Dawn of a New Age
The Republic is beginning to learn the truth about the reign of Palpatine with the revelation by the Jedi that he was actually a Sith Lord; solely responsible for the war. Democracy has been restored to the Republic with the toppling of Palpatine from power. Under the newly elected Chancellor Bail Organa; the Republic begins negotiations with the Separatists to formally end the war and terms for their re-admission into the Republic. On his home world of Alderaan, Bail Organa holds the Conference of Unification with the Separatist leaders and begins to heal the wounds caused by Darth Sidious. Peace has finally come and the end of the Clone Wars has finally come.
Throughout the galaxy, the aggressive combat units of clone soldiers and naval officers are now a peace keeping force. The military might of the Republic begins the daunting task of securing the deactivated droid armies and disarm them, while also fostering doubts of the legitimacy of this New Republic. The Jedi oversee this process; while helping restore the toppled governments back into power. Though the Jedi are praised for their courage to remove Chancellor Palpatine from power, many high ranking Republic military officers and Senators believe the Jedi are traitors and not saviors of the Republic. Those feeling toward the Jedi are compounded by the Trade Federation’s refusal to turn over their fleet of starships without assurance from Chancellor Organa that major trade sanctions will not be imposed against them. The Trade Federation’s goal is to regain their exclusive Trade Franchise on the major trade routes throughout the Republic while Chancellor Organa is committed to the policies of free trade that favors no one.
The Jedi Order, meanwhile, begins to recall many of the Jedi throughout the Galaxy back to Coruscant. Though a large bulk of the Jedi membership has been killed during the war; the relief of the conflict finally being over leaves the Jedi Order contemplating its future. The focal point of this is directed primarily on the hero of the Republic Anakin Skywalker, whose status as the Chosen One has assured his place as a true Master within the Jedi Order. It is also believed that the Chosen One has yet to truly accomplish his destiny of balancing the force and that destiny still awaits him. The Jedi Council under Grandmaster Yoda’s leadership is intent on giving Anakin his chance to fulfill the prophecy.
Unknown to the Republic and the Jedi order, on the planet Kamino one last order is being completed. The clone’s protector activates the key sequence to resurrect his Master after hearing of the Chancellor’s death at the hands of the Jedi….

The final sequence was activated on the clone that floated completely suspended in the clone tank waiting to be reborn. There was anger in the man controlling the activation sequence as he felt a great sense of rage toward the Jedi who defeated his Master. The Dark Lord known as Darth Maul stood in front of the clone tube that he himself had once been grown in and produced. His memory was intact from the moment the Jedi padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi had sliced him in half and his long fall down the ventilation shaft.
Due to his failure on Naboo; his Master punished him by making him the caretaker of his own clone. Darth Maul understood clearly that his Master wanted an insurance policy in case he was destroyed by the Jedi. Despite what grievances he had with his master; Darth Maul could not help but admire how cunning the man truly was, always prepared for any contingency that may fall upon him. His meticulous preparation into those contingencies was flawless. Through his clone he would be reborn, his quest to destroy the Republic would be renewed, and the Jedi would pay dearly for what they had done.
The small floating medical droid hovered by the tank as it continued to activate new sequences followed by the main view screen above the tank flashing between the colors of red and green. There were numbers in the Kamino language as Darth Maul could see the countdown flashing. In less then two minutes, they were about to resurrect the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious and unleash him upon the galaxy to finish what he had started.
“It won’t be long now.” The female Kamino stated to him as she stood behind him and to the right. To the right of her was the Prime Minister of Kamino who was contracted to be present when the Dark Lord’s clone was produced. The Kamino were exceptional cloners, who had refined the craft so precisely that they had developed a procedure that could clone force sensitive individuals and resurrect them with their memories intact. Darth Maul could see that his master had taken advantage of the technology as his clone had been produced in his early twenties. He no longer looked physically weak and pale and he was being resurrected while physically being in his prime. The true test however would come when it would be ascertained how much of his memory had been lost by the process. The success of this clone would depend entirely on the complete transfer of the powerful Sith Lord into his new body along with all of his memories, experience, and training as a Sith. If his clone was reproduced with his memories not intact, then Darth Maul had been ordered to kill his Clone and order the Kamino to try again.
The secret to Darth Maul’s resurrection and his masters had been through the use of a unique item called a Kyber Crystal. This unique crystal was exceptionally rare due to it being produced naturally through the dark essence of the force. Darth Plagues the Wise was the first to truly understand how these crystals could be used to enhance a force wielder’s abilities. Being a former Jedi Master himself, Plagues discovered these crystals allowed him to become more powerful then any Jedi before him because the exceptionally rare crystal amplified the wielders connection to the living force. It was also discovered by Darth Plagues that the crystal could be used to preserve the essence of its user and pass it back onto a clone. Darth Plagues became obsessed with collecting these crystals and using them to make himself stronger in the force with each one he possessed.
