Darth Sidious believed strongly that he was the greatest Sith to ever take on the faith and was truly devout to its principles. He allowed himself to be consumed with the dark ambitions of lust for power and hatred of the Jedi. His knowledge of the dark side combined with his aristocratic heritage and political zeal made him a truly formidable Sith lord.
However, he did not allow himself to forget about one universal Sith teaching handed down by one of the greatest Sith Lords Darth Bane, who believed a Sith could only have one apprentice. He understood the danger to the master to have more then one apprentice, who could expose his order to the Jedi or cooperate together to attempt to destroy their master. Palpatine understood his final right of passage to Sith Lord by slaying his former master Darth Plagues the Wise to become the true master of the Sith. It was the final test for a Sith to prove they were worthy to be mentioned in the legacy of Sith Lords.
Palpatine knew that it was a natural dark ambition for lust of power of the Sith to rise up against their master. It was Darth Maul’s one short coming as a Sith apprentice, that he would not try to destroy him that made him weak in Palpatine’s eyes. Even his second apprentice Lord Tyranus lacked that dark ambition as he viewed himself as a powerful Sith lord and soldier of the cause. Perhaps it was the true nature of Anakin Skywalker that drew Palpatine to him like a moth to the flame and try to lure him to dark side as he was convinced that he had the potential to become greater then even himself. It was that failure that had truly doomed him. Had he succeeded, Anakin would have saved him from being slaughtered by the Jedi and Sidious would then have possessed a true apprentice worthy of being Sith. Together they could have then proceeded to destroy the Jedi Order and rule the galaxy together for thousands of years. Anakin had made his choice and the betrayal would be all Darth Sidious would ever need to fuel his dark desire to destroy the Republic and most importantly the Jedi Order.
Palpatine may have believed in having just one apprentice, but that did not exclude him from using dark assassins gifted in the force as mercenaries. He had attempted to use one named Asajj Ventress to attempt to destroy Anakin Skywalker while he was still padawan. Though she had failed to destroy him, it did bring to him the knowledge that Anakin was a young man full of ambition, fear, and anger. It was a combination that when he used in fighting made him nearly invincible as he could defeat any opponent regardless of skill level. Darth Tyranus had even recognized these traits of the young Jedi when he dueled him on Geonosis and though had soundly defeated him could see Skywalker’s potential in the Sith.
Darth Sidious opened back the communications line and opened them with a woman who he discovered out in the outer rim that possessed knowledge of the force. He had discovered Xio Jade and her entire family living in a state of poverty and when Darth Sidious approached the middle aged woman, she eagerly accepted his offer to train her in the dark arts on Coruscant in exchange for her family being taken care of. Darth Sidious was also stunned to find that all the red haired women in her family seemed to all share the same gift as they could all feel and wield the force. He did not actually take her on as a full fledged apprentice as he simply taught her enough to survive; never developing her talents to the extent he had with Darth Maul or Darth Tyranus. Xio Jade was clearly not a match for a Jedi, but he had used her for assassination missions against senators and other figures who had posed a threat to his plans. He soon found she was a very effective killer and would now call upon her skills once again as his Hand to serve him yet again.
The communications line continued to buzz and Darth Sidious was beginning to grow impatient as he did not like being on hold for this long. He did have to consider that perhaps she had gone dark upon hearing of his death and that he may never be able to contact her again. However, he felt there was something else behind this as when he tried to reach out toward Jade with the force, he could feel the sensation of fear. There was much fear in her now.
Then abruptly the communications line opened and Xio Jade’s expression of shock was clearly displayed on her face as she questionably exclaimed, “Aren’t you supposed to be dead?”
Darth Sidious was not pleased as he dryly snapped out at her, “When I call upon your services, you are not to address me as you just did or question my very validity. Are we clear?”
Darth Sidious let her feel the anger in his voice and had he not needed her he may have even considered killing her. She quickly recomposed herself and replied, “My apologies my lord, I meant no disrespect.”
Darth Sidious was too irritated to accept her apology and simply chose to ignore it as he ordered her, “I have a mission for you on Coruscant.” He then inquired due to being out of touch with her since his attempted assassination by the Jedi, “What is your current status on how quickly you can arrive their?”
“I am currently orbiting the planet of Nal Hutta my Lord and can be at Coruscant within six hours.”
Darth Sidious had to control the rage that was building inside him as there was only one reason an assassin traveled to Nal Hutta. The world was controlled by the Hutts that had turned that world into a haven for criminals, bounty hunters, and assassins like Xio Jade to be able to easily find work. Though he had been killed, releasing her for that short duration to be free of him, he had hoped that she would have sought something better besides seeking employment with those disgusting slugs known as the Hutts.
