	Title: The Love of a Prince Author: Lady_Jade Summary: A huge AU story centered around Anakin and Padme. Anakin is Prince of Naboo, but is also a Jedi, while Padme is training to become a Handmaiden. Both must figure out how to balance duty and love...while dealing with a very complicated romance Disclaimer: Sadly...none of this is mine. Star Wars is still the property of George Lucas A/N: Ok, so in honor of the fact that this post will mark my 1,000 post...I have decided to start putting up my latest story. However, considering that the main part of the story is still mostly in my head and not on paper, I decided to put up the prologue, entitled Miracle, first. This post, and the ones following it, will go into some detail about Anakin's early childhood as well as how he became "enrolled" in the Jedi Order. However, once I have everything ready for the real story line, I shall put it up here as well. Does that make sense? I hope so. Also, many huge thanks must go out to my wonderful beta VaderLVR64!!! Thanks to her comments, I finally decided to post this thing, which has been in the works for over 3 years. With that said....I hope you like it! _____________________________________________________________________________________ Miracle The news was so unexpected that the young woman felt like she was going to faint. “I’m what?” she whispered softly. “You’re pregnant Your Majesty,” the Healer repeated with a smile. “You’re about two months along give or take a week or two.” Marianna Lars, newly crowned Queen of Naboo, fought to keep her emotions under control. This couldn’t be happening! She would have thought it a very bad joke if the test results hadn’t been right in front of her. “This is just so…unexpected,” she managed to say. The healer nodded in understanding. “If it makes you feel better, the same thing happened with my first-born. My husband and I hadn’t planned for it to happen so soon after our marriage, but it didn’t lessen our joy over the fact that we were going to be parents,” she explained. Marianna felt her breath catch in her throat at the Healer’s words. What was she supposed to tell her husband?! They had only been married for six months and they hadn’t… Spirits help me, she silently prayed. “Aldonza, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't say anything about this to any of the other Healers. I need to figure out how I’m going to tell my Lord about this, and I would rather he heard it from me, than from someone else by mistake.” “My lips are sealed Your Majesty. Go and tell King Yormel the good news; I’ll contact you later so we can set up some follow-up exams.” Marianna all but ran from the medical ward, thoughts racing frantically through her head. Her marriage to the King of Naboo had been an arranged one, brought about by his parents and her mother and step-father, the King and Queen of Alderaan. And though they had only been married for half a year, she knew she was on her way to loving him. But because of their arranged marriage, they had both agreed to wait at least a year before trying to have children. They both had wanted time to get to know each other, and Yormel had not wanted her to feel pressured about producing an heir. And that was why she was desperately asking the Spirits how she could possibly be pregnant when she was still a virgin. Her frantic thoughts were brought to a halt as she realized she had reached the library, which was where Yormel usually meet with his council of advisors. Straightening her shoulders and taking a deep breath, she opened the door and stepped inside, turning to quietly close the door behind her. As soon as she had done so, she found that the meeting was just ending. She stopped briefly to greet and talk to some of the people that she knew. She found out that Duke De’mount had recently taken a wife, Countess Jade and her husband were expecting a child of their own, and Lady Azel informed her that Lady Naberrie had just given birth to a baby girl whom they had named Sola. Eventually everyone left and the two rulers of Naboo were left alone. “Shmi, what’s wrong? You’re pale; did something happen when you went to the healers?” Yormel asked quickly when he noticed the state his wife was in. Shmi Marianna Skywalker-Lars lowered herself into a chair across from her husband. “Cliegg, you might want to sit down for this. I have a lot of things to explain, and I don’t understand half of them myself.” Cliegg Yormel Lars did as his wife had suggested, suddenly fearing the worst. For the past few weeks Shmi hadn’t been feeling well; she had been having dizzy spells, and had been having trouble keeping food down. They had dismissed it as the flu, but