	Title: Ever The Same Author: anakin_luver Timeframe: ROTS (AU) Note: This is a song vignette so I use lyrics from the song "Ever The Same" by Rob Thomas. Love the song to death. Disclaimer: I'm not making any money off of this. All yours George, and Rob. Ever The Same “I hate you!” “You were my Padawan, Anakin. You were my comrade. My companion...my brother. I loved you.” We were drawn from the weeds We were brave like soldiers I stare down at you and my eyes burn from the sight. I watch the flames consume you, and with that, I break. Within moments, I’m by your side and the flames are gone. “Obi-Wan. Save…save me.” You reach for me and I grasp your hand so you can’t see me shaking. You were holding to me Like a someone broken I look into your eyes and see my reflection. What did I do to you? And I couldn't tell you but I'm telling you now I rest your head on my leg and close my eyes. You don’t saying anything. You already know. Just let me hold you while you're falling apart I think of the past. The things I could of done. The things I could of said. The more memories I could have had with you. Now it's cold and we're scared And we've both been shaken You’ve grown quiet. You’re not angry anymore and I begin to worry. “Are you alright?” “I will be.” Hey, look at us Man, this doesn't need to be the end I say nothing. It’s not a time of words. My mind is no longer racing. It’s silent. And somehow, the volcanic surroundings are as well. My insides are growing quiet. I look at you and I suddenly understand how this happened. What’s left of me aches. You may need me there To carry all your weight But you're no burden I assure “Obi-Wan...forgive me.” You speak in a whisper, yet your words echo in my head. “You don’t need my forgiveness.” My voice is weak. Strained. Dying. We don’t move. I can’t bring myself to think of what we’re waiting for. I'll be there for you and you'll be there for me You begin to cough. It’s the sound of blaster fire. The sound of light cutting into flesh. The sound of so many hearts breaking. I place your head gently on the ground and lie beside you. My eyes are suddenly too heavy to keep open. Tell me everything you want me to be “I’m the one that should ask for forgiveness, Anakin.” “Anakin?” I look over at you and my breath catches in my throat. My mind is foggy. I can’t remember where I am. I reach for your metal hand. It burns me with heat, but I hardly feel it. Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down My body grows tired and it’s something I can no longer fight. I stare at the sky. Its colour resembles the flames that destroyed your body. But I destroyed you, Anakin. As I rest my head against the ground, my eyes are already closed. And my final breath escapes me. Forever with you Forever in me Ever the same

	Oh...wow... Gah, Crystal...I really wasn't expecting...this... Wonderul job I like how much of what is happening is implied. It kinda gives you the feeling of being submerged in Obi-Wan's senses and feelings. It's almost like you're looking through his eyes, which is quite the experience when well done, as it is here. And seeing as how it is done in 1st person I suppose this is the goal you had wanted to achieve – as you have. I had to read it over twice to really appreciate it. Again, the implications are wonderfully done, sort of the way you can yourself imagine as to what is going on in reality. Which makes it all though more powerful, b/c the imagination is quite a tool. smirks Tool of self-destruction when reading angst At first I was surprised at how short this was but then I suppose that was for a reason and I see clearly why. If it was longer it might have become draggy. This way it’s very nice and poignant. You kinda get a surreal feel when reading at this pace and length, especially with the chosen style, it makes you feel like the world outside of Obi/Ani has sort of just faded away into the background. Which is nice, considering that we are looking through Obi-Wan's eyes and this is probably the way he's feeling at the moment. Like nothing exists except for the two of them. My mind is no longer racing. It’s silent. And somehow, the volcanic surroundings are as well. I loved that line and the part I underlines was what really gave off the "the world fades away" feeling. 	Alley: Yep, I think you definitely read this songfic the way I wanted it to be read. I didn't want to be too descriptive, I wanted it to be exactly how Obi-Wan would feel, see, think. Again, you are right. I just stopped writing when everything was finished and the fact that it turned out to be pretty short went with the mood I think. I love that line too.