“When you reach Coruscant you are to open communications with Ysanne Isard whom is currently on the planet conducting intelligence operations now regarding the location of your targets.” Darth Sidious then sent her a coded transmission which contained the coded frequency she would need to contact her. “Timing will be critical as you must silence the targets that Ysanne Isard provides for you as they could expose secrets about my reign as Chancellor.”
“Understood my lord, I will not fail you.”
That pleased Darth Sidious as he replied with contempt still present in his voice, “Good.” Before ending the transmission he decided he needed to give her further motivation as he warned her, “Xio Jade, failure is not an option in this matter and I will view any failure on your part as incompetence. Do not fail me!”
Darth Sidious clicked off the communications before she could reply to him as he was finding himself being consumed with rage. Xio Jade had served him sufficiently in the past. But now with so much at stake for him in what would be his second campaign to destroy the Republic; he did not trust that she could get the job done. If one of the aids happened to fall into the hands of the Jedi and exposed his secrets such as the Death Star or his secrets projects on Kamino then it would be all over.
There was only one option for Darth Sidious now as Darth Maul timely entered the cloning room and announced to his master, “The Dark Clone battalions will be ready to depart within the hour my lord.”
“Very good.” He spun his chair around and faced Darth Maul who was now kneeling before him waiting for his next order. With what he needed on Coruscant, he had to risk sending his apprentice otherwise he was convinced Xio Jade would fail in her assignment and the Jedi would be well prepared for what was to come.
“Lord Maul, I will need you to depart at once for Coruscant where you are to destroy my former assistants at the Senate Mas Amedda and Sly Moore. Once you get to Coruscant contact Ysanne Isard who will give you their locations.” Palpatine then hit a key sequence on his chair followed by a data card being produced with the coded frequency needed to contact Isard.
Darth Maul rose accepting the card and announced to Lord Sidious, “It will be done my lord.”
Before Darth Maul could leave Darth Sidious gave him one final order, “Also there will be an assassin named Xio Jade also searching to kill these two aids. Once she has completed her task she will be of no further use to us; see to it she is taken care of.” Palpatine emphasized his final point by adding irritation to his voice as Xio Jade was no longer necessary or desired to be in his service.
Maul nodded as he understood his master wishes as he replied, “I will see to it she is taken care of.”
Darth Maul now had completely turned around and was exiting the room when the voice of Palpatine called out to him. “One last thing Lord Maul, we are beyond the point where failure is an option and I will accept nothing less then success from you for now on. Do not fail me Lord Maul.”
Darth Maul turned to face his master with fresh in his memory his failure to destroy the Jedi at Naboo. Since that day, he had hoped for the chance to redeem his failure. He knew now that with Darth Sidious exposed and destroyed by the Jedi this was their last chance to destroy the Jedi. Upon being resurrected, Darth Maul deepened his training as he protected the clone chamber of his master during his ten years of servitude where he had learned to wield the dreaded Sith Lightning in addition to expanding his own knowledge of the force. He had been waiting for this day for ten years for a chance to redeem himself and he was not about to fail himself or his master now, “Lord Sidious, I will not fail you and this time we will crush the Jedi Order once and for all. I shall join you as we bathe in their blood and burn their temple down to the very ground of Coruscant.”
Darth Maul did not care or wait for his Master’s approval as he exited the room and headed for his ship as already a deep sensation of rage was beginning to engulf him. He hated the Jedi order so much that it made him sick to know the order was still intact with much of its leadership still alive. The focal point of his hatred was now on the Jedi named Anakin Skywalker who had destroyed his master and Obi-Wan Kenobi that had slain him on Naboo. Darth Maul had unfinished business with the Jedi Order and looked forward to exacting his revenge upon them.
Darth Sidious, meanwhile, was pleased with his apprentice as he could feel his rage building with each step he took toward his ship. Palpatine for the first time since he had been resurrected relaxed in his chair as everything was going according to plan. He was very confident that Darth Maul would not fail and that very shortly he would bring upon the Jedi a thousand different horrors that before they could have only envisioned in their nightmare. Darth Sidious would make the Jedi pay for destroying him and with their destruction so too would the Republic as if he did not control it then no one would.