However, it was apprentice Darius Palpatine who would truly grasp the true nature of these crystals as he purchased a planet called Mustufar where he was drawn to it like a moth to the flame. On the planet; he found a Kyber Crystal more potent and powerful then anything possessed by his master. This crystal allowed Palpatine to grow more powerful then Darth Plagues and destroy him. Though he commonly insulted the memory of his master with stories of him being a frail and powerless old man, the truth was Palpatine’s dark ambition fueled by the crystal destroyed him. Upon destroying Darth Plagues, he became the true Dark Lord of the Sith and self proclaimed himself: Darth Sidious.
Darth Sidious understood that the crystal allowed its user to preserve his essence and keep it from joining the force. However, its application was not easy as Darth Plagues the Wise had failed to use this technique to clone himself using the crystal. Palpatine used his master’s failure and took the process to the exceptional Kamino cloners who eagerly accepted the Dark Lord’s technology hoping unlocking the secret of this crystal would lead to a new lucrative cloning technique. Unknown to Darth Maul, he was the test subject of this process where upon being slain, was restored successfully giving Palpatine a process to preserve his own life.
Engineered directly into adulthood, his clone was placed in preserved animation with one of his most powerful crystals adorned around his clone’s neck. The clone sample had been taken ten years ago and the Kamino guaranteed that once activated and through the use of the crystal he would be restored with all of his memories up to his death. It was also believed that much of his strength and connection to the living force would also be preserved.
There was now only a minute left in the countdown process and Darth Maul unsheathed his double blade saber and clenched it in his hands. He looked up at the helpless dark lord and with much hate in his heart, wanted to destroy him. However, as he looked up at the dark lord he could not resist but feel the sensation of fear as if his attempt failed, he knew Palpatine could easily crush him. Even in his suspended state, Darth Maul was fearful of trying to destroy his Master; knowing what his reward would be if he failed.
“Minister did you erase all the records of this production from the databank as my master ordered?”
The Minister responded dryly, “Yes it has all been arranged as specified by your master. There is no record of this clone being produced and as he is being birthed, the computer is erasing it as the machine is completing the cycle.”
“Good.” Darth Maul did not hesitate as he ignited his double saber and did a back flip in the air landing behind the Kamino. They turned in shock as Maul with a single sweep of his blade decapitated both of them cutting cleanly through their long necks. Maul stood in a triumph over his hosts that were now silenced as was decreed by his master to their last contribution to his production. With their death, no one would be able to know that the Dark Lord had been cloned and that the galaxy would be unprepared for the resurrection of Darth Sidious.

His eyes opened and he blinked a couple of times to find himself suspended in tank of blue bacta. He saw his apprentice Darth Maul standing over the corpses of the Kamino that had produced his clone. Darth Sidious was enraged as the memories of Anakin had allowing Master Windu to destroy him and his attempt to turn Anakin to the Dark side had failed. There was something more he remembered, however, as his essence after death had been preserved and he remembered quite clearly haunting Anakin Skywalker in the temple and later as his children were being born. It was an aspect of the Dark Side he would have to investigate further to see just how far he could extend himself outside his mortal confines.
Darth Sidious seldom lost his temper. He was proud of his ability to wield the dark side without allowing it to completely consume him; but this was not one of those times as his anger was spiraling out of control. His training as a politician made him very conscious of when and how he unleashed his temper focusing that dark energy instead into manipulation. Oh how he loved to watch as his target would be overcome by his trickery, such as Chancellor Valorum who was accused of scandals that he had never done. He was the master manipulator and has used those skills to gain control of the Republic right under the noses of the Jedi Order.
However, he found himself consumed with rage as his attempt to destroy the Jedi had failed and he had been disfigured and slain by the Jedi Master Mace Windu. He had gambled on manipulating the Jedi Anakin Skywalker; hoping his fear of loss for his lovely wife, ambition to become a Jedi Master, and jealously of Kenobi would be enough to bring him to the dark side. Palpatine felt he had been close in succeeding and in many ways felt betrayed by the young man that he had mentored and took care of throughout his life on Coruscant.
His hatred of the Jedi was now stronger then before as he devoted his new life to the gruesome destruction of their order, vowing to slay them all. How he hated the arrogance of Master Yoda, the strength of Master Windu, and every other Jedi who served the order. Even the child Anakin Skywalker, who radiated in the force more powerfully then any other Jedi and treated like he was his own son, he hated. He hated Anakin out of fear of what he may become.
