Ascal_Elessar:Really enjoying this story so far, can I be added to the PM list?
We're thrilled you're enjoying our story, and we would be happy to add you to the list.
DarthGimpy:Great job so far. I wonder what Palpatine's feelings are about not getting his apprentice as planned?
Thank you! Yes, Palpatine is definitely not happy about how things have turned out.

Chapter 5
Anakin slowly made his way down the landing ramp, his arm protectively around Padmé. The transports had all landed in a large area just outside a dense forest, lining up neatly, one behind the other in several rows, leaving plenty of room for more ships.
He stopped short at the end of the ramp as his eyes landed on the massive rocky peaks before him. There, perched halfway up the tallest spire was a circular structure intricately carved into the stone.
‘Had Yoda been expecting the Jedi to go into hiding all along?’
He heard Padmé gasp and squeezed her reassuringly.
“Knight Skywalker,” Jocasta Nu rushed up to him . “How is Master Windu?”
“Stable,” Anakin replied, shifting his gaze to her worried expression. “Um…is there…is there somewhere we can move him?”
“Yes,” Jocasta nodded with an amused smile. “You’ll find an entrance to the spire a few yards from here,” she pointed to a small cave. “The healers have already begun setting up…,” her words trailed off as a pained expression flashed across her face.
“Force willing, they’ll only have one patient today.”
“I’ll go back and -,”
“That’s quite all right,” Jocasta interrupted. She turned and waved over four initiates. “We’ll bring him to the healers. If you wouldn’t mind,” she smiled at Padmé. “Master Yaddle is in need of assistance with the younglings.”
“I’d be happy to help,” Padmé replied.
“Good, I’ll take you to her. Knight Skywalker,” Jocasta turned her attention to him, her tone sobering. “We could use your help unloading what supplies we have.” Her gaze traveled across the rows of ships. “And coordinating the landings for the Jedi…who will be joining us.”
Anakin nodded silently. He knew Jocasta was as worried as he was about what was happening across the Galaxy. With the Clone army bold enough to attack the Temple, only the Force knew what was happening to the deployed Jedi. And it wasn’t relying that information to him.
“I’ll see you soon,” he whispered, kissing Padmé gently on the cheek.
“I love you,” she murmured, giving him a quick hug before joining Jocasta.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Anakin worked silently and steadily for the next couple of hours before he heard the familiar sounds of an incoming ship. His eyes scanned the horizon as he reached for his comm. One thing was for sure, with a loose Sith Lord one couldn’t be too careful.
“Artoo, do you have readout on the approaching ship?”
He walked towards the transport Artoo was in while he waited for the droid’s response. He froze when he heard an excited whistle followed by a lengthy series of bleeps.
“Master Anakin, its Master Obi-Wan!” Thereepio’s animated voice cried over the comm.
“Thank the Force.” Relief washed over Anakin as the ship came into view. Obi-Wan had made it!
He watched quietly as Obi-Wan landed before rushing over to the ship.
“Master!” Anakin’s enthusiasm quickly died as he watched Obi-Wan slowly rise from the cockpit. His tunic singed and torn, exhaustion and worry etched on his normally calm face.
“Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine,” Obi-Wan replied, dropping to the ground. “Who...who all is here?” he asked, his eyes taking in every detail of his surroundings.
“You’re the first…of the deployed Jedi to arrive,” Anakin breathed. “Everyone at the temple was evacuated before the Clones attacked.”
“Attacked?” Obi-Wan’s head whipped around. “They attacked the Temple?”
Anakin nodded sadly.
Obi-Wan inhaled deeply, his shoulders slumping. “I shouldn’t be surprised,” he sighed wearily. “My troops turned on me and Si…Master Tachi.”
“I was hoping she’d be here.”
“We haven’t heard anything,” Anakin began. “But that doesn’t mean she won’t…I mean she’s probably on her way.”
Obi-Wan didn’t reply and Anakin couldn’t read his expression. His old Master was very good at covering his emotions.
“We’re expecting more Jedi to arrive,” Anakin added in a soft tone. “I sent the retreat order just as Master Yoda instructed.”
“I heard it,” Obi-Wan nodded. Gazing directly into Anakin’s eyes, he added, “I’m proud of you, Anakin.”
“I…I have to talk…to explain something to you, Master,” Anakin hesitated. Now was hardly the time but he wanted Obi-Wan to hear about Padmé and the baby from him first.
“We can talk later,” Obi-Wan answered. “Right now we have a lot of work to do. Fill me in on what’s happened and where I can be of most help.”
“You should rest -,”
“I’m fine, Anakin,” Obi-Wan replied firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument. “And I need to work.”
Anakin studied his former Master silently. Obi-Wan looked as if he would fall over any minute but Anakin understood his need to do something. He also understood Obi-Wan’s worry over Master Tachi. The two had always been close, he suspected closer than either would admit to, and he knew work would be the only thing keeping Obi-Wan from going crazy with worry.
“Okay.” Clamping his arm around Obi-Wan’s shoulders, he led him towards the transports that needed to be unloaded.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A slow stream of surviving Jedi arrived over the next few hours. Obi-Wan and Anakin kept silent vigil, greeting each new arrival. They were horrified by the news of each narrow escape and saddened by the news of those who were cut down without warning.
As darkness arrived, the last of the supplies had been unloaded and most of the Jedi retired for whatever sleep they could get. Anakin stood beside Obi-Wan in the mouth of the cave, both gazing at the empty sky.
“She may just be delayed,” Anakin offered, pushing away the doubt.
“Perhaps.”
“You should try and get some rest. I’ll keep watching.”
Obi-Wan shook his head. “I can handle -,”
“Master Anakin! Master Anakin!” Threepio’s frantic voice cut through the air as he rushed towards them, Artoo right behind him.
Obi-Wan’s heart began to pound with hope.
“We’ve just received word from Master Yoda! He’s on his way with -,” Artoo bumped rudely into his legs. “Yes, I was just getting to that,” Thereepio sniffed indignantly.
Obi-Wan bit back his disappointment.
“Master Yoda said - ,” his words were cut off by the sound of a ship’s engines.
“Here he is now,” Obi-Wan observed dryly.
“Uh Master,” Anakin squinted into the distance. “That’s an orbital shuttle.”
They exchanged worried glances.
“What the clones use.”

Lovely imagery here. In fact that whole section was a wonderful introduction to the grief and worry of the Jedi.
Which leads me to Obi-Wan.

I love Artoo! I just had to say that! LOL

I know this is a long extract, but I loved this bit. You have such fabulous grasp of the characters and their voices. I bolded the last because it struck me the most.
“Uh Master,” Anakin squinted into the distance. “That’s an orbital shuttle.”
They exchanged worried glances.
“What the clones use.”
Oh dear! This doesn’t sound good!!!! *gulp* I need to know what happens. More soon please!

Oh goodness, I have a very bad feeling about this. I do hope they only stole a ship to get to the planet. It will be interesting to see what Obi-Wan has to say about Anakin and Padme once they have time to actually sit and talk.

Poor Obi-Wan!
Hang in there, mate! And don't go all stoic like that. Let all the people who love you be there for you! A hug never hurt anyone.
Great story telling, as always.

When Anakin asked Artoo for the readout on the first ship I was thinking, oh man! it's palpatine or someone evil! ...but it was our dear Obi-wan. And then second ship came and I thought it would be friendly too, but, alas! I was surprised. A clone ship! I feel doom is on its way.
Way to keep me captivated! Great work!
