Finally! It has been quite a roller coaster ride, and I doubt it is over, but at least Maul is dead, and Sidious is retreating, for now.
As for Anakin, I agree that he needs more training. I cannot wait to read how this New Age of the Jedi Order works.
Continue the great work.

Darth_nellie: I am glad you enjoyed the chapter and the exciting possibilities it brings to the final part of this story. Things are changing, thats for sure.

Raptor517 The real battle is definitely about to begin. It is certainly harden to change your ways when they have been set in stone, in the Jedi's case for thousands of years. It will not be easy.

Darth_kripp Yoda and Mace are going to complete his training.

Ocelotl_nesto Anakin will definitely have Yoda pulling out whats left of his hair and drive the iron willed Mace Windu crazy.

daramin_of_the_way Thanks for staying on for the journey grin The forces of darkness have been put at bay for now, but they'll be back, stronger then ever. The Dawn of a New Age is coming. Anakin is the key.

egkenobi I am glad you liked it so much. I think you'll really enjoy the last part of this story if you enjoyed that.

Thanks all for your feedback and your patience as I update this story slowly, but surely. This next update is the last chapter before I begin with the final part of the book that decides Anakin's fate.

Would like to thank my Hand Raptor for going through this for me. My other Hand Spyman has gone MIA and hope those pesky rebels haven't captured him

Anakin stood proudly with his wife as the Jedi continued to celebrate their victory and now Jedi Masters Mace Windu, Yoda, and Obi-Wan Kenobi approached them.
Master Yoda then stated, “I would like both of you to withdraw back to the Council Chamber and wait for us to come, we have a great deal to discuss.” Master Yoda then reiterated, “Together, we will figure out a way to keep your position secure in the Jedi Order and bring it into balance.”

“Thank you for this, Master Yoda,” Anakin expressed.

“You might want to save your thanks until after the council session,” Master Windu advised. “Master Kenobi was correct when he told you this will not go down easily with the Council.”

They were interrupted by a cry of anguish from Master Aayla Secura who stood over a fallen dark clone with his helmet in her hands. “It can’t be him!” she cried out.

The Jedi Masters watched as she moved to another corpse and pulled off his helmet as well to reveal the same face, leaving her stricken with grief over what she had just seen. “It just can’t be.”

“Masters, you need to come see this,” Aayla called out to them.

The Jedi Masters approached Aayla Secura who proceeded to kneel down besides another of the slain Dark Troopers and slowly began to pull off his helmet. Master Windu stood shockingly as the cloned face of Quinlan Vos stared back at him lifeless as he then stated, “That answers the question about what happened to Master Vos.”

“No it doesn’t!” She cried out. “Master Vos would never willing betray the Jedi Order, or allow his DNA to be used to create a Sith army.” Master Secura traced her fingers delicately over the clone’s eyes, clearly rattled to see her former master in each of the enemies faces. Though it was clear none of the enemy was the real Vos, it made it obvious that his fall to the dark side had much broader ramifications then what they had initially feared and it was impossible to ignore. Vos would have a lot to answer for after this.

“I agree,” Obi-Wan concurred with her. “I’ve known Quinlan Vos since he was a Padawan and there is no way he would betray us.”

“There must be some other explanation for this,” Aayla declared adamantly.

Master Windu gave an agitated sigh. Quinlan Vos was a headache for the Council before the Clone War and a nightmare for them since they secretly assigned him to infiltrate Dooku’s Inner Circle. There was no doubt he had turned dark in order to complete his mission and had done things that warranted his disgrace – most notably an assassination that could never be justified. Regardless, Vos succeeded in infiltrating Dooku’s inner circle and provided intelligence that helped save many Republic lives. His greatest success was on Salucami, where he broke his cover and along with Masters Secura, Tholme, and Barriss he wiped out most of Dooku’s inner circle. His only failure was eliminating Dooku.

The Council ordered Vos to immediately return to be ‘counseled’ for his actions, but the order was countermanded by Yoda who needed a Jedi to lead one of armies on Kashyyyk. Yoda planned to privately council him on the planet and perhaps keep him there until he recovered from the trauma of his ordeal. As it turned out, the Battle of Kashyyyk would be the last battle of the Clone War and Vos failed to report when Master Windu summoned all the Jedi back to the temple. Since Kashyyyk, he had not been seen since.

“We must find him,” Aayla demanded. “He could be in terrible danger or worse…”

“He’s turned back to the dark side,” Master Windu interrupted sharply, making it clear where he stood on the matter.

“That’s not what I meant.” Aayla protested.

“Regardless; Quinlan Vos has gone missing and we now discover an entire clone army has been made from his DNA. We have no choice but to consider him a traitor to the Republic until proven otherwise.”

Not even Aayla could argue with that. The Jedi Council had good reason to be suspicious of Vos. They had never figured out how the data in the archives of the planet Kamino had been erased from the archives or believed that Master Sifa-Dyas had acted alone in the plot to create the Clone army. Dooku was almost certainly involved, but there was a belief that there were others who, either willing or unknowingly, were a part of the plot and that Quinlan Vos was only one left alive who was on that list. Ironically it was his dubious nature that made him the ideal choice to assign the mission to infiltrate Dooku’s inner circle and the ease of infiltration compelled many to believe that Vos was dirty.

