Actually, that gives me good feelings. I suspect something really intriguing is going to happen soon, and I can't wait to see what Palpy has up his voluminous sleeve this time. Good post,

Now whatever could the King of Alderaan have to say? I imagine most people would say almost anything with a double-bladed lightsaber at their back.

Sorry about the wait, everyone. I took the time to add another scene to the script to provide a good transition where there previously was none.

Indeed, unbeknowst to our heroes, things are moving among the powerplayers of Coruscant.

So let's see what our heroes are up to, shall we?
--------------
Teya’Nen’s blue arms gently embraced a shaking prisoner as she blocked out the smell of burned flesh from the ugly abdominal blaster wound. The young man’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat, jaws clenched as he silently battled the pain. Teya’Nen carefully put her hand on his forehead and closed her eyes, slowing her breathing and releasing all tension from her limbs. Soon, the trembling man stopped shivering and fell into a blissful sleep. Her work done, Teya’Nen looked up over the assembly of patients in the make-shift med centre, all of them finally attended to.
She saw Obi-Wan standing up from another wounded prisoner, thoughtfully stroking his beard as he scrutinized the captive’s uniform insignia before pocketing it. Next to him, the medical droid DD9 knelt to administer treatment to the patient. Just then, the roar of the Desert Blossom’s engines echoing over the mountain range caught her attention. She turned in time to see the ship slowly settle into a final approach aiming for the spot where the enemy transport ship had rested just an hour before. The freighter no longer trailed smoke, but the blackened hull bore silent witness of the recent battle.
As it started the landing procedure, the two Jedi made their way towards it. From across the field, Teya’Nen could see Lieutenant Amidala come walking from the Royal cruiser, Anakin in tow. She was now out of her armour, her clean purple field uniform a sharp contrast to the young pilot’s grease smeared appearance. With a relieved smile, the Twi’lek discreetly noted that Anakin was quite oblivious to her presence, his attention completely devoted to the young officer next to him.
The Blossom settled down softly and moments later the landing ramp extended, doors opening to let Beru and Owen out to meet the small assembly. Anakin ran up the ramp even as Beru rushed to greet him, meeting him halfway with a tight hug. As Teya’Nen followed Obi-Wan and the Lieutenant up the ramp, she noted that Owen only slowly made his way towards the gathering, constantly eyeing the Jedi Master warily and carefully positioning himself on the far side of the group.
“Good to see everything turned out well, kid,” he said to Anakin. The young pilot positively shone when he turned to his old friend.
“It was amazing, Owen!” he said ecstatically and firmly planted his hand on Owen’s shoulder in greeting. “You should have seen us!”
“We just did what we had to do, nothing more, nothing less,” Obi-Wan softly broke in and then looked straight at Owen. “Captain Lars, I am sorry about interfering with you like that. I did what I felt I had to. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me in time.”
Owen just grunted in reply, eyes still averted from the Jedi. Obi-Wan’s eyes lingered on him for a moment, but when the Captain remained quiet, the Master continued.
“---may I introduce to you Lieutenant Padmé Amidala of the Royal Guard,” he said with a sweeping gesture towards her. “Lieutenant Amidala, this is Owen Lars, Captain of this spice freighter.”
Owen relaxed somewhat and firmly shook her hand.
“A pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant,” he said frankly. “We have a cargo hold full of spare parts for you. We had to use some bits to repair our own hyperdrive, but there should be plenty left for your ship---they told us you might have such troubles...”
“Thank you, Captain, it’s most welcome,” Padmé replied with relief but then gave the small ship a concerned look. “But...is this the Republic’s grand rescue? A YT-1300 and some spare parts? I was expecting at least a squad of soldiers.”
“It seems politics got in the way somehow,” Beru said with an apologetic smile.
“I guess,” Padmé agreed with a sigh. “I’m not complaining – any help is welcome. But what is going on on Coruscant?”
