the Force through you Anakin” Yoda intoned as Anakin centred himself into a meditative state of being. Yoda closed his eyes and reached out with the Force, he could sense Anakin truly at peace. “Hmm good youngling, good. Your centre you have found, now let go of your conscious self. Travel far you will, see many things you will, the past, the present, the future, friends long gone.”

Anakin’s eyes moved under his eyelids as the Force guided him through the events of his life. The bad parts he’d reconciled a year ago, he’d learned to let go the hard way. But it was a valuable lesson. In his vision he could see a golden hair boy running around, his bright blue eyes full of curiosity and wonder. My son! Anakin gasped. He’d seen his son! And he was so much like Anakin as a child. He reached out to him, to send him love and warmth, and was greeted with a wide smile.

Yoda watched as tears ran down the young Jedi’s face, he knew what the Force was showing him. He sat on his stool, doodling in the sand with his cane.

For what seemed an eternity, Anakin came out of his meditation, his eyes red, but not from tears of pain, but tears of joy.

“I saw my son!” he breathed excitedly, still not sure if the Twin suns had finally driven him insane. Yoda nodded.

“Hmm, though gone your wife is, alive in the Force she is. And alive here.” He said, pointed a gnawed cane towards Anakin’s heart.

“Master, I don’t understand, she never gave birth before her death.” Anakin said, there was no longer pain in his voice as he remembered his beloved.

Yoda nudged him on his shins, “So certain are you hmm? Know not what happened on Ossus we did. Possible it is that given birth she would have hmm?” Yoda enquired.

Anakin thought for a long moment. What Yoda said was logical. She was heavily pregnant by that point, it is entirely possible that she’d given birth well before the destruction of Ossus.

“As ever master, you are far wiser than I am. But what does this mean?” Anakin was puzzled. Why did he see his son? Was the Force trying to tell him something?

Yoda closed his eyes. As if searching the will of the Force for the answer. The silence was broken after five minutes when Yoda spoke, “an anchor he is to you. Ground you in the light he will.”

Anakin thought about what Yoda said for a few moments, before responding, “it’s giving me a reminder of what I’m fighting for.” He said as he nodded, “that I promised Padme’s parents that no other parent will have to go through the same thing again…”

Anakin broke off his sentence as shock of pain come through the Force. Anakin was on his feet immediately, “It’s Owen!!” he exclaimed, “he’s hurt…badly!” Yoda nodded, “go to him I must.” He said as he hopped off the stool. “Tell Beru you should and quickly, important our timing is.”

Anakin rushed through the door and almost collided with Obi-Wan, who was about to say something when Anakin interrupted him, “It’s Owen!!” and dashed off towards the speeder.

Obi-Wan watched as Anakin charged towards the main house, on his way to tell Beru. Obi-Wan looked down upon Yoda, “what’s the plan Master?” he asked, automatically steeling himself for the fight that was going to come.

Yoda looked towards the Jedi Master, “stay here you and Anakin must. My trial this is. Trust me the family does not. Earn their trust I must. Easier it will be for all of us.” Obi-Wan nodded.

It was true. The Lars were not exactly comfortable with Yoda. They knew he was a powerful Jedi Master, but even so, they were never sure when he was joking or when he was being sincere. As well as that, all they saw was the way he pushed Obi-Wan and Anakin to be ready for what in their view was a fool’s errand.

Obi-Wan looked up to see Anakin charging out of the homestead with Beru close behind him. Clegg was behind them in his hover chair. Anakin started to make his way towards the pilot seat of the speeder when Obi-Wan called him over.

“Anakin!” his voice carried a tone of authority. Anakin looked up at Obi-Wan who simply nodded his head back as if to say ‘come here’. Anakin headed over looking over his shoulder as Yoda and Clegg started talking.

“What is it Obi-Wan?” he asked, anxiety was pouring off him in waves. Obi-Wan braced himself for the argument that was bound to follow.

“Master Yoda asked us to stay here.” ’Here it comes’ he thought to himself.

But was surprised when Anakin stopped for a moment and pondered what Obi-Wan said before responding.

“I understand master. Especially if it’s the Tuskens who’s responsible. My record with them isn’t exactly brilliant.” He said with gentle humour. There was no way he wanted a repeat of what happened last time. “I just hope they trust him after this Obi-Wan. It’s hard enough being here as it is without the constant distrust.”

Obi-Wan nodded, “I have to agree, I’m surprised at how easily our focus and connection to the Force depend on the atmosphere around us.” He said. He motioned towards Clegg and Yoda and they both walked quietly towards them.

They couldn’t hear the bulk of what was said. But they clearly heard Clegg’s pained voice, “I don’t care what you must do Master Jedi, just bring back my boy. Whatever it takes.”

Anakin could sense his pain. It wasn’t all that long ago that he lost his wife. Anakin’s mother. Anakin reached out with the Force in a hope of knowing what to say. He could clearly hear Yoda respond to Clegg’s request.

