Title:
The Clone War
Genre:
Alternate Universe, Action, Adventure, Relationships, Politics
Notes:
This is definitely Alternate Universe. I am assuming Episode I happened pretty close to canon but Episode II only happened in fragments. Any Anakin/Padme from Episode II is gone, didn't happen. The Clone War also started later in Anakin's life, he was 27 when it started and the war is still raging as his 31st life day approaches. He hasn't talked with Padme in nearly 20 years and only see's fleeting glances of her when he's rarely on Coruscant and at this point is not secretly in love with her. We pick up the story as plans are already being worked by the evil Sith Lords and the Republic seems to be tearing at the seams and against each other as well. I know the question will come up, so I will explain it now about Anakin being older. Before the prequels I always imagined Anakin being in his early 30's when he turned to the dark side. There are no hints from Alec Guinness' dialog that suggest this, it's just something I always thought. Obviously there are a 'some' complaints by 'some' fans about Anakin's maturity level in the new movies. I don't want that to be a concern in this, so in this story he is older, as I originally imagined him to be, and more hardened by war than what you might be used to. Obi-Wan might seem to have a funny bone, early in the story but this is only to contrast Anakin and any preconceived notions fans may have about his persona.
Also on a side note, if anyone who is good at proof reading and editing would like to Beta this story for me, I would appreciate it.
One other note, lack of motivation for completing stories has plagued me in the past, I am really trying to go against that now. I'm very excited about the theatrical release in August and I'm hoping that will suffice as motivation for me to see this story through to the end, so please bare with me if you like the story.

Chapter 1
Depositions
“I hear by call this congressional deposition into order,” called an empowered voice.
There was no change in the environment of the small room as it had silent for some time. All attention was shifted towards the
Chagrian
, Mas Amedda who sat in the elevated chair as he pounded a wooden gavel to make the hearing official. Everyone was quite motionless as Amedda looked over information on a datapad.
The gathered members of congress were not in their usual seats today. These thirty ‘elite’ members had been chosen by Chancellor Palpatine himself soon after the first battles of the Clone War. The room they sat in today was much smaller and cramped within the Senate building. Gone were the hovering pods that zoomed around the open space of the formal gathering space where full sessions of Congress took place.
Instead these so-called elite members were to ask soldiers of the Republic to recount their stories of battle for official record. At first Jedi were not included in these hearings but that was soon changed by a political bill, urged on by Palpatine.
No one was sure of the Chancellor’s methods when it came to choosing these special members to be included in these detailed depositions. The political views from top to bottom of all thirty members were as varied as could be.
“Our first inquisition today will be of three Jedi who have just returned from Muunilinst.” Amedda announced, breaking the silence. “As always I will ask you all to hold off judgments until the questioned have had all they have to say. Queries are welcomed as always in the normal manner, of course.”
Mas Amedda nodded to an alien wearing royal blue robes, standing near the entrance of the room to let their guests in. In walked two Jedi Knights and a padawan. The thirty elites looked at them with varying interest but the Jedi walked straight ahead in a small single file line towards a table to the right of Mas Amedda. They only finally looked at the members of congress when they were sitting directly across from them, each side-by-side of the other.
“Please raise a hand so that you might be recognized by our members,” Mas told them sternly.
The Jedi did not respond, in fact they did not even look at Mas. It was very apparent they did not like being here, being scrutinized like criminals.
“Ahsoka Tano, Padawan Learner of the Jedi Temple.” Amedda called out.
Ahsoka was young, perhaps only sixteen and the only non-human of the three Jedi but she did not seem to be flustered. She simply raised a hand for the briefest of moments before lowering it. Mas nodded his approval before looking at his datapad again and saying the next name, “Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight of the Jedi Temple and a General of the Republic Army.”
Kenobi was the oldest of the three Jedi, the whiskers of his beard had started to turn grey several years ago. He gestured the same as Ahsoka and was now officially recognized by the panel.
Mas Amedda did not look to his datapad this time; instead he actually shifted slightly in his seat to face the last Jedi at the table. “Anakin Skywalker, you need little introduction I suppose.”
Anakin didn’t seem to take too kindly to this but tried not to show it. Of course no one at the table he was sitting at needed to be introduced. Yes, he was sure his face was on the holonews multiple times a night, but no more than his former Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi or his own apprentice Ahsoka Tano. They were of course always with him in the thick of whatever battle they were sorting out. But he was the “poster boy” as Obi-Wan always joked.
“Poster boy” was fine for someone who was actually a boy, or perhaps just passing out of that phase of their life, but Anakin Skywalker was far from being a boy these days. Not only had he been hardened by the last four years of war, but he would be turning thirty-one years of age within the next week, as Ahsoka reminded him on an hourly basis.
Nevertheless, Anakin gestured the same to allow himself be recognized by the panel as well. Mas Amedda turned back to face the panel in a more prescribed manner as the introductions had been made.
“A brief overview then?” Mas said, his voice carrying throughout the room. “If my information is correct, the three of you have just returned from Muunilinst where you were trying for several weeks to stop any potential for a battle, but in the end you did not succeed, is this correct?”