“Still, he may need our help,” Aayla pointed out. “Finding him should be our top priority,”

“Now is not the time to deal with this,” Master Windu declared adamantly. “We must first decide the fate of Master Skywalker on the Council before any other issue is addressed.”

“Only I need to go,” Aayla pushed. “I might be the only one who can find him or who he might come to. It will only take a few days to find him.”

“You are a Master on the Council and are needed here.” Aayla’s face began to redden with fury from Master Windu’s stern refusal of her request. “You are forbidden to go.”

“Master Windu, I beg you to reconsider.”

“Have I not made myself clear?” Mace asked, now unable to hide the anger from his voice. “Well let me make myself clear now. You are required to be here for the special Council Session to determine Master Skywalker’s fate. Anything beyond that
is forbidden and will only be addressed when the matter at hand is resolved. Is that clear?”

She turned to Yoda to try and get him to get his permission only to find him sadly shaking his head in disapproval.
Aayla was now furious.

She was highly unpredictable in her own right, known to freely express her feelings when the norm was to repress them. The distinctive outfit she wore that exposed her midsection was a testament to how freely she expressed herself. Master Windu had just trapped her in a box of his iron will with no way out other than to submit and her natural reaction was to try and fight her way out. She clenched both her fists angrily until her nails dug painfully into the palm of her hand and looked ready to snap.

“I am sure he is all right,” Obi-Wan said to her calmly. “Surely Aayla you would be able to feel if something had happened, considering how close you were to him.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Aayla snapped at him defensively.

“Only that you were his apprentice and that you would know if he were in any danger.” Obi-Wan always had a knack to keep his wits about him in virtually any situation and bring reason into play when all around him there was only chaos. It was one of reasons he was known as the Negotiator. “Is he?”

There was a long pause as Aayla opened that connection and tried to find her former master with the bond they created between them. Every Jedi formed such a bond with their Padawan and allowed them to feel each other no matter how far away they were from each other. When close to each other, it was an ability that allowed Jedi to share each other’s thoughts and use the Force to augment each other’s abilities with their own. From far away, it was limited to just being able to sense their presence and their state of mind.

“No, I don’t sense he is any danger,” Aayla confirmed. “But he is blocking me out, trying to keep me from figuring out where he is.”

“Then he is alright,” Obi-Wan told her softly. “We will find him, but only after the matter at hand with Anakin is decided.”
“Indeed,” Yoda confirmed. “Make a priority to find Master Vos, the Council will. Name you to find him, the council does.”
Aayla didn’t need Yoda’s word of assurance, for he had just given to her permission to find him after Skywalker’s fate was decided.

“Now is not the time for this,” Mace reiterated. “We must…”

“Perhaps it would be best if Master Secura and I are allowed to spend some time together in the Jedi Gardens,” Padme suggested. She didn’t want to see Master Windu come down on her any further and wanted to use her new found status as the wife of the Chosen One to alleviate this situation to help Aayla – perhaps even find a way to support her.

“That won’t be necessary,” Aayla told her. “I would like to spend some time with Joclad Danva in the medical ward, until Barriss puts him in the bacta tank. She tells me there is a good chance he might make it.”

“That’s wonderful news!” Padme told her excitedly. “I would like to accompany you, if it is alright.”

“It is not a pretty sight in there,” Mace warned her.

“I’ve seen worse,” Padme told him stiffly. It amazed her how someone as courageous and inspiring as Master Windu could be so cold when it came to dealing with people. Anakin was right when he called him the Iron Hand of the order and understood now why they despised each other – at least until now. “I was at Geonosis, remember?”

“Indeed,” Yoda nodded. “Go with Master Secura you may.”

Both Aayla and Padme bowed to Yoda. As Aayla turned to walk away, she gave Master Windu a cold glare that failed to dent his ego or find his heart.

No one spoke until they were far enough away for the Jedi Masters to speak freely to one another.

“Well?” Anakin asked grimly. “What is it you’re hiding?”

“Not hiding Anakin, protecting.” Master Windu corrected.

“Sounds more to me like the council is trying to cover this all up and make it all go away, than help him,” Anakin pushed. “And don’t try to tell me that Quinlan Vos is a traitor because if he was then the Council would have declared him an enemy of the Republic long ago.”

“The fact is Anakin we really don’t know,” Master Windu told him. “We don’t know where he really is and he's not been in contact with us since he went AWOL.”

“You sure seem pretty quick to judge him, Master,” Obi-Wan pointed out. “What is the real story?”

Master Windu didn’t answer.

Instead he turned to Master Yoda, who told him, “On leave, Master Vos is.”

“It doesn’t sound official,” Anakin challenged.

“It’s not,” Master Windu told him. “But Master Vos is recovering from his fall to the dark side and has shut himself off completely from the Jedi Order. He has been an undercover agent or intelligence operative for us all of his life, disappearing for long periods of the time is normal operating procedure for him.”

“So you have no way of really knowing his true intentions?” Obi-Wan asked directly.

“No we don’t.” Master Windu answered. “For all we know, he could be a traitor and still an agent for Sidious or is in some dark cave trying to recover from his ordeal. We really don’t know.”

They were interrupted when one of stormtroopers excitedly yelled out to Captain Cody, “I have a live Jedi here.”

