Wow, I like this AU. It's a nice combo of dark and light. It's a bit more realistic that some of the AUs out there where Mace kills Palpy, the order accepts Anakin's marriage, and life goes on happily ever after (not that those aren't good, don't get me wrong - this is just closer to cannon possibilities.) I'm intrested to see how this "new" order is gonna work out. Add me to the PM list please?

Yoda has arrived and Anakin's relationship is OK with the Jedi for now.
Problems might happen once Padme's ready to give birth, though.

Great post! I could have reached over and strangled Ferus! And Mon Motha.....nooooooooooo, she can't be dead....:( she's one of the leaders, Palpatine must have known what an impact that would be on the Jedi and any future rebellion. I've got to say that I'm really proud of Anakin for standing up and admiting his and Padme's relationship. Why do I think that Yoda wasn't surprised? I hope Ferus Olin doesn't do anything to sabotage everything. He seems the type. Anyway....great job as always and I am waiting waiting waiting for the next post!!!!

Mon Mothma dead and killed by a lightsaber. Arrghh! The jedi will be blamed when it was a Sith. How unjust, and you just know that Palpatine will use to stir up trouble for any surviving Jedi. I'm so glad that they have an ally in Organa.

Chapter 9
“You have a plan to defeat the Chancellor?” Ferus didn’t bother to conceal his disbelief. “If the Jedi failed, what hope could you possibly have?”
“I’m referring to thwarting his efforts behind the scenes and exposing him to the Galaxy,” Bail replied in a tight voice. He had never met this brash Jedi before, but he got the sense the young man was on the verge of crossing the line by the irritated expressions on the other Jedi’s faces. “And it’s Emperor Palpatine now.”
“Emperor!”
Gasps of shock echoed throughout the room.
Bail held up his hands, calling for quiet. “Shortly after…the clones turned, Palpatine held an emergency Senate session in which he played a doctored recording making it appear as if Master Windu attempted to assassinate him in cold blood,” he paused allowing his words to sink in.
“He told the Senate the Jedi had attempted to take over the Republic and for that treason, you are all considered criminals to be hunted and…brought to justice.”
“Was everyone so quick to believe his lies?” Barriss Offee asked, her eyes filled with sorrow.
Bail sighed. “Unfortunately many in the Senate as well as the Galaxy have had their doubts about the Jedi over the years,” he replied somberly. “And when the recording was played…,” he shrugged, his words trailing off.
“It wasn’t enough to try and exterminate us,” Barriss exclaimed in horror. “He had to discredit us as well.”
“Knew we were his greatest threat Palpatine did,” Yoda offered. “By discrediting the entire order, keep the Jedi from returning he hopes to do.”
The room was plunged into stunned silence as everyone thought about the repercussions for the Jedi this would have for years to come. It was nothing short of disheartening.
“What is this plan you have?” Obi-Wan asked after several minutes, his tone skeptical.
Bail straightened before answering. “A coalition of Senators, including myself and…,” his eyes flickered to Padmé’s for a moment. “My closest allies have joined together to oppose and ultimately end Palpatine’s reign as Emperor.”
Anakin bit back his surprise as he turned to Padmé. “You…you agreed to this beforehand?”
Padmé bit her lip, silently offering a prayer to the gods to give her the right words to speak so Anakin would understand. She had meant to explain everything the night before but he’d been so drained when he returned from the healer’s ward, she decided to wait until morning but Yoda’s arrival had changed that.
“Yes,” she breathed.
“Do you think openly opposing the Chan…Emperor, who I might add, happens to be a Sith Lord, will do you any good?” Obi-Wan’s voice was tinged with worry. “I doubt you’ll be prepared for his way of dealing with opposition.”
“How long?” Anakin demanded in a hushed tone.
“Ani -,”
“How long did you know about Palpatine without telling me?”
“I didn’t know anything for sure,” Padmé answered, hoping no one else was paying attention to their frantic whispers. “I just suspected.”
“Very little of our activities will be done in the Senate,” Bail explained. “We also have allies around the Galaxy who have pledged their support in doing whatever it takes to defeat the new Emperor.”
“You agreed to oppose him without knowing for sure?” Anakin hissed, his eyes narrowing with anger. “Padmé, how could you?”
“I was right, wasn’t I?” she countered, her cheeks flushing.
Yoda cleared his throat, tapping his gimer stick. “Alone you can not hope to succeed,” he began, casting a sideways glance at Bail.
“We won’t be alone -,”
Yoda held up a clawed hand, silencing Bail immediately. His eyes swept over the Jedi gathered around the table. “If agree we all do, join the Senator’s alliance the Jedi Order will,” he decreed.
The vote was unanimous and took less than a minute.
“We are honored to welcome the Jedi into the Rebel Alliance,” Bail announced proudly.

News of Mon Mothma’s murder spread quickly throughout the Senate and on the holo net. Rumors of Jedi involvement were rampant and easily accepted as truth. Very quickly everyone’s opinion, even those who personally encountered Jedi, easily believed that they committed the murder. In their minds, who else but Jedi would easily be able to kill her without being caught.
Fang Zar hastily arranged a meeting with his core allies, Senators Danu, Male-Dee, Taneel and Eekway to discuss their next move.
“Bail didn’t mention where he was going or when he would be back?” Giddean Danu leaned back in his chair, a perplexed look on his face.
“No,” Zar shook his head. “He would only tell me his sudden trip was vital to our ultimate goal.”
“How can that be?” Male-Dee asked. “We’ve already established all the allies willing to help us at this time, unless…,” he paused, his eyes narrowing, “it’s possible we may lose some of those allies in the wake of all that has happened.”
“I doubt that,” Zar replied with a dismissive wave of his hand. “Our allies are as committed to overthrowing Palpatine as we are. The recent events should only strengthen their resolve, besides,” he paused, inhaling deeply. “We have to focus all our energies on regrouping now that our leader -,” his voice broke as tears slid down his cheeks.
“I think Senator Organa is the best choice to take over,” Terr Taneel offered in a somber tone.
“I agree,” Far replied, wiping away his tears. “Assuming he will accept the position, we now need to concentrate on our first order of business.”
“Which would be what?” Eekway asked. “We can’t very well present Palpatine with our petition asking him to step down now.”
The others nodded.
“True,” Zar answered with a sigh. “Instead, we can turn our attention to two things. First, I’d like to uncover the truth about Mon Mothma’s murder. She was a good friend to the Jedi and I know she wouldn’t want them to be blamed.”
“It’s too bad we don’t have a Jedi to help us investigate,” Danu observed.
“I’m sure we can uncover the truth without them,” Zar replied. “I’ll volunteer my services to the security team and see if I can uncover anything before it’s destroyed.”
“Be careful,” Taneel warned. “Palpatine has to know not all of us will accept the Jedi’s involvement in the murder. He’ll be watching you very closely.”
“I plan to,” Zar promised. “While I’m doing that, I’d like the rest of you to feel out our colleagues. See if the recent events have opened any eyes to Palpatine’s true nature.
We’re going to need all the extra help we can get now.”

Good morning to you, although it is 10pm here in my part of the world, and I am going to bed good night.

This is so much better than hiding on tatooine, joining the rebels is a brilliant
stroke of genius

LOL I adored Anakin and Padme arguing in whispers behind the discussion on how to oppose Palpatine, such a nice touch to add drama to the proceedings.

Come on Anakin, your wife is an intuitive woman , give her some credit for being right. If anything, YOU should be embarrassed for not seeing through Palpy’s lies earlier.