Anakin shifted in his seat and Ahsoka gave him a worrisome look. She knew exactly what her master would like to say to Mas Amedda right now, and she didn’t even need the Force to read his thoughts (as she could do when he wasn’t guarding them). Though it was not Anakin who spoke up; it was Obi-Wan Kenobi.
“That depends on your definition of succeed,” Obi-Wan said, hiding a smirk as he brushed his beard with his hand.
“My definition is of little significance here, Master Kenobi.” Mas said warningly. “Your mission was to stop an impending battle at all cost!”
“And we did stop it,” Obi-Wan said passively.
“You do not comprehend my meaning, Master Kenobi,” Mas said impatiently. “You may have stopped the battle by winning it, as I’m sure that’s your next point. My point however is, is that a battle should have never taken place. You were sent on this operation specifically for your well known skills as a negotiator.”
“And I’m touched by the sentiment,” Obi-Wan said, a sardonic smile now visible on his face. “The fact is, if I’m thought so highly of and even I could not stop the conflict from spilling into a bloody battle on the streets, then who Sir… could?
“Regardless of technicalities you failed, Master Kenobi,” Mas said with a definite and final tone in his voice. “I will now open up this hearing for questions from our panel.”
The hand of Senator Organa, a tall, handsome man of royalty from Alderaan went into the air.
“Senator Organa,” Amedda recognized him to speak.
“Master Kenobi,” Organa began, looking the Jedi in the eyes. “Can you give us a thorough description of what your directives were in this mission?”
“I’m afraid that’s a matter of record with the Jedi Council,” Obi-Wan said in his most insipid voice. “I cannot say that they would not divulge that information with you but I am not at liberty to give any explicit or detailed information from my report.”
“Then what is the point of these meetings!” An alien from the other side of the room roared. “We have passed bills to get around this and yet we still have all these secrets.”
“I will ask you not to speak out of turn again,” Amedda reprimanded him.
Organa glared at Amedda until he stopped talking before beginning again, “Of course you have said that a bloody battle did ensue, will you please reveal the events that led to this… upon your arrival of course.” Bail added.
So Obi-Wan began to tell them the story of their arrival on Muunilinst. Anakin could only just suppress a smile at how bland of a story his former master was making it out to be. Of course Obi-Wan was a very good storyteller when he wanted to be but he despised these depositions as much as any Jedi could despise anything.
When they had arrived on Muunilinst, they could see armies of battle droids stationed in the distance of one of the major cities. They had been brought to the planet with voices of peace and agreement from the Muuns. Once they had touched down however, they soon realized that the Muuns had no intentions of ceasing their financial support of the Separatists.
Soon all three Jedi were entombed in the best fortress the planet had, which wasn’t saying much. Everyone on Muunilinst seemed to be so wealthy that there didn’t need to be petty crime; therefore they did not have suitable prisons to contain Jedi as highly skilled as these.
Obi-Wan told the panel of their escape and made it sound much easier than it actually was. As they made their way to freedom he told them of their encounter with the evil bounty hunter Durge who seemed to be leading a battalion of droids.
Once the Jedi had freed a large section of imprisoned Clone Troopers, the battle spilled to the streets and the lives of innocent and not so innocent alike, lost their lives. In the end, Durge had been forced off the planet but was still at large.
After Obi-Wan’s long winded tale, a female voice had cleared her throat and raised her hand.
“Senator Amidala of the Naboo,” Mas said, recognizing her.
Anakin dared a glance at her for the first time as she spoke. He had only seen her for brief moments over the last twenty years since his Jedi training had begun. They had been friends for a short time as children but had not so much as spoken a word since. He knew she was a few years older than he yet she still seemed to look as though she were in her early twenties. Anakin had to wonder to himself if this was a trait of all Naboo women or if it just happened to run in her family.
“After four years of support, what could lead the Jedi to believe that the Muuns would change their allegiance?” Amidala questioned, her tone not as friendly as Bail’s had been.
“With all due respect,” Obi-Wan replied. “It was your Chancellor who gave us the information.”
“Don’t you mean, our Chancellor…? Master Kenobi?” Amidala replied.
She was no fan of Palpatine but then again, she couldn’t say she was a fan of Obi-Wan’s lackadaisical attitude.
“Chancellor Palpatine then?” Obi-Wan shot back.
“Wasn’t it worth a chance?” Ahsoka spoke up, her tone was brash and she stared daggers at Amidala. “I mean they asked us there and it is in our nature to give second chances. It wasn’t as if the Muuns had ever killed anyone of the Republic by their own hand.”
“But they may as well have done so,” said an out of turn male senator. “They have funded them these long years!”
“Then we did the Republic a favor by teaching them a lesson,” Ahsoka blurted, a little more bravely.
“A favor?” Amidala said incredulously, rising from her seat. “A favor? You call anything done in this war a favor to anyone? Is it not also in the nature of a Jedi to care… to have compassion? From all reports we have received, hundreds of innocent Muuns were killed in that battle. Millions more of every other species have been killed all over the galaxy in the last four years.”
Amidala stared at Ahsoka for a moment, and then shared her dangerous glare with the rest of the committee and even Mas Amedda. She continued to stand, waiting… daring anyone to retort.
