Update
I am putting the final touches on my next update and sending it to my beta readers today to proof. I am working on a name for my volunteers, and am very grateful for their help.
If all goes well, this will be updated next weekend, most likely Saturday.

Nice update. Anakin's powers are still growing and as Yoda stressed, they may be dangerous...
I like this question: where is Darth Sidious? Indeed, after such a failure, what has he become?
Anakin may be their savior or destroyer... Only time will tell.
As far as Darth Sidious, you will learn his fate very soon...

I loved the bit with Anakin trying shatterpoint and causing more damage than he intended and the part with him using Cody's foot as an anchor point to swing to Yoda.
Looks like things are starting to turn around now.
Thanks for the feedback
I wanted Anakin to use a Shatterpoint to show not only that he could do it, but how powerful he has become.
Definitely the battle has turned in favor of the Jedi.
Now the finale between Obi-Wan and Maul will decide the Jedi's fate.

Great update. It's good to see that Anakin isn't going to be held back any longer.
Hopefully he'll get to Obi-Wan in time and be strong enough to do what needs to be done when he does.
Thanks for the feedback
Anakin definitely won't be held back any longer, question is now will he be able to bring balance to the Force...
I am certain he will be strong enough to help Kenobi, but will he be in time? Will Obi-Wan even need to be saved?
Thanks

RE: Dawn of a New Age: An AU Ending of ROTS. Updated 6-8
I think it was very important for Anakin to hear this:
“What if I fail?” Anakin blurted out. The question seemed to just come out and felt for the first time like his nerves might finally be getting to him.
“Then fail, we all do,” Yoda answered. “In this alone Anakin, you are not.”
Wonderful update!

Shatterpoint the temple...how typical for Anakin to overdo it the first time. Still funny, though.
Looking forward to the next update. Great job!
Thanks for the feedback
Anakin definitely shouldn't have tried to use a Shatterpoint without knowing what he was doing, but Yoda was able to save the temple from his recklessness.

Thanks for the feedback
I am glad so many have liked the inclusion of Anakin using a Shatterpoint. It was honestly inspired by Invincible when Jacen used it to shatter a Mando's helmet and Jaina as well. If they could do it, surely the Chosen One can too.

Anakin isn't in this alone and the Jedi Council - Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Mace especially - will be there to support him as he continues on his path as the Chosen One.

