It was sweet but the part I loved was the little girls talking.
Pooja walked up to Padmé and slipped her hand inside her aunt’s, looking up at her with big solemn eyes. “Can’t you afford a new dress, Aunt Padmé?” The little girl leaned in close. “I’ve got some allowance saved if you need it,” she confided helpfully.
So adorable!
Good job. I wonder what Padme has up her sleeve.

Hmmmm....what exactly does Padme have in mind?
Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't turn into a disaster.
“Can’t you afford a new dress, Aunt Padmé?” The little girl leaned in close. “I’ve got some allowance saved if you need it"
Awww...that was precious!
I loved the whole scene with Padme trying on Jobal's wedding dress
Great update

Chapter 23
Anakin was puttering in his garage, happily absorbed in his work when two hands closed over his eyes. Laughing, he grasped the hands. “Derlina?” he asked and one of the hands pinched his nose. “Ouch!”
“You deserve that,” Padmé chided as he turned around gathered her into his arms. “You know how I feel about that woman.”
“What woman?’ he murmured as his lips found the pulse in her throat. In response, the rhythm of it sped up and he found his own heart racing in time. “Are there other women in the galaxy?” he teased.
Padmé gave his arm a playful slap. “Good answer, pod jockey.”
He stood up straight and tried very hard to look offended. “Pod jockey? Is that all I am to you? Some pod jockey? An incredibly talented pod jockey, but still…”
Her lips twitched. “Of course,” she answered loftily.
Anakin leaned back against his workbench and crossed his arms over his chest. “So…I’m just a piece of meat to you?”
“A handsome piece of meat,” Padmé soothed, her eyes alight with laughter. “Doesn’t that count for something?”
He tilted his head as he studied her. “I suppose so,” he replied with a wink. “But just remember, the feeling is mutual.”
“But I’m not a pod jockey,” she protested, her lower lip protruding in a pout.
“That’s all right,” he soothed. “You have other…assets I quite enjoy.” With that, he ogled her and let his mouth hang open a bit, his tongue hanging out.
Padmé’s laughter pealed out in the garage and she quickly ran behind a pod and shook her finger at him. “You’re terrible!”
“This is my home territory,” he warned her, advancing slowly. “Are you sure you want to start this game here?” He could not help but wish that she would. He might enjoy a little game of chase with her, providing he could claim a kiss as forfeit when she lost.
She tapped one finger on her chin thoughtfully. “It’s probably not wise of me,” she admitted.
“No, not at all,” he agreed, taking another step closer. Anakin grinned, thinking about the feel of her in his arms, pressed up against him.
“But then, I’ve never been one for the safe course,” she observed.
“No, no you haven’t.” He would start by letting down her hair and watching it cascade over her shoulders.
“Then perhaps I should do the unexpected.”
“And that would be?” Then he would bury his hands in that hair as he pulled her close for a kiss and -
Before he could even finish his sentence, Padmé had launched herself from behind the pod and grabbed him in a fierce embrace. “This…” she whispered as she pulled his head down for a kiss.
Several moments later, Anakin pulled away and took her hand. “We’d better stop things there,” he cautioned.
“Spoilsport,” she muttered, idly toying with the laces at the neck of his shirt. Then her fingers slipped beneath the fabric and teased at his muscles. And one hand made the journey around his side and down…
“Besides,” he said, wrapping one hand around hers. She was going to drive him mad, he thought. “Your father has a habit of dropping in on me here.”
He laughed when her cheeks went bright with color and she hopped away as if she had come upon a scorpion. “Why didn’t you tell me?” she grumbled as she straightened her hair and smoothed her skirts.
“You didn’t ask,” he reminded her with a smirk.
Rolling her eyes, she shook her head. “I shouldn’t have to ask,” she countered. “That’s the sort of information you should offer freely.”
“Sorry,” he apologized. “I’m still getting the hang of this ‘couple’ thing.”
Laughing softly, she returned to his embrace, though this time, he noticed, her hands did not venture round to his backside. He wondered if he should feel grateful or upset. They were silent for a moment, enjoying the quiet and privacy. Both seemed to be at a premium with both of their families living under the same roof. His house was big, but it was inevitable that they would spend a lot of time together. Soon, he reminded himself, soon he would have Padmé all to himself.
“Can you believe that the wedding is the day after tomorrow?” Padmé whispered, resting her head on his chest.
“I can,” Anakin replied dryly. “Pooja and Ryoo have been giving me an hour by hour countdown,” he added. “Last night one of them snuck into my room to inform me that I would be getting married in 58. 5 hours…precisely.”
Padmé laughed. “They’ve been doing the same with me,” she admitted. “I think that Sola just taught them how to tell time recently, and they want to show off their new skill.”
“Ah,” he said, not really caring any more. He just remembered feeling very, very grateful that Padmé had not been curled up against him in his bed when he looked up to see her niece staring at him in the middle of the night. That might have proven awkward.
“I’m surprised you didn’t know she was coming,” Padmé teased. “You know, with that Force thing.”
