ZaraValinor I find it very interesting that Xan is of two minds about Obi-Wan joining them. He is sure he will do well, but at the same time he think that Obi-Wan is above it.
Xanatos knows Obi-Wan has the skill to make it as a Bedim, but he also feels his padawan brother is too good for the group. As many older brothers, Xan is just trying to look out for Obi-Wan.

Xan is my favorite next to Obi-Wan. I first became interested in him when I read one of obi_ew’s stories. She took a wonderful character and brought him life, giving him more depth than Jude Watson ever could.
dianethx I have to wonder what the old troll is up to. After all, I think Xan is right. Obi-Wan is above it really and should never have joined. Probably would not have if things had been different between Obi and Qui.
Obi’s current relationship (or lack of) with Qui is a reason, but he also can’t help but wonder what he can do on his own outside of Qui-Gon’s influence. He wants to spread his wings and really find out what he’s capable of and yet unconsciously knows he has a safety net with Xan there.

Itachi-Uchiha ooooo! How have I missed this gem? I love the idea of the Council organizing a group like the Bedim. It would explain Jedi such as Vos. And Xan would certainly fit right in. Hope to see more of this soon. Maybe some flashbacks to Obi's Bedim training under Xan? Please PM me when you update.

I love it, it was very interesting and the council and Yoda are more manipulative than ever! Seen Xan was a great bonus! And it gave more insight on how they operate... the Bedim does seem like a good place but a dangerous one for knights with dark tendencies...
what made them recruit Obi that being said is something i wonder... and I gather so does Xan.

I’m sorry for the delay! Life has been hectic. I have three fics going; I have two updated now, one more to go.
p_stotts I just found this and find it very intriguing. I like that Qui and Obi are at odds and will have to work the regain their once close relationship. At least both are willing to try. I'm also glad to see that Xan isn't the bad guy in this. I always have had a soft spot for that rogue. He just had to find his niche. Great job! I hope you update soon.

Author’s Note: I apologize for the delay. Real life has reared its ugly head in the form of a new school year. It’s been quite busy now that classes have started again; it’s been rather time consuming trying to make sure the instructors have everything they need and the new projects coming my way are not helping. Not to mention I start my own class on Saturday. I finally decided that enough was enough. Life isn’t slowing down, so I decided to take a time out and sift through what I had written; I finally decided to post it – for better or worse.

To his frustration, the choice wasn’t as clearly cut as he had initially thought it would be. The only wise decision was to turn down the offer. And then he wondered if that choice was really what he wanted or if it had been superimposed on him over the years by his former mentor. He didn’t know anything for certain about the Bedim, only what he’d heard over the years. And yet, it had never crossed his mind that they would actually try to recruit him to their side.
His meditations gave him no resolution. He felt lost as if on a boat at sea: the waves tossing him but never really appearing to take him anywhere. And then there was Xanatos. Why send him to enlist Obi-Wan into that forsaken lot of misfits? It could have been anyone else who approached him but they chose him. Perhaps they thought he had a better chance of persuading the younger Knight into their ranks.
“Give us a temporary trial. You’ll learn first hand what it is we do and who knows, you may find it agrees with you as well.”
Xan’s words echoed in the younger man’s mind. Tossing the datapad he had been studying onto the table in front of him, Obi-Wan leaned back into the cushions of the couch he was on and released a deep sigh.
“It’s time you strengthen that backbone of yours and start living the life you want instead of being his puppet.”
Obi-Wan quietly voiced his answer to the silence around him, his jaw clenched and his tone accusing. “Fine. You win. I’ll give it a temporary trial, but I doubt that it will agree with me.”
Rising from the sofa, he packed his belongings and headed for his ship. He was due to report to the council in two weeks, just enough time to get back to Coruscant. Normally he’d give his briefing by comm. but the Council decided it was best, for this mission, to brief him in person.
He longed for someone he could talk to, someone who could give him a different view on the matter at hand, an angle that perhaps he hadn’t thought of, but he also knew the majority of the Jedi did not accept the Bedim or their ways: another reason to turn the offer down.
He entered the cockpit and after a preflight check, the ship soared for open space and the journey home.