CH 40, part 1
No nominations for Dawn
I will hope the sequel to this titled Birth of an Empire will get some consideration for the next Fanfic awards. I will strive to continue to write better updates and thank all of you for continuing to read this story.
I would like to thank my Hands Raptor and Spyman for beta reading this next update.
You guys are great.
This is the first part of CH 40, the next part I will update the following weekend.
***********
CH 40
“I’m going to end this once and for all!”
Obi-Wan couldn’t contain his rage any longer and charged toward Maul with only vengeance in his heart. He hadn’t felt fury and grief like this since Siri Tachi died in his arms. Padme was dead and there was nothing he could do to bring her back and felt completely responsible for what had happened. He could have allowed Maul to leave, but instead had tried to stop him and all those in the library paid for it with their lives. Their deaths were on his conscience and he would have to live with it for the rest of his life.
He had no idea how he was going to tell Anakin that Padme and his children were now dead.
Suddenly Maul leapt high into the air, spinning and twisting so he could lash down on Kenobi as he flipped over the top of him. Obi-Wan was ready for it, switching from offense to defense so smoothly that he made it appear to be one action. The mastery of Obi-Wan’s lightsaber techniques was now all but apparent to Maul as not only did he manage to parry his blade, but managed to roll clear to safety before Maul could follow it up with any further devastating moves.
Obi-Wan spun to face Maul again and brought his lightsaber back up in his signature Soresu Stance. He forced himself to calm down and rein in his feelings, but they continued to plague him with grief and sorrow over what had just happened. He tried telling himself that it wasn’t his fault for what happened to Padme, but that still didn’t make it any easier to bear or alleviate his guilt for failing to protect them.
“Give in to your hatred!” Maul beckoned. “Only your hatred can destroy me.”
“Never!” Obi-Wan shouted back. “I will never become you.”
Maul leapt forward again and opened up a new series of complex, aggressive attacks that were difficult for even Obi-Wan to parry. Obi-Wan allowed himself to stumble back to feint retreat and hoped that Maul would try to finish him off by over-extending himself or otherwise open himself up to the inevitable counterattack. Maul didn’t take the bait and surged forward with a new exchange that kept Obi-Wan on the defensive.
“You are getting weaker, old man!” Maul taunted as he accelerated the rhythm of combat to further exhaust Kenobi.
“If you say so…” Obi-Wan replied as Maul finally dropped his guard. Obi-Wan surprised him with an elbow to the jaw that sent
Maul reeling backwards. The Sith Lord was in disbelief that the Jedi Master was able to withstand his attacks and not succumb to them. He roared in fury and charged again, the battle continuing with a familiar rhythm combat that shifted back and forth from offense to defense. Maul focused almost entirely on offense and continued to try look for an opening that would allow him to finally deliver a killing blow. Obi-Wan countered every move he made and stood before him like a colossus who could not be brought down.
With the surge and swell of each exchange, Obi-Wan prodded Maul with the Force to discover that Sith Lord was beginning to tire. Despite the Sith Lord’s training, he was physically inept for long, drawn-out battles – none of his opponents had ever lasted long enough to really push him to the limit. It made sense to Obi-Wan now why the Sith Lord was so determined to escape and not risk pitting himself up against Kenobi in a battle that he might not be able to win. Obi-Wan had beaten Grievous by wearing him down and through trickery – now he would do the same here against Maul.
Obi-Wan prayed he would find some weakness that he could exploit to his advantage or Maul would make a mistake that would be his undoing.
Yet Maul’s endurance was fueled by the Dark side and his strikes continued to remain crisp, the counters precise, and the transitions between forms flawlessly precise. Maul was simply too good to be thwarted by exhaustion and it was unlikely he would make any foolish mistake again that would bring him down. It was Obi-Wan’s mastery of the Soresu technique that truly thwarted Maul and he simply could not topple his form of lightsaber combat, leaving the Sith Lord more frustrated than vulnerable.
Maul responded with pure rage and cried out, “I will break you!”
Even though he was battling the Sith Lord, the real battle was within himself. He had to constantly pull back when Maul gave him an opening to strike and watch the Sith lord’s frustration bubble into uncontrollable anger as he thwarted him time and again. But the true reason he held back was he wanted this victory to be complete, with a crushing blow that would come only through his resilience, patience, and excellent timing. In essence: he wanted to break Maul completely and leave no doubt who was the better man.
Surprisingly, he felt a surge of energy and felt the Force flow through him like never before. He was actually growing stronger, not weaker, and that something within him had been awakened, triggered by Maul destroying all those he loved. Raw feelings began to pour from him, but he channeled them into strengthening his resolve. His thoughts for revenge, his feelings for those he loved, and lastly memories of Siri Tachi flowed through him to make him stronger.
It was the righteousness of what he was doing that allowed him to justify using any means necessary to destroy Maul. All
those who suffered and died at the hands of this monster now were with him here today, their voice added to his in a decree that never again would he hurt anyone else – that his reign of terror was now over. Obi-Wan surprised Maul by switching back to an aggressive style and hammered him with thunderous blows that forced the Sith Lord back.
