Luke never looked so much like his father than in that moment, with those earnest blue eyes staring into mine, the blond bangs hanging just over his brow. Looking at my son, I saw Ani as I first saw him... a sweet little boy willing to help in whatever way he could. Ben didn't tie our arms that tight, so I was able to wiggle out of the bonds to grab Luke and hug him tight. "Thank you so much," I whispered.
"Now I can't breathe!" Luke whispered back, but he was giggling as he did so, the little scamp... just like his father.
Of course, I released him as I got up, tagged him and shouted, "Now you're it, nyah nyah!"
"Hey, no fair!" He shouted back as he wiggled out of his bonds as well.
We both kept laughing as we continued playing the game.
I imagine that would be a bittersweet thing for her.

Awww, Luke can be so sweet! That was a lovely moment. I really like how the 'Anakin' in Luke shone through.

I'm glad you liked it.

Aw, I think we all saw Anakin in that.
Yeah, I think Anakin could have been so much more like Luke under different circumstances.

Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I will do my best.

Yes, parts of this story is humorous. But I think you'll see it's not all fun and games.

Seeing the good that was in Anakin through her son gives her hope.

Can't he though? I've always liked Luke.
That incident was actually inspired by something that happened between my son and me. When he was three, I was having an asthma attack, and he didn't understand what was going on. He wanted to play, but I told him I couldn't because I couldn't breath. He climbed up into my lap and blew in my face much like Luke did with Padme. I just had to put it in there, especially since my son resembles Jake Lloyd in TPM.
Year 6, Month 4:
I got the scare of my life today. Ben and I took Luke to Anchorhead. Owen was there with Akee. The two boys were both excited over seeing a dewback, and asked Coln Burrk, who owned it, if they could mount it. With Owen's and my permission, Coln lifted the boys onto it's back.
We were talking to Coln, and even though he had a hold of the reigns, he was distracted. Something spooked his dewback, and it suddenly reared up on it's hind legs, jerking the straps from Coln's grip. Akee screamed in terror as he fell off, but lay silent and still as Luke held onto the saddle horn. The dewback took off with Luke still on!
Ben quickly got back into the landspeeder, and I hopped in as well. We took off after the dewback. When we came side to side with it, Ben told me to take the wheel. He then stood and put one foot on the side of the speeder, then lept onto the dewback behind Luke. Soon, Ben stopped the wild charging, and I drove the landspeeder back to where Coln and Owen were. Ben and Luke followed on the dewback.
When Ben and Luke dismounted, I hugged Luke so tight. I was crying so hard I couldn't say anything. I was so relieved he was safe.
Poor Akee isn't though. He's in the hospital emergency room. He didn't wake up during the ride to the hospital
Luke was more shaken to see Akee laying still and all the blood from his friend's head than the wild ride on the dewback. In fact, before he realized Akee was hurt, he was willing to get back on and try it again. I'm worried for Luke. He's so quiet, and he won't talk about what's happened. He's just sitting quietly in the chair as we wait with Owen and Beru on word from the doctor.
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Luke and Akee took an unexpected wild ride on a panicking dewback today. Akee fell off right away and is severely injured. He's being worked on in the emergency room right now. I'm worried about Luke. He hasn't said anything since he realized Akee was hurt. He sits there, pale and staring straight ahead. He isn't even responding when Angel and I talk to him. His eyes don't even move.
He's in shock, and I can't reach him.
I do care about Akee, and I hope he'll be okay for his own sake... but I wish it as much or even more for Luke. I'm afraid of what Akee's death will do to him.

Awww... that's terrible! I hope Akee makes it through - and I hope Luke perks up again. This could really traumatize him. Hopefully Obi-Wan and Padme can find a way to reach him. Don't give up, Luke!

Thank you for your replies, everyone. I didn't mean to leave you all in suspense for so long... blame the Saga awards, 'cause it took me awhile to figure out which stories to nominate (too many good authors here as well as terrific stories to make it easy).
iluvwriting, PetraKenobi and KaraJadeKim, I'm glad you are enjoying this story, and you will be recieving a PM soon.
Year 6, Month 4, continued:
We came home last night after Akee was out of surgery. We brought Coolanna, Beru and Owen's daughter, with us to stay the night... Oh, that's right, I forgot to put down in this diary about her being born. I had said a couple years ago about Beru being pregnant. Well, she gave birth to little Coolanna some months after that, and they named her after Beru's older sister, Coolie.
Luke didn't want to come home... he screamed and begged to see Akee. It's not like him to raise such a tantrum... not even when he was two did he ever have a fit like this. I was afraid he was going to hurt himself! It was Beru who was able to settle him down. She knelt in front of him as she placed her hands on his shoulders, and said, "Luke, you're not helping him by doing this! Akee needs you to take care of his baby sister because he can't right now. Can you do that?"
Luke nodded solemnly as he wiped his tears on his sleeve, then took my hand. "Let's go, mom, Coolanna needs to eat. She's hungry."
The transformation was startling, and I was grateful to Beru for her wisdom and compassion. She is a great mother, and a beautiful friend. I'm still worried for Luke, though. He wouldn't eat a bite at dinner last night, and barely ate anything for breakfast. Ben stayed with him in his room all night.
Ben's at the hospital now though. He left right after breakfast, taking Luke's Tomo with him.
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Luke is such an extraordinary child. I find myself taking an un-Jedi-like pride in him. Last night, I had a long talk with him after he went to bed. He revealed through his tears that he thought it was his fault Akee fell and hurt himself. It seems Luke had gotten a warning feeling through the Force that the dewback was going to bulk, and he quickly held on. He felt he should have warned Akee, but he didn't know Akee couldn't feel the warning too. I explained to him what he felt was the Force, and that Akee wasn't as strong in the Force as he was so couldn't hear it as well... if at all. He still felt that he should have told Akee to hold on. I think I was finally able to convince him he wasn't to blame for Akee falling, and he fell asleep in my arms.
I held Luke all night. I was... am... so thankful he is safe! I couldn't love him more if he were my own son.
This morning, he gave me Tomo, his stuffed ibbit. "Tomo wants to watch over Akee like I'm watching over Coolanna."
It's time for me to go to the hospital now. I have a feeling Akee will be alright.

He is your son, Obi-Wan, in all but blood. You don't need that blood connection to love another.
This morning, he gave me Tomo, his stuffed ibbit. "Tomo wants to watch over Akee like I'm watching over Coolanna."
Aw, what a sweetie Luke is.