“Politics goes on there,” Owen huffed condescendingly. “And as a rule, it’s a good idea to keep away. Nothing but committees and talk, if you ask me.”
“I agree,” Anakin fell in, grinning at Padmé. “Too little action. The system clearly isn’t working if you ask me.”
“You have something to learn about politics, young man,” Obi-Wan said sagely. “The Senate works slowly for a reason. There are many wills in the galaxy, and all deserve to be heard. And there are factors in this case that the senators don’t know about. Ignorance makes for poor decision-making.”
“What do you mean?” Padmé asked, interest piqued.
“Your story, lieutenant,” the Jedi Master explained and paused momentarily. “It seems that this is not just some power play by organized crime, which is what most are guessing right now.”
“So what’s going on?” Padmé probed with curiosity.
“I’m not quite sure,” the Jedi Master said hesitatingly while looking into the distance. “I need to report this to Coruscant, see what they make of it.”
“All right,” Padmé said decisively and looked at Owen. “Then we should get right down to business---the sooner we can get going, the better.”
“Sure, no problem,” he replied with a nod and looked towards the ship’s cargo loading bay. “This way, Lieutenant.”
Owen and Padme started down the ramp with Beru in tow and then proceeded underneath the belly of the freighter. Anakin lingered behind, shifting his weight from foot to foot as he sent looks after the three. Teya’Nen finally managed to catch his eyes. The young man started, mouth opening and closing in embarrassed confusion, but the Twi’lek simply gave him a warm smile. She sent a poignant glance after the trio and gave Anakin a nod of encouragement. Instantly, he relaxed with relief and looked eagerly to Obi-Wan.
“I’ll...go help ‘em out,” he said, excusing himself awkwardly before trotting away.
Teya’Nen smiled contently again as she watched him go and then took a deep breath to steel herself before turning to Obi-Wan. He didn’t seem very amused, watching Anakin go with a concerned frown on his forehead before gesturing for her to lead the way to the freighter’s cockpit.
The young Twi’lek stopped by the doorway to allow Obi-Wan to enter the cockpit first, lekku nervously twitching while her eyes wandered all over the walls. The Jedi Master didn’t seem to notice as he went straight to the communications console and punched a couple of buttons. Only then did he glance back to notice Teya’Nen promptly sitting down by the controls with arms defensively crossed. Obi-Wan smiled absent-mindedly and got back to his instruments.
“Now, let’s see if we can get a transmission through to Master Yoda,” he said.
“Master Yoda?” Teya’Nen said a bit too high pitched. Her lekku twitched apprehensively. “Master, I---I know that I was at fault. I am sorry. Do we really have to...to tell Master Yoda about it?”
Obi-Wan stopped in the middle of his workings and looked back at her.
“What?” he said with a startled look. “Oh, you---I see. That was not my intention at all. But, indeed, you do realize that such...sentiments, emotionalism, is...inappropriate?”
“Yes, Master,” she answered and looked down into the floor. “I mean, I do know the Code.”
“Look, Teya’Nen,” the Master said and leaned forward, searching for eye contact. “I’m not your master, only the leader for this mission. It is not my place to give you guidance on this matter. “
“I understand,” she replied, eyes firmly locked on the floor.
“But...,” he continued thoughtfully. “Let me give you this advice. Look to the code, ‘There is no passion, only serenity.’ Search your feelings, trust the Force, and when we come back, talk to your Master Jinn if you feel you need to.”
She finally looked up, confidence creeping back into her eyes.
“Yes, master,” she said slowly. “I will meditate on this.”
Obi-Wan gave her a smile of approval.
“Don’t worry Teya’Nen,” he said reassuringly. “You are an amazingly talented student, and you have shown yourself very disciplined. You will surely find insight on this as well. I am just surprised---it was a tad sudden, that’s all. Even the strongest among us must always be on guard.”