Maul reeled in shock from Obi-Wan’s attacks and stepped back in a defensive posture. There was no longer any doubt that one of them would fall to the other’s blade and that the better man would truly be victorious over the other. Obi-Wan felt confidence and strength flow through him like before, with the belief that nothing in the galaxy could stand in his way.
“It ends here,” Obi-Wan declared. “You will never harm anyone ever again.”
Before Maul could respond, he leapt toward him, his blade moving with far more speed than he had ever shown before. It was a blur of moves that was so fast that Maul was barely able to bring his own blade up in time to block them.
Maul laughed as the battle was really beginning to get intense between them now and seemed to relish that the fight would be as hard fought and hard won as he had hoped.
“You are much better than when we last fought, Kenobi,” Maul told him, clearly impressed with how good the Jedi Master really was. “It will be an honor to kill you.”
Maul lunged back in again, and the chamber filled with the hiss and hum of their blades striking each other. Obi-Wan gave himself over entirely to the Force and moved almost entirely to its will as they continued to bring strikes against each other. They were moving so fast now that their blades struck each other half a dozen times only in a matter of seconds. Obi-Wan would have been carved to pieces if he didn’t rely on the Force to guide his hand and also rely on his Soresu technique to protect him. His blade became an extension of the Force, and he responded to all of Maul’s attacks with an impenetrable defense.
Then Obi-Wan went on the attack. He relied entirely on the raw emotions that fueled him and felt himself on the brink of the dark side as he called upon his full potential. He drove Maul back with furious slashes, and actually forced Maul into a retreat across the floor of the Inner Chamber.
They reached what used to be the entrance of the library and Maul retreated inside the ruined structure. Obi-Wan was relentless in pursuit and leapt after him with no regard for his own safety as he pressed him. Maul was caught completely by surprise and was pushed back farther into the library’s massive chamber. The wall that had come down had laid waste to the entire library, but the archives and much of the inner chamber remained intact.
Obi-Wan lunged forward and came within a centimeter of landing a crippling strike that would have taken Maul’s leg. His strike was turned aside at the last second, but Obi-Wan followed it up with another series of powerful thrusts and stabs with his blade. Maul continued to give up ground and was pushed back through the main area where all the marble tables remained upright and intact. Obi-Wan noticed for the first time that the room appeared to be empty and had yet to see a body from any who had died in here after the wall collapsed.
It gave him hope that somehow Padme was still alive, though he still could not feel her.
Maul tried to change tactics and force Obi-Wan back into a defensive posture, but Obi-Wan was winning the battle of Force powers between them. He was simply too strong and Maul continued to be pushed back and lose ground to the raging storm that Obi-Wan was unleashing against him. Each time the Sith Lord tried to shift tactics or forms, Obi-Wan anticipated, reacted, and seized the advantage.
Maul snarled in rage, but the outcome between them was quickly becoming inevitable as Obi-Wan began to push him into a corner from which he could not escape. None of Maul’s tricks or special moves with the double-bladed lightsaber was working and Obi-Wan was too good of a lightsaber master to be tricked by any of them. Obi-Wan laughed triumphantly as he knew how to counter and nullify every spin, sequence, and series of moves that Maul tried to unleash against him.
It was only a matter of time before Maul fell to his blade.
Maul even began to grow desperate. Leaping, spinning, ducking, and rolling his way in reckless retreat that appeared to Obi-Wan that he was trying once again to escape. Obi-Wan kept the only possible way back to the library’s entrance cut off and continued to force him back into the corner. Initially he intended to force Maul back toward the vault where he could trap him inside and finish them there, only to discover that it was already sealed.
Then he saw her, standing behind the thick indestructible clear door of the vault that protected all the Jedi’s sacred relics and secrets. Padme stood inside the vault with C3P0 and R2D2 at her side, brandishing her blaster as though in preparation to use it. Pure joy flowed through him as he saw her alive and well, and understood that she must have told everyone to hide in the vault once she heard sounds of battle outside the library. It was smart because the vault was virtually
indestructible and designed to survive a blast from even the most powerful thermal grenade or even a direct bombardment from space. It also explained why he couldn’t feel her because the vault was designed to keep Force users from feeling what was inside. Sacred holocrons, relics, and other priceless Jedi artifacts rested inside – including many Sith holocrons that were locked up to both preserve their knowledge and keep them from falling into the wrong hands.
“You have failed!” Obi-Wan cried out in triumph. He Force slammed Maul back into a corner where Maul would be unable to escape. Maul quickly got back up and stood, panting heavily, stooped ever so slightly, his head bowed. He looked up at Obi-Wan as he moved in to finish him, but when his gaze met his own there was no sign of defeat in his eyes.
“You should have finished me when you had the chance,” Maul said.
There was five meters between them and it was all Maul needed to give the hilt of his lightsaber a twist. The long hilt separated in the middle and suddenly Maul was armed with not one double-bladed lightsaber, but with a pair of single blades, one in each hand. Maul began to twirl them, twirling much in the same way Grievous had done except Maul had the Force to rely on to guide both of them. It was a terrifying display that forced Obi-Wan to stop in his tracks and bring back up his defenses.