Having briefed the Council on the last two missions, Obi-Wan waited outside the chambers at the behest of Master Yoda. When the elder Jedi exited the doors, he motioned for the lone Knight to follow in his wake.
“How long am I here for?”
“Worry not. Leave soon enough you will.”
“I could have been briefed by comm. as usual.”
“Yes, but gain wisdom from an empty ship you cannot. Seek counsel you do.”
Obi-Wan’s eyes narrowed at Yoda’s observation. He suddenly jumped back, Yoda’s stick coming within a millimeter of his lower leg. “Faster you have become.”
Turning one last corner, the duo stopped before Yoda’s door and entered the apartment. Taking a long look around, Obi-Wan took a deep breath, inhaling the familiar aromas that marked no other place in the Temple but Yoda’s quarters. He had spent many hours here as a child, learning at the elder Jedi’s side. The Council member’s quarters had become a safe haven when things became too much for a younger Obi-Wan to handle. He was always able to regain his center at the knee of the gnome like creature.
Sitting himself upon a cushion on the floor, Obi-Wan fiddled with a loose string on the sleeve’s hem of his cloak.
“Troubled you are, young one.”
The young Knight nodded in agreement.
“Tell me.”
“The one place I should be content to return to time and again has become the one place I avoid like the plague.”
“Trouble there is between you and your former master. Natural it is to avoid the places and things that remind you of the difficulty behind the problem.”
Obi-Wan smiled slightly. “And yet I sense there will be a day when you will make me stop running and return.”
“Wise are you, Obi-Wan. Wise are you.”
The Knight once again fingered the loose thread on his cloak, his eyes fastened to it. “I was given an offer.” He looked up briefly and then shifted his eyes nervously before continuing. “The Bedim have requested my membership into their ranks.”
“Know this I do.”
The young man’s gaze shot up from where it was studiously watching his cloak to meet Yoda’s. “I don’t understand.”
“Need you they do, Obi-Wan. Too many renegades do they have; losing their way they are. Only a few left that maintain the original doctrine of the clan, what it was meant to be. And even they are struggling to stay in the light. Help them to find their way again you will.”
“And how am I supposed to do that when I can barely find my own?”
Yoda smiled as he leaned forward. “Such doubt you should not have. Yourself is all you need be and the moths will come to the flame.”
“You said you had a mission for me?”
“Do not change topics, finished I am not. Decided have you?”
The young Knight nodded. “I will give it a trial run. But when they trample on the newbie of the group just remember I told you so.”
“Protected you will be by your Bedim mentor. No harm will come upon you.” Yoda looked over to the shadowed corner of the room. “Will it Knight deCrion?”
Xanatos stepped into the light, shielding his eyes momentarily. “No, Master. No harm will befall him.”
Obi-Wan rose from his seated position on the floor. He shook his head in frustration. “I should have known you were conspiring.” He looked at his padawan brother a moment before declaring. “I’m not calling you Master.”
Xan smile was easy. He arched an eyebrow at the spoken declarative. “Don’t worry, I never imagined you would.”
“New mission, this is, Obi-Wan. Begin your Bedim training, you will.”
The two Knights bowed to their elder before departing. Once outside the door, Obi-Wan looked around as if lost. “Now what?”
“Now, we go anywhere we want.”
Confused, the younger man furrowed his brow and shook his head ever so slightly as if asking what that was supposed to mean.
“It means we don’t have to stay in Temple to train. Besides, I don’t think you’re ready for an accidental run in with Jinn yet.”

That made me smile. Obi avoided the shin whack and got a nice compliment:

Wow! I'd completely forgotten about this story. Great post! Hmm... now what will life be like with Xan training Obi? I have a feeling this will be good for Obi-Wan, but challenging... very challenging. But it's the challenges in life that help us to grow stronger. I think this is a good way for Obi to find his own path and not just walk in the path already forged by Qui-Gon.
Please don't wait so long to post again?

I love the Yoda/Obi-Wan interaction! Quick reflexes Obi-Wan has. 
But Obi-Wan certainly does not seem to be very open to this new experience. I wonder how he'll take to the training. (Hint, hint)

I'm also struggling with time and RL issues so I'm not reading as fast as I'd like.
Good job on this. I liked how Yoda was trying to get Obi-Wan to help them regain their focus. I just wish Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon weren't at such odds. I think they both need each other but are too stubborn to admit it, at least at that time.
Looking forward to more.