“Yes, I understand,” Teya’Nen nodded soberly. “I might have been overconfident in my abilities. Maybe I was inattentive to...my state of mind...”
“I’m sure you will find your way,” Obi-Wan said with light hearted air. “Don’t brood too much on the matter now, there will be plenty of time to meditate upon this when we get back to the temple.”
“I see,” she nodded her agreement. “Very well.”
Obi-Wan grunted contentedly and turned to push the final button on the panel, conjuring up the small holo-image of Yoda.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the tiny image of the Grand Master began. “Expecting news from you, we have been.”
“Master Yoda,” Obi-Wan started with a bow. “We have found the crash site and the refugees from Alderaan.”
“But worry in you I sense,” Yoda said straightforwardly.
“Yes, Master,” Obi-Wan admitted with concern. “The king was not here. Someone got here before us, someone powerful with the Force, someone using the Dark side.”
“Mmm...” the small master grunted, deep in thought. “A Dark Jedi, you think this is.”
“Yes, Master,” Obi-Wan continued with narrowing eyes. “It would seem so, though I am not sure who this could be. I cannot recall if we’ve had any apprentice dangerously close to the Dark side lately.”
“Hmmm...” the master nodded his agreement. “Meditate upon this, we must. But right you are, more troublesome this makes the situation.”
“Indeed,” Obi-Wan confirmed. “We will do our best to handle it before it becomes public, and hopefully we can even turn that misled soul away from his destructive path before more damage is done.”
“Good,” Yoda said politely and then looked Kenobi straight in the eyes. “And what of the boy?”
Obi-Wan blinked once, taken aback.
“He is strong with the Force, as I thought,” he then said with sincerity. “Very strong.”
“Invite this one to the Jedi Order you want?” the Grand Master continued relentlessly.
“Yes,” Obi-Wan admitted frankly. “I believe he should be trained in the ways of the Force.”
“Dangerous it is to train someone so old,” Yoda warned sternly.
“Yes, Master, I know,” Obi-Wan reluctantly conceded. “But he is extremely talented.”
“Master Kenobi speaks the truth, Master Yoda,” Teya’Nen suddenly blurted out, immediately stopping herself just as the words left her mouth. “He is very powerful,” she quietly added when two masters turned to look at her.
“I can keep my own council on who is to be trained, padawan,” Yoda retorted with a severe look towards her.
“Yes, Master,” she whispered shyly and looked down, lekku twisting with embarrassment. “I’m sorry.”
“Look, Master,” Obi-Wan declared with passion, turning back to Yoda. “Please consider him. It might be very dangerous not to train him – he is already using the Force, even though he does not know it. I’ve never seen anyone do that before! That is why we must train him. If we allow him to go on, without the discipline to control his powers, he might very well end up hurting both himself and others.”
The Grand Master hummed defensively without saying anything, but his eyes narrowed harshly as the younger master went on.
“Besides,” Obi-Wan continued with increased courage. “He seems to be an orphan, so he has no emotional ties to family that could cloud his judgement.”
Yoda still did not reply.
“Master,” Kenobi finally added with urgency.”Observe him and consult with the Council on this. I’m ready to train him myself if need be!”
“Patience, Obi-Wan Kenobi, is needed if one is to train others,” the Grand Master said discontentedly.
“I’m sorry, Master,” Obi-Wan relented. “Would you at least observe him?”
“Very well,” Yoda finally agreed with a sigh. “Observe him I shall, but reasons there are for not training one so old.”
“Yes, master,” Obi-Wan said, grinning ear to ear. “Thank you.”
Yoda did not smile back.
“Thank me not, Obi-Wan,” he said with a frown. “Reckless you are in this matter, I think.”
With that, the image disappeared. Obi-Wan’s fingers started tapping the console impatiently as the Jedi Master kept watching the spot where the little image had been.

Great post, Danaan! It seems poor Anakin is up to his eyebrows in interested women, as well as catching the eye of the Jedi Council. The poor boy doesn't know what he's getting into, does he? :P Way to move the action along!