Obi-Wan hesitated. He had never trained on how to defend himself from the Jar’kai style of lightsaber fighting and was discouraged to learn the variation of the form from Swordmasters at the temple. Yet he was one of the few who had experience fighting against the technique from his encounters with Grievous and Asajj Ventress, but they were mere amateurs compared to Maul. Obi-Wan had no doubt that he had mastered the lightsaber technique and could wield both blades with lethal precision. The hesitation Obi-Wan made was more than enough time to allow Maul to regroup and attack.
The battle was rejoined, but now it was Obi-Wan on the defensive as he instinctively went back to his Soresu technique to defend himself from the dual blades. Obi-Wan was unable to anticipate the unfamiliar sequences of the two handed fighting and was forced to fall back. Maul smiled wickedly and began to twirl his blades in motions that Obi-Wan could neither follow nor adequately prepare for. His mind became flooded with all the different combinations Maul could now use against him and it made his hand waver, unable to now properly guide with the Force any adequate defense that would protect him.
Obi-Wan became overwhelmed and stumbled back in desperation as he continued to try and defend himself. Within the first few exchanges, Obi-Wan knew he couldn’t win. Maul had trained a lifetime to master lightsaber techniques and had honed his skills for decades until they were perfected. He refined his sequences and every move until they were perfect, not stopping until he had become the perfect warrior. Darth Maul might very well be the greatest swordsman who ever lived and a true master of every form of lightsaber combat.
Obi-Wan was no match for him.
Maul no longer toyed with him and was unrelenting with his pressure. Now Obi-Wan was the one being pushed into the corner with no conceivable way of escape. Maul seemed to be wielding six blades rather than two, attacking with a particular rhythm to keep him off balance: coming in with one low and one high. Obi-Wan’s Soresu mastery barely allowed him to anticipate Maul’s blades and left him with no other choice than to fall back… and back… and then back until his back thudded against the opposite corner.
Now he was the one who was trapped and unable to escape.
Obi-Wan cried out in pain as Maul parried his blade and forced it away from his body. He then brought his other one down to knock it forcefully from his grasp, nearly breaking his wrist from the force of the blow. Obi-Wan clutched his wrist and helplessly slid down the wall, knowing that there would be no escape for him this time.
“Vengeance is mine!” Maul declared triumphantly. He snapped his lightsabers back together and then raised his blade up for the killing blow.
It was that delay in finishing Kenobi that he made the fateful mistake.
Anakin came charging into the library and with the Force threw Obi-Wan his lightsaber. Before Maul realized what was happening, Obi-Wan caught the lightsaber, activated it, and thrust the blade into Maul’s chest. Maul cried out in disbelief as the blade pierced his heart and looked at Obi-Wan in utter disbelief as he fell to his knees.
“No…” Maul cried out, again cheated from his victory. “Not again!"
Obi-Wan deactivated the lightsaber and Maul collapsed at his feet. The Sith Lord was dead before he hit the marble floor.
Anakin was quickly at his side to make sure he was alright. Obi-Wan handed back to him his blade, unable to stop from trembling from the adrenaline rush he was feeling. Again he had defeated Darth Maul, though the victory was not entirely his own, he felt lucky to be the one who was still standing.
“You alright?” Anakin asked as he checked Maul to make sure he was really dead.
“I think so,” Obi-Wan replied gingerly. He tried to get up, but his body was past the point of exhaustion, his shoulder still throbbed from being dislocated from before, and his wrist felt like it was broken. Obi-Wan used the Force to call back his lightsaber and then reattached it to his belt. “Again, it seems you have come to my rescue.”
Anakin helped his former master up and touched him on the shoulder to transfer some Force into him to help him recover faster. “That’s the Eleventh time now you owe me for saving your skin.”
“Tenth time,” Obi-Wan countered. “That business at Cato Neimodia doesn’t – doesn’t count.”
Anakin leaned down and picked up Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber. It was a magnificent weapon and was tempted to keep it for himself as a trophy – but it wasn’t his to keep. Instead he offered it to Obi-Wan.
“You keep it,” Obi-Wan told him.
“Obi-Wan, just because…” Anakin began to argue, clearly believing he should have it.
“It’s yours,” Obi-Wan declared bitterly.
“What’s wrong?” Anakin asked, feeling hurt that Obi-Wan was treating him like he didn’t want him around or appreciate his help.
“You’re the hero here today Anakin, not I.”
“That’s not true!” Anakin objected. “You’re every bit the hero that I am, can’t you see that?”
“All I did was keep the monster at bay until you got here,” Obi-Wan pouted. “I’d be dead now if it wasn’t for you.”
“Maybe,” Anakin conceded. “But that doesn’t change the fact that you won and he lost.”
“I got lucky,” Obi-Wan pointed out.
“I thought lucky was your middle name,” Anakin jibbed him.
“I wanted the victory to be mine and mine alone,” Obi-Wan vented. “Now again I’ve proved that I wasn’t the better man.”
“You’re wrong,” Padme corrected.
Both Anakin and Obi-Wan turned to face her as she approached and her presence commanded their complete attention. Like Yoda, she was small in stature yet radiated an aura about her that was hard to ignore. She seemed untouched by the death and devastation that surrounded them – with her very presence bringing them both inner peace. It was no wonder Anakin loved her so much, for she was the only one who could quell the arrogant beast and make him respectable.
“You are victorious over Maul because you didn’t give in to the dark side.” Padme walked directly to her husband and he lustfully wrapped his arm around her. He was unable to contain the love he felt for her and it showed as he leaned down and kissed her forehead. Padme’s gaze, however, remained focused completely on Obi-Wan as she continued, “You are the better man Obi-Wan because you didn’t give in to the hate or allow your feelings consume you. You fought Darth Maul as a Jedi Knight and defeated him as one.”
