Tych_sel posted:And now having read of Mara's vision, let me say that you handled it wonderfully. Not only did you let Mara see what Luke might become, you let her mind bring up all the fears she's been keeping hidden under the surface. In a way, it reminded me a lot of the visions Exar Kun used in order to try and twist Corran Horn to the Dark Side in I, Jedi. It's too bad that the cave didn't offer the possibility of Luke stepping in, but then again, this was something Mara had to face. Let's just hope that she doesn't draw the wrong conclusion, but rather that she keeps in mind that all of what she saw came from the Dark Side.
walker-of-minds posted:Poor Mara, I'm glad Luke was there to hold on to comfort her. Hopefully she will learn quickly that he will not hate her and already believes in her- will be there for her. She has to see what is possible once she takes the risk to believe she deserves more and can make the better choice-love. I loved the imagery of Mara facing her fears in the cave and that she didn't take the weapons in. I wonder how she will explain her raction to him though hmmm.
ginchy posted:I really love your Mara in this--conflicted in a way I don't think I've seen "Hand" Mara written before. And I love Luke's talk with Obi-Wan--a bit more information this time around, which I love.
DaenaBenjen42 posted:Wow... now that's a way to start a chapter. Liked that. And what of Skywalker - what would he think when he found out, as ultimately he must, of her true allegiances? Would he hate her? Has she forgotten that kiss already? Somehow, I don't think he'd hate her. Want to talk it out, sure, understand why she has the allegiances she does, yes, but hate? No.

TorontoJediMaster posted:I had a thought about the Tuskens. I wonder if Obi-Wan found himself having to face Tuskens who thought that going after him (since he had a lightsaber and may well have even thought he was Anakin) was some sort of ultimate challenge or test? He probably was regarded as some sort of legend. Every Tuskan warrior who wanted to prove something would try and take him on.
TorontoJediMaster posted:BTW, Mara has a purple lightsaber in this, correct? By any chance, is it Mace Windu's old saber? Palpatine wouldn't hand Mara learning too many skills -like saber construction. Thus it would fit for him to give her Mace's saber which was left in his office on Coruscant. Speaking of sabers, Luke's first lightsaber (Anakin's old one) won't be appearing here, will it? I know that it was recovered from Bespin and eventually found its way to the mantle in Luke's home.
TorontoJediMaster posted:I've seen pictures of Daneel Harris. I admit she could fit the part. However, I think Kerry Condon brings a certain something to the role that others can't match.
TorontoJediMaster posted:One last question. As Mara is teaching Luke some of the classic lightsaber styles, which style do you think that they would each favour? I think Mara, with her temperment, would be more of Djem-So but primarily Vaapad. Luke would be about an even mix of Djem-So (Anakin's preferred style) and Soresu (which Obi-Was was THE master of).

sethsky posted:You have a fantastic story going on, AU's that take place during the Saga like your story are my favorites. They take the established characters and develop them further, giving them more layers, how a small different choice taken can change so much. It is one of the reasons why i find fanfiction in the StarWars-verse one of the best. I look forward to more of your story.
sethsky posted:About the lightsaber-styles, you are correct Vaapad was developed by Mace, it was based on the "forgetten" sith-style Juyo. But Vaapad also had a huge danger with the use of it, pretty much all the students of Mace fell to the darkside because of their use of it, you walk a fine line between the dark and light, it's a dark style used for light. Luke in the EU eventuelly masters all the seven styles including Vaapad. What we see in the movies, is that Luke had very little saber-training, and most of it came from Yoda. But one of Luke's best talents is his amazing ability to learn, he does what a normal jedi would take a long time to master in a much shorter time. By ROTJ he's the superior to Vader.
sethsky posted:About Mara, i would agree that Sidious hasn't thaught her anything really usefull in the force. You can learn to battle with weapons and a lightsaber but the jedi's and Sith use the force as the main-guide in their fights. For example Grievious was thaught by Dooku in the jedi-arts and he had 4 lightsabers in his battle against Obi-wan, yet Obi absolutly dominated the fight in lightsaber combat, that's because Grievous can't touch the force.
ttestagr posted:What about Allegiance? That pretty much shows that Mara has basic force manipulation down even at the beginning of her career. It's a Zahn book too, so it might not be something you'd want to ignore out of hand. Zahn really is the only person who wrote Mara well in the entire EU.