“We are not on trial here,” Anakin had spoken for the first time.
Amidala was shocked at the sound of his voice. She looked at him as though she only just recognized who he truly was. “Excuse me?”
“I said,” Anakin said, standing up to match her intensity. “We are not on trial here. This is a deposition we are giving you because…”
“What?” Amidala urged. “Because you feel like it? Out of the goodness of your heart? Excuse me but you are required to be here right now. So I’m sorry if you feel as though you are on trial but perhaps you should be. Your friend here, whom I used to consider a friend of my own, thinks his is a big joke apparently.”
Obi-Wan shifted to protest but Anakin was game, “Let’s just assume that the Jedi didn’t fight this war for the Republic and its leaders, who apparently don’t appreciate what we do for them… Let’s just pretend the battle droids could come in here at any moment and take you all hostage and kill you if they so pleased. How many days has the Jedi stopped that fate, Senator? Count those days and you can consider that how many times the Jedi have saved your life and in your specific case Senator, maybe add a few on.”
“I don’t want anyone to fight, I don’t want this war.” Amidala responded. She was nearly speechless; Anakin’s verbal attack on her was not fair and unwarranted.
“But you’ve got one,” Anakin said, pointedly. “We all have a war on our hands and we are just doing our part. Excuse us for trying to live another day, so that we can fight another day… For you, Senator! I’m tired of coming home, after months and months away and being looked at like a criminal. The citizens of this planet may as well spit in my face for all the respect they have for the Jedi. As far as this deposition goes, you can quote what I’ve said, because that’s all your getting out of me. I’ve sat here and listened to this bickering every time after a battle. Well I’m sick of it and I’m not going to listen to it anymore. Go ahead and arrest me for not taking part in these political games. I dare say that would be a better fate than this insanity.”
“That’s not what Senator Amidala meant,” Bail stood to her defense. “And you know it Master Skywalker. I’m sorry this whole thing is an inconvenience to you but perhaps if you and the Jedi would put forth a little more effort and not take this as some kind of joke and treat us with some respect, you would receive the same in return.”
“Effort?” Ahsoka now stood. “How dare you speak to
my
master about effort! Next to him, none of you have ever put forth a hard day’s work.”
The entire room was in chaos and Mas Amedda didn’t seem to be in any hurry to stop it. Obi-Wan chanced a glance at him and swore somewhere underneath his oily, blue skin he could see a smile…
The next moment, Obi-Wan was watching in horror was Anakin had hoisted Ahsoka on his shoulder, carrying her from the room as she yelled in defense of her master.
**
“That was good,” Obi-Wan muttered as they all three bounded towards the Council Chamber inside of the Jedi Temple.
“Where did you learn that stuff from?” Anakin asked, looking at his padawan.
“I wonder,” Obi-Wan said in jest.
“Can you believe that Senator from Naboo!” Ahsoka said. “How dare she! How dare she!”
Ahsoka’s nails were digging into her own palms from the angry fists she was making.
“Calm down,” Anakin said.
“Indeed,” Obi-Wan agreed. “She has been outspoken about the war even before it began. She was never in favor of a clone army. She is so desperate for peace she has no way of going about it.”
“Like any of us do?” Anakin asked.
“Still though,” Ahsoka said, having to walk faster to keep up with the taller men. “I wouldn’t mind just putting a mind trick on her. She gets on my last nerve; she acts as if we don’t desire the same thing.”
“While we do desire the same thing in the end and she knows this,” Obi-Wan began. “Senator Amidala feels that we have a different way of getting to that resolution.”
“Well we do have a different way don’t we?” Ahsoka said, matter-of-factly.
Anakin and Obi-Wan both looked at her, not sure what she was getting at.
“I mean, at least we are doing something. What are the Senator’s doing? Sitting around, trying to critique how we are getting results, when they don’t have the first clue.”
“Sounds about right,” Obi-Wan said, shrugging.
“Don’t encourage her,” Anakin pleaded with a sigh. “She’s already in enough trouble.”
Ahsoka stopped in her tracks, “Trouble? Me? For what?”
Anakin turned on his heel and the look in his eyes was incredulous, “For what? How about that little outburst in there? That’s no way for a Jedi to act; you are going to be doing a lot of meditating tonight.”
For a moment, Ahsoka almost pointed out his little eruption in the hearing, but she dared not tack on any punishment, as meditating wasn’t actually a punishment at all. As she thought better of it, the three of them continued on their way to the Council to explain about the disruption they would surely already know about.

Very nice beginning!
The congressional disposition was typical of a political proceeding - a huge waste of time.
I'm impressed Anakin contained his...shall we say, annoyance at how he was being treated so well. A definite sign of his maturity.
he would be turning thirty-one years of age within the next week, as Ahsoka reminded him on an hourly basis
Sounds like they have a good Master/Padawan relationship.
Please PM me when you update
Looking forward to more

Chapter 2
keila
- I actually got the idea for the hearing from all the Baseball and congress crap that is going on, I thought it would go well with this, a rift between the Senate and the Jedi already beginning to form and the Jedi seen as less than hero's in the eyes of many (vietnam anyone?) So I borrowed a lot of ideas for this, thanks for reading.