“Do what I must, I shall. No more can I promise you. But return your son to you I will.” Anakin noticed that Yoda never promised what state Owen would be in. He silently prayed to the Force that he’d come back alive.

Beru gunned the engine of the speeder, Yoda hopped on the hood, and flung his small cane to Anakin. “Return for this I shall” he stated with confidence.

~*~*~*~*~*

Beru was flying the speeder well beyond the safety margins, and much much faster than she was comfortable. But with Yoda perched on the front of the speeder, acting as an advance scout, she drove it almost as good as any Jedi.

For anyone else trying such a stunt, the fast moving air would have hurled them off the bonnet long before now. But Yoda was no ordinary someone.

The Force was his ally.

And it told him that he’d return Owen alive to his family.

They were nearing where he sensed the young man now. With a pre-determined signal, Beru slowed the speeder to a more manageable speed. And her eyes were horrified at what she saw.

Owen was strapped to some sort of makeshift wooden frame, while the Tuskens beat him senseless with their Gaffi staffs. His whole clothing was covered in blood from where the mace end of their staffs had cut his skin open. He had a massive bruise above his left eye, which was black and blue and nearly covered his eye completely.

Yoda almost understood why Anakin lost control now. These creatures were truly savages. Attacking without mercy, and for no reason whatsoever. He cast such thoughts from his mind as he closed his eyes and called upon the Force.

The speeder was now stopped. Yoda opened his eyes and signaled Beru to make sure she had her blaster. When he was satisfied she’d be able to defend herself. Yoda leaped into action.

With a mighty Force leaped, launched himself towards the centre of the Tusken party.

The tiny green form was a tornado of destruction as the Tuskens tried hopelessly to cut down the little green Jedi. Yoda called on his Ataru technique as he leaped and chopped. Limbs dropped off the Tuskens as they howled in agony, one of them made a move to try and finish Owen off only to find himself flying backwards at a very high speed. His body crashed into a rock with a finality about it.

Beru watched awestruck as the small green Jedi Master moved faster than the eye could see. And certainly faster than she could believe. Tuskens went flying in all directions, some of them came back even with their arm missing, only to be sent packing with another limb missing.

Finally, the Tuskens saw reason, and decided that survival was the better part of valour, and made their escape. Yoda stood there, a grim look upon his face as if challenging them to come back. He stood that way for some time until he was certain that they were not coming back.

Knowing there was no time to waste, Yoda turned to the young man lying prone on the floor. During the fighting, Yoda managed to free the young man, who fell to a crumpled heap on to the floor.

Owen was covered in cuts and bruises and was very bloodied. Yoda reached out with the Force, he was barely alive. Using the Force he gently lifted Owen into the speeder. He could sense Beru’s sadness to see her partner in such a state, but was given strength by Yoda’s trust in the Force.

Once in the speeder, he ordered Beru to make all haste towards the homestead. Which she did with no hesitation. As Beru drove, Yoda called on the Force, and poured it’s energy into Owen, repairing the internal damage that the Tuskens had wrought. He reset his broken ribs. The rest simply needed time.

He’d saved his life that day. That made him family.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
They were nearing the end of their run now, and started to cool down. The both came to a stop near the building that they called home. Yoda was perched on his stool, sitting the the little shade that was on offer.

Using the Force he flung a towel towards the two Jedi. “Your previous record, beat by several seconds you did.” Humour was evident in his voice. Obi-Wan stalked to the shade and collapsed, the sweat on his back immediately absorbed by the sand stone wall as he rubbed the towel over his face.

No words needed to be spoken. They all knew that the final confrontation was coming soon.

Anakin lay on the coarse sand, his chest heaving in the air. “Do you suppose we can beat Sidious by engaging in a running contest?” he said breathlessly, his voice carrying a hint of laughter about it.

Yoda couldn’t help laughing. “Heh heh, easier it would be I think hmm?”

Obi-Wan smiled. “If only things were that easy. He probably doesn’t get that much exercise, parking his imperial rear end on that throne all day.” He said, playing along.

Silence hung in the air for a few moments.

The smile disappeared from Yoda’s face. “Hmmm, time I left you now it is.” He said as he hopped off the stool. “Taught you what you need to know I have. Save you it will.”

Anakin sat up. “But Master, we are not ready yet…” he started but thought twice when he saw Yoda’s cane leap to his hand. “I mean, this is not going to be a walk in the park. We’ll need help to plan this out.”

Obi-Wan nodded, “I agree, as good as I am with strategy, I’m not Plo Koon, or Kit Fisto.”

Yoda considered this for a moment, “hmm. True your words are, come with me to Dagobah you will. But two things I must do beforehand.” He stated.

~*~*~*~*~

Yoda disappeared for a moment into the homestead and re-appeared a few moments later with Clegg, Owen and Beru in tow.

“Two things I must do before leave we do...” Yoda stated. Beru and Owen looked to Anakin and Obi-Wan in surprise.

“You’re leaving?” Asked Owen, his voice full of shock.

