Pieces ~ A /P Poem, ROTS
Title:
Pieces
Characters:
Padmé
Timeframe:
ROTS
Genre:
Poem (of sorts), Angst
Author's Notes:
I've never written anything in this style before, so my apologies in advance.
*cringes as she hits the post key*
Pieces
The pieces lay shattered now
Broken and abandoned at my feet
Scattered to the winds
Fodder to the creatures that scurry the ground
The pain left behind is unbearable
A fire that smolders and sears
Unending in its brutality
Relentless in its consumption
It cares not that I beg for mercy
Compassion is not in its nature
I chose to taste its sweet nectar
It now demands nothing less than my soul in return
The ache burrows ever deeper
Settling into my very core
Its poison seeping, festering
Claiming what is left of this hollow shell as its own
I grow weary of resistance
It is a futile endeavor
It whispers to me, scoffs at my weakness
I am its prisoner, and it is my penance
I hear their cries as if from a distance
It is my one regret
But my surrender is now complete
Where I once longed to be whole, I now long only for release
It is love that was our undoing
And that must now be their salvation
It is love that will breathe life
Into a heart now closed and empty
It is a lesson we all must learn
Yet often it is learned too late
Love is a powerful weapon
And it must be wielded wisely, my little ones
But some things, once broken
Even love in its power cannot mend
The pieces scattered and too many
The pain more than even love can withstand
With shattered heart and broken soul
I close my eyes in willing surrender
Knowing that it was indeed love that brought us here
To this time, to this place
But it is the Darkness, my Knight, that now carries me home.

Whoa.
And that's a GREAT whoa, not a "I can't believe she posted that!" whoa.
Simply stunning. And that last line...
You're such a talented writer, and you've proven that yet again.

Poor Padme, she paid the ultimate price when she fell in love with Anakin.
Painfully poignant but so
beautifully written

You know how much that means to me.

Lovely work - I think you've done a great job capturing Padmé and all the tragedy in her death. I was especially struck by the conflict between the twins and what they meant for her and that overwhelming hopelessness and loss she felt with Anakin's fall.