LilyHobbitJedi
- Hope you continue to like Ahsoka in this chapter. I'm having a lot of fun with her right now. Thanks for reading.
randomangel22
- Yes I hope it is fresh. There will undoubtedly be some similarities between the movie and this story just for obvious reasons, but I'm going to try to keep it within the realm of possibility, that if you read this story, then watched ANH, it would still fit in somehow?? Thanks for reading.
sorry if there are any errors, I read over it a few times but I don't have a beta reader yet. hope it's enjoyable, although this chapter is a little more humorous than others that will follow. Anyway, here is Chapter 2, I hope it's good.
Chapter 2
A Proposal… of Sorts
The last glimpses of sunlight could be seen hiding behind the towering buildings of Coruscant as night came. Padmé Amidala watched the sunset as best she could from the veranda of her luxurious apartment. She turned to see her guest coming back with two crystal glasses in his hand.
Bail Organa handed her one of the expensive glasses which was half filled with an ocher colored liquid. Padmé took the drink and gave Bail a fleeting, yet beautiful smile before turning her attention back to the skies.
“Another beautiful night,” Bail commented. “I only wish it could be this beautiful all around the galaxy.”
Padmé did not verbally respond but Bail knew she agreed.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “Listen to me, dredging up work and the dreadfulness that is all around us. Bad habit of mine, I suppose.”
Padmé turned to look at him and nervously sipped her drink, “It’s okay; I think that’s all that is ever on my mind as well. Nothing to do here but work; even if there was something fun to do, I think I’d feel too guilty to partake in it.”
Bail nodded as he took a larger sip from his own drink.
“It’s just ever since I lost,” Bail stopped himself. He knew the last thing anyone wanted to hear was his sob story about his wife who had passed over a year prior.
Padmé shifted in her seat so that she was closer to Bail now and put her hand on his shoulder, “I don’t blame you for burying yourself in your work. It has to be easier than thinking about…”
Padmé cut herself off before saying her name. She didn’t know how Bail might respond to actually hearing it aloud.
“I’m sorry to bring it up; I know you have your own worries.” Bail said, looking through the crystal glass in his hand.
“It’s no problem,” Padmé replied. “That’s what friends are for, Bail.”
“Thanks,” Bail replied, his gaze still not meeting Padmé’s. “You are my most trusted friend on this forsaken planet. I think I would have already given up and went back home if I didn’t feel the responsibility to my people.”
“Well that just shows what kind of man you are,” Padmé said, a nurturing tone exuded from her. “Unlike some people.”
Bail turned to look at Padmé at this. He knew she was talking about the Jedi and the argument that had transpired earlier in the day.
“The Jedi are not bad,” Bail said. “They feel they are being infringed upon and I personally can’t blame them. Professionally though, I must do what I have to do.”
Padmé’s eyes left Bail and shifted back towards the sky, “I know they are good and are trying to do the right thing. Honestly, I just don’t know what to think anymore about a lot of things.”
Bail nodded as if he knew exactly what she meant.
“You are over worked,” Bail said with finality in his voice. “Just as I am over worked… Padmé, I know you said you would feel guilty about doing anything fun while people are out there suffering. But for us to help them, we cannot be tied up in knots and lose our own hope and grip on reality.”
Padmé looked at Bail, not exactly sure what he was playing at.
“What I’m trying to ask you is,” Bail stammered.
He was usually calm, cool, and collective in front of hundreds of fellow senators, but now Bail Organa of the royal family of Alderaan seemed to be blushing.
“There is a formal event tomorrow evening for some of Coruscant’s most prestigious, as I’m sure you have heard. I have so many complicated emotions about even asking you this, but I know that Breha would not want me to go on living life the way I have been.”
Still Padmé looked a little confused but she was starting to piece together what Bail was going to ask next.
“As I said, you are my dearest friend and I respect you as much as anyone in this entire galaxy. I would just be honored if you joined me tomorrow evening. I’m not promising that I’m a great date or anything but it would mean a lot to me and I think it would take both our minds off our duties… even if it is only for a few short hours.”
She didn’t know what to say or what to do. This was the first time in years a man had asked her on a… date? Did he say date? She had always been so busy with being Queen of Naboo and then Senator of Naboo to ever think about having relationships or even a social life for that matter.
“Bail, I uh…” It was Padmé’s turn to stammer.
“Of course,” Bail replied, suppressing a frown. “I just thought… no hard feelings though.”
“Of course I would love to go with you Bail,” Padmé cut him off.
Bail’s spirits rose immediately, “That’s… that’s wonderful. I will do my best to show you a good time then.”
“I’m sure it will be great,” Padmé said, a small giggle escaped her lips.
Bail smiled at her and Padmé at him. She could tell that Breha still swam in his eyes and that he must be very lonely. She very much doubted that he had any real interest in her. But soon those doubts were driven from her mind as he leaned in closer to her.
Her curly, brown hair smelled wonderful to him as he inched ever closer. A few strands had broken loose from their knots and it made her even more appealing to him. His lips parted slightly as he was determined to kiss her.