“I only wish it was that specific,” he replied with a grin as he tilted up her chin to place a chaste kiss on her forehead.
“So you can’t read minds?” she teased.
“No, thank the goddess,” Anakin said quickly.
“Yes, that’s a very good thing,” Padmé answered with a relieved laugh.
“And what are you trying to hide?” he asked playfully, only to be surprised when he cheeks flamed red yet again.
“Nothing,” she answered quickly. Too quickly, he thought. She stood on her toes and gave him a swift, positively sisterly kiss on the cheek and was moving toward the door before he could protest. “Sola and Mom and I are running into town,” she called out over her shoulder. “Your mother and Beru and are going with us, so don’t worry!”
Anakin opened his mouth to say something but she was already out of earshot before he could decide what to say. He looked after her, a frown gathering on his face. She was up to something, he thought. Definitely up to something…
~~~~~~~~~~
The hours passed quickly in the garage. Ruwee had come down for a visit, as had become his habit. At first, Anakin had not been happy to have his small kingdom invaded but he had learned to look forward to their conversations. He was getting to know Padmé’s father quite well and, through him, coming to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the woman who would become his wife.
As he tinkered with the timing on an engine, Anakin glanced up at Ruwee. The older man had been talking about Padmé’s time in the Legislative Youth program and how it had affected her. “Why did she leave politics?” Anakin asked suddenly.
Ruwee’s expression grew troubled. “There were a lot of reasons,” he said at last. “When the time is right, she’ll share all of them with you.”
Anakin wanted to press Ruwee for answers, but something in the man’s gaze stopped him. He nodded and could sense Ruwee’s relief. “When she’s ready, she’ll tell me,” Anakin agreed.
~~~~~~~~~
“Are you sure about this?” Sola asked yet again, hissing the question under her breath.
“Absolutely,” Padmé replied, shifting uneasily on her feet. “I’ve never been more certain of anything in my life except marrying Anakin.”
Shmi put a comforting hand on Sola’s shoulder. “Your sister has good instincts,” she soothed.
“This could backfire,” Sola said fretfully.
“Well then, if it does, hopefully Anakin will know that I did what I did out of love for him,” Padmé answered serenely.
“He’ll know that,” Shmi said. “My boy knows Padmé’s heart, of that you can be sure.”
“It’ll be fine, Sola,” Jobal said, putting her arm around her daughter’s shoulders.
“All right, then,” Sola said. “I guess we’d better get this thing done.”
The women all looked at each other and suddenly broke into giggles.
“Can you imagine the look on his face?” Jobal finally gasped.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Anakin had delayed leaving the garage as long as he could. Ryoo had helped his cause when she had appeared at his side bearing a small tray with some food. “Grandpa said you might be hungry,” she offered.
“I am,” Anakin agreed as he picked up one of the three sandwiches. “And I’ve never had better service,” he added with a wink.
Ryoo giggled. “I got to bring the tray because I beat Pooja at ‘rock, paper, vibroblade’,” she said.
“And I’m the prize?” Anakin teased.
Ryoo shrugged. “That’s what Aunt Padmé thinks,” the girl said with a shy look at Anakin.
Anakin laughed. “I’m glad she thinks so.”
Now, even he could find no more excuses to remain isolated in the garage. He had heard the women arrive back just a few minutes ago, and he found himself longing to see Padmé again. He wondered if he could manage a few moments of privacy, perhaps even a quick kiss and snuggle. Anakin grinned as he wiped his hands and made his way down the short corridor to the living area.
As soon as he crossed into the room, he noticed a muted sense of tension and anticipation. The women were gathered in one corner, laughing softly and casting sly glances at each other. He frowned at them and then looked at Owen, who merely shrugged and spread his hands helplessly. Ruwee seemed to be avoiding his gaze, while Cliegg appeared amused.
Then, as if by unspoken agreement, the women parted and Anakin saw a figure standing there. At first, he could not believe what he was seeing.
He blinked.
The figure remained.
Surprised at the emotions that surged up within him, Anakin could only stare at the man.
“Obi-Wan?”
Hmm, lovely visual. As was the curled up together in bed treat *g*. I'm continuing to be enthralled by this feel-good fic (at least feel-good so far, I'm not banking on anything, lol). It's wonderful to read something warm, sweet and mellow for a change. You do heart-warming romance so well. *bows* I can't wait for the wedding--will Obi-Wan be best man?
Yeah! I'm glad Obi-Wan was the surprise!
I'm sure its been a long time since they've seen each other.
I wish Anakin would chase me around in the garage like with Padme.
Great post and thanks for the PM!
At last a nice 'normal' sort of A/P story. I'm so sick of the angsty stuff, (although I do like it, once in a while) yet this shows the normal family goings on prior to a wedding and thru it all the great love shared intermixed with Anakin's great force abilities, which I do long to see more. He's supposedly so powerful, yet untrained here, it would be welcome to see just how strong he truly is. Hint, hint! Really loving this...