They eagerly moved to join Cody who was already yelling to the medics to rush over with a stretcher. It wasn’t until they realized who it was that their faces all lit up with the hope that one of the legends of their order could be saved.

“It’s Master Ki-Adi-Mundi!” Cody called out excitedly. “He is still alive.”

“I’ll take more than a Sith Lord to bring me down…” Ki-Adi said groggily.

Mace Windu quickly walked over to where Ki-Adi had fallen and could not believe he was still alive after the horrible wounds he had received at the hands at Darth Maul. He knelt down besides Master Ki-Adi and could tell from his pale complexion that he was on the brink of death. The ancient Jedi Master whispered to him, “Did we prevail, Master Windu?”

Mace nodded his head solemnly. He then took Ki-Adi by his hand and clenched it while he told him, “Yes, Master Skywalker came and saved us all,”

“Then he has proven me wrong yet again.” Master Ki-Adi-Mundi replied. He tried to smile, but could only cry tears of joy for the victory Skywalker had brought them and was grateful for what he had done. A convulsion then seized the Jedi Master and coughed up blood due to the severity of his injuries that might be too serious for him to be saved. Mace let go of his hand and motioned for the troopers to take Ki-Adi to medical ward. Before the clone troopers could pick him up, he cried out, “Wait, there is something I must say to Skywalker.”

Anakin stepped forward and knelt beside the dying Jedi Master who still grasped to life. His skin was now paler than Anakin had ever seen and the Jedi Master was drenched in a cold sweat. He flailed on the stretcher like an invalid, both from spasms of pain and from the shock of injuries that might now be too far gone for even Barriss to heal.
“I’m here, Master,” Anakin told him. He reached out and took his hand, trying to give the dying Jedi Master some comfort before he passed on to the other side. Then again, if Joclad Danva could make it after the wounds he received then perhaps Ki-Adi might be able to survive his. Anakin clung to that hope despite the fact the Clone medics were already shaking their heads that he wasn’t going to make it.

“I’m sorry I ever doubted you,” Ki-Adi told him. He tried to prop himself with his good arm to look more respectable, but was his efforts were only rewarded with a spasm of convulsions that sent him into a coughing fit that made him split up blood. “I’m sorry…,” was the last thing he managed to say again before more convulsions took him into unconsciousness.
“We must rush him to medical ward,” The clones told him.

All Anakin was do was nod as he pulled away from the Jedi Masters death grip and there was nothing he could say to make what he was feeling alright.

The Clones then picked up the dying Jedi Master and began to run with haste to the medical center.

All Anakin could do was watch him go and was saddened at the thought that this was the last time he would see Ki-Adi alive.
But Master Windu had other plans grabbed Anakin by the arm and ordered, “Go with Master Kenobi to the Council chamber and wait for us there.”

“What? Shouldn’t I go…?”

“Don’t ask questions, just follow my orders,” Master Windu ordered Anakin sternly. He left doubt that his orders were not to be debated or that he had any choice in the matter. Yoda summoned his hoversled and was already hot on the troopers trail as they took Ki-Adi into the Medical Ward. He then softened up a bit as he realized Anakin wasn’t one who responded well to such direct orders without having his feelings considered. “Please, go.”

“Yes, master,” Anakin submitted while Obi-Wan led him toward the elevator that would take them up to the Council chamber.
Master Windu caught up with Yoda and followed the troopers into the Medical Ward. He stopped them before they could take him to one of the random tables and ordered, “Place him in the private room while I find Master Barriss.”

“With our help, believe Master Barriss can save him I do.”

“I agree, I will bring her immediately while you keep Master Ki-Adi company.” Yoda nodded as he followed the stretcher bearers into the private room while Mace sought out Barriss. He found her in the thick of wounded, treating a Jedi who had lost his left arm and had multiple stab wounds to the chest. He approached her as gingerly as he could ordered, “Master Barriss, I need you to come with me.”

“Not right now.” Barriss replied dryly. Currently she was focused in using her healing powers to relieve the pain of the Jedi’s wounds and try to save him.

“Why did you not just put him in a bacta tank?” Master Windu demanded. He looked at the tanks to see Padme and Aayla standing in front of the one that Joclad Danva was immersed in. Padme had her arm around the Jedi Master to comfort the Jedi Master who looked on the verge of falling apart.

“I would if there were any available,” Barriss snapped back. “Right now I’m just trying to keep the critically injured alive until Republic medics can transport them to their facilities. Until then; we can only keep them alive and as comfortable as I can, until more help arrives.”

“Barriss, I really must insist you come with me,” Master Windu pushed.

“In a moment.”

“Master Ki-Adi Mundi does not have a moment.” Mace reached out and grabbed her arm intending to drag her with him whether she wanted to come or not. “He is close to death.”

“Take your hands off me!” Barriss yelled at him and with the Force tried to shove him back. But Mace was too strong and only tightened his grip on her until all she could do was hear him.

“Ki-Adi is dying,” Mace told her. “Please, I need you to come with me.”

The realization that it was a Jedi Master from the council seemed to finally get through to her and softened her stance and submitted to his wishes. She called over a Clone medic and ordered, “Keep pressure on his wounds. Do not use bacta patches or give him any more hyposrays, otherwise he may go into shock.”

“Yes, ma’am,” he acknowledged.