when she didn’t seem to improve he had advised her to see a healer. And now here she was telling him to prepare himself for whatever news she was about to deliver. Needless to say, it did not put him at ease. “What is it Shmi? What’s wrong?” Shmi took another deep breath to calm her nerves. “I don’t know how this happened, and I really don’t know how to tell you this but…the Healer said that I’m…pregnant.” “What?!” Despite her best efforts, tears began to form in Shmi’s brown eyes, blurring her vision so badly she could no longer see Cliegg’s face. “Cliegg I swear that I have been faithful to you! But I have no explanation of how this can be happening!” With that Shmi broke down in tears, burying her face in her hands. What happened next shocked Shmi so much that she stopped crying. Cliegg got out of his chair and pulled his wife into his arms, rubbing her back and whispering words of comfort as they sank to the floor. “I believe you Shmi. I believe you.” “Wh-What do you mean?” Shmi asked, her voice shaky. Cliegg sighed, a look of regret on his face. “I should have told you sooner; maybe then you would have been prepared for this.” “What are you talking about?” “Well…I sort of knew that something like this was going to happen,” Cliegg said slowly. “What do you mean you knew this would happen?” Shim asked, all traces of her tears gone. “When I came of age, a prophecy was made by a Seer from the Lake Country…” The celebration ball for the Crowning of King Yormel was in full swing. The Grand Ball Room was richly decorated in golds and silvers, and nobles from all over Naboo were gathered to honor their new King. The guest of honor though was trying to avoid being seen, and so had hidden out on one of the balconies leading off of the ball room. He had wanted a quiet moment to himself before he had to go back inside and face his people. But unfortunately, he wasn’t going to get his wish. “Your Majesty?” a guard asked, having located the wayward king. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but Lady Errian wishes to speak with you. She said it was important.” Cliegg let out a sigh of frustration, but followed the guard to one of the private audience chambers nonetheless. When Cliegg entered the room, the lone figure threw back her hooded cloak to reveal a young face framed by light brown hair. Piercing blue eyes met those of her King before she curtsied in greeting. “Your Majesty,” she said in a willowy voice. “Lady Errian,” Cliegg said, also bowing in greeting. “What news do you bring?” “I am sorry to interrupt your celebrations milord, but I felt it was important,” Errian explained, avoiding the question for the moment. “That’s all right,” Cliegg assured her. “Though I do have a pretty good idea as to why you are here.” Errian smiled. “His Majesty remembers the history of my family.” Her expression grew serious. “But you are right; just as my mother made a prophecy about the future of your father, so have I made one about yours.” Cliegg fought to contain his nervousness, but knew he had to hear whatever it was that Errian was going to tell him. “I’m ready to hear it.” “But will you be ready for what is to come?” the Seer asked. She took a deep breath, and suddenly her eyes turned silver as she began recounting the prophecy. “In one year’s time you will take a wife who will be all that you have hoped for. Do not be fooled by her quiet nature, for she will be strong of will, but also soft and pure of heart. Soon after your marriage, the two of you will be blessed by a child. However, the child will be fathered not by any man, but by Power. He will become a member of the Order, which will cause you to lose him for many years. But when he finally returns home, he will be the one with the knowledge and strength to defeat the Darkness.” As Cliegg finished telling his story, Shmi had even more questions swirling through her head. “So what does it all mean?” she finally asked. “I don’t really know,” Cliegg said as he released Shim from his embrace. They both got up off the floor and settled next to each other on a sofa. “But it does explain your pregnancy…in a way.” Shmi placed a hand over her stomach as she felt tears threatening to spill over again. “What are we going to do?” Cliegg smoothed her curly brown hair away from her face and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I don’t know,” he admitted honestly. “But we’ll get through this…together.” -----signature----- "Do or do not. 	