Thanks everyone. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply here. It's just been work, and school, and life ... lots of life.
The ever-present of the Living Force.
But I need time to deal with the coherence of the narrative as I write it down. I hope I didn't disappoint. Have a good night everyone.

RE: I've Had It (an Anakin Skywalker AU)
Great to see this new update, which was well worth waiting for!
Interesting Anakin/Obi-Wan interaction here:
Obi-Wan almost wanted to snarl at the younger man. So the former Knight's wife had kissed him on the cheek. It was a friendly gesture. One that did make him somewhat uncomfortable, it was true, but he understood the place from where it was coming from. It was gratitude, though Obi-Wan knew he'd done nothing to bring his former Apprentice to the point where he was now -- conscious. Even Anakin knew where it was coming from, but the young man still taunted him over it.
The Jedi Master didn't know whether to throttle him, or smile at the return of the usual banter between them. After everything that happened ... Anakin laughed until Obi-Wan spoke again.
|
|
"Obi-Wan, come on. Have a heart -- they're making eat the nutrient cubes. The red nutrient cubes."
"Well, at least they're not as red as my face, huh?"
"Oh come on, Obi-Wan! You've had the red nutrient cubes too. Don't you remember? They're gross," Anakin made a face that was very reminiscent of his nine year old Padawan self that made Obi-Wan chortle again.
"Oh all right. Only because I remember how bad they truly were. Although it could be worse. Master Yoda could be cooking for you."
Both made equally disgusted faces and laughed at each other.
Good stuff!
Then things get far, far more serious:
"Anakin, what do you mean?"
The former Knight sighed, "As someone I knew once asked me -- someone I thought I knew -- have you ever heard of Darth Plagueis the Wise?"
"... no," Obi-Wan looked pensive, "Beyond information about Darth Bane and his Apprentice, we don't have anything."
"Plagueis was Palpatine's Sith Master," Anakin continued, "He experimented with manipulating midichlorians to extend life, to preserve it ... Palpatine offered to share that knowledge with me to prevent my vision of Padme dying at childbirth."
"Anakin, I'm so ..."
Anakion looked up at him directly, "He also knew how to create life."
Obi-Wan's words died away. Anakin stared at the wall, and his jaw was clenched. His organic hand had wrapped itself into a shaking fist. There was a deep anger emanating from him, anger mixed with a layer of deeper shame.
"He created me, Obi-Wan," Anakin's voice shook, "Plagueis used the Force to create me."
So he knows!
Poor Anakin, to find that he was the result of a lab experiment!
I've always wondered what it would be like for Anakin to find out about his origins, and what others would think; so I liked what followed very much!
We have Obi-Wan's reaction:
Obi-Wan's face did not change expression. The shock was just too powerful. Could the Sith truly be capable of this? It was true. In the ancient past, they had engineered monstrosities and living weapons to fight in their wars. Once, there was even a legend that they had made sentient life forms. But a living fully developed human being? A powerful Force-sensitive? The Chosen One?
Anakin?
I liked the conversation between him and Anakin about the implications of the discovery:
The former Knight sighed, "I was so close to turning to the Dark to save my wife and children. I would have done anything. I'm still not sure why I didn't ... I mean it's still possible she might anyway," he shook his head, "but I couldn't do it. I knew I was being used, but I had no idea how far it went. But I was also made by the Force. And I did what I had to do. I did what I was made to do. It's funny, when you think about it. In that way, the clones and I are not that different. Neither of us were created naturally, and we did what we were made to do."
"... that might be true," Obi-Wan replied after a time, "You did have a mother."
"Yes," Anakin's face softened, "And now, they are being punished for having neither -- for being made by Sith to do something they have no control over."
"The Senate is still fighting over that, Anakin."
"And what are the Jedi's stance on the matter?"
"The Council is against the taking of life, but many elements on the Senate do not trust us after failing to find ..."
"To find the Sith Lord right in front of us," Anakin shook his head slightly, as though already knowing the answer even before this moment,
I can certainly see Anakin identifying with the clones in this situation, and therefore worrying about what will happen to them. Well written,
darth_treyvah
!
Then the final, dramatic bit:
"Obi-Wan. There are some more things I have to tell you before the senior Masters come in. And my request. If you're willing to hear it."
"Of course I am, Anakin."
"It won't be easy to hear."
"I am willing."
"I know, Obi-Wan," Anakin smiled up at him, "but this will be hard to hear. And it will be hard to do. For all of us."
And so, Anakin told Obi-Wan the rest of what he needed to say. Obi-Wan turned pale.
What are those things, I wonder?