“She’s right Obi-Wan,” Anakin agreed. He continued to nuzzle Padme against him and finally managed to steal a kiss from her. “I may be the Chosen One, but you set the example that every Jedi should strive to follow.”
“It means a great deal to me to hear you say that Anakin.”
“It’s the truth.”
Padme pulled away from Anakin and walked over to Obi-Wan, embracing him as her hero. She gave Obi-Wan a kiss on the cheek and whispered to him, “I am sorry if I scared you before, but once I heard you and Maul out there I had to do something. I saw the vault and figured that was the safest place we could be.”
“You did great,” Obi-Wan whispered back. He then lied, “I never doubted for a second that you were still alive.”
“Liar,” Padme teased. It was scary how well she could read him and that other than Anakin there was probably no one who knew him better than she did. “I saw the shock on your face when you saw me alive in the vault.”
“I was happy to see you.”
“No doubt,” Padme said with a wink.
“Hey! Break it up, you two.” There was a hint of jealously in Anakin’s eyes as he pulled Padme away into his arms. “You may have bagged the bad guy Obi-Wan, but I get the girl.
“Whatever hero,” Padme teased and gave another wink toward Obi-Wan. Anakin didn’t allow her to escape him this time and kissed her passionately, never truly realizing how close he had come to really losing her. Obi-Wan smiled as he saw them together and was happy to his friend so happy. But at the same time, he felt a pain of regret again inside him and couldn’t help but think of Siri Tachi. He had loved her – that much he knew – but he had chosen not to abandon his principles to be with her and it wasn’t until she died in his arms that they were able to rekindle that love with a dying kiss.
“I’ll go check on the babies and the younglings,” Obi-Wan told them as he excused himself so they could be alone. He heard them continue to whisper loving words to each other and smooch as Obi-Wan made his way back to vault where the younglings had remained. He was greeted at the door by C-3P0, who told him, “It is so good to see you still fully functional Master Kenobi.”
“I take it my odds for beating Darth Maul were not in my favor.”
“Not at all.” C-3P0 dismissed the notion with a swift sweeping gesture of his hand. “I am only stating the obvious.”
R2-D2 mockingly giggled at Threepeo and then made a demanding chorus of beeps toward him.
“What do you mean I owe you 100 credits!” Obi-Wan couldn’t help but smile as he could only imagine what odds C-3P0 had given him. “I never seriously suggested we gamble on the outcome of the fight. Our lives were at stake after-all and I couldn’t possibly…”
R2 activated his shock arm and aimed it at the protocol droids left leg, preparing to fire if he didn’t pay up.
“Put that away!” Threepeo whined. “Master Kenobi, will you please order R2 to stop playing around and I couldn’t possibly...”
R2 gave a hoot of protest and then charged his arm to demonstrate he was being serious.
“I suggest you pay the droid what you owe him,” Obi-Wan advised.
“But sir!” C-3P0 protested. “I am on a mere droid and don’t have the means to pay.”
“Whenever you gamble my friend, eventually you lose.”
R2 again chuckled menacingly as he primed his arm to fire a bolt of electricity.
“But it wasn’t a fair bet!” C-3P0 flailed his arms wildly and other than just being obnoxious, was creating a scene that made Obi-Wan want to laugh about instead of take seriously.
“If you are unable to pay, I’m sure R2 will be reasonable and make some other arrangement to settle your debt.”
Obi-Wan walked away as he pushed his way past the droids into the Vault. R2 and C-3P0 continued to bicker with each other, until eventually they came to some sort of agreement and he backed off, retracting back his shock arm.
He greeted the younglings fondly and they were happy to see him again – many of them smiling for the first time since they were locked away inside the vault. “Did you all behave for Padme?”
“Yes, master,” The younglings all replied together. They were all good kids and Obi-Wan would have been disappointed if any of them had caused any problems for Padme. They were indoctrinated in the Jedi way of life from the moment they could stand and were well on their way to becoming Padawans. All they needed was time to grow and a Master to teach them further in the ways of the Force.
“Good,” Obi-Wan told them with a smile. “I’ll make sure you get double portions of Ice Cream after you eat your dinners.”
That uplifted many of their spirits, though there was still some uncertainty in their eyes that they were truly safe. He couldn’t blame them. No generation of Jedi had ever seen a battle like this within their homes and there would be many spirits that would have to be mended in addition to the extensive rebuilding that would have to be done. He doubted they would actually have to abandon the temple completely, but there would definitely be a rough period of transition for awhile until things got back to normal.
Darth Sidious was also still out there and he would have to be stopped. With the army he still controlled and the influence he could wield, he was powerful enough to engulf the galaxy in another brutal civil war. But at least this time, the Jedi would at least know now who they were fighting and hopefully find a way to stop him before it was too late.
Obi-Wan found the twins sleeping in a makeshift crib made from a large archive storage bin. He chose not to disturb them and simply stood over their sleeping forms, standing in awe of their innocence and ability to block out the chaos that had erupted all around them. They looked so peaceful, with nothing in the galaxy that could possible take away their innocence or happiness.
One of the younglings tugged on his sleeve.
“Yes Tam?” Obi-Wan asked with a whisper.
“Master, have you made all the monsters and the bad men go away?”
“Yes, you are safe now,” Obi-Wan assured him. “We all are.”

