Sola was feeling a bit ill from the heat and had retreated to her cool, dark bedchamber. Anakin was a bit relieved to only be outnumbered three to one, instead of four. The trouble with planning a wedding was twofold. One, he had no idea what such planning entailed, and two, he had no idea what he preferred.
All he wanted was to marry Padmé.
That's sweet, they get to be married right away. And that's all that really matters. It makes it more meaningful, almost, being small because it's just for them and their families--a private and intimate commitment.

Hopefully Shmi will take it upon herself to invite Obi-Wan to the wedding.
It's good that Anakin and Padme are getting the small wedding they'd hoped for. Otherwise, it could have gotten majorly out of control.
I think their mothers were relieved as well.

How cute! Sometimes I think the wedding planning can turn into a monster and forget about the whole point of the wedding!
Sorry for my delayed reply, DRL has been real hectic lately!
I can't wait for the next segment in this story! Thanks for the pm! And keep up the good work@

Hiya,
I've been following this story ever since you started posting it and have enjoyed every post. Any chance of being added to the PM update list as I never got around to asking to be put on it?

Small and simple seals the deal just as well!
Helen_Taft
Let's face it, Anakin would have been much happier with all the fame and adulation!
randomangel22
I think it was smart on Padme's part.
Jeditheskyisblue
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Gina
I think most guys could do without the actual WEDDING!
HandmaidenVeme
They've waited long enough, I guess.
FitJedi
At least there won't be any fighting over the size of the wedding.
ratna
You never know, but I don't think Shmi will think of it and Jobal probably has no clue how close Anakin came to being a Jedi.
dianethx
That's why we got married and then didn't tell anyone.
Blue_Milkshake
Yes, especially with so many strong personalities!
Kevin_Solo
Fourteen days is okay if you're going with small and simple and don't want to impress anyone.
KELIA
I've seen that same look on many masculine faces.
HCzGIRL481
Yes, quite close. Maybe the next post.
JediXManSerenaKenobi
Thanks!

Yes, and this wedding is for them and those they love, no one else.

