	And so it ends. It's been a lot of fun writing this trilogy. This song, O Fortuna by Carl Orff, is definitely one of my favorite songs. I thought it would fit in very nicely with the plot I'd been thinking up, so I now bring you "Per Sortem Sternit Fortem" (Fate Cruses the Brave). Title: "Per Sortem Sternit Fortem" Author: Discorpor8 Genre: Angst, Songfic, Action, AU Timeframe: RotS Characters: Obi-Wan, Palpatine, Dooku, Anakin Summary: Dooku wins the lightsaber duel against the two Jedi, and reflects on his two opponents. Disclaimer: O Fortuna belongs to Carl Orff. Star Wars belongs to George Lucas. Also, if the Latin isn't exactly right, please don't yell at me. O Fortune, Like the moon you are changeable, Ever waxing and waning. I knew for a fact that I was powerful in the Force, a former Jedi Master. I knew that I could best the most skilled of swordsmen in a duel. But I also knew that even the mightiest eventually fall. Hateful life First oppresses Then soothes As fancy takes it. When Skywalker strutted onto the Invisible Hand like he ruled the Galaxy, I couldn't help but smile. The boy's arrogance when he last faced me cost him his arm. Knowing Skywalker, it was likely that he hadn't learned from his mistakes. "My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count," the boy sneered. His powers may have doubled, but his intelligence was obviously slower in growth. Pity. "Good. Twice the pride, double the fall." Poverty and power, It melts them like ice. Though I held great disdain for Skywalker, I could not deny his incredible skills as a swordsman. He moved in lockstep with my footwork, parried my every blow, and moved with a grace and fury that I hadn't seen in a long time. Indeed, the boy had potential to be something great. If he didn't let himself be so blinded by his ego. And there was his weak spot. Unlike Kenobi, who had learned from the death of Qui-Gon that flashy, crowd-pleasing moves may display one's skill, but are destined to be one's downfall in a fight, Skywalker flipped, jumped, and spun undaunted. He couldn't survive on pure luck forever. Fate, monstrous and empty, You whirling wheel You are malevolent Well-being is in vain And always fades to nothing. But then again, it was hard to contemplate cutting down such talent. Just one slash, and I could have Skywalker meet his fate. It would be so simple. Shadowed and veiled, You plague me too. Now, through the game, I bring my bare back to your villainy. I knew that if I didn't kill him, he would be eager to bask in the glory of felling the dastardly Count Dooku. He would see no point in taking me prisoner if he could finish me right then and there. In one motion, I slashed him in midair. He fell to the ground, and struggled to his knees. Blood began to seep through his tunic. I had waited so long for this moment, when the Hero With No Fear would finally fall. "Obi-Wan..." he cried out through the Force. "Please...don't. Don't kill me...I beg you," he gasped. For a moment, I saw not the reckless, fearless youth who would do the impossible just to show he could, but a vulnerable child. He stared up at me, tears forming in his eyes. Paranoia struck me for a moment. What if this was all an act to make me put down my weapon? What if the instant I showed mercy and turned off my saber, he would gather up his remaining strength and kill me? Fate is against me In health and virtue Driven on and weighted down Always enslaved. I could see Skywalker stumbling onto Coruscant, displaying my severed head for all to see. He would grin as people cheered his name. I could not let him kill me. So at this hour, Without delay, Pluck the vibrating strings. I slashed him across the chest. "Why?" He sputtered. A single tear rolled down his cheek before he slumped forward, dead. "Oh Force. Oh Force, no." I said aloud. I killed him. I killed Anakin Skywalker. I looked back. Sidious' seemingly benign features seemed harsher, angrier. "A fierce fight, Lord Tyranus." I could tell he had wanted Anakin to kill me so he could control the boy without me standing in the way of things. I had failed my Master by not throwing the fight. Somewhere far off, I heard the faint, plaintive voice of Qui-Gon. "I have failed," he said. I remembered just moments ago, when I couldn't bring myself to kill Skywalker. I had failed too. Let us mourn together, for Fate crushes the brave. END. Well, the trilogy is over! Please give any feedback! -----signature----- The Force will be with you. 	Wow, this was a very interesting turn of events I love how you described Dooku's line of thought, and how he looks at Palpatine and finds him not too happy i bet he wouldnt have been happy with this ending!