Sorry about not getting the second beta done in time. My bad. Still, good to see this up. Maul is gone, and hopefully for good, this time.

Thank you for the update. An excellent fight scene between Maul and Obi
I have to say that I was disappointed in Obi-Wan's reaction towards Anakin throwing him the lightsaber. So UnJedi-like Obi-Wan

Again, Obi-Wan cheated death because of Maul's arrogance.
Good job. But if Maul came back once, he may very well come back a second time, unless you only live twice

Thanks for all your feedback

Tam is an original character and thought that ended that section well with the little kid. Am glad you enjoyed.

Haven't honestly have decided if this is last we've seen with Maul, but the clone technology degrades the Force users abilities each time it is used. So if Maul was resurrected, he wouldn't be as strong.

I worked really hard on the fight scene and really wanted the final Kenobi vs Maul duel to end well. I don't think even Obi-Wan deserves to throw tantrums from time to time.

I might have to take a poll to see who wants to see Maul back. But honestly I think twice is enough and there is the problem with a clones abilities degrading after each time they go through the process.

Thanks for stopping by and reading this fic. I won't add you to my PM list until you request, but I do appreciate you reading the story and hope to see more feedback from the future. The next update is the fleet battle. You may be on to something in regards to Thrawn...
Thanks again for all of your feedback.