Sure! I'd be happy to!
Chapter 22
Padmé looked at herself in the mirror, her mouth hanging open in a most undignified manner. Her mother glanced at her worriedly.
“Now you don’t have to wear it,” Jobal said as she brushed her hands along the skirt and straightened a fold of material. “I know it’s not exactly what you’d buy to marry a famous racer, but…”
“He’s not a famous racer, Mom,” Padmé murmured as she turned to look at herself from another angle. “He’s Anakin.” She met her mother’s eyes in the mirror. “And that’s better.”
Sola laughed at that, and Ryoo and Pooja giggled behind their hands. “Oh, she’s got it bad,” Sola muttered.
“Got what bad, Mommy?” Pooja asked innocently.
“Never you mind,” Sola replied primly.
“It has to do with S-E-X,” Ryoo answered shrewdly.
“Oh….” Pooja breathed. Her expression remained confused however.
Sola sighed heavily and shook her head while Padmé leaned on her mother and tried to hide her laughter. “Don’t laugh too hard,” Sola said dryly. “Just remember, one day you might have a daughter and she’ll have two older cousins who will be quite happy to fill in details that you’d rather weren’t filled in.”
Padmé’s laughter stopped abruptly.
“Now girls,” Jobal chided, though her cheeks were still pink from her own amusement. “Let’s concentrate on the issue at hand.” She stood back and studied Padmé. “I’ll need to take up the hem a bit,” she fussed. “But other than that, I think it fits you perfectly.”
“It does,” Sola admitted with a smile. “You look like a princess.”
“Aunt Padmé was a queen,” Pooja insisted.
“Yes, yes,” Sola replied absently. She met Padmé’s eyes in the mirror. “So…what’s the verdict?”
“I love it,” Padmé said softly. “I’d love to wear it, Mom. If that’s all right.”
“I’d be honored,” Jobal replied, sniffling just a bit. “Now both my girls will have worn my wedding dress.”
Pooja walked up to Padmé and slipped her hand inside her aunt’s, looking up at her with big solemn eyes. “Can’t you afford a new dress, Aunt Padmé?” The little girl leaned in close. “I’ve got some allowance saved if you need it,” she confided helpfully.
~~~~~~~~~
Anakin had escaped to his garage. He was fond of Padmé’s family, but it seemed at bit overwhelming having so many people – people that he did not know very well – filling his house. He had spent the morning discussing (arguing if the truth was known) about smashball teams with Ruwee and Darred. That had been enjoyable, especially when Cliegg had produced statistics to prove a point. Ruwee had frowned and grumbled, but he had been well and truly beaten.
His mother, who had been making a list of people to contact for the wedding, had merely rolled her eyes at all of them. There were some things that women just did not understand, Anakin thought.
He had slipped away to the garage, knowing he would find peace in tinkering with his racing pods. There was something soothing about hearing the well-tuned purr of an engine, especially when he knew it was made possible by his own efforts.
Besides, apart from the familiar and comforting sounds of a pod engine, it was quiet here. He could think.
Padmé had been sequestered with her mother and sister all morning. He had heard gales of laughter from the room they were in, but when he would have gone to investigate, his mother’s hand on his arm had stopped him. Shmi gave him a subtle shake of her head. “Let them have their time alone,” she whispered. Even Shmi had tactfully declined to join them, insisting that she had things to do.
Reluctantly, Anakin had settled back down into a chair. What were they doing in there?
Putting aside his curiosity, Anakin concentrated on getting the engine to its optimum performance. He had a few months before his next race, but the equipment had to be maintained constantly. Besides, he had an idea to make them even faster –
“I thought I’d find you here.”
Anakin suppressed a groan and turned with a welcoming smile on his face. “Hello, sir,” he said.
“Sorry to intrude on your privacy,” Ruwee answered apologetically. “I won’t be long.”
Anakin grinned at the man’s perception. “Sorry, sir, I just…” He sighed and put his greasy hands on his hips. “I’m not used to-”
“So many people,” Ruwee finished for him. “I know.” The older man laughed. “You’ll get used to us all.”
“It’ll be nice to be part of a large family,” Anakin said. “For a long time it was just Mom and me.”
“And then Cliegg married your mother,” Ruwee observed.
Anakin shrugged. “Yeah, but I was older then, and on my own pretty much.”