Can't wait till the next post!

: Thank you master *bows*
Lady_Misty
: She does. And he does.
DountCooku
: Thanks for the comment. Yoda has probably had less complicated matters to deal with. Though I'm thinking that he considers Obi-Wan's inclinations as more annoying than the Alderaan affair...
GeneralKenobi7
: Yup. Smitten's the word. Obi-Wan does fullfil the same function in this story with his pursuit to get Anakin trained. I figure that was sort of how things were originally intended. But I have plans for Qui-Gon, too, and it will be interesting to see how they might contrast each other down the line. As for Yoda, I think he probably has an inkling, which should contribute to his grumpyness
Sorry for the long wait, folks. Baby teething, new Term, and seductive computer games are to blame. Particularly the latter
Anyway, update time!!
---------------
When Obi-Wan joined the others by the Blossom loading bay, with Teya’Nen right behind him, he found Lieutenant Amidala and Owen carefully checking off entries on a datapad. Beru stood close by, going through the parts on the list, eagerly helped by Anakin who incessantly sent glances towards the young officer. As the two Jedi joined the group, the Lieutenant immediately looked up.
“Any news?” she asked them impatiently.
“Well, yes,” Obi-Wan started and put his hands into his sleeves, giving her a serious look. “It seems my suspicions were right. That man you met. You thought he was a Jedi, and that’s an understandable mistake. I think most people believe that only Jedi know the way of the Force. That is not entirely true.”
“There are others?” the officer asked with surprise.
“Yes,” the Jedi Master answered slowly as he took a couple of steps around the opened crate. “This is not something we Jedi usually like to talk about...”
“Yes?” Amidala prodded impatiently.
Obi-Wan stopped and sucked hard on his lips, glancing towards Owen and Beru.
“Please,” she pleaded relentlessly, refusing to let him go with her eyes. “That man has the entire royal family!”
“Very well,” Obi-Wan replied. He glanced to Teya’Nen, who stepped forward with a supporting wink, and then took a deep breath before he continued. “The truth is, not every candidate that we take in prove capable of the very strict training that is required to become a Jedi.”
“You see,” Teya’Nen confidently elaborated, looking over her audience. “Using the Force takes a lot of discipline. If you are not careful, your emotions, your passions, might run out of control. And then those emotions control you, instead of the other way around.”
“Precisely,” Obi-Wan said succinctly. “That is what we call ‘the Dark side’”.
“Passion is dark?” Anakin said, frowning with doubt. “How? That doesn’t make any sense.”
“Yes,” Kenobi said looked at him with gentle sincerity. “When you give in to selfish desires you become overcome by negative emotions like fear, anger and hatred. Once you start turning to them to use the Force, it becomes like being on deathsticks. It leads to a great deal of suffering for the user and anyone near him.”
“And you think this person has turned to this ‘Dark Side’?” Beru asked thoughtfully.
“Yes”, Obi-Wan said, nodding affirmatively. “I fear that we are dealing with one of those apprentices who were expelled from the order. Most are grateful to return to a normal life, they will always have some sensitivity to the Force, but usually keep it under control.”
“But that obviously is not always the case?” Beru continued.
“No,” the Jedi Master said and sighed. “Every once in a while, resentment builds within someone expelled. And resentment leads them to the Dark Side. We call them ‘Dark Jedi’.”
“Every once in a while---how often is that?” Padme enquired soberly.
“Only once per generation or so,” Obi-Wan explained as he looked over the small group. “But when it happens, it is our task to track them down and try to turn them from their destructive path, or at least stop them from harming others.”
“We’ll stop him!” Anakin cried out boastfully with a big grin. “I mean, we made a pretty good team just now.”
Teya’Nen gently looked at him.
“This is serious” she said earnestly, looking him straight in the eyes. “Only those trained in the ways of the Force can defeat this man.”
