"It doesn't explain how I was able to best you and take your arm," Obi-Wan countered.

Vader growled, his left hand clenching. "I was distracted. Don't expect the same outcome this time. I have no distractions here."

"Fair enough," Obi-Wan said. "Since you understand the formal rules of engagement, I challenge you to a dual."

Vader removed his cloak and tossed it to the side. "Very well. I accept."

"Shall we begin?"

"Be my guest."

VaderLVR64- Wait no longer. Here is the dual, take two and a half. tongue

Chapter 25: Showdown

Obi-Wan removed his cloak and handed it to Bail before unclipping his lightsaber from his belt. Taking a deep, calming breath, he raised his hilt up before him and bowed his head as his crystal blue blade came to life in front of him.

Vader stepped back and repeated the solute, grinning as his red blade cast odd shadows across the plains of his normally handsome face, making him look like a demon.

With the formalities over, the two warriors fell into their fighting stances, both ready to strike at a second's notice. All those around them backed away as much as possible to give them plenty of space to maneuver with their deadly weapons.

"Now, Master Kenobi, I plan on repaying you for our last meeting," Vader snarled.

"You can try," Obi-Wan said calmly.

"Oh, I plan on it," Vader said before moving to attack the Jedi.

Obi-Wan stepped forward and the pair clashed in a rush of red against blue that sent sparks showering all around them. Everything else faded as the dual began.

Vader grinned and easily parried Obi-Wan's first of a series of strikes against him. He hardly had to move to parry the second and the third. He was so immersed in the Force that he could sense Kenobi's confusion as to why the Sith was suddenly so much stronger than he'd been barely four days ago. But he knew the answer, he had not been connected to the dark side as he was now. "Master Kenobi, you disappoint me," Vader taunted, spinning out of the way of another attack.

Obi-Wan gritted his teeth as he shifted his grip on his lightsaber, backing away to allow the Sith to attack because his every strike was being too easily deflected. Vader's every move was elegant as his lightsaber moved everywhere. It took all of the Jedi's concentration to stay on his toes and move with Vder to stop the powerful strikes from hitting home.

Obi-Wan missed a parry and Vader's lightsaber flashed against his right shoulder. The pain was distracting enough that he missed Vader's lightsaber again, and this time his left thigh was singed.

Vader backed off, giving the Jedi room to breathe. "Two hits to none, Kenobi," he said. "And the next one won't be so superficial."

Obi-Wan looked up into the Sith's eyes and knew that if he didn't go all out only one of them would be walking away with their life. He took several deep breaths and remained himself that he had killed a Sith before. But the Sith on Naboo was nothing compared to the skill that seeped from Vader's every move.

"Shall we continue?" Vader finally asked.

Obi-Wan looked him over. There was only a fine sheen of sweat on his brow that gave away his exertions. But every inch of his body screamed with raw, untapped power that could easily overpower the Jedi. This was not the same man he'd faced days earlier. For a brief second he couldn't help but wonder what it would have been like if the Jedi had found his raw talent when he was young, how different would the galaxy be if Vader had been trained as a Jedi.

"All right," Obi-Wan said, nodding.

"Your attack," Vader said.

Obi-Wan moved as quickly as he could but the Sith was still able to read him a split second before he attacked and he danced out of the way of what would have been a serious blow. Vader's red blade caught his and lifted it over his head before slicing out at Obi-Wan's open torso. The Jedi barely managed to flip out of the way in time.

"Impressive," Vader said sarcastically before launching himself into a front flip over the Jedi's head, landing with his back to the other man. He caught Obi-Wan's attack and spun out of the way as his blade deflected the attack harmlessly to the side.

Obi-Wan stepped back to catch his breath. Vader's strikes were deadly accurate and every parry looked like he was dancing as he left the Jedi vulnerable to an attack. He was truly the best warrior he had ever faced.

Vader waited for Obi-Wan to recover again, a smug smile lifting the corners of his lips as he waited. This was too easy, he was sim;y playing with his prey, wearing the Jedi out before he would make his strike.

"Your attack," Obi-Wan finally said.

Vader's attack was swift, a succession of several difficult attacks that left Obi-Wan tripping over his own feet as he attempted to parry and get his own attacks in . The red blade moved impossibly fast as it flashed up, drawing Obi-Wan's up to block, only to move inside at the last moment and slice through the Jedi's right arm.