“What about your step-brother Owen?”
“I don’t see him all that much, but we drive our parents crazy when we do get together,” Anakin smiled. “Owen’s great,” he replied. “And you’ll meet his wife Beru tomorrow.”
“You’ll be part of a large family once you and Padmé are married,” Ruwee said softly. “You’ll have a very large fan base built in,” he added teasingly.
“My sponsors will be thrilled,” Anakin joked.
“We’ll make sure that we yell loud and clear when you’re racing,” Ruwee replied with a grin.
Anakin’s expression grew somber. He turned and placed his tool on the workbench, grabbing a rag to get off the worst of the grime. “I’m not really sure that I want Padmé to come see me race,” he finally said.
“Really?” Anakin could hear the surprise in Ruwee’s voice.
Anakin’s shoulders hunched and he heaved a sigh. Then he turned to face his future father-in-law. “It’s different, being there in person,” he said softly. “It’ll be different for her…for
me
…”
“She saw you race as a boy,” Ruwee reminded him. “Now you’re a man, with a lot more experience, I might add. You know your way around a track.”
Anakin’s lips lifted in a half-hearted smile. “I do,” he agreed with a nod. “But I worry…”
“If you’ll be able to concentrate, knowing Padmé’s right there?” Ruwee guessed.
“Yeah,” Anakin said with a sigh of relief. “You understand. I wasn’t sure if even
I
understood.”
“Hell to love a woman so much,” Ruwee said unexpectedly. “It ties you up in knots, makes you do crazy things…and then muddles your thoughts until you can barely remember your own name.”
“That about covers it,” Anakin replied dryly.
“Don’t expect it to get much better,” Ruwee warned.
“Great.”
Ruwee laughed and gave Anakin a friendly whack on the back. “Why don’t you talk to Padmé about this?” he suggested gently.
“She’ll think I’m crazy,” Anakin muttered. “Or worse, she’ll be mad.”
“Why not give it a shot?” Ruwee said.
Anakin met his eyes and then gave a jerky nod of his head. “All right, but if she gets mad at me, I’m throwing
you
under the pod and telling her it was
your
idea.”
“Fair enough.”
~~~~~~~~
Padmé sighed with relief as she sank down onto the bed. Anakin had disappeared. Shmi and Cliegg and decided to take a nap together, though Padmé wondered if that was what Cliegg had in mind, given his expression when he made the suggestion to his wife. Her mother and Sola were currently discussing dresses for Ryoo and Pooja. Her friend Cordé had already offered to bring whatever they ordered from Naboo with her. Cordé had been thrilled to know that Padmé was getting married, and had not seemed at all surprised at the identity of the groom, Padmé remembered with amusement.
She was exhausted. They only had twelve days left until the wedding and to her amusement, Anakin had insisted that they sleep separately until that day. “My brother and his wife did that,” he had confided. “And Owen said it made their wedding night special.”
“Special?” she had asked, stifling her laughter.
“Go ahead, laugh,” Anakin had said, his own lips twitching. “Besides…with your parents here, don’t you think it would be a bit…
awkward
?”
“Only if they’re in the room next to us,” Padmé had replied with a smirk.
Anakin had only groaned and shaken his head.
Now, however, Padmé found she was grateful for having the room to herself and being able to enjoy a moment of privacy. The bedroom was cool and inviting, even now in the heat of the day. Just beyond the doors waited the lovely garden that Anakin had created just for her.
Even now, she felt her stomach clench pleasantly at the memory of how they had made love in the garden.
Anakin had already given her so much. She wondered what she could possibly give him in return; in light of all he had done for her. They would have a few precious months to themselves before the racing circuit began again, and she wanted to make their time together as special as he had made her feel.
She lay down on the bed and closed her eyes, letting the sound of the wind chimes in the garden lull her. Her eyes drifted closed and her breathing grew slow and easy. Padmé hovered in that state between sleep and wakefulness.
Anakin…her almost Jedi…did he regret that missed chance…? What could she give him? Do for him? Anakin…he loved her…his lips…warm…sweet…
Padmé smiled.
I love him so much…wish there was something I could…
With a gasp, Padmé sat up and smiled, suddenly not sleepy at all.
“Of course!” she muttered to herself. “Gods, why was I so stupid!?”