“We’ll see---“, Anakin started, waving her off with a grin. The Jedi Master cut him off with a grave look.
“She is right, Anakin,” he said sternly and leaned towards the young man. “Let me and Teya’Nen handle him.”
“I don’t know if I like the sound of this,” Owen muttered aloud to himself with a scowl. When the others turned towards him, he suddenly crossed his arms and looked straight at Obi-Wan. “Master Kenobi, what’s on your mind now?”
“Well,” Obi-Wan said slowly, thinking as he spoke.”This man has the king in his clutches. That’s a very serious matter. He can do all sorts of damage in that position.”
“Then we must leave right away!” Padme cried with alarm. “Captain Lars, when will your ship be ready for take off?”
“Soon,” Owen replied, still fixating the Jedi Master with his eyes. “Just some power couplings need replacing, really.”
"Good,” Obi-Wan said, nodding to himself. “We need to get to Alderaan as quickly as possible.”
“Not in this ship, you won’t,” Owen said flatly and shook his head.
“I beg your pardon?” Padme cried, eyes wide with surprise.
Owen took a breath and looked at Padme and Obi-Wan with dead seriousness.
“With all due respect, Lieutenant, master Kenobi,” he started, arms out in a conciliatory gesture. “They know we’re coming, they know you are Jedi and they know this ship. It’s about as fast as a space slug. It doesn’t matter how good or talented you think Anakin is, he will be no match against those Z-95s without the element of surprise.”
There was a moment of silence. Obi-Wan noted how Padme opened her mouth to speak, but then closed it again, stumped for words and looked towards the young pilot. Surprised by having everybody’s eyes turn to him, Anakin silently stiffened for a moment before finally acknowledging Owen’s point with a bashful nod.
“Indeed,” Obi-Wan concluded, blinking a couple of times while he stroked his beard. “You are right.”
He then leaned against the crate with a frown, deep in thought.
“What?” Anakin suddenly cried out and gave Owen a look of complete confusion. “You can’t back out! Not now!”
“Who said anything about backing out, kid?” Owen answered calmly. “I just said we can’t go in this ship. But I believe I know a guy that could get us just the ship we need.”
Beru’s eyes lit up with sudden revelation. A smile spread across her face as she turned to her fiancé.
“Aldo?” she asked, knowingly.
“Aldo,” Owen replied with a confident smile of his own.
Twelve hours later, the Desert Blossom broke free of Velusia’s gravity and disappeared into hyperspace with a flash.
-------------------
The view from Senator Organa’s office was hardly impressive, blocked off as it was by the heavy edifice of the administrative complex that adjoined the main rotunda of the Senate. Still, the office’s dominating blues and greens at least provided some compensation to the dull greys outside. Cramped in comparison with most others, it was arranged with comfortable furniture made of the natural materials of Alderaan, decorated in the popular classical style of the planet. Organa sat behind his desk watching the holocast of the latest news from the Alderaan space port projected on the opposite wall, a few untouched flimsies in front of him. The newsreader had cornered a pale looking human woman, dressed in the most recent fashions from Zeltron. A small sign was projected under her face, identifying her as a trader.
“What is your reaction to the re-opening of the Alderaan space-port?” the newsreader asked with the amplifier right under the trader’s nose.
“It’s great,” the trader flustered, correcting her hair before she started rambling. “The security is certainly very tight right now. I like it, it feels good, and I can certainly understand it with what’s just happened and all. But still, it makes everything so very slow with the high security bureaucracy. They search everything, you know---“
A beep in Bail’s desk distracted him from the holocaust. He sat up straight and pressed a couple of buttons to mute the broadcast and brought up the holo-image of Yoda on his desk.
“Master Yoda,” Bail said and bowed politely as best he could while sitting. “Thank you for contacting me. What news from the team---are you watching the news-cast?”
“Yes, Senator,” Yoda answered with a courteous smile. “The royal cruiser, the team have found.”