Suddenly his hand clasped above her bosom!
“Bail!” She exclaimed.
She looked at his hand which was still hovering over the skin which was exposed from the cut of her dress. There was a red, electric looking dot on the back of his hand. He moved his hand jerkily but the mark did not carry with his hand, instead it was deadest on Padmé’s heart.
Bail pushed her out of her chair just in the nick of time as several blaster bolts came rushing in, destroying parts of the veranda. They were both covering their heads as debris rained down on their bodies.
“Crawl inside!” Bail yelled. “Come on!”
He helped her back inside of the apartment and they stood away from any exposed windows. The sound of a droid entering the room was heard.
“R2, call…” Padmé started, but she didn’t know who to contact.
“Call the Jedi Temple,” Bail instructed the droid.
The droid whistled his understanding and went to a nearby wall jack and plugged in. Bail put his arm around Padmé’s shoulder to comfort her as they waited for any protection they could get.
**
Ahsoka Tano was using her time away from her master to try to gather materials to make him a life-day present. She had just under a week and any kind of suitable supplies were limited. She didn’t have her own money to go out on the streets and buy anything as the Jedi had no possessions, so that was out of the question. Still she was determined to give him something to show her gratitude for being the padawan of the most famous of Jedi Knights.
Of course she didn’t know how long they would even be at the Temple. She was sure they would be whisked away somewhere else within the next few days and of course another battle would ensue and then she would have no time to make him anything.
“Hmm…” She sighed. “I wonder if I cut down some curtains if I could make him a new cloak. Nah, I was never good at cloth working…”
She pressed on, her eyes taking in all the sights of the temple. She often got great ideas from visually scanning her surroundings. In battle this was a great asset to not only herself but her allies. She was trying to put it to use on this day but she was forced to admit that the temple was just lacking in every way.
“Maybe I could cook him something?” Ahsoka once again murmured to herself.
A voice from behind her said, “My stomach would not thank you for that.”
Ahsoka was startled into a small jump as she turned to face Anakin Skywalker.
“You are a lousy cook,” Anakin grinned.
“Am not,” Ahsoka said defensively. “You humans just have different tastes.”
“You say different, I say better,” Anakin chortled.
“So did you hear?” Ahsoka said. “That nasty senator from Naboo almost got killed last night.”
“What!?” Anakin blurted.
“Yeah, she was apparently in bed or something with that other senator from Alderaan. According to the holo they have been secretly dating and sleeping together, even before his wife died over a year ago.”
Anakin waved his hands, “I don’t need the details, Ahsoka, especially the misguided details of the holonews. What happened?”
“I was getting to that,” she said. “Well he noticed that she had a scope mark on her skin, right above her… Well I’m not surprised he would notice; typical man…”
“Ahsoka!” Anakin reprimanded.
“Anyway, he pushed her out of the way just before the blaster bolts destroyed the entire apartment. Apparently they had to put out a blazing fire and three other apartments had to be evacuated. That’s what the holonews is reporting anyway.” Ahsoka finished.
Anakin reached out with the Force to try to get a sense of who would want to assassinate one senator from Naboo when they could have just as easily took a shot at the Chancellor.
“Come on,” Anakin said, motioning her to follow him as he took long strides.
“Where are we going?”
As if she had to ask; they were going to see Obi-Wan.
**
As Ahsoka recounted the tale she had heard on the holonews, Obi-Wan nodded patiently. Every so often he would inspect his lightsaber for fingerprints or dust before placing it back on his utility belt.
“Okay, that’s enough.” Anakin said, cutting off Ahsoka when she started to go into the more gossip-like details of the story. “He already knows.”
“He does?” Ahsoka asked, looking baffled. “Why didn’t you stop me Master Kenobi?”
“Because he’s only rude to politicians.” Anakin pointed out. “So, how did you know? You’re not usually much for holonews first thing in the morning.”
“Council called me in first thing,” Obi-Wan explained. “They want the three of us to investigate more in-depth. They sent out a few Jedi last night, as well as some other officials but the Council feels a closer look is needed.”
Anakin nodded, “Good, I thought we were going to have nothing to do before we got sent off again.”
“My only question is, why Senator Amidala?” Obi-Wan stated.
Anakin nodded, as he had been thinking the same thing earlier.
“Isn’t it obvious,” Ahsoka said in her best conspiracy theory voice. “They weren’t going after her at all. They were going after Senator Organa. He probably owes the Hutts or someone like that a lot of credits and they don’t want to kill him, because a dead man can’t pay up. But if he was really intimate with Senator Amidala, then taking out someone he cares for would really show him they mean business and that he better pay up.”
“How many times have I told you to stay away from the holovids,” Anakin sighed.
“She might have a point though. It’s a little farfetched but I think when we question them about the events of last night we should get a clearer image of what their relationship is.” Obi-Wan said thoughtfully.
Anakin seemed to think about it for a minute before agreeing, “I suppose any and all information could be useful.”
Obi-Wan smiled but tried not to show it. Anakin stared daggers at him, all the while Ahsoka was taking in this scene.
“What is it? What’s the big joke?” Ahsoka asked.