With all the dark, ansgty fic about it's really lovely to read one that is full of celebration and quiet enjoyment of the simple things in life, like family. I also loved the hot little references to some not so innocent fun *whistles innocently*
Then I read this and wondered if you're planning a twist to go on top of the cliffie.
Anakin…her almost Jedi…did he regret that missed chance…? What could she give him? Do for him? Anakin…he loved her…his lips…warm…sweet… Padmé smiled. I love him so much…wish there was something I could…

Poor Anakin not be able to stand so many people in one house!
He better get used to it cause there's nothing like one big family reunion.

Great post! (Not that all the others weren't, sorry for lurking).
Pooja was adorable, and I loved the conversation between Anakin and Ruwee.
And I'm very curious to know what's on Padme's mind

Another chapter? Great!
Nice to see that Padme still has her priorities right:
“He’s not a famous racer, Mom,” Padmé murmured as she turned to look at
herself from another angle. “He’s Anakin.” She met her mother’s eyes in the
mirror. “And that’s better.”
Ahhhh!
Of course, her sister and nieces have to make their opinions known:
Sola laughed at that, and Ryoo and Pooja giggled behind their hands. “Oh,
she’s got it bad,” Sola muttered.
“Got what bad, Mommy?” Pooja asked innocently.
“Never you mind,” Sola replied primly.
“It has to do with S-E-X,” Ryoo answered shrewdly.
“Oh….” Pooja breathed. Her expression remained confused however.
I loved this intervention of Sola when Padme began to laugh at it
all:
Sola sighed heavily and shook her head while Padmé leaned on her mother and
tried to hide her laughter. “Don’t laugh too hard,” Sola said dryly. “Just
remember, one day you might have a daughter and she’ll have two older cousins
who will be quite happy to fill in details that you’d rather weren’t filled
in.”
Padmé’s laughter stopped abruptly.
Nicely written,
Vader
!
The reference to a daughter got me
thinking, though.
Will Padme and Anakin have a daughter called Leia in this time line, I wonder?
Nice that the wedding dress was her mother's, and that Sola was also married in
it!
As for Pooja's comment...
Of course, I wanted to know what the groom was doing. I
had
an idea he
would have retreated to the garage.
Even a long time ago and in a GFFA, some things seem to stay the same:
He had spent the morning discussing (arguing if the truth was known) about
smashball teams with Ruwee and Darred. That had been enjoyable, especially when
Cliegg had produced statistics to prove a point. Ruwee had frowned and grumbled,
but he had been well and truly beaten.
His mother, who had been making a list of people to contact for the wedding, had
merely rolled her eyes at all of them. There were some things that women just
did not understand, Anakin thought.
Then he's joined by his future father-in-law. I liked their conversation very much.
Nice to see Anakin admitting that he wasn't sure that he wanted Padme watching him race:
Anakin’s expression grew somber. He turned and placed his tool on the workbench,
grabbing a rag to get off the worst of the grime. “I’m not really sure that I
want Padmé to come see me race,” he finally said.
“Really?” Anakin could hear the surprise in Ruwee’s voice.
Anakin’s shoulders hunched and he heaved a sigh. Then he turned to face his
future father-in-law. “It’s different, being there in person,” he said softly.
“It’ll be different for her…for me…”
“She saw you race as a boy,” Ruwee reminded him. “Now you’re a man, with a lot
more experience, I might add. You know your way around a track.”
Anakin’s lips lifted in a half-hearted smile. “I do,” he agreed with a nod. “But
I worry…”
“If you’ll be able to concentrate, knowing Padmé’s right there?” Ruwee guessed.
“Yeah,” Anakin said with a sigh of relief. “You understand. I wasn’t sure if
even I understood.”
“Hell to love a woman so much,” Ruwee said unexpectedly. “It ties you up in
knots, makes you do crazy things…and then muddles your thoughts until you can
barely remember your own name.”
“That about covers it,” Anakin replied dryly.
“Don’t expect it to get much better,” Ruwee warned.
“Great.”
Ruwee laughed and gave Anakin a friendly whack on the back. “Why don’t you talk
to Padmé about this?” he suggested gently.
“She’ll think I’m crazy,” Anakin muttered. “Or worse, she’ll be mad.”
“Why not give it a shot?” Ruwee said.
Anakin met his eyes and then gave a jerky nod of his head. “All right, but if
she gets mad at me, I’m throwing you under the pod and telling her it was your
idea.”
“Fair enough.”
Very nice!
Then we're back to Padme. And we hear news about her friend Corde:
Her friend Cordé had already offered to bring whatever they
ordered from Naboo with her. Cordé had been thrilled to know that Padmé was
getting married, and had not seemed at all surprised at the identity of the
groom, Padmé remembered with amusement.
So she didn't get blown up? Good!
What I want to know is what kind of surprise Padme's planning for Anakin:
Anakin had already given her so much. She wondered what she could possibly give
him in return; in light of all he had done for her. They would have a few
precious months to themselves before the racing circuit began again, and she
wanted to make their time together as special as he had made her feel.
She lay down on the bed and closed her eyes, letting the sound of the wind
chimes in the garden lull her. Her eyes drifted closed and her breathing grew
slow and easy. Padmé hovered in that state between sleep and wakefulness.
Anakin…her almost Jedi…did he regret that missed chance…? What could she give
him? Do for him? Anakin…he loved her…his lips…warm…sweet… Padmé smiled. I love
him so much…wish there was something I could…
With a gasp, Padmé sat up and smiled, suddenly not sleepy at all.
“Of course!” she muttered to herself. “Gods, why was I so stupid!?”
Interesting!

Hmmm...wonder what Padme has planned exactly.
Loved the conversation between Ruwee and Anakin. Seems quite natural that Anakin would be a bit worried about having Padme there in person.
He had spent the morning discussing (arguing if the truth was known) about smashball teams with Ruwee and Darred. That had been enjoyable, especially when Cliegg had produced statistics to prove a point. Ruwee had frowned and grumbled, but he had been well and truly beaten.

Hey!

You have impeccable timing. The kids were teasing
us
about that just today.
Awwww! That is so precious.
With a gasp, Padmé sat up and smiled, suddenly not sleepy at all.
“Of course!” she muttered to herself. “Gods, why was I so stupid!?”
And you have to go leaving us with a cliffhanger again!