“Great news!” Bail cried out with a big smile. “What of the King?”
“Too late they were,” Yoda answered sadly and shook his head. “A captive he is of the villains. Pursuing them they are. More time is needed to track them down.”
Bail leaned back again, clearly struck by the news.
“I don’t like this secrecy one bit,” he growled with a deep frown. “I need hard evidence that the King is still in the clutches of those pirates. I’m worried that this ‘news’ will play into the hands of Argente and his Isolationist clique. There is a real risk that he will now get the support he needs to defeat our motion. “
“Do what you can,” Yoda replied encouragingly. “More time for the team you must buy. A trick this is.”
“Certainly, master Yoda,” Bail nodded grimly. “I have faith in them. I have a meeting with the Chancellor soon.”
Yoda nodded.
“May the Force be with you,” he said and gave him a compassionate look before his image disappeared. Bail stared grimly into empty space for a moment and then turned the sound from the cast back on.
“...while the Alderaan space-port is re-opened for traffic,” the caster continued, “the security remains high following the coup attempt and the court will still not answer any questions as it continues to track down the perpetrators. This is---“
Organa turned it off impatiently.
“Blast!” he cried out and slapped his hand hard on the desk in frustration.

Blast! indeed. I hope this Aldo dude can provide a fast ship...wonder what he's got up his sleeve for the Jedi and company. I can't wait to see who's behind this whole schmozzle. Wonder if Anakin can stifle his hormones enough to learn to hear the Force.

Sorry about the extraordinarily long wait on this new post - DRL has been busy, and I had to continue polishing on a subplot, which took longer than I thought.
Jedi_Perigrine
and
Lady Misty
: A fast ship? We'll see what Owen has in mind, but to find a civilian ship that is faster than state-of-the-art fighters will be rare thing, indeed....

: Bail is certainly feeling the pressure. Let's see if he can stall the Chancellor for as long as our heroes need. Then again, if anyone could do it, it might just be him. And Obi-Wan certainly has his eyes on young Ani..
Ladies and gents, I give you...the next update! Thanks for waiting and reading!

The Desert Blossom common room was empty and calm, save for Teya’Nen who floated upside down in a corner. She breathed slowly, eyes closed, with a peaceful smile over the completely relaxed face, reflecting the stillness of the room. Around her, a circle of tools drifted, seemingly engaged in a joyful dance mirroring the still happiness of her soul.
The tranquility was disturbed by Lieutenant Amidala stomping into the room, furious, causing the objects to come clashing down around the surprised Twi’lek. Teya’Nen cushioned her short fall by rolling into a sitting position and looked up at the lieutenant. She opened her mouth to laugh, but kept silent when she saw how Amidala paced wildly back and forth without acknowledging her, hands fidgeting on a datapad. The young Jedi looked gently at her, somehow causing Amidala to stop short by the table and turn to look directly at her.
“I finally got Owen to tell me where we’re headed. Do you know?” she started, waving the datapad through the air. “Take a guess where this Aldo character works!”
Calmly, Teya’Nen got to her feet and joined her.
“Where?” she asked.
“Nar Shaddaa!” Padme cried, slapping the datapad hard on the table. “The Blasted Smuggler’s Moon! That’s where! Aldo, the man who is our best hope for rescuing the King of Alderaan, is a blasted smuggler! A criminal!”
Teya’Nen sat down and looked at the small data screen with curiosity.
“I didn’t know that,” she said with a thoughtful frown when she found the coordinates. “That’s....That’s not ideal.”
“Not ideal?” Padme quipped and rolled her eyes, slumping down in a chair across from the Twi’lek,. “Understatement of the year! We’re going to Nar Shaddaa, for crying out loud! Teya’Nen, I’m not about to trust the life of the King to a criminal!”
“What would you like to do?” Teya’Nen asked with a sympathetic look at the young officer.
Padme sighed loudly.
