RE: Vadey's Drabble Thread - Round 2 - week 15, updated 1/15 - Anakin/Vader
66. Melody
He hears her singing and winces. Stifling his laughter, for he would not hurt her feelings for all the galaxy, he tilts his head and listens.
Padmé is a lovely woman. She is a formidable opponent and a fierce fighter. She is everything a man could want in a wife.
But his beloved most definitely cannot sing a single true note.
She mangles the melody, warps the tune, and crushes the high notes.
Anakin grins, for it is good to know that she is not perfect.
She attempts a particularly challenging note and he cringes.
No, not perfect at all.
70. Symphony
There is a strange silence that greets him.
He has awakened to find himself in a perfect void.
Silence…and then…a veritable rich symphony of sound, for the first time in decades not warped and twisted by the hearing apparatus of a helmet.
He is, he finally realizes, free.
Then a son’s tears bathe his face and he marvels at the feel of that warm tribute on naked flesh.
No longer does he hear the death throes of the ship around them, he can hear only Luke’s voice.
Luke loves him.
How strange.
This boy, this child he never knew…loves him.
Ohh, absolutely gorgeous!!!
They all were super but I think this one's my favorite!
Marvelous job! Hugs!!!

Melody LOL
Yup, I do love the hum and snap hiss of lightsabers--and when two are dueling--I just like it a lot.
Sound--wow!!!! That was something!!!!
But this:
70. Symphony

Wow!!! Speechless, amazed and blown away!!!! Bravo!!!!!!!!

Once again these were terrific. I love the musical allusions. And once again so emotional and touching. Thank you for the update.

I've just read all of these little pearls. I'm very impressed. To be able to say so much with so few words.

Melody
is a nice peek into a side of A/P we don't really see in the movies. I love that Padme can't carry a tune.
With
Instrument
, you not only played off the prompt well by making the lightsaber an "instrument", but also used very effective, sparse language to get a lot across (goal of drabbles, I suppose
).
Sound
was amazing - probably my favorite of all of them!
Terrific work again, Vadey!

Thank you for reading!
Week 16 (1.21.08)
76. Lightsaber
It was a more elegant weapon, a symbol of a more civilized age. Obi-Wan sighed with regret as he tucked it away in its hiding place once more.
The time was not yet right; the day had not yet come for him to place Anakin’s saber in Luke’s hands. He had watched the boy, taken note of his strengths – and his flaws – and had let hope rouse to life within him.
Luke was his last hope.
No, not
quite
last.
For there was another.
He must be patient and wait on the will of the Force.
It was not easy.
77. Blaster
Watching the kid try and dodge blaster bolts held a certain dark amusement for Han Solo. He listened as the crazy old man yammered on and on about some hokey religion.
The Force?
Right… Sure… It all made sense.
If the old man had the gods on his side, then why did he need a good, fast ship to rescue his wrinkled old butt from the Imps?
Still, the kid had guts, letting the old man settle a helmet over his head. He’d take more than a few hits for his trouble.
“Give me a blaster any day,” he muttered.
78. Vibroblade
There was something intimate about working with a vibroblade. It was not discreet and distant like a blaster, it did not require the skill of a saber.
In some ways, it was her least favorite weapon. Not opposed to taking a life, she still preferred it neat…clean.
The vibroblade was, in the purest sense of the word phrase, an instrument of wet work.
And there was something unsettling about looking into a being’s eyes as life flickered out. She could
feel
it in the Force; she did not need to see it too.
An assassin with a conscience.
How uncomfortable.
79. Bowcaster
Humans were amusing. Not the brightest inhabitants of the galaxy, but certainly worth a laugh or two, especially if one understood them.
Chewie watched with ill-concealed glee as Han tried to handle the massive weapon. His struggles were almost comical, though Chewie was careful to control his chuffs of laughter.
Solo didn’t look in a very joking mood at the moment. Finally, Han gave a roar of frustration that would have made any Wookiee proud and dropped the weapon to the floor.
“It’s as clumsy as a stupid lightsaber,” Han muttered.
Chewie glanced at Luke, who hid his smile too.
80. Thermal Detonator
There were times she didn’t even mind the mess. A pleasant, sated sensation still had her feeling lazy. She could hear Luke singing in the shower. Off key.
She looked around their bedroom. It looked like a thermal detonator had gone off in the room. He had come in from a mission last night and his clothes had mysteriously disappeared as they stumbled to the bedroom. Some had been torn in the process, though strangely, she could not remember how.
Her own clothes had fared no better.
Smiling, she snuggled under the covers, and listened to him sing. Off key.

How very true

I liked
Vibroblade
a lot; I think it was my favorite.
But the humor, Wookiee POV, and Han & Chewie focus of
Bowcaster
was fantastic as well. For being such good friends, I see surprisingly little really
about
their relationship.
Great work!

Week 17 (1.28.08)
81. Black
Her eyes appeared black in the moonlight, sparkling with life and secret amusement. She was laughing at him, standing so uncertainly, his hands reaching out for her.
“I love you,” he offered and her smile widened.
Tenderly, she put her hand in his, just as earlier that day she had bound her life to him.
“Anakin,” she whispered softly.
He gazed into the dark pools of her eyes and he wanted to lose himself there, never to return.
“Everything will be all right,” he promised her.
“I know.”
If there was doubt in her voice, neither of them acknowledged it.
82. Blond
The baby boy had a bit of blond fluff crowning his head. Beru smiled as she touched that soft warmth. Luke smiled up at her with eyes as blue as a flawless Tatooine sky.
“I love you, little one,” she whispered softly.
The grin he gave her seemed to promise that he would love her too.
Glancing up, Beru saw Owen watching them. “He’s a blessing,” she said and Owen nodded.
“We’ll do right by him,” Owen said gruffly.
Beru smiled and looked at the baby, wondering what “right” would be. If she had doubts, she would not speak them.
83. Red
She had red hair. He didn’t even like redheads.
Did he?
They were temperamental and stubborn, at least that’s what his uncle had once said. Glancing at her again, Luke wondered if her hair would feel as warm as it looked.
“Touch me and die, farmboy,” she whispered softly.
Luke grinned. “Get out of my head,” he murmured with no real heat.
“I could still kill you, you know.”
Shrugging, he looked away before he could be overwhelmed with the temptation to touch her.
“If you say so.”
If there was doubt in his words, neither of them mentioned it.
84. Brown
His hair was darkening slightly with age, turning a soft, warm brown that went well with the fine lines that now etched his face.
Reaching out, she traced the line of his jaw. “I love you,” she whispered.
“You’d better,” he answered, nuzzling at her neck. “My Mara…”
“My farmboy,” she said as she caressed his back.
“You’ll enjoy being married,” he promised.
“If you say so,” she teased.
But he heard the doubt in her voice, saw the fear in her eyes.
“I promise.” He met her eyes, his lips touched hers.
“I think you mean it.”
“Of course.”
85. Bald
The baby was mostly bald. And loud. “He’s your son,” Luke announced, struggling to be heard over the screams coming from their child.
“I was thinking he was more Skywalker right now,” she answered just as loudly.
Ben suddenly gulped audibly and then fell silent, staring up at them with indignant grey eyes.
“I love you, little one,” she whispered. “Even when you’re pure Skywalker.”
“I think that’s the Jade we just heard,” Luke argued.
Her eyes met his. “We’ll get the hang of this,” she said.
“Sure we will.”
They both ignored the fear. The doubt.
“Sure we will.”