Then without warning, Darth Sidious felt as though his head had been smashed by something hard followed by screaming in agony. He brought his hands to his temples and knelt down between his legs as he initially feared that something had gone wrong when his clone had been produced. It took all the strength of the dark side to recompose himself as he brought himself back up into a seated position at the communications consol. He then realized that this had nothing to do with the cloning process that had resurrected him. Darth Sidious was now under attack by an ancient enemy, one who had been terrorizing him for years with his powerful dark presence.
The sound of dark laughter forced him to cover his ears as the spiritual essence of Exar Kun was now standing before him. His face was distorted by the hate of a Sith who had been physically destroyed 4000 years ago. One of the most powerful Sith who ever lived, he had been also one of the most technologically innovative by being the first to build and use a double bladed lightsaber. He was also the first to learn how to cheat his death by fusing his spiritual energy to an object, a secret teaching passed on to Darth Sidious by his mentor Darth Plagues the Wise.
Darth Sidious then realized what Exar Kun had done to him as he cried out to him, “Why are you blocking my ability to use the gift of foresight?”
“An incentive to make you cooperate with me and share the secret of how you were physically able to cheat death.” Exar Kun demanded as he stood before Darth Sidious, projecting upon him all the dark abilities he had learned in his 4000 years of solitude and entrapment on Yavin 4. He had learned to project himself beyond the confines of his planet, but most importantly learn to manipulate the dark side of the force in the real world. He then threatened, “Or perhaps I should instead appear before the Jedi to inform them of your resurrection.”
“If you do that, I will go into hiding and you will never escape from the confines of your spiritual prison.” Darth Sidious snapped back as he was not going to be threatened into submission. It had been an empty threat by Exar Kun to approach the Jedi as he despised them even more then Darth Sidious did. Darth Sidious also knew that if Exar Kun did expose him before he could re-establish himself, he would choose to go back into hiding and use his cloning technology combined with his patience to wait for his opportunity to strike.
He had no intention of bringing back Exar Kun, who had appeared before him when he had felt the resurrection of Darth Maul. Exar Kun had tried then to force him into submission, but had ultimately backed down due to Darth Sidious promising that once the Republic was under his control he would bring him back. It had been a promise that Darth Sidious knew only bought him some time as Exar Kun recognized how advantageous it would be to return to a galaxy controlled by the Sith.
Exar Kun had been one of the primary reasons he had wanted to build the Death Star as he could use the superweapon to destroy his planet and end his threat to him for all time. Darth Sidious threatened him by saying, “Release your hold over me so I can fulfill my destiny and destroy both the Republic and the Jedi Order.”
But Exar Kun was not going to back down this time as Darth Sidious now needed him if he was going to destroy the Republic. Exar Kun reminded him of his failure by saying, “You had your chance Lord Sidious to topple the Republic and Jedi Order; you failed.” Exar Kun then extended his hand out toward him and clenched it in a fist as he beckoned, “Resurrect me and together we will finish what you started.”
“No.” Darth Sidious stubbornly and defiantly replied, knowing full well that if he did resurrect Exar Kun then he would either destroy him or subjugate him as his Sith Apprentice. He then made his decision final by saying, “I will not resurrect you, regardless of what the future may bring.”
“You are a fool!” Exar Kun screamed at him followed by threatening, “I will not allow you access to your give of foresight until you give me what I want.”
Darth Sidious was not intimidated as he replied, “I am not defeated yet, I still have many resources to use against the Republic and the loyalty of most of the Republic fleet.”
“Unfortunate Darth Sidious that you now no longer have access to your most powerful ability, to see into the future and foresee how to manipulate your enemies to your advantage.”
Darth Sidious unconfidently replied, “I will just have to do my best without it.”
Exar Kun smiled sinisterly at Darth Sidious as he said, “I have all the time in the world Darth Sidious to watch you fail. There will come a time when you will need your ability and I will make you pay the ultimate price to possess it.”
Exar Kun then laughed brazenly at Darth Sidious followed by vanishing, leaving Darth Sidious sitting in a state of disbelief. There would be no outmaneuvering of Exar Kun this time and he conceded he might have to give in to what he wanted because he relied heavily on his gift of foresight to manipulate his opponents. He felt naked without it.
Darth Sidious forced himself to refocus on the task at hand and try not too think of what had just transpired. His head no longer throbbed in pain as he had physically adjusted to Exar Kun’s using his dark abilities to block his gift of foresight. But the damage had been done as he would have to rely on making sound decisions based on just what was presented before him and not be able to foresee how his choices affected the future.