“That’s the thing,” she said, gritting her teeth as she ran her frustrated hands through her hair. “I don’t know. I don’t know what to do. Every idea I come up with seems impossible to carry out in one way or the other.”
“Well,” Teya’Nen started and slowly leaned back. “I can only speak from my own perspective. Jedi are taught to never do any harm. We have to stay away from the convenient short cut that risk putting innocent people in harm’s way.”
“Yes?” Padme prodded impatiently.
“Paying criminals for services usually means that harm will be done to innocents somewhere,” the young Jedi replied matter-of-factly.
“So why isn’t Master Kenobi stopping this?” Padme cried in impotent rage.
Teya’Nen gave the problem a moment of thought.
“I think,” she started slowly, “we wouldn’t normally want to do something like this, but maybe sometimes we end up in a situation where all choices are bad. If we didn’t go to Nar Shaddaa and talk to this Aldo person, we lose time, and in that time....”
“...something really bad can happen to the King!” Padme finished the sentence, concerned.
“Yes,” Teya’Nen nodded. “And that’s why I think Master Kenobi lets this pass. Don’t worry, Padme, the King and his family will be saved. I can feel it.”
Padme grunted with frustration and frowned, clenching her jaws before she looked down on the datapad and stared at it stubbornly.
“What?” Teya’Nen asked cautiously.
“It’s just that...,” Padme started reluctantly. “The ‘Dark Jedi’?”
“Yes, what about him?”
Padme looked up with an unhappy frown.
“It’s all good for you to say that the King will be saved,” she said ruefully, “when it’s my fault that he and the royal family are in this situation!”
“Your fault?” Teya’Nen said with doubt. “What do you mean?”
“I should have stopped him!” the Padme replied regretfully. “I knew something was wrong, and yet I didn’t act!”
“Oh...” Teya’Nen replied, stumped. “But that’s not your fault. That man was skilled in the ways of the Force. I doubt if any of you could have stopped him even if you tried.”
“But I should have!” Padme insisted. “It was my duty! And I didn’t! I failed when I was needed the most.”
Teya’Nen shook her head.
“He used the power of the Dark Side against you,” she said with a comforting voice. “You can’t blame yourself for that.”
“No, he didn’t!” Padme protested. “I mean, looking back, the King certainly seemed to be under some sort of control, but I wasn’t controlled.”
“Do you know what that feels like, being under control?” Teya’Nen asked.
“Um...” Padme started and then fell silent, blinking. “No...”
“You know what I think?” Teya’Nen said and took Padme’s hand. “Even if he had no control directly over you, his power might have made all of you fear him so much that you couldn’t act. Those who turn to the Dark side often use such evil to humiliate their victims.”
“Really?” Padme replied with revelation. “I mean, I’ve been scared before, but it’s true---it never stopped me from doing what was needed before.”
“Mhm,” Teya’Nen nodded with confirmation. “And I think that he will find it difficult to use the same mind trick on you again, now that you know what he does.”
“You better believe it,” Padme said with renewed determination. “If I ever meet him again---“
“---you will leave him to Obi-Wan and myself,” Teya’Nen finished her sentence with a smile.
“Hm,” Padme grunted with an understanding nod. “I suppose you’re right. But I will be prepared for his tricks!”
“I know you will,” Teya’Nen said with clear eyes.

The Iridonian stood beside the throne in the Royal offices of the capital city of Aldera. The King occupied the high seat, but the stately purple regalia sat awkwardly on his strangely limp body. His eyes, wrinkles bearing witness of a lifetime of levity and joy, were now strained by a desperate inner struggle. Desks along the walls had active monitors and projectors showing charts and holo-maps in front of empty chairs. The two purple armoured Royal Guards by the massive double doors were the only other occupants in the hall.