Anakin did not take his eyes off Obi-Wan, “Nothing!”
“Master Kenobi?” Ahsoka said in her most pleading voice.
“Don’t do it,” Anakin warned. “This girl already has enough gossip to be getting on about.”
“Oh, now you have to tell me.” Ahsoka said excitedly.
“Anakin here,” Obi-Wan laughed. “Used to have a crush on the Senator.”
“You must mean Bail, because who would like her?” Ahsoka said, shock trickling from her voice.
“Oh no, Senator Amidala was with us when we first met Anakin as a child. He was quite taken with her.” Obi-Wan explained.
Anakin looked to the heavens as if to ask the Force why it was torturing him. Obi-Wan was bent over in laughter at the look on Ahsoka’s face.
“That
is
a juicy piece of gossip,” Ahsoka said, covering her mouth to suppress her laughter.
“That was over twenty years ago,” Anakin reminded them. “A childhood crush and besides, I’m a Jedi.”
“Let me guess,” Obi-Wan stated. “Jedi don’t get crushes?”
“This conversation is over; I’ll see you both when you are ready to do some work.” Anakin said before turning on his heel and exiting the room.
Ahsoka watched Anakin leave the room. She found it awfully hard to imagine Anakin Skywalker having a crush. That was such a humanoid trait to have and after seeing him in many battles, she was convinced Anakin was much more than a mere human… or
man
.
“Unfortunately,” Obi-Wan added as he stood at Ahsoka’s side. “It seems that every once in a while, even the best Jedi get crushes.”
Ahsoka’s stare shot to Obi-Wan’s face with this statement. Her eyes widened with embarrassment as he playfully winked at her and walked from the room, roaring with laughter.

Well, it looks like Ahsoka [i]really[i] doesn't like Padme, now does she?
That was funny when Obi-Wan dropped the bomb that Anakin had a crush on Padme.
I wonder what Obi-Wan's last comment meant...maybe Ahsoka has a crush on Anakin?
Great post!

Ok, I caught up and I want to be put on the PM list to this, it is excellent so far.
I know I am a bit biased, but I absolutely adore Obi-Wan in this, he was cracking me up the entire time with his sarcastic nature in the Senate hearing and the teasing of Anakin and Ahsoka. However, despite his sense of humor, he also shows great insight into what is going on around him.
Both Anakin and Ahsoka are going to be an interesting pair to watch when dealing with Senator Amidala and I cannot wait to ind out what happens next!
Once again, excellent job.

Who knew Obi-Wan could be so playful? That was the perfect comeback for nosy Ahsoka, though.
I loved how up to date on the current gossip she was. I guess all teenage girls are the same, even if they are Jedi.
I can't wait to see how Anakin and Padme will be around each other, especially with Bail in the picture
Great update

- There is a lot of humor thus far in the story but I'm afraid it won't last, it will get much more serious. Thanks for reading as always.
KELIA
- Yes, it will definitely be a different chemistry with Bail in the picture right now, but I'm going to take things sort of slow on that front but it will get their eventually. Lots of things are going to be happening all over the place. I fret to think how long this story could actually be.

if you want to be added, you can just PM me if you don't want to leave a public reply or just reply here, either way. Thanks for reading. Already have the next chapter in my head, just need to get it down.

Chapter 3
Has it really been 5 days since I last updated? Wow, it really doesn't seem like it. How I used to manage updates everyday I'll never know. Wow... five days?? Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
Chapter 3
Investigating the Crime Scene
The night was full of gloom and cold, as Asajj Ventress stood alone looking out from the highest window of a once glamorous castle. She had felt the presence of her instructor ever since he had arrived on the planet. She could feel him coming ever closer to her at that very moment. Just as she felt him, she knew he could feel her and knew exactly where she was. So she waited, her patience wearing thin…
Asajj was ready for their next move, but she dared not voice her complaints to her master. The last time she had done that, he had taught the foolish disciple a lesson she would never forget. She was not yet that strong, but perhaps one day. Their next key move was very close, and she was going to be the centerpiece. She truly believed that when the plan was set into full force, she would face Anakin Skywalker and his talentless apprentice for the last time.
A small glimmer of light broke through the darkness of the room as the old-fashioned wooden door crept open. Ventress turned on her heel and fell to one knee in one fluid motion. Her head was bowed in respect as Darth Tyrannus entered.
“Brooding the night away, I see.” Tyrannus noted in his superior, sophisticated tone. “While I am pleased that you are allowing your anger to become a tool for you, I would dare say that your evenings could be spent in more useful ways.”
Ventress’ head did not move from his bowed position as she answered, “Brooding I am, my Lord. But forgive me, as I have nothing else to do until I receive further instruction.”
What could only be described as a smile, flinted over Tyrannus’ bearded face. He took a few steps closer to his student and then rounded on her, circling her, taking in her Force presence.
“But why else would I come here, my apprentice?” Tyrannus asked rhetorically. “But of course you must feel that I have come to bring you the news you have been craving. For you have thirsted for retribution, for quite some time; after all you were humiliated by him last time.”