“Make sure he is the first of the critical to be loaded in the transports when they come back. He needs to be rushed into the next available bacta tank.”

“Yes, ma’am,” he acknowledged again.

Barriss then stepped away and followed Mace to private room where they had taken Ki-Adi. She was beyond irritated by the manner in which Master Windu had addressed her by all day, though in truth she should be used to his manner by now and actually found herself eager to please him. She calmed down and followed him into the private room where she discovered Master Ki-Adi’s frail form on one of the surgical beds awaiting treatment. The clone medics already plugged him into what the medics referred to as simply the tank which was an artificial respirator and life support system which was now the only thing keeping Ki-Adi alive. Tubes were inserted into his nose and mouth to keep him breathing, with the tank showing a pulse that was barely visible.

“It’s a miracle he’s still alive,” she told them frankly and moved to the bed to treat him. Barriss couldn’t help but gape at Ki-Adi’s condition and marvel at the endurance the elder Jedi Master possessed that kept him from becoming one with the Force. Barriss’ immediate concern was the two gaping wounds in his midsection and reached out with the Force to examine him. One of the clones was busy tending to the stump that was left of his arm and cleaning it before he would wrap it with gauze. The wound had been cauterized, taking away any possibility that he would bleed to death from losing the arm.

“No leave it be,” she ordered. “His arm is the least of his worries right now. Treat that gash on his forehead, then put a bacta batch on it to stop the bleeding.”

“Roger,” the clone acknowledged. Even the medics were identical to their counterparts and left Barriss with the impression he just regarded her order in the same manner he would if his superior officer just asked him to clear a beachhead or take out a tank. Their adherence to obey any order made them the perfect soldier.

“His vitals are failing rapidly,” the clone reported.

“Easy,” Barriss ordered the Clone. “We still have some time.”

Ki-Adi would remain alive as long as they kept him plugged into the machine and only his higher brain functions were at risk now. The Jedi Master was also still fighting to stay alive and it gave Barriss the necessary time she needed to diagnose his condition and find the safest means in order to treat him. Except after examining him, her diagnosis was grim and even with her skills there was no way she could save him.

“His kidneys are gone,” she told both the masters frankly with a sour face. “There is nothing I can do for him.”

She abruptly turned to walk away, only to have Mace block her path before she could leave the room. Again he grabbed her, this time by the wrist, and told her, “Master Barriss, I can see that you are overwhelmed by the number of injured that have come into your care during this battle, but now we need you to drop whatever is troubling you and use your gifts to save this man. We must do everything within our power to try and save Master Ki-Adi-Mundi even if that means your patients are forced to suffer for a little while longer.”

Master Barriss pulled her arm back and again told him frankly, “I am not a miracle worker Master Windu. There is simply no way I can heal injuries of that extent.”

“Then that is why you will fail,” Yoda told her softly. She turned to the Grandmaster as he addressed her further. “Save him you can, but only if you believe you can do so.”

“I can’t,” Barriss told him again. “I don’t know how to save him.”

“Yes you do,” Master Windu pressed. “The ability to save him is within you and your gifts to heal with the Force. With our help, you can save him.”

“How?” She asked skeptically.

“We are going to assist you by reinforcing and strengthening your abilities with our own,” Master Windu told her. “It will allow you to mend his broken body and regenerate what he has lost.”

She did not look convinced and turned to Yoda who confirmed with a nod that what Master Windu suggested was really possible. Never before had such an act been attempted by a Jedi other than the myths and legends she had learned as a youngling. Darth Plaguis the Wise was the most recent Force user who was rumored to have actually brought people back from death – as well as heal either diseases or conditions that otherwise would be fatal. But he had used the dark side to do that.

There were also legends from the Old Republic of Jedi healers who were able to perform miracles using the Force and save people from death. Unfortunately all that knowledge had been lost during the first great Sith War, and until now she neither believed in the legends or that it was even possible to use the Force to save people from death. What Master Windu and Yoda were asking to do now for Master Ki-Adi would be such a miracle and left her feeling compelled to try.

“Through a Jedi healing meditation between us,” Yoda revealed. “If performed correctly, save the life of Master Ki-Adi-Mundi it will.”

“How will I know that it is working?”

“You will know.” Yoda told her. “When you are at peace; calm; focused. You will feel the power inside you grow and the life restored to Ki-Adi’s body through the Force.”

“Alright I will try.” Master Barriss replied. Her confidence in the process she was about to carry out was shaky at best, but with Master Yoda himself advocating it there was no choice but for her to try. She had performed in the past what some might have called a miracle, but completely regenerating organs was beyond what she capable of doing and all her training told her this attempt would be futile.

Master Yoda was not pleased with her approach to this as he corrected her saying, “No Master Barriss. You will either do or do not, there is no try.”

Master Barriss nodded. She understood Master Yoda’s words and embraced them. She also remembered the lessons of her teacher Luminara, who had instructed that all things were possible if one opened themselves up to the possibilities of the Force. She began to focus on her patient while the stormtrooper medic that had helped carry the dying Jedi Master advised them, “Well whatever you are going to do you had better do it fast. His vitals are almost gone.”

It was now time to act.

She placed her hands over Master Ki-Adi’s wounds and ordered the Clone Trooper to monitor Ki-Adi’s condition. “Inform me when you see any significant changes.”