The doors opened to allow a stern-looking woman in. She had grey hair, wrapped in a strict bundle and wore the yellow Aldera city militia uniform, the shoulder insignia indicating her Commander rank. Age had not affected her steely eyes, which narrowed when they fell upon the Iridonian. He met her gaze with an icy, unrelenting yellow stare. Not skipping a beat, she continued approaching her sovereign and bowed appropriately.
“You sent for me, my liege,” she said curtly, eyes firmly locked on the sovereign. The King remained completely still, not acknowledging her presence with a single movement.
“Sir, you sent for me,” the Commander repeated with a slight frown, still without getting any reaction.
The Iridonian leaned forward and whispered silently in the King’s ear, his right hand clenching into a claw-like fist. The sovereign finally spoke.
“Commander Holst,” he said, voice strained and monotonous.
“Yes, sir,” the officer replied, standing at a hesitant attention. The Iridonian whispered in the King’s air again.
“Marshall Panu saved Us from an attempt on Our life,” the King continued in a robotic staccato. “He is hereby your new officer in command. From now on you report to Marshall Panu. Obey all Marshall Panu’s orders.”
The Commander frowned, eyes watching the black cloaked figure with intense suspicion.
“Sir, with all due respect...,” she started but her voice faded as the Iridonian whispered yet again.
“Your new officer in command is Marshall Panu,” the King repeated. A single drop of sweat ran down his brow, finally finding its way into his white beard. The Commander glanced back at the Iridonian but he simply ignored her and whispered in the King’s air again.
“Your new officer in command is Marshall Panu,” the King said once more.
The officer took a deep breath.
“Yes, my Liege,” she said, relenting, though her eyes kept watching the Iridonian warily.
“Dismissed,” the sovereign finally said, head slumping down to his chest with an exhale of exhaustion.
The Commander saluted and shot a final, venomous look at the Iridonian. Calmly, he rewarded her with a slight smirk. Flustered, she turned and left, her boots echoing as she exited the hall. Before the doors closed behind her, Captain Panu entered and shot a glance after her before he approached the throne, watching the hooded man with anxiety.
“Guards, leave us,” the Iridonian said ominously. Behind Panu, the two sentinels silently left, leaving the mercenary captain alone with the subdued sovereign and his black clad dominator.
“My Lord...,” Panu started, looking nervously at his superior. “I held the ground as long as I could. My men are trained to fight militia, not Jedi Knights.”
“Is that so?” the Iridonian said slowly. “How many did you lose?”
Panu gulped hard.
“A-About a dozen,” he stuttered.
“I do not like weakness,” the red faced man whispered menacingly.
Panu clenched his jaws hard, bracing himself for whatever might come.
“Maybe you need something to regain your courage?” the Iridonian continued, eyes hard. Panu’s hand reflexively went to his hip holster. The black cloaked man just smiled.
“Maybe a promotion?” he said suddenly.
“Ah---“ Panu began, confusion all over his face. “I’m sorry, what?”
“The court of Alderaan is now in our hands,” the Iridonian continued steadily. “You are now the new officer in command of the Aldera militia, as per our agreement. Congratulations, Marshall Panu. Soon, you will rule this system.”
The mercenary captain relaxed enough to remember to remove his hand from the holster.
“Um...thank you, sir,” he said, still baffled.
“You will find your new uniform in your quarters.” The Iridonian added coldly.
“Yes, sir!” Panu promptly replied and snapped to attention. He then started for the door, steps re-energized. The black cloaked man’s chill voice stopped him short.
“And Marshall...”, he said, voice almost a whisper. “You will be more successful in the future.”
Panu swallowed hard and turned around.
“Yessir”, he said and gave the Iridonian a slow and precise salute.

Uh, and there I thought only Skywalkers and Kenobis had that habit of blaming themselves...Padme seems to be good at it, too. Fortunately Teya'Nen managed to calm her down.
That last bit was quite dark *shudders*

I presume you've mentioned that to Anakin on occasion?"

Jedi Knights are the best! Clone troopers are right behind them in second place!
This might not end well.
