Tatooine_Ghost Thanks! dtdang2 I patterned their relationship after my own with my mother, and my kids’ relationship with me. But then added a Skywalker flavor to it. jedi_princess18 That’s been rewarding, picturing them together. Chapter 6 Padmé stared into her mirror, noting the heightened color in her cheeks, the sparkle in her brown eyes. “You’re being silly,” she chided herself. “It’s just two old friends – getting together to relive old times.” Of course, they had “relived” old times for hours and hours last night. And the kisses they shared had seemed much more than friendly. She blushed to remember how she had responded to his touch. Whatever Anakin Skywalker had been doing besides racing, he had taken the time to learn a thing or two about women and what they liked. Strangely, the thought caused a jealous pang. She had no right to be jealous of Anakin, no claim on him whatsoever. He was young and handsome, not to mention both rich and famous. It would have been beyond belief that he would have been alone all these years. He must have women throwing themselves at him wherever he went, and she laughed at the image of Anakin tripping over them. Literally. She had not been surprised when Anakin’s name had shown up in the racing circuits, and not for any amount of credits would she admit that she had followed his career with interest. He had just been a boy when she last knew him, and it had been fascination for the boy who had helped save her planet that had sparked her interest in the beginning. Then the boy began to grow up. His holo usually accompanied any stories about him and there were a lot of stories written about the young racing star with holovid star looks and such an interesting past. Having saved a planet at the age of nine years, it was only natural that the media took a keen interest in Skywalker. That interest had not waned over the years. She had known what he looked like when she decided to attend the party; she should have been prepared. Instead, the instant she had touched his arm she had felt…something. It had sparked and sizzled between them before he even spoke. Anakin Skywalker had grown up to be a very handsome man, but whatever it was that drew her to him had little to do with his appearance. Or at least, that was only one small part of it. It was true that she had laughed at his boyhood promise to marry her. The japor snippet had been tucked away in a box and forgotten for the most part. Every now and then, when she reached in to get another piece of jewelry, her fingers would brush over it and she would remember the boy fondly. She had held great affection for the child Anakin, a feeling that had been magnified by her gratitude for what he had done for her people. As the years passed, and her life of public service became a more distant memory, one that she was happy to put behind her, she had turned her time and attention to building a new life – a private life. But it had been just about that time that Anakin had burst into the racing world. Her brother-in-law Darred had found the connection first. “Do you suppose it’s the same Anakin Skywalker?” he had asked, thrusting an article into her face. “That boy that blew up the Federation ship?” Bemused, Padmé had read the article from start to finish. “Of course it is,” she answered, staring at the face of a young teenaged Anakin. She could see the little boy she had known in the teenager’s fine features. “He raced before…on Tatooine…” And he had rescued her in doing so. He had risked his life to save hers. It was a debt she was not likely to forget. That had been the moment that she had started following his career. Alone, she had watched him race, her fingers clenched until they ached. It seemed to her that she did not breathe until he was safely over the finish line. Over the years, she had found herself getting more and more caught up in Anakin’s exploits, though that was a secret she guarded carefully. When she heard he was coming to Naboo she had told no one of her plans to try and meet him. Worried that he might have forgotten her, she had practiced what she would say over and over again. Then she had seen him and every coherent thought had left her head. Eleven years and seven months… He had known how long it had been since they had said farewell. The fact that he had known had made her heart beat a little faster. All right, a lot faster. Padmé got up with a sigh, looking down at her close-fitting leggings and simple tunic and wondering if she was dressed too casually for the occasion. “It’s just a picnic,” she murmured, running her hands down the leggings once more. With uncharacteristic restlessness, she paced her small bedroom. She felt uncertain and out of sorts. Meeting Anakin again had pushed her off balance. Up until the moment she had looked into his impossibly blue eyes, she had been quite happy and content with her life. Teaching was rewarding, and she threw herself into it with all the enthusiasm she had given politics. Going to that party to meet Anakin had been a guilty little indulgence. She had merely wanted to see if he would remember her as well as she remembered him. Really? a little voice asked. Are you sure that’s really all you hoped for? Ruthlessly she quelled that voice. Then Anakin had confessed that he still had feelings for her, and it wasn’t a boy who said the words this time. Anakin was a man and she was attracted to him, incredibly and passionately attracted. Last night had proven that there was something between them, something almost wild. Whatever happened, meeting Anakin again had changed her life. Even if he left her tomorrow and she never saw him after that day, something inside of her had shifted upon meeting him again, and she would never be the same woman. The door chimed and Padmé found that she was holding her breath. When the door opened Anakin was standing there in black leather pants that hugged the muscles of his legs and a casual white shirt left open at the chest just enough to tantalize her already overactive imagination. “Hello,” she said casually, hoping he did not detect the waywardness of her thoughts. “Ready for a picnic?” he asked, holding up a basket. “Let’s go,” she said, closing the door behind her. He handled the speeder with all of the assurance of a man who races for his living and it was no time at all before they came to a stop at the edge of a meadow she knew quite well. “This is one of my favorite places!” she exclaimed in surprise. She turned to give him a suspicious look but he merely smiled at her innocently. He carried the basket and she carried the blanket and it was not long before she found what she considered the perfect spot. In the distance they could see the waterfalls. Carefully, Anakin spread the blanket and then plopped down on it. With a groan he fell back and sprawled, taking up most of the space on the blanket. “Was the basket heavy?” she teased. Anakin looked up at her, squinting in the bright sunshine. “I didn’t sleep well,” he said softly. His tone left little doubt as to why he had not slept well and she felt her heart thudding in response. “Oh…” she said, wondering if she should admit that sleep had proved elusive for her as well. “Are you hungry?” It was such an obvious attempt to change the subject that he laughed. “I’m always hungry,” he confessed. But there was something in his eyes that told her it was not just food he craved. “Here, have some fruit,” she said pointedly as she pushed it into his hand. Anakin grinned at her, completely unrepentant and took a big bite out of the shuura fruit. “Tasty,” he said around a mouthful, the juice dripping down his chin and then he winked at her audaciously. Padmé could not help but follow the trail of sweet juice and wondered what he would do if she leaned over and licked it away from his chin. Her gaze flickered up to Anakin’s eyes and she saw an answering hunger in those blue depths. Then he looked away and stared out at the waterfalls. 	Well, here I go again - melting into a big pile of mushy goo. I can't seem to help it! There's just something about these two that I adore - and with the way you write them, I'm utterly defenseless! What a sweet chapter. I love seeing Padme like this - all unsettled and ruffled. It's perfect and so unlike her AotC character (with the exception of a few moments). It's really given me hope that maybe she and Anakin will get their happy ending this time. Maybe. Yes, RotS made me paranoid, why do you ask? Whew! What chemistry! Is it just me or it hot in here? This is very.... interesting. That they are both feeling the pull toward each other. For some reason, though, I thought it was sad that Padme had given up politics. It was something that seemed to be in her blood in the movies.