Hey everyone!!! Thanks so much for reading this; I'm so glad you're all enjoying it, and glad to know that you like the twist I've added in. And not to worry, I've put you all on my PM list. Ok, so here is the next part of the prologue....I hope you like it! Miracle - Chapter 2 The following months saw Shmi and Cliegg growing ever closer. The pregnancy seemed to be the thing that allowed them to finally open up to one another. Every day they learned something new about the other person, and by the time Shmi reached her third trimester it was as if they had known each other since childhood. But for Shmi, the defining moment came about a month after she had told Cliegg she was pregnant. He hadn’t been around much, and despite his assurances that nothing was wrong, she couldn’t help but worry. Had he changed his mind? Did he not want this baby? She soon came to realize though that she had been worried about nothing. Cliegg had come to her after lunch one day, saying that he needed to show her something. She was a little puzzled when he brought her to a room that was two doors down from their own. But when he threw open the doors, she had to fight back the tears that threatened to fall. The room was a small one, and when Shmi had first moved into the palace she hadn’t been sure what to do with it. But now Cliegg had taken care of that. In the middle of the room sat a crib overflowing with blankets and stuffed animals. To the right of it was a rocking chair that had baby clothes folded on the seat. To the left of the crib was a changing table, outfitted with all the necessities. And stacked in the corners were cans of paint, waiting to be opened and used. “Cliegg…you did all this?” Shmi asked in disbelief. Cliegg grinned as he brought her fully into the room. “I did. The rocking chair has been in my family ever since my great-grandfather was born. The changing table I had brought in from Alderaan. And…well, I made the crib.” “You made this?” Shmi repeated, as she ran her hands over the smooth wood. She could now see that on the bars of the crib he had carved animals that were native to Naboo, as well as symbols for peace, serenity, and love. She was a bit shocked, having not known he had an interest in carpentry. “I just wanted to make something special for the baby,” he said sheepishly. It was at that moment that Shmi realized she loved Cliegg. She loved him with all of her heart, and then some. Months later, that feeling was even stronger. They had spent weeks getting the room ready, each enjoying the time they spent together. All in all, things were looking up for the happy couple. At the present moment, however, all happy thoughts were gone from Shmi’s mind. Instead, she was more focused on trying to make the pain go away. “Breathe, Shmi, just breathe,” Cliegg advised, trying to soothe his wife. “I’ve been breathing for the past three hours and it hasn’t helped any!” Shmi shot back irritably. Cliegg only smiled down at her, proud that she was being strong…even though she was getting a bit testy. But he couldn’t really blame her. Being in labor for five hours, and having to try and push for the past hour and a half could make even the most peaceful woman crack. “Your child is being extremely difficult you know,” Shmi said, tightening her grip on Cliegg’s hand as another contraction swept over her. “Oh, so it’s my child now is it?” Cliegg asked teasingly. “Of course. Only a child of yours would be this stubborn and take so long,” Shmi said, a spark of humor fighting its way back into her eyes. Cliegg leaned down and brushed a kiss on her forehead. “Yes, but you’re doing beautifully my dear. Is she not Aldonza?” he asked the healer at the end of the birthing bed. “Indeed she is. And with just a few more pushes, you two will be parents. So on the next contraction, I need you to push Your Majesty. I know you’re probably tired, but it’ll be over soon.” And so as soon as Shmi felt the start of the next contraction, she gripped Cliegg’s hand tighter and pushed as hard as she could. This was the pattern they followed for the next three contractions before Shmi collapsed back on the bed. “That was perfect,” Aldonza told her. “I can see the head! So just one or two more pushes should do it.” Shmi struggled to sit back up, glad for Cliegg’s reassuring presence by her side. She didn’t think she could have gotten this far without him there with her. Pushing aside her discomfort, she gave her best effort at one last push…and was rewarded with the sound of a baby’s first cry. “It’s a boy!” Aldonza cried as she placed the tiny newborn on the Queen’s chest. Shmi could only smile as she felt tears running down her face as she looked first at her baby, and then up at Cliegg’s beaming face. “No, it’s a miracle,” she whispered as she laid a gentle kiss upon her son’s head. And for that one precious moment, life was perfect. -----signature----- "Do or do not.