Anakin looked at his feet, for once in his life he was at a loss for words.

Obi-Wan saved him. “I’m afraid we are. We’re ready physically, emotionally and in the Force. But we lack a plan. And Anakin and I are not noted for our tactical brilliance at getting in to places undetected. If you believe what he tells you, I usually end up getting caught.” He said with humour.

“Ain’t that a fact!” mumbled Anakin quietly, but when he saw Beru giggle, he knew he hadn’t said it quietly enough.

“The truth is Owen,” Obi-Wan continued, ignoring his friend’s jibe; “we need the help of the other Jedi if we are to succeed at this. Because it will take a massive effort from all the Jedi for this to work.”

“But at what cost?” Clegg spoke up, “what if you’re all killed, and Sidious is victorious?” The worry evident in his voice.

Obi-Wan’s shoulders sagged, “then the galaxy will be shrouded in darkness.”

Anakin now trusted his own voice enough to speak. “But I promise you it won’t come to that.” He stated with confidence.

“How can you be so sure?” asked Beru, clearly worried.

“The Force showed me how it will all end.” Stated Anakin.

Four pairs of eyes rounded in Anakin as he said this. Only Yoda wasn’t surprised. Qui-Gon revealed some time ago what Anakin would go through to ensure victory. And Yoda helped the young Jedi come to peace with what was to come.

“But what if the Force is wrong?” Owen persisted, “You could have misinterpreted what the Force told you right?” It was clear to Anakin that Owen was scared to lose his step brother.

Anakin stepped forward and put his hands on Owen’s shoulders, “Well, if the Force is wrong, then it’ll have a lot to answer for when you get your hands on it.” He said, with warmth, “but promise me something Owen.” Anakin said quietly. Owen nodded. Anakin leaned in closer to his step brother. “Remember that even if I die, I’ll be with you always. For a Jedi, there is no death, there is the Force. I’ll find someway to let you know that I’m ok. That I promise you.” With that he pulled Owen into a fierce hug.

A small cough interrupted what was an intimate moment between the two brothers. Owen smiled wanly at Anakin, who gave him his usual grin.

“Two items of business we have, before we depart.” Yoda said, “firstly, Beru and Owen, step forward you must.” Both stepped forwards, smiles wide on their faces. Obi-Wan and Anakin smiled too as they realized what was going on.

“Kneel you will.” Yoda stated, “not as tall as you I am.” He quipped, a small laugh escaping his small frame. Owen and Beru duly obeyed.

Yoda placed a small hand on each of their heads. “Brought together by the Force you were, and joined in the Force you are. Owen Lars, take you Beru Whitsun as your wife? To love will all your heart, and to be a shining light in her darkest of times? Until one with the Force you become?” he asked. There was a short silence before Owen whispered, “To this I swear.” Yoda repeated the vow for Beru, after a moment’s silence, her shaking voice declared “To this swear.”

Yoda closed his eyes for a moment, sending a prayer to the Force to bless this young couple. He looked into their future, and it gave him home. “Then pleased I am to say to you and the witnesses here, that Husband and Wife you are. Kiss your bride you may young Owen.” Yoda said, with the tone of a favored uncle. Owen didn’t need asking twice, as his lips locked around Beru’s. When they came up for air, Yoda leaned closer to them and whispered in their ears. “Blessed you will be with many children. Joy and happiness they will bring to you.” Beru’s eyes watered with tears at Yoda’s proclamation. The doctors had told her she was barren. But here was the Jedi Master declaring that they’d have many children.

Both bowed to the Jedi Master before standing up hand in hand.

“One more item of business I have to attend to.” Stated Yoda, his voice projecting authority. He turned towards Anakin, “Knight Skywalker, kneel you shall.” Anakin looked at Obi-Wan for a hint for what was going on. But all he saw was a calm façade.

Anakin duly stepped forward and knelt before Yoda who ignited his lightsaber. “Discussed this I have with the Jedi Council, and agreed we are, truly achieved mastery of yourself you have, and in recognition of that we bestow upon you Anakin, the rank of Jedi Master.” He touched Anakin’s shoulders gently with the saber, then he extinguished it and placed a hand on the young Master’s head as he called upon the Force. “The Force, wisdom and insight it will give you. Protect you it will, and call you to itself it will when your time in this life is over.” Yoda removed his hand, and spoke. “Arise Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Master.”

Awesome post! I like all the Yoda action, both in defeating the Sand people and in performing the ceremony with Beru and Owen. Some pointed out an error I committed once, in which a character who was killed in the jungle fell to the floor, rather than the ground. Thought I pass along that teaching...

Thanks for the tip bro. I'm always happy to receive constructive advice. Glad you're liking the story. Yeah I wanted to bring them all together, as I didn't like the tension that seemed to be between Anakin and the family. And the sand people...

The ending is coming, but I'm not sure how to end it yet, I have two endings outlined, and one of them will lead to a sequel, one of them does not. But we will see the Jedi come in to their own in the next few chapter.

thanks for the support, means so much.