Ventress remained completely still, at least physically. Tyrannus was pushing her buttons and while she knew this, she couldn’t help but become incensed by his words. The dark side surged through her as Tyrannus had never felt before. Brooding indeed; she had been seething for months to have another opportunity at Skywalker after only just surviving their prior encounter.
“Of course you came back to Lord Sidious and me, licking your wounds like a helpless beast. Of course we helped you; we know your potential. Just as I understand your potential, I understand your frustration and your need to prove yourself to us by killing Skywalker and swaying the war into our favor, once and for all.” Tyrannus carried on.
“Yes, Lord Tyrannus.” Asajj simply offered, as she knew his abuse was not over.
“How you survived,” Tyrannus laughed under his breath. “We were most impressed with that, I will concede. It showed your hatred and your resiliency. You may yet be worthy to defeat the Council’s so-called chosen one. That all remains to be seen of course…”
“The news,” Ventress said with a hint of desperation in her voice.
“While your impatience heeds your anger, that is not a virtue that Lord Sidious holds in high regard. You must learn to draw your hatred from other means, young Ventress. Nonetheless, you will travel to the planet from which Qui-Gon Jinn rescued Anakin Skywalker from as a small child; a planet that Lord Sidious believes the man fears and dreads. He will be at his most vulnerable there and you shall take a legion of our best battle droids there to seize the planet for the Separatists. “ Tyrannus instructed.
“Tatoonie?” Ventress said, her head shooting up to look at Tyrannus. “But Master, that planet is controlled by the Hutt’s, is it not?”
It was obvious that Asajj Ventress had done her homework on Anakin Skywalker. Her time had not only been spent brooding in front of drafty windows.
“All the easier it will be to take the planet,” Tyrannus said, his voice emotionless. “Being under Hutt control, there will be no Republic forces stationed anywhere. The Hutt’s and their witless bounty hunters should be no match for an assassin and leader, such as yourself. The Jedi will send Skywalker to the planet, knowing they cannot lose another system to our cause. They will deem it justifiable to send Skywalker as he would know the planet better than anyone else in their order.”
“Yes, my Master.” Ventress said. Her voice was calm and collected; the dark aura that swirled around her was anything but…
**
Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka stood in a lift going up to the middle level of 500 Republica. 500 Republica was a large and luxurious apartment complex in which many senators and other high ranking officials lived at, as their home away from home.
“So I was thinking,” Ahsoka said, breaking the silence. “If we want to know the two senators relationship, it might be better if I ask her. I don’t think Amidala will take too kindly to a bunch of men poking around about her love life.”
Anakin had to stop himself from rolling his eyes, “Yes and I’m sure that she will be much more receptive to telling a teenage girl the going-ons of her bed room.”
“Best chance we have,” Obi-Wan countered. “It probably won’t be important in the end, but if the target was Bail Organa, we need to know everything.”
Anakin didn’t offer any rebuttal as the lift came to its destination and the doors opened to let them out. They walked down to the end of the hall where an astromech droid was standing guard outside.
“Hello there,” Obi-Wan said. “Can you please inform Senator Amidala that the Jedi investigators have arrived?”
The little droid looked him up and down, whistling something but to itself. The droid then shook his head violently
‘no’
and did a little spin on his wheels, if that was supposed to scare them away.
“Artoo?” Anakin asked, hesitantly. “Artoo-Deetoo?”
The little droid stopped and looked at them again.
“I’m Anakin Skywalker, do you remember me or have they wiped your memory in the last twenty years?”
The droid whistled and beeped, but more happily this time. The droid turned towards the door and a small robotic arm shot out of its middle and it inserted the arm into a terminal and the door to the apartment opened.
Artoo-Deetoo led them into apartment and they immediately noticed the respectable amount of damaged to the veranda and the glass still lying on the carpeted floor.
“Doesn’t look like it burnt down three apartments to me,” Anakin said, pointedly as Ahsoka.
“That’s just what the holo said.” Ahsoka retorted defensively.
A voice called out from behind them, “Well you shouldn’t believe everything you here on the news.”
Padmé Amidala, the senator from Naboo had entered the room. She wore a dark, purple dress and her hair looked deceivingly short because of the way she wore it today.
“I’ve been telling her that for four years,” Anakin said but did not make eye contact.
Instead Anakin rounded towards the balcony and began to take in the scene more closely.
“Senator Amidala,” Obi-Wan bowed. “A pleasure, as always.”
“Indeed,” Padmé replied, still remembering the last deposition hearing.
“This is Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s apprentice as you might remember.” Obi-Wan introduced.
“Charming,” Padmé glared at her. “Can we make this quick, I would like my apartment to be repaired before I go out this evening.”
“We don’t want to be here anymore than you want us here,”
Anakin murmured under his breath.
“Excuse me,” Padmé asked, coming closer to the balcony, where Anakin was crouched down and inspecting.
Anakin stood up, not answering nor looking at the Senator. He had a few small fragments of broken glass in his hand. He opened his palm so that Obi-Wan could have a look.
“What do you make of it?” Obi-Wan asked, knowing this was more of Anakin’s specialty.
“DXR-6 disruptor rifle… probably with a zoom scope… if I had to guess,” Anakin answered.