He felt the rage inside him boil now as he began to squirm around inside the tank trying to break free from the tubes going into him and restraints holding him down. Apparently he had awakened early as he could see the flashing of the lights above him that he had remembered when he had revived Darth Maul as the countdown. He had no intent to wait for the sequence to end as in anger he used the force to rupture the clone tank sending the tubing and blue fluid flying out of it. He could not believe how powerful he felt as he lost nothing in the cloning process as he used the force to break his arms free of the restraints followed by his legs. He stepped down onto the cold wet metal floor like a monster as he was still covered in the tubes and respirator mask that allowed him to survive in the tank.
The sequence then ended and he could hear a loud beep followed by all the tubes sticking inside him suddenly pull away causing him to feel unbelievable pain in all the areas they were stuck into him. In some spots blood began to trickle down from the wounds but he ignored that as he reached up and pulled off his respirator mask. Darth Maul walked toward him with his lightsaber still ignited but he had no intention of using it as he flipped it off while his master continued to stand over him in a state of fury. Darth Maul knelt down to his master saying nothing and resigning his fate to him.
Darth Sidious saw the droid as it approached him but he had no intent of allowing it to touch him as he reached out with the force and crushed it. The droid imploded as it spun around out of control before crashing to the floor. Palpatine smiled as the droid hit the ground and smoke from its crushed circuits rose from its corpse followed by a small puddle of acid leaking out of it. Darth Sidious began to look at his body to see he had been restored to his youth, no flaws or imperfections on any part of him.
There was a large mirror located by the preparation area where Darth Sidious would be able to readjust to his new body and returning from the dead. He looked at his reflection and felt relieved that the disfigurement Master Windu had done to him was gone. He brushed his hand through his hair to feel once again a full head of blond hair and smiled sinisterly as he thought of how the Jedi would react once they discovered he had cheated his death.
“The Jedi have succeeded in foiling my plot, but they will soon find that this war is far from over.” Palpatine stated to his apprentice while savoring the way his voice sounded now that he was once again a young man. He then saw his Sith robe hanging in anticipation of his arrival on the wall in addition to a full set of dark black clothes which he walked towards and began to dress. As Palpatine began to dress, he continued to address his loyal apprentice, “We will have to move quickly to catch the Jedi off balance and take back what is rightfully mine.”
Darth Maul then dryly commented, “It had been reported that you were destroyed by Anakin Skywalker before you could fully takeover the Republic.”
“Anakin Skywalker destroyed me?” He asked in a state of disbelief as he had remembered his slaying differently being at the hands of the Jedi Master Mace Windu. He reminded himself that Anakin had stood there and allowed the Jedi Master to kill him and that Anakin would have to be dealt with for his betrayal as he had grand plans for the Jedi he had mentored since he was a young boy. The betrayal angered him deeply because he had prepared himself to teach Anakin all the secrets of the Sith and that together they would rule the galaxy.
Darth Maul answered his masters uncertainty by replying, “Yes, Anakin Skywalker was credited for your slaying and was made a Jedi Master for his part in your destruction.”
Palpatine looked back at Darth Maul with much anger in his face as he expressed, “The betrayal of Anakin Skywalker and the Jedi will soon be dealt with!” The Dark Lord was almost fully dressed as he began to pull on his dark black boots followed by wrapping himself in his Sith robe. The last item he picked up was a lightsaber that glistened to him with its gold and black finish looking very elegant. He thumbed it on to reveal the dark crimson blade that came to life illuminating the room. While he held the blade he reflected on how he would use it to destroy many Jedi as he was prepared to now unleash upon them horrors which they were neither prepared for or expected.
He then turned to Darth Maul and ordered, “Is the order complete for my new army of dark clones?”
Darth Maul replied confidently, “Yes Master; they are fully grown, trained, and ready to follow your orders.”
“Excellent.” He replied as these dark soldiers were infused with the force and through Darth Maul’s supervision he expected great things from them. “Assemble them and prepare to leave.”
“Yes master.” Darth Maul then rose and exited the room to follow his master’s orders. Darth Maul may have been a disappointment during the conflict on Naboo, but Palpatine always regarded Maul’s absolute dedication as one of his best characteristics. Darth Maul would never question Darth Sidious’s authority or attempt to betray him making Palpatine feel comfortable around his Sith apprentice. Unfortunately, that also made Darth Maul weak in his eyes as he would never grow beyond that making him nothing more then a force trained henchman. However; Darth Sidious understood that he needed Maul now more then ever and would have to make do with the apprentice that he had.
He then refocused on his immediate concerns as he had to establish who his allies were and he knew that he still had many who would come to his call. He stepped over the bodies of the Kamino cloners and made his way to the computer where he opened communications to the starship Avenger. It was time for him to organize the fleet and gain the support of a man whose lust for power was only eclipsed by his own.

As Yoda might say, Hard to see the future is.
But now that Sidious is no longer on Coruscant, I would fully expect the Jedi's vision of the force is no longer clouded.