Obi-Wan howled in pain as he fell to his knees before the Sith Lord, clutching at his arm. Vader lowered his blade to the Jedi's throat, watching him swallow nervously as the heat of the blade got too close for comfort. But it hissed off and Vader moved to stand over the broken Jedi.

"An arm for an arm, Master Kenobi," Vader said simply. "The angel of death is feeling generous today."

"Why?" Obi-Wan asked.

"Because you spared me when you should have killed me. I will return the favor," Vader said. "But the next time we face, we will end this for good. I will give you time to recover and regain your strength before I find you again. My only hope for when we end this is that you put up more of a fight than you did today."

"How. . . How did you. . ."

"The dark side gives me strength," Vader said before turning to Bail. "As for you, Senator Organa, you are under arrest for treason against he Empire. I will be taking you back to Coruscant to stand trial."

Two troopers moved forward to take the Senator, binding his hands behind his back before taking him onto the ship.

"Remember what I have said to you today, Kenobi," Vader said. "And be prepared to fight to the death." He took a deep breath and let the darkness slip into its cage as he prepared to find his wife.

************

Padme looked up when she heard soft footsteps stop outside of her room. She glanced at Sabe, telling the other woman to leaver her with a single look. Sabe sighed and stood up, passing Vader as she left the room.

"You should go tend to Kenobi," Vader said without looking at her.

"Why? What happened to him?" Sabe demanded.

A smug smile lifted at the corners of his lips as he finally looked at her. "Only a bit of revenge," he said before entering Padme's room.

"Anakin," she breathed, sitting up.

"What's wrong Padme?" he asked. "Why are you in here?"

She looked at him, catching a glimmer of yellow in his eyes. "You slipped into the darkness again," she said. "I can see it in your eyes."

He closed his eyes and took another deep breath. "What's wrong?" he asked again, the harshness leaving his voice as he opened his eyes now that they had returned to their normal shade of blue.

She reached for him and moved closer, letting her grab his right hand. "Anakin," she whispered. "I. . . I. . ."

He suddenly grew worried for her and quickly pulled her into his arms. "What is it Padme?"

She buried her face against his chest and let his presence comfort her. She reluctantly pulled her head back and looked up at him, tears glittering in her eyes. "I had. . . Anakin, I had a miscarriage," she whispered, letting a single tear fall down her cheek.

His body went numb at the impact of her words. "Wh. . . What?"

"My body couldn't handle the stress."

He felt his heart jump into his throat as sudden emotions overwhelmed him. "No. . . " he whispered. He pulled her tight to to him and felt tears begin to well in his eyes. "No. . ."

"I'm so sorry," she sobbed against his chest.

He was silent for several long moments as he let her break down in his arms. "Shh. . ." he finally murmured, tenderly stroking her hair. "It wasn't your fault."

She eventually regained control over herself and she lifter her head to look up into his eyes. "Can we go home" she asked him weakly.

He nodded and lifted her up into his arms, feeling her curl into his his embrace as he carried her to their waiting shuttle.

Excellent action. It looks like I was right about the "an arm for an arm" bit. It seems a litte short, but great story, nonetheless.

Vader was generous for not killing Obi-Wan but I wonder when they'll meet again. thinking

Well, at least things might calm aka Vader not going on a rampage to find Padme since now she's back with him. tongue

I hope these two will be okay--maybe the miscarriage will be a reminder to Anakin/Vader of "what" could happen IF he lets the darkness take-over...let Anakin out praying

Wow, I'm surprised Vader didn't kill Obi-Wan. Padme must be having an influence on him. Lovly bittersweet reunion.

Well I still think there is something highly fishy with the miscarrage but until the time we gain more information only we can only guess. Vadar was more interested in getting Padme then truely removing Obi-wan at this point but did sort of level the playing feild between them

Good update, thanks for the pm and look forward to more

Great story. I've been lurking, professionally for some time now. When this latest chapter started, I thought 'oh, this is gonna be good, a fight to end all fights'. Imagine my disappointment when Vader, so totally immersed in the dark side, chops off ObiWans arm and then LETS HIM GO??? What? That is so OOC for him at this point. I'm kind of liking this Anader/Padme dynamic, very different and unexpected, but intriguing. Still loving the story, though that one point just seemed off. Maybe it's just me..