Padmé looked astonished as she walked up to take a look for herself.
“How can you tell?” Padmé said, staring at the glass.
Padmé Amidala had been trained in many ways of self-defense when she was originally preparing to be a handmaiden on Naboo. She had no idea however, how he could tell what kind of weapon had been used by a few shards of glass.
“It’s the way the glass is cut and shattered,” Anakin simply said. “Easy enough to identify.”
“If you say so,” Padmé said, taking one last look at the glass before turning away.
Obi-Wan cleared his throat, “Senator Amidala, it is our understanding that Senator Organa was here last night when it happened. We’d like to get your account as well as his. May we speak to him?”
Padmé shrugged, “I suppose you could. I imagine he is working at the moment however.”
“You don’t know?” Ahsoka spoke up.
Padmé glared at the young padawan, “And why should I know where Senator Organa is at every moment? I suppose you are still taking the holonews for every word?”
Ahsoka blushed as much as her Togruta skin would allow her. She quickly joined Anakin by the balcony and pretended to be inspecting the glass.
“Do you know anyone besides Nute Gunray who would like to see you dead?” Obi-Wan asked.
“I’m sure a lot of people would like to see any senator dead,” Padmé shrugged.
“A mute senator would be fine by me,”
Ahsoka whispered to Anakin so only he could hear.
“What about Senator Organa? Does he have any enemies that he would have told you about?” Obi-Wan asked, knowing this line of questioning would get him nowhere.
“The same enemies as I would have, I assume.” Padmé said shortly.
Anakin rounded on Obi-Wan, “I’m fairly certain what type of weapon was used. There isn’t much more physical evidence we can gather from the apartment.”
“I agree,” Obi-Wan said.
“Senator Amidala,” Anakin said, looking at her for the first time. “We will have our best troop’s search any physical vantage point the assassin could have fired from. Perhaps they left something behind that will give us a clue.”
Anakin did not wait for her answer before turning on his heel and making his way towards the door. However, Obi-Wan stood in place.
“You said you were going out this evening, Senator?” Obi-Wan asked.
“I am,” Padmé said, irritation rising in her voice.
“May I ask where and with whom? It might be prudent for a Jedi or two to stay close to you for the next few days. Of course we would be out of the way as to not draw attention to ourselves. Perhaps if the assassin makes another attempt we could arrest them.” Obi-Wan explained.
“Use me as bait, Master Jedi? As it were, I don’t think that’s necessary,” she said. “I have my own security team.”
“No offense, Senator but you are bait whether you have Jedi around or not and where was your security when this attack happened?” Obi-Wan retorted.
It was Padmé’s turn to blush but she didn’t, “I was having a private moment with Senator Organa and asked them to step outside. It has been quite some time since an attempt on my life has been made so I felt it was safe to do so.”
“Private moment?” Ahsoka had found the courage to speak up.
“A drink!” Padmé admonished her. “We were having a drink as friends and colleagues if you must know.”
“Ahsoka!” Anakin said sternly. “Wait outside.”
Ahsoka dared not argue with Anakin when his tone reached a certain level and it just had. She quietly left the apartment.
“Senator Organa asked if he could escort me to a formal function tonight. I agreed to go and as I’m not dead by the actions of last night, I don’t feel the need to cancel on him.” Padmé explained. “But I assure you, there will be plenty of security.”
Obi-Wan nodded and left it alone, “Very well Senator. You can have the construction crew come and fix this mess now.”
Padmé nodded professionally at Obi-Wan and the Jedi knew that was their cue.
“Good day,” Anakin and Obi-Wan said as they turned to leave and join Ahsoka.
As they walked back towards the lift Anakin spoke up, “You sure gave up easy on that.”
“Well, she is right.” Obi-Wan said. “There will be plenty of security.”
“You are actually agreeing with a politician?” Ahsoka said, mock astonishment in her voice.
Anakin had to once again fight the urge to roll his eyes.
“Of course there is going to be plenty of security there tonight. We are going to be there.” Anakin explained.
Ahsoka cringed at the thought of being around so many overdressed and stiff senator types, as the three of them boarded the lift to bring them back to their speeder.

Oh man I really hope that Padme isn't going to fall for Bail in this.
There's something about that pairing that gives me the creeps.
Gotta love Ahsoka questioning everything Padme said. That reminded me of a young Anakin.

I found it interesting that Anakin rarely looks at Padme when they are near. It isn't that he should be paying that close of attention to her, but he seems to be avoiding her. Interesting to see that play out. I'm sure something is going to happen at this event that is going to warrant the extra security of the Jedi.
And I wonder what our Sithly friends have planned on Tatooine?
Great update.
Oh, and 5 days? You remember when I used to post everyday, sometimes twice a day. Now we are lucky if it is once every week.

Oh I really like the interaction between all the principles here. Ahsoka reminds me of a teenaged Anakin...a bit whiny and impulsive. And the icyness between Amidala and Anakin? I would like to be there when it comes to a head, so please add me to your pm list. Obi Wan is his usual stalwart Jedi self. I love it, almost like a soap! More Ovaltine please!!!