This second campaign would be different as he would be openly leading the campaign as Darth Sidious with no deception of his image to those closest to him. He would be directly leading his military might as he rose from his chair and began to walk toward the platform where his new army of force trained Dark Clones were all standing at attention. Dressed in dark black armor they looked impressive and intimidating which would serve his purpose all to well. Only the resounding dark laughter of Exar Kun inside his head gave him any doubts that he would prevail, his confidence was now understandably shaken.

Great update, and Exar Kun is back (almost) in business. I always loved that character. lol. And the Jade family is it? Loved that nod. But no Mara? I guess she would be pretty young at this time, unless you threw that out the window. lol
Overall it was a great step forward, but I must say, I miss Obi-Wan and the Jedi, though I clearly understand the reasons, I just miss Obi-Wan.

Exar Kun, what a surprise indeed!  Perhaps Lord Sidious should reconsider his plans. Destroying Exar Kun would be, in my opinion, his first priority, so he can become the true master of the Sith.

I am glad you enjoyed the introduction of Exar Kun into this story as he becomes Darth Sidious's tormentor. Xio Jade is the mother of Mara Jade, I wanted to use that character to set up the ground work for in a future story adding Mara.
Obi-Wan will be coming soon enough:) The next chapters will be Jedi chapters

There is too much involved in destroying Exar Kun and one of his primary reasons for building the Death Star was to have a weapon that could destroy Yavin 4, thus destroying Exar Kun for all time. At the moment, Exar Kun is more then a pest then a threat and Darth Sidious is not allowing his presence from altering his plans.

Coruscant-Estate of Senator Amidala
Anakin tossed and turned in the bed as what he was currently seeing in his dream was not pleasant. It had started in better times when he was a younger man receiving guidance from Chancellor Palpatine in his office in Coruscant. He had gone to Palpatine for advice and he had encouraged him to push hard to excel within the Jedi Order and to make himself indispensable to the Republic. He also encouraged young Anakin to open himself up to the feelings he held back and to always do what his heart told him was right. He believed that if Anakin truly opened himself up to his true nature, then there was nothing out there that could stand in the way of his dreams.
The voice of Palpatine then continued as with a stern tone he explained to him, “The path that the force will guide you on will not be easy or understood by those around you in the Jedi order. Jedi should not have to be forced to make the choices you have made.” The scenery then changed back to when he was on Tatooine as a young boy as he left with Qui-Gon to join the Jedi order. The image of his mother stood somberly as she waved good bye to him and her image began to fade as he was taken further and further away.
“Mom.” He cried out in his sleep as he turned back over unaware that he was dreaming.
The voice of Palpatine then returned as it whispered to him, “You must make those pay that have hurt the ones you love.” He then found himself back in the Tuskan raider camp, but it was not when he had come to rescue his mother, but appeared to be a much earlier time when he first started having the dreams about her. The Tuskans were all celebrating something around a blazing camp fire and Anakin tried to understand what it was they were doing. Then he saw it and felt himself consumed with anger as he viewed his mom being dragged away from the camp fire with her hands bound by robe with a single Tuskan pulling her along. His eyes widened as he saw him take her unwillingly into his tent and with all the voice of his lungs shouted for him to stop.
He now understood what was happening as it was a marriage ceremony and that his mother had been forcibly married to that Tuskan. He did not have to imagine what was about to go on inside the tent and was horrified by what was about to be done. However, something happened that was unexpected as he heard what sounded like a Tuskan howling in pain followed shortly by the flap of the tent being torn open. His mother scurried out covered with blood over her dress and down her arm. Anakin first thought the Tuskan had hurt her but she was holding a knife and he understood that she had used it to defend herself.
The Tuskans around the camp fire had noticed the disturbance and began to slowly approach her holding their weapons. Many with Tuskans with riffles were aiming them at her while others with their traditional clubs begin to slowly stalk towards her. There was no chance for her escape as there were too many but she held out her knife threatening to stab any whom tried to touch her.
Anakin cried out again for his mom trying to run and tried to assist her, but found himself unable to move as the Tuskans continued to move toward her. One had moved around to her left and snuck up behind her, striking her against the back of her head with his club. She cried out in pain as she collapsed to the ground and the Tuskans dragged her unconscious body back towards the tent where he had found her during his rescue attempt.
Then the scenery changed once again and he found himself standing in front of the tent with his lightsaber ignited. He cut through the tent just as he had before to find his mother close to death. It had been clear to him when he had found her the first time that the Tuskans had tortured her but his dream revealed to him that due to their customs, they had not given her food or drink until she agreed to marry one of them. His mother’s strength did not go unnoticed to him this time as she had always been strong during their time of bondage as slaves in Mos Eisley. He cut her restraints and held her as she recognized him and smiled seeing how well he had grown. Like before she died in his arms and once again the pain, anger, and grief filled him over what the Tuskans had done to her.