I agree. It was very evil for you to leave us hanging again. And I think I noticed something. You've more or less set it up, so that if the Senate feel justified in killing the Clones because they were created by the Sith to do Evil, then they must do the same thing to their great Hero Without Fear, because he was created by the Sith for the same reason. Ani and the Clones are in pretty much the same position. And I can't wait to see the Council's reaction to learning that their Chosen One was in fact created by their greatest enemy. Oh boy. Don't leave us hanging too long.

Yes I wonder what Anakin told Obi-wan. Poor Anakin though to know you were made to kill. I do feel bad for the clones they can't help how they came to be either.

WOAH.
Incredible, darth_treyvah! I'm so glad I stumbled across this! This story is really making me think!
WOAH.
Anakin looked up at him directly, "He also knew how to create life."
Brilliant, haunting stuff! You are so talented!
p.s - would it be all right if I were added to the PM list?
I don't want to miss this!

Hey everyone.
I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a while. A lot has happened to me during this time away. For starters, I've finished my Undergrad of University, and I'm also moving out on my own soon -- onto residence anyway. I have also been working full-time 9-5 and getting more out of my house. I know that I mostly just write here, and I don't say much about myself, but I really appreciated the fact that you liked my stories so much.
Also, I apologize about not keeping a PM list. The fact is: I do not know how to keep one. I can't mass PM people due to the rules of the Message Board, which really makes it hard for me to constantly update everyone. The fact is, I don't have as much time as I used to, and I want to spend as much time as possible writing and perhaps even responding to comments here. So unless I find another way to PM everyone, I just can't do it. I also wondered if I had been away from this story for too long to do anything with it. I've been working on some of my own stuff these days, and it takes what little of my time I have left. I've left this for a while.
Flipside82
, I mention you because of your last post here. I really hope that your surgery went well and that you're still on here. I'm going to do some writing now, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you won't be disappointed.
Sincerely,
darth_treyvah