Master Yoda and Windu then nodded at each other and took positions directly to the right and left of Barriss, forming a perfect triangle between them. They then extended their hands out toward Master Barriss and prepared to channel their power through her. Master Windu then addressed her on what they were about to do and warned, “Barriss you are going to feel a tingling throughout your body as we project ourselves onto you. Close your eyes and allow yourself to mold what we project upon you and transfer it onto Master Ki-Adi with your healing powers.”

Barriss closed her eyes and nodded that she was ready.

Yoda and Master Windu then extended their hands out toward her and projected what at first looked like Force lighting as it struck Master Barriss, but she did not cry out in pain as wave after wave of the raw Force energy flowed through her body. The greenish bolts were actually the living Force infused by what some Jedi may have called the unnatural tendency of the dark side. Master Yoda was able to discover this aspect of the dark side known as Force transfer centuries ago when he dabbled in the dark arts and had passed that secret onto Master Windu. It was used originally by the Sith brotherhood to transfer all their powers onto their leader before a battle to allow their combined strength to flow through him. Legends held that the ability allowed the Sith to move planets, create illusions to hide themselves, destroy entire fleets or armies using only the powers of the Force, and even save those they cared about from dying. They now shared the technique with Master Barriss with the hope that it would save Ki-Adi’s life.

Barriss at first felt strange as she felt the power of Master Yoda and Windu projected upon her. She then focused all of her strength toward the wounds of Master Ki-Adi and from her hands she felt the healing power of the Force flowing to him. Though what she was doing was having an effect she knew she would have to do even more if she was going to accomplish what needed to be done. She reached out with the Force and concentrated in channeling it directly to his kidneys to regenerate them. If this worked, Ki-Adi’s organs would be regenerated from pieces of what remained of his old ones and functional almost identical to his old ones with no chance of rejection since his body would recognize them as his own tissues.

“So far, no effect,” the clone called out.

“I need more Force,” she called out.

Yoda and Master Windu nodded to each other in approval and risked increasing the intensity of Force they projected upon her. Barriss was literally beginning to radiate with the Force, cultivating the energy within her to make her exponentially stronger and stronger. This was the most dangerous part of what they were attempting. Master Yoda knew that if something went wrong and Barriss tried to abort what she was doing, the intensity of Force that had enveloped her would implode. It would be like dropping a small bomb on the temple and would destroy not just the medical ward, but take with it most of the temple as well. It all depended on how much Force they projected upon her and if they trusted she could handle that much power. So far she was able.

As the process continued, Barriss grew more confident and wielded the power very well, impressing Yoda with how easily she was able to grasp the technique despite no formal training using the ability. Barriss was a healer and transferring the Force onto others was what she did best, making this transfer something she was accustomed – only not on this scale. She continued to increase the intensity she projected upon to Master Ki-Adi to heal him until it began to produce results. Inside the body of Master Ki-Adi, the Force was beginning to regenerate two new organs using pieces of his old ones.
Master Ki-Adi groaned in pain unexpectedly from the procedure, and began to try to resist what was happening to him.
“Something is happening!” the trooper called out. “His vitals are very unusual but it appears they are getting stronger.”
Then the unexpected happened.

Ki-Adi’s natural defenses produced by his immune system began to fight back and resist what was happening to him. Barriss felt the resistance and had to fight through it until she was able to overwhelm it. The pressure to do so forced her body to begin to contort visibly from the effort, but despite the resistance she continued to project the healing power of the Force on Ki-Adi.

The extra effort drained her considerably and left her without enough Force to finish healing Ki-Adi. The resistance within Ki-Adi formed a barrier that Barriss couldn’t push through. “I need more power!” she cried out. “Or Ki-Adi is not going to make it.”

Again Yoda nodded to Master Windu. They had no choice but to risk project themselves completely onto Master Barriss and hope it would be enough to save Ki-Adi.

“We’re giving you all we have now,” Mace told her. “Make this happen.”

Yoda now feared not only for Barriss, he feared for himself as well. If he extended himself too far he might once again be risking his life and exhaust himself to the point of death. This time if it came to that he would have to stop, knowing that he might not be able survive a second time if he extended himself too far and exhausted himself - as he had done in the main hall when he had created the Force storm. He would have to rely more heavily on Master Windu to see this through.

Master Barriss channeled the Force and now it was cleanly flowing into Master Ki-Adi as could feel that it was working.

“His vitals are steadily improving,” the trooper confirmed. He begin to pull away some of the tubes inserted into Ki-Adi that was keeping him alive and the Jedi Master responded by being able to breathe on his own. His eyes still remained closed, but he no longer looked as pale as before and his heart rate was back to normal. “Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s working.”

Barriss was beginning to believe she could actually do this. Ki-Adi’s new kidneys were almost fully regenerated and his immune system was no match for her as she projected the Force from the deepest reaches of her essence. She had to fight the sensation to kneel down as her legs were beginning to buckle from under her while her body was beginning to sway and rock as the Force continued to contort her body. She gritted her teeth painfully as it now physically hurt for her to continue, but she knew if she stopped the organs she had developed inside him would fail and Master Ki-Adi would still die.

“Vitals are vastly improving.” The clone announced.