The voice of Palpatine then returned beckoning for him to act on his feelings, “You must make them pay for what they have done!” Just as before he remembered exiting the tent and killing every Tuskan he could find. He remembered how he had killed each Tuskan Raider that had attacked him followed by seeking out any Tuskan who was left and slaying them regardless of age or sex. His dream made him relive each moment as he killed each Tuskan warrior regardless of what weapon they used against him or how many of them charged to try and overwhelm him.
The voice of Palpatine then returned ordering him, “You must show no mercy, kill each and every one of them down to the last child.” He remembered barging in each tent to find the helpless women and their children whom he slaughtered regardless of their pleas to him. He clearly remembered the human woman whom raced out a tent hugging him as if he was her savior. Anakin truly regretted what he did next as he pushed her off of him and then sliced her in two just as he had done to every other Tuskan he had encountered. Then came the pair of young heads from the tent that cried in horror for what Anakin had done and Anakin did not spare them from his rage as he stepped over their mothers corpse as he made his way to their tent.
Everything then went black as the voice of Palpatine then returned, “You must now fulfill your destiny Skywalker.” He then saw himself walking into the Jedi temple with behind him a full squad of Republic clone soldiers. His lightsaber was ignited as he made his way to the Temple’s entrance while feeling the same degrees of hatred that he experienced when he had destroyed the Tuskan camp all those years ago.
The voice of Palpatine returned again beckoning him once again, “Fulfill your destiny Skywalker and your path towards the Dark side will be complete!” His image then changed as he began to appear ghostly as his eyes turned deep black and his face began to look like a skull. The black robe changed to a Sith robe while all around him everything began to burn and catch fire except for the clones who continued to march behind him carrying out his will. A Jedi then appeared before him in his dream and the ghostly Sith image that had replaced him as he attacked the unsuspecting Jedi Knight whom had crossed his path destroying him.
“No!!!!” He yelled out as he awakened and rose up from the bed. He was sweating profusely as he held up his hands to his face trying to come to grips with what he had just experienced. Padme also awakened as she was startled by Anakin’s agonizing scream and sat up in bed and began to try to comfort him. The babies were also awakened as they began to cry loudly further disturbing Padme, who had just successfully put them both down just an hour ago.
“Was it the same dream?” She asked him with deep concern in her voice.
Anakin got up from the bed as he did not want to be touched right now. He shook his head negatively as he replied, “Not this time, the dream was much worse and much more terrifying.”
Anakin began to get dressed in his Jedi robes which did not go unnoticed by Padme whom asked with deeper concern, “Where are you going?”
“To the Jedi Temple.” Anakin irritably replied and began to feel Padme’s fear for what Anakin was feeling at the moment. He further opened up to her by saying, “I must understand why I am having these dreams and their meaning otherwise….”
Anakin paused as he did not want to concern her about his dream this time as it was directed solely at him. His first dream had accurately predicted the death of his mother, but the second did not happen bringing much relief to Anakin. This dream, however, was about Anakin and if he interpreted the dream right it implied it was his destiny to turn towards the dark side.
“Otherwise what?” Padme nervously replied as she got up to block Anakin from leaving the room. “Anakin please tell me what is going on!”
Anakin was now fully dressed and as he turned found Padme standing directly in his way. Instead of trying to push his way out of the room he decided to what his wife called his seldom used skill of charm to get out of this situation. “I am certain everything will be made clear now that I am a Jedi Master and have earned the trust of the Jedi. One way or the other, I will learn the true meaning behind these dreams and hopefully be able to bring clarity to them.”
He then pulled his wife to him and held her in his arms holding her close to him. How he loved the feeling of her warm body against his and also that her head always pressed into his chest as he held her. She was a good foot shorter then he was which made passionate embraces with her sometimes complicated. It did not change the way he felt about her in the slightest and found her stature to be one of the cutest things about her.
“When I return; hopefully we will be able to put these dreams behind us and move on with our lives.” He then leaned down and kissed her as he made his way out of the room and towards the front door. Padme’s concern did not diminish as she watched him go but made no attempts to stop him as she understood this was something he was going to have to figure out on his own. Once again the twins began to cry and Padme sighed as she made her way to the baby’s room hoping to calm them down and she could get some much needed sleep.