Obi-Wan Kenobi waited in the massive Chamber. The remaining other Councilors took their seats, including Mace Windu who sat next to Anakin Skywalker's former Master.
"I understand that Anakin wants to debrief us on the situation," Mace murmured, "but --"
"It was part of his request, Mace," Obi-Wan felt tired, "He wants everyone to know what is going on. Not just our main body."
The Jedi Council assembled in The Room of a Thousand Fountains, surrounded by throngs of their fellow Jedi. Masters, Knights, Padawans, and even Younglings sat or stood watching the High Council meeting. Some of them were quiet and contemplative, while others chatted amongst themselves. Despite the calm that The Room generally elicited from those who came to it, there was a low undercurrent of rumbling among all the assembled beings here.
Everyone here had sensed something momentous occur in the Force during this period of time. The sheer amount of curiosity in the air was almost tangible.
"But the Holo Crews," Mace Windu actually winced.
Obi-Wan sympathized. Among the Jedi were hovering media droids and many different kinds of reporters. Across the Galaxy the HoloNet was teeming with the frenetic energies that now existed in a place so usually serene.
"Our liaisons with the Senate and the Chancellor's office has kept the worst of the gadflies away. This will be an official statement."
"The Republic officials will be watching these proceedings very closely," Mace pondered the mass of people around their space, "I sense ... a greater shatterpoint here. Many things have already occurred, and something more is about to. I can feel it," he sighed, "It is right for the rest of the Jedi to be present."
"And the galaxy deserves the right to know what is transpiring here," Obi-Wan stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"It was an unanimous vote. With some trepidation."
"Trepidation always happens in the face of change."
Neither Councilor said more as Anakin and Padme came to the front of innermost layer of the assembled circle of beings. Reporters clamored towards them, kept back only by Temple guards. Even the other Jedi looked in awe at the sight of Anakin Skywalker holding a very pregnant Senator Amidala's hand what was their public sanctum.
Mace Windu actually groaned, "The public will have a field day with this sight. A Jedi and a Senator secretly married. And pregnant with the children of the Chosen One."
"The stuff of tabloids," Obi-Wan actually smirked, "Besides, the public already
knows
about those two. Or at least they have suspected for a long time since Anakin's communion with the Force. And remember, she is now a
former
Senator. The media crews are still reeling from Padme stepping down, even now."
"I'm not entirely surprised, considering. She must have known about the conflict of interest between the both of our institutions," Mace Windu's brow furrowed, "right when the Senate needed her so much."
"Her family needs her more now, Mace. It needs both of them."
Mace Windu turned and quirked an eyebrow at Obi-Wan. The other Master gave him a level look in return.
"I'm sorry, Obi-Wan."
Obi-Wan was quiet for a few moments, "No. I knew Anakin would not change his mind. I thought that made, after his communion, he would ..." he shook his head, "Well, you know what they say, Mace. Great sentiment is the first sign of old age."
As they spoke, Anakin left Padme in the seat closest to the front. It took a while for the two to let go of each other's hands. But Anakin seemed to say something to her. And Padme nodded slowly. A very calm, but determined look flowed across the young man's face. As Obi-Wan watched, it was a lot like the expression his former Padawan would get right before a battle. But there was less fierceness in this countenance. Less anger and a lot more surety. The feeling that radiated off of Anakin made Obi-Wan both proud -- and at the same time very sad.
"Now in session, this audience is."
Yoda's presence was like a gentle, but firm hand on the shoulder of the noise and ambiance in the room. Everyone became quiet. Everyone watched as Anakin approached the Jedi Council. He looked at each of them in the eye. And smiled. Obi-Wan smiled back at Anakin through his beard. There was an understanding between them in that glance.
This was the second part of the request that Anakin asked Obi-Wan to grant him. Although Anakin was once a Jedi Knight, and even a member of the Jedi Council, he had given up his Knighthood and hence his right to address the Council. They both knew, however, that this was a formality. The Council still recognized Anakin Skywalker as the Chosen One and the slayer of the Sith. Yet Anakin's request showed a respect to etiquette and face that belied his own actions and sentiment over the years. Padme sat with Bant and the other Healers. Her children would be due anytime now. Depa Billaba sat next to her. Padme put her hand in the wan Chalactan woman's fingers. Depa smiled. It was the former Jedi Master's first real smile ever since her reawakening.
"A request for audience, the Council has accepted Anakin Skywalker," Yoda gravely intoned.
"Thank you, Grand Master," Anakin turned to the other Masters, "Councilors," he looked at the throng around him, "my fellow Jedi brethren."
There was a great expectancy in the great hall.
"To become a Jedi Knight," Anakin began, "there are many Trials that you have to pass. For me, the hardest has been the Trial of the Spirit," he turned to everyone in the room, "It is the crucible, you see. It is the point where you develop not as a warrior or a thinker, but as a fully sentient being. It's a choice, really. Between doing what is easy, and what needs to be done. It is all the difference between the Light and the Dark."
He smiled, "I'm sorry. I don't usually philosophize. I leave that to thinkers like my former Master on the Council. But I've been forced to think, because I'd been forced to act. And I've had to see things in a whole new light. I've always been a warrior. I fight. I fight for what I believe in, and the people I believe in. To me, the Jedi Order has been about protecting these people, and the ideals that they live for. But the fact of the matter is, when it all comes down to it, the Order has fallen short on what it has, and should stand for."
There was a brief, stunned silence. Obi-Wan had been expecting a comment of this sort. He'd heard it much more strongly worded in private, before Anakin went into a coma. Even the Council had heard other Jedi say something like this before. Jedi like Count Dooku. And right now, Anakin was speaking with an eloquence that would have almost put the former Jedi to shame.
