	About the "when out numbered, attack" thing from the book... There's a reason I can't watch that scene in ROTJ anymore, and you saw part of it. Tendency to comment when hyper. (Not that I don't like that scene, because I do, and you did it very, very well.) Now then... about this update... Loved it, right down to the explanation for why Luke got the upper hand against the barge guards. And Mara... wonderfully in character. Well done. -----signature----- "Say it with me now. Postcard. 	Thank you for adding me to the PM list! I like how you handled Mara not killing Luke and them getting off of the barge. The way you wrote Mara's thoughts in relation to Palpatine and Luke was well done and it was very congruent with her character and how she would view things. It is interesting to find that she believes Luke to be "completely ruthless" and that belief was based on not only what she saw on the sail barge but on files about him. I wonder what those files said that lead her to believe him to be ruthless... Great update! I can't wait to see how things go once the time comes to leave Tatooine, will Mara be going with Luke or Leia, Han, n' co., or maybe on her own? 	Amazing, brilliant characterizations. I could just imagine Luke's every turn of emotion as he fought on the barge and as he spoke with "Arica." Mara's conflicted feelings are getting stronger all the time. This is superbly written--and it feels "right." 	It's official - as of July 2, I am back in school, albeit on a part time basis and for the time being, as an open student. My summer schedule is pretty full - Monday through Thursday afternoons and I will have to make up the time away from work in the evenings, so I will be pretty busy. Thus, I am trying to get as much of this done in advance, but sadly there is no way it will be complete in June. However, I do promise to keep working on it as time permits and hopefully complete before the end of summer. My beta already has chapter 4 (I completed it before chapter 3 was released) so I hope to get it back and posted by tomorrow or Tuesday at the very latest. And now, on to the replies: Jade_Pilot: Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I hope this will be something new that no one has really touched on; at least, the research I did before I tackled this lead me to believe it had not been done in quite this way. ccp: Confusion all around! It seems to me they are both treading in uncharted territory with their reactions to each other, not to mention the connection, and for them to be a little confused is natural. Look for the snark to make its way into their relationship once they get to know one another better... Jaina_and_Jag: Does that mean she can't go back to the Emperor now?? Well, we'll just have to see. I guess it depends on how much the Emperor knows of what is going on and how well she can lie... Rigil_Kent: There is a reason why her instincts are overpowering her conditioning. As for Luke buying her story... well, let's just say he's trusting - he's not stupid. However, he is also counting on the guidance from the Force and given the fact that he has not felt any danger from her as of yet, it muddies the waters a little... nabooqueen2008: Mara is a very interesting character! In fact, she is one of my top five favorite heroines in all of literature. I'm glad you think the portrayal is on target. DaenaBenjen42: Thanks! Contrary to what some authors (who will remain unmentioned) believe, I have always thought that a Jedi, fully trained in the ways of the Force, was more than a match for almost any non-Force user, generally no matter how skilled that person might be. Remember the whole seeing things before they happen angle - a huge advantage. It is also worth it to note Jabba's thugs, although certainly not unskilled, are not professional soldiers. Hence my contention that they are really no match for him. walker-of-minds: Thanks for joining the party! I appreciate your comments and agree - I am certainly not a fan of most profic after TTT (or before for that matter). jedi-enigma: No problem, thanks for the request! As for them getting off the barge, I was originally had this vague idea of Luke swinging across twice, once with each of the women, but then I realized that Mara at this point would never allow it, under any circumstances - she can take care of herself, she doesn't trust him and she's not really the touchy-feely type anyway. On her belief in Luke's ruthlessness, the only thing she really knows about him is what she has learned from the Emperor. I have always thought the Emperor would use misinformation as a way to control her and ensure she did his bidding, nothing too overt, but subtle - almost a form of brainwashing if you will. In my opinion he is very aware of the fact that Mara is not and never will be a person he can dominate and corrupt the way he has Vader - her innate sense of right simply would not allow it. So, he has to resort to a little trickery, make the target seem like an evil threat, play to her sense of what is moral and upright. That is how he controlled her in my opinion. Of course, there may have been a certain judicious use of the Force to try and suppress her goodness... And the way Luke scythed through Jabba's minions would do anything but contradict what she would have read in her files. dancing_star: What will Mara do? I guess we will just have to wait and see... BTW, I am almost ready to post a response to one of your Luke/Han challenges. Should be up in a couple of days! Jade_eyes: Thank you... one of the major things I have been concerned with was the characterizations - I'm glad everyone seems to think they are in character. 	Hey Emeritus. Well, it's official - I'm jealous as Sith. I WISH I could write this well. Maybe one day... I love the way you're developing Mara and Luke's relationship here. The thing that really makes me laugh is that it seems like every time she decides to end it and get away from him, the hole she's digging for herself gets a bit deeper. I must admit, knowing what pace to take their relationship is a bit of a struggle - you don't want them head over heels right off the bat (that is so cliché), but on the other hand if it's too slow, then it appears rushed at the end. 	I love the way you are telling ths story. I do not think that Mara would of ever of been able to rip Luke's lightsaber out of his grasp because I was always under the impression that Palpatine limited her Force training so he could always maintain control over her.