Master Yoda then cried out in pain and had to stop projecting himself. Yoda lurched backwards and lost his balance, his bad leg unable to support his weight as he collapsed to the floor. The Grandmaster passed out, both from exhaustion and bodily fatigue.

“Yoda!” Barriss called out.

Mace looked over to see Yoda was alright and had stopped himself before he extended himself too far. The Grandmaster had passed out, but he was still breathing and looked very calm – like he was asleep. Mace stepped forward and put both of his hands on Barriss’ shoulders to help steady her.

“He’ll be alright,” Mace assured her. “Now let’s finish this.”

Mace channeled the Force all around him and resumed transferring it into Barriss who physically was beginning to deteriorate from the effort to project so much Force upon Ki-Adi.

“I’m scared,” she told Master Windu. “What if this turns me into some kind of monster?”

“You won’t,” he assured her. “I won’t allow that to happen.”

Mace’s words reassured her and she resumed channeling the Force into Ki-Adi’s kidneys. But the more she drew on the Force to save Ki-Adi, she could also feel more of her continue to slip away and the temptation to fall to the dark side became harder and harder to resist. So much power now flowed through her fingertips and as Ki-Adi continued to be healed by it, she also realized that she could harness that power to destroy life as well.

“I can’t!” she cried out and tried to pull away.

But Mace stopped her and placed his hands over hers, holding them over Ki-Adi’s stomach. “Yes you can,” Mace ordered. “You must.”

“Why should I?”

Mace then leaned down and kissed her.

At first she tried to pull away, only to discover that she really didn’t really want to. She returned his kiss and channeled between them something far more powerful than she had ever felt before. The new bond between them sent a surge of healing Force through Ki-Adi that made his entire body spasm. A surge of light exploded all around them as the Force renewed Ki-Adi’s life, bringing him back from death.

“That is why,” Mace told her. He didn’t let go of her hands, telling her, “Now you know.”

Ki-Adi awakened with a start. He saw Master Windu and Master Barriss standing over him holding hands, along with the clone medic who looked stunned beyond belief. Barriss simply collapsed in Mace’s arms, both out of fatigue of what she just went through and from the newfound feelings she had for Master Windu. Yoda awakened and proceeded to sit back up. His eyes widened as he saw what was going on before him and was overjoyed to see Ki-Adi had been saved. He got back in his hover sled and floated over to see Ki-Adi reborn.

“What is going on!” Ki-Adi cried out.

“You’re lucky to be alive,” the medic told him and began to do a complete scan of his body.

Master Windu used smelling salt to wake Barriss back up and then transferred into her some more Force to help her recover. They said nothing to each other while Mace continued to hold her and she made no effort to pull away from him. Only the concern for Master Ki-Adi separated them, forcing her to get back to attend him. Mace didn’t follow her, instead going to side of Yoda where he would stand with him. For the moment, they pretended that nothing between them had actually happened between them – yet they couldn’t stop taking their eyes off of each other.

“What just happened to me?” Ki-Adi demanded.

“Used a Force meditation technique to save you, we did,” Yoda told him. “Owe your life to Master Barriss, you do.”
Ki-Adi pulled open his robe with his hand and was astonished to see that his wounds were completely healed and not even a scar remained where Maul’s blades had stabbed into him.

The vitals on Ki-Adi remained very strong, yet despite them the clone medic meticulously scanned the abdominal area. He tried to sit back up, but the clone advised him not to do so. “I need to fully examine you first, Master Ki-Adi-Mundi.” Medical technology had advanced a great deal over the last several hundred years where the hand held scanners could diagnose a patient’s conditions with a 99.99% chance of accuracy. His objective however was not to diagnose a condition of Master Ki-Adi, but to examine his newly formed kidneys and that they were functioning correctly.

“This is amazing,” the clone reported. “He has fully recovered and his kidney’s are functioning normally. It is a miracle!”
“Indeed, it is.” Yoda replied.

“I sure don’t feel like it.” Ki-Adi grumbled.

“You suffered a concussion and are still disorientated after losing your left arm,” he told him. “I’ll get started right away on fabricating a new arm for you and you’ll be back on your feet in no time.”

The clone rushed out of the private room, eager to both get the appendage and spread the word about what just happened.
“Rest you need,” Yoda told him.

“There will be an emergency council session to decide the fate of Skywalker,” Master Windu told him.

Ki-Adi simply nodded in understanding.

“Need your support, I do.” Yoda told him. “Bring balance to the Force, Skywalker must.”

“I have never believed in the prophecy,” Ki-Adi told him flatly. “I only believe in the code.”

“But believe Skywalker is the Chosen One, do you not?” Yoda challenged.

“Whether he is or not makes no difference,” Ki-Adi gestured dismissively. “He has broken the Code and we must treat him no differently than anyone else.”

“After all he did today and what we did to save you…” Mace began to say to confront him while his temper began to spiral out of control.

“It doesn’t change the fact that it was wrong, does it?” Ki-Adi challenged.

“From your point of view,” Barriss answered. “Or would you rather have not survived.”

“The Jedi Code is all that matters.” Ki-Adi answered her stubbornly. “It has been the guiding point in our lives for thousands of years and will continue to be so on long after I am gone.”

“What good is a code if none of us are left alive to follow it?” Mace challenged him. “If we don’t change now and embrace
the prophecy, the Jedi Order will not survive.”

