I realize that this incident is just the first of many.
Unfortunately so and Owen is bound to find out
I wonder if Beru will be more prepared to talk to him about it when he does?
Great update

Beautiful job showing Beru's reaction to Luke and the "incident."
What will we say? Where do we draw the line between what is right and what is safe?
And those were questions she must have asked herself every day.
Loving this fic more with each post!

dancing_star I'm not sure she can.
earlybird-obi-wan Thanks for reading!
AzureAngel2 Yes, it probably will.
celine It would be difficult, that's for sure.
Jade_eyes She's going to be a very busy lady.
ShrunkenJedi I don't think it would be a constant thing. Luckily!
Alexis_Wingstar Give him another six months.
KELIA I think Beru can handle it.
Gina Beru is such a great character, it's a joy to write her.
PadawanMom5610 Will do, and I hope you enjoy!
Entry #15
Since the one incident, there have been no more “mysteries” around Luke. I’m beginning to wonder if I imagined the whole thing. Maybe I didn’t put the tool up, or maybe the hydrospanner fell.
I don’t know. But even if it was this “force” that Obi-Wan talked about, I guess we’ll deal with that when it comes. All I know is that Owen won’t be pleased. He doesn’t want any reminders of Luke’s father. As much as he loved Shmi, that’s how much he hates Anakin. Luckily, when he looks at Luke he sees Shmi. That’s easier for both of us. Shmi’s grandson is a joy, and we leave it at that.
~~~~
I’ve hardly had time to write in this journal. A mobile Luke keeps me far busier than I ever imagined possible. He’s into everything and no matter how many times I rescue him from imminent peril, he’s right back into it the moment I turn my back.
I think I saw a grey hair in the mirror this morning, and I know exactly where to lay the blame. But just when I think I’m exasperated beyond bearing, Luke will look up at me and give me a wide grin, as if to say that he’s sorry for causing so much trouble and that he loves me.
I’m beginning to understand more of Shmi’s stories now.
If he’s like this before he even turns a year old, what will the next few years hold? Luke is a loving, generous, and easy-going child, but he’s also energetic, stubborn, and far too busy. He never stops from the moment he opens those big blue eyes in the morning until he literally collapses with exhaustion after I place him in his crib.
Owen has taken to coming home for the mid-meal to give me a few moments to myself. Generally I take those minutes to use the ‘fresher without seeing tiny little fingers poking under the door. Sometimes, Luke escapes Owen’s vigilance and still tracks me down.
I have a little shadow now, and his name is Luke.
I have no time to myself, and even getting a sonic shower has become a challenge. My meal times are hurried and I shovel in my food in between making sure that Luke hasn’t stuffed something up his nose or thrown it off the table. I can’t remember the last time I sat down and read anything beyond directions.
And strangely, I wouldn’t change a minute of it.
I absolutely love my life, busy and loud and hectic as it is.
Awwwwwwwww!!
I used to follow my mom around just like that, only I was a lot older. But just like Beru, I don't think she minded too much either because she loves me. Lovely update!!
As a secondary school teacher in the making I fully understand Beru here.
As a former kindergarden teacher and elementary-school teacher I also know what little shadows and perils are.
I simply love this up-date.
Owen needs to improve his vigilence...good thing Beru's in charge most of the time...bet he'd go mad stuck with Luke all day.
...speaking of men...I wonder what poor exiled Obi-Wan is doing right now?
I can sympathize. LOL! They can drive us to distraction, but somehow it only makes us love them more.
Lovely work, my dear!
As hectic and overwhelming a toddler can be, I know from personal experience that when they aren't around they're missed greatly. This update brought back memories for me. It also makes me think of the song, "You're gonna miss this".
Great update.
Oh yes, that's exactly how it is. Priceless. This made me laugh:
My meal times are hurried and I shovel in my food in between making sure that Luke hasn’t stuffed something up his nose or thrown it off the table.
Oh, the stories I could tell...but you've obviously been there, so you have plenty of your own. I love thinking of Luke as a "normal" toddler, especially those tiny fingers under the fresher door.
I take those minutes to use the ‘fresher without seeing tiny little fingers poking under the door.
And I bet she misses them when she does.
I loved Beru's admission of no privacy in one breath and acknowledgement she loves her new life in the next.
Funny the effect kids have on their parents.
Great update
What a lovely update! You portrayal of baby Luke reminds me of my own son! (Especially the fingers under the door and being into everything.)
LOL Moment: "I think I saw a grey hair in the mirror this morning, and I know exactly where to lay the blame."
Bravo!
Well shame on me for getting behind on this one. It is beautifully written and I love the zingers and deep thoughts that are sprinkled through the daily life and humor.
For example:
But she is gone and I am alone. With Luke -- and Owen. And a future I cannot predict.
Perhaps that is for the best.
or
But when I opened the door, there stood Obi-Wan Kenobi. He looked unwell. If anything, he looked even worse than the day he had placed Luke in my arms. And on that day I felt as if I was looking at a shell, a man who had been shattered into a million pieces and put back together by clumsy, uncaring hands.
... ...
I could tell that he had come for a purpose, but first I asked him if he wanted to see Luke. Something warm and surprised came into his eyes at that point and I thought how handsome and sweet he looked in that moment.
... ...
He could have fled to safety and hidden himself in the vastness of the universe. Instead, he has chosen to keep a vigil over the son of the man who tried to kill him.
He honors Anakin, not what Anakin became.
Anyway, Luke was asleep, and I offered to wake him (after all, Obi-Wan had come a long way to bring Luke to us) but Obi-Wan said no, that he was happy just to look at him.
And he did.
I noticed that his hand shook when he reached down and touched Luke's head. There might have been tears in his eyes too, but when he turned to look at me again, his expression was as serene as always.
Once a Jedi, always a Jedi. Even here, even now.
Poor Obi-Wan!!
And this one is outright killer:
As Owen slept, I suddenly realized what I had seen in Ben's eyes when he told me about Vader.
There had been anger and fear and grief.
But there had been something else as well.
Hope.
Anakin was not dead, merely lost.
And the lost could be found.
Then I felt a cold fear rise up in me.
Who better to find the father than the son?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't know how you do it ... writing so many fics and all of them so good. But I sure am glad you do!