"We are a part of the galaxy," Anakin continued, "The Order guards it, and guards it proactively. But we have been too far apart from it for too long. It is true. A Sith Lord was in control of the Republic. He used us. All of us. And we, as Jedi Guardians failed in our duty because, in the end, we were too separate from the galaxy to see what was truly happening to it. But the reason for this is not due to a lack of skill or sense of duty.
"The basic tenets of the Jedi Order tell us that the Force connects us all. All of us are connected by spirit. Through our connections, we are stronger. It was through my connection with my wife, and my unborn children, with my brethren that helped me make a choice in the Chancellor's Office. It was not an easy choice. It was my
real
Trial of the Spirit. The fact of the matter is that I could have gone along with Palpatine's plans. I could have believed his lies. All for the sake of convenience. And power. He betrayed us all. There is no sugar-coating that. But we betrayed ourselves too. We blinded ourselves with the one thing the Order vowed never to embrace. Fear."
Anakin sighed, "Master Yoda always told us that fear is a path to the Dark Side. And I have been afraid. It might seem weird that I of all people was afraid through this entire War. But I was. I was afraid of losing the people I loved to slaughter. Of seeing this beautiful life around us being destroyed. I was taught that fear was something avoid. But I realize now that it is something to accept and move past. That's something both the Order and the Republic needs to consider. I know I'm also talking to billions of you out there, citizens who've lost their homes and loved ones. And a lot of this probably doesn't make much sense, or you feel that it doesn't relate to you. I can't help that. I am a product of where I came from.
"As are the clones."
Anakin's eyes became fierce, "The truth of the matter is that even as we have been talking, I have ordered every clone battalion to leave the worlds of the Galactic Republic."
Mace Windu's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. The assembly's quiet blazed into an uproar of voices. Obi-Wan looked at his erstwhile Apprentice in complete and utter shock.
"Due to the former Chancellor's manipulations, these beings were created to die in the Wars that he manipulated. Just like he manipulated us all. In my stay here, at the Temple, I have figured out how to neutralize the subliminal coding in their minds. There is only one order I have given them. And that is to leave to the Outer Rim where I will be joining them shortly."
"Obi-Wan," Mace hissed, "did you ..."
"No, I had no ... Cody," and then it occurred to the Jedi Master. The last of Anakin's request to him was to get him in touch with Cody. And then the Jedi Master put it together. Palpatine created the clones to follow him. But now that he was gone, the codes would pass on to the next person in the chain of command, or the Sith Lord's potential heir.
Anakin.
It seemed so elementary to Obi-Wan now. Cody relayed the orders to the other commanders. And this meeting ...
"I'm afraid that this meeting was somewhat of a distraction -- to let the soldiers go. I assure you, they mean no harm. Many have returned to Mandalore to live out their lives with the people of their bloodline. But they and many more still vow to protect this galaxy. They have fought and suffered just as much as anyone else. They are not separate. And I will not sit back, and let them be slaughtered like animals. No," Anakin amended, "
We
will not let them.
"The Jedi Order has eliminated connections with family in order to prevent passion and the potential of creating more Sith like Palpatine and his minions. But this does a disservice to us -- as a galactic society, an Order of protectors, and as sentient beings. Long ago, the Jedi remembered what it was like to feel, and live. To be
alive.
To feel the positive aspects of passion without anger and hatred. To deal with these negative traits as any sentient being does. They knew how to fight. And how to love.
"Right now, the Order cannot serve the galaxy at its full capacity. It is a stunted thing. Learned and strong, but limited. Our numbers have always been few, and the Wars have cut us down even further. We need each other. We are not separate from the galaxy. We are all the same. We are all connected. And as such, I voluntarily renounce my membership in the old Order and announce the creation ...
of a new Jedi Order
."
At this, Anakin's Force aura blazed throughout the entire Hall. Every Force-sensitive there felt the sheer power of the statement hit them. No one said anything.
"Any who wish to join us -- be they from the Temple or beyond it, of any age or creed may do so. Those who wish to stay here are free to. We are still growing. Still changing, and we hope that one day there will be connection with all of us. But this is our only viable future now. I am glad to have learned what I could here. But we have another destiny now. Padme Amidala Skywalker will serve as our Liaison with the Senate and the Old Order," the woman stood up proudly, "In time, you will all know more. Right now, you know as much as I do," Anakin almost shrugged his shoulders, "I never planned this. But now, I can only do what is necessary. All I hope is that you can trust me."
Anakin bowed to the Council, and to the assembled beings around him. Then he walked to Padme and kissed softly. Chastely. Somehow, through Anakin's power or sheer aura, the two walked out of the mass of people completely unmolested.
Then, everything exploded into chaos.
As the Temple guards tried to regain order, the Jedi Council watched Anakin leave -- totally flabbergasted over what had just occurred.
"That," Mace said after a while, "that was ... quite some shatterpoint."
Obi-Wan didn't reply. He just stared. Yoda watched the young Jedi and his wife leave. There was no surprise on his ancient face. There was no expression written there at all.
"Anakin," Obi-Wan finally whispered within the din of voices, "what are you doing?"

WOWSA! Padme had to have written that bold address, cause we all know Anakin ain't that eloquent with words. He's more of a slash first, ask questions later kinda guy! Anyway, POWERFUL update, and a long awaited one as well. Hopefully there will be more coming in the not so distant future, as this is one heckofa story and one in which I look forward to reading more of. Hint, here!
