Character: Un-named Clone Trooper
Genre: introspection (if that's a genre...)
Summary: A clone trooper has a moment to himself.
Notes: This is for Professor Literati’s Sci-Fi Roulette Challenge, I chose prompt #10: It was a pleasure to burn. (Farenheit 451, Ray Bradbury) It's funny, though, that I got this one. On Friday night, we had dry lightning roll through NorCal and have had fires and smoke ever since. I got the prompt and had to go outside to smell the smoke for a minute to orient myself to it. That said... enjoy. 
It was a pleasure to burn, he thought as he looked through thick smoke, trying to see a still burning building.
Not one person had fled the buildings, not one figure had come toward him. Not one.
As he blinked back the stinging from the smoke in his eyes, he couldn't help wonder what it was like inside a flame.
From the outside, a flame was orange, almost red, and beautiful as it danced and crackled and spread over everything, consuming all.
It was beautiful... from the outside.
But on the inside... he could only imagine. Inside, a flame was hot. Very hot. As hot as the inside of a star.
Slowly, he edged toward the still smoldering building, and had to choke back a cough as the smoke got thicker. Shaking his head, he backed away again.
As he watched the fire dwindle to nothing, all he could think was one thing... It was a pleasure to burn. Burn for his people. Burn for his nation. It was a pleasure to burn.

Interesting little fic you got there DaenaBenjen42. I enjoy the short form; there's no fluff, just the message you want to get across. It a very interesting look into a clone troopers head. It's strangely analytic (almost like a droid) but also strangely human... Well done!

Nice to see that the trooper was outside the fire. Being inside you don't last long unless protected by full gear.