Ki-Adi did not respond to that and remained silently stubborn. He knew the threat as well as they did and that if they didn’t change, then Sidious would destroy them and forge a new Sith dynasty over their ruins.

Yoda stared at him disbelieving. The Jedi Master still laid there on his death bed and was still impossibly stubborn to the change that Skywalker represented. Yoda had hoped that this near death experience would have changed the elder to see things differently, but clearly he was wrong.

“A decision of conscience this is, not principle,” Yoda told him. “Make the right choice, I hope you will.”

With that Yoda turned and left Mace and Barriss to follow in his wake. They caught up to him outside the medical ward where they could discuss their thoughts privately. The look of disappointment on Yoda’s face was easy to read and left Mace with the cold feeling that they had just made a serious mistake in saving Ki-Adi from death. They had used the Force to cheat death and now was it repaying them by using Ki-Adi as the agent to ending their dream.

“That bastard,” Mace grumbled. He then looked at Barriss and complained, “He didn’t even thank us for saving his life.”

“Calm yourself,” Yoda ordered. “Regret saving Ki’s life, I do not.”

“I could order him to be confined to the Medical Ward for treatment and taken off of active duty until this session is over,” Barriss offered.

Yoda shook his head in disapproval.

“Do that, we must not,” Yoda told her. “Need him on our side, we do.”

“Why?” she asked, not understanding.

“Ki-Adi has always been the leader of the hardliners and hardcore followers of the Code,” Mace explained to her. “If we decide this issue without him, he is stubborn enough to take his followers and form a split in the ranks – perhaps even leave the Order, or worse cause a civil war within our ranks.”

“Then why did we save him?” Barriss asked.

“Same reason,” Mace answered. “We need the hardcore followers of the Code to go along with this, and Ki-Adi is the only one who could rally them all to this cause.”

“But surely they would not dare challenge the wisdom of the Council,” Barriss objected. “Or challenge Yoda.”

“They will if they feel excluded from what is really about to be decided,” Mace warned her. “This is not just about keeping Anakin apart of the Order. This session will decide whether we abolish the Jedi Code itself so that a New Jedi Order may rise in its place. Ki-Adi knows this and also knows that anything short of a unanimous vote will doom this from ever happening. He will fight this because he is so hopelessly depended on the Code, like so many others, that he would rather die than see it go away.”

“I can understand their reluctance to change,” Barriss acknowledged. “The code is all they know.”

“But necessary it is, if we all are to become balanced in the Force,” Yoda explained.

“It is what Yoda has worked for hundreds of years to bring forth,” Mace told her.

“But even if we fail, surely we could keep trying,” Barriss suggested optimistically.

Yoda shook his head regrettably.

“Only once in a thousand years, does an opportunity come to bring balance to the Force,” Yoda told her.

“Today is that day,” Master Windu confirmed. “If we fail now, we will have to wait another thousand years for another chance.”

“Amazing…” was all Barriss could manage to say.

“Everything has lined up for this happen and the circle is now complete,” Mace told her. “The Chosen One was born, shroud of the dark side fell, the Chosen One made his choice, and now the council must decide if they shall allow the Chosen One to fulfill the prophecy and bring balance to the Force.”

“Is there no other way?”

“None,” Mace told her. “This is the challenge that now rests before us.”

“Well you have my support.” She told them.

“Glad to hear that, I am,” Yoda told her with a smile. “Open to this change, you always were.”

Barriss couldn’t help but blush and even Mace felt uncomfortable from Yoda’s words. Had he seen them kiss and if he had, how would they deal with this if they were unsuccessful in convincing the Council to abolish the Jedi Code. They could both in the same boat with Anakin if they weren’t careful and neither of them wanted to be in that position.

“We will make this happen,” Master Windu assured her. He looked ready to go to war with Master Ki-Adi, along with anyone else who dared oppose him, over this issue and was resolved not too lose it.

“How far are you prepared to take this?” Barriss asked.

“As far as we must,” Mace told her. “Qui-Gon died to fulfill this prophecy along with countless others since that day to allow us to have this opportunity. We owe it just as much to them as we do the Chosen One to see this through, and we must be prepared to sacrifice everything we have if we are to achieve this dream.”

“What can I do help?”

“Just tend Ki-Adi’s injuries and have him ready for the Council session when it begins in two hours.”

“I can do that,” She assured them both. “I don’t expect Master Ki-Adi to resist my treatment and will want to be there as
much as I. He’ll be ready.”

“Good.”

“Counting on you, we are,” Yoda told her.

She bowed to both of them and gave Master Windu a parting smile before she returned to the Medical Ward to carry out her duties. He watched her go and found he was unable to take his eyes off of her. His thoughts dwelled only on her and wondered if he was really in love. He had never been in love before and couldn’t help but dwell if this was natural or something else entirely. All he knew was that he didn’t want to stop feeling this way.

“Not easy, this will be,” Yoda warned him softly.

“I know.”

“Relieved I am that doing this together we are. Unable to do this without you, I would,” Yoda told him. “Long have I feared you would be stubborn to change and be the one who would divide the council against me.”

“I would never betray you.”

“Questioning your loyalty, I am not,” Yoda explained. “Just your motives.”

He paused, before carefully answering, “I won’t deny I have my own reasons to see Anakin bring the Force into balance, but mostly I am doing this because I believe it is the right thing to do.”

Master Windu watched Barriss disappear inside the medical ward and knew she wasn’t the only reason he wanted to see the Force brought into balance. The truth was that Anakin had earned his trust and since saving his life he come to respect the Chosen One as a friend. He owed it to Anakin to see this through, but now it was growing clear that he would have supported him regardless and was ready to become balanced in the Force himself.

“Hearing you say that, brings warm feelings to my heart.”

Just as Yoda and Master Windu were about to head to the council chamber to prepare Skywalker for what was to come, Padawan
Nagashi approached them and bowed to show his respect. The Padawans now served a variety of different duties ranging from helping clean up debris to running messages back and forth to different areas of the temple. With most of the automated systems still down, including communications, the Order depended on the Padawans to carry out this important duty and spread them out so there was a Jedi presence in every vital area of the temple. Nagashi was assigned with Zett Jukassa, Whie Malreaux, and Scout in the Hanger Bay where they would give Republic personnel directions on where to go, run messages back and forth, and help the Knights stationed there dock ships.

“Yes Padawan?” Master Windu asked him directly.

“Masters; Chancellor Organa has landed at the Hanger Bay and requests a private audience with both of you that is vital to the survival of the Republic.”

“We will meet him there shortly,” Mace told him. “Thank you.”

Nagashi bowed again to the masters after Master Windu dismissed him and he ran back to the Hanger Bay to tell the Chancellor they were on their way.

“I don’t sense any danger,” Master Windu told him. “It must be something else.”

“Passed, the storm has,” Yoda agreed. “No longer in danger we are.”

“Then it must be about Skywalker.”

Again Yoda nodded in agreement with Master Windu. Though Anakin was a powerful figure in the Jedi ranks, the Clone War also made him a prominent figure and hero to billions of Republic citizens who followed his deeds. The Republic had banked on his image to help finance the war effort, along with literally turning Anakin into the Republic’s savior – champion of peace and justice in the galaxy. If Anakin’s legacy was tarnished by this, he would become a fallen hero and disgrace to the Republic.
Chancellor Organa wasn’t about to allow that to happen.

“Best we not the keep the Chancellor waiting.”

Yoda and Master anxiously headed toward the Hanger Bay, both eager to hear what it was he had to say.

Politics is such a wonderful thing, turning you into a proeminent healer so that you will ensure peace within the order... really nice.
The Jedi and the Sith are quite similar indeed.

FINALLY the Master's of the council are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. Anakin IS their savior, if only they let him be. And I agree, the Jedi need to embrace emotions, relationships and marriage if they are to survive, in effect 'breeding' a new legion of strong force sensitives, born to two Jedi. GREAT chapter. Good to hear, there is another story coming on the heals of this one.

The Jedi still need to shut down Kamino... No need for Clones now.

Interesting chapter, but one quick grammar critique:
Milteck posted:

“Why did you not just put him in a bacta tank?” Master Windu demanded. He looked at the tanks to see Padme and Aayla standing in front of the one that Joclad Danva was emerged in. Padme had her arm around the Jedi Master to comfort the Jedi Master who looked on the verge of falling apart.

The bolded word should immersed

Another intersting chapter, as Vos' roll in this whole thing is a very odd twist to Sidious' plan. I can't blame Aayla to be upset, and PAdme steps in; she is as much of a negotiator as Obi-Wan.
It amazed me how quick people were to distrust Yoda and Mace. Sounds like they have a PR battle to win.
I liked the way Barriss healed Ki-Adi, regardless of Mace and Yoda's motivation, which I honestly think was to save a friend and fellow Jedi. While the Jedi may not fear death, I don't think they will give up on someone who can be saved. I also wondered if the Jedi could use the converse of Force lighting, because I remember reading somewhere that the Jedi have no counter to "Force lightning." I think that Barris' ability would the counter, because Jedi preserve life, not destroy it.
Looking forward to the next chapter!

Okay, First of all this is about the best AU I've ever read. Also its pretty cool that Mace and Barris are in love, applause I would never have guessed that. Also I hope they don't expel Anikan. praying One question though do you have books that have been published? thinking

[/b]megacrafter2 The Mace and Barriss relationship will be intersting. That much I promise

Darth_Kripp Politics perhaps played into the fate of things to come, you will have to read on to find out. The Jedi are indeed very similar, including their pursuit for power.

raptor517 Ki-Adi is a good man, just old, stubburn, and difficult to change.

MoAngel The Masters are indeed seeing the light of change, but will they all be able to accept it? Anakin is their savior, though I don't see selective breeding in their future.

Ocelotl Not sure about that, there are still wars to fight.

daramin_of_the_way Thanks for your grammer correction. Glad you enjoyed the Vos twist, have been getting great feedback from it. Yoda and Mace do indeed have a PR battle to win and they intend to win it. Their attempt to save to ki-Adi was indeed to save his life and will now try to save him again as they attempt to bring balance to Force. Have not realy thought about the Force lightning counter with the Force transfer ability and perhaps that was what Yoda used against Sidious in ROTS.

Avooc Thank you for your praise for this story and glad you have enjoyed it so much. Mace and Barriss relationship will get intersting, that much I promise. I hope they don't expell Anakin either. I am still working on getting published but still no luck. Thanks for your feedback.
