The Truth about Sifo-Dias

~Chapter 5~

Shady Business

Qui-Gon's order had been crystal clear to his padawan. -Return to the temple balcony at once.- Qui-Gon's nudge had been fierce, so his padawan knew that he meant business.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was disappointed, and rubbed his head gently. He was very much aware that disobeying his master would be the wrong move.

The padawan had responded through the force bond. -Oh fine master! I'm going back.- He had pouted as he turned around to head back.

Then, Qui-Gon Jinn had sent a soothing message. -Obi-Wan... I'm not in any danger.- However, Obi-Wan knew better. Something was amiss and his master was keeping him out of the picture.

When he arrived back at the temple balcony, Obi-Wan took notice of the refreshing evening breeze whipping around the temple spires. The bright yellow sky of the mid-afternoon had now been replaced by the darker indigo hues of Coruscant's early night. A few of the brightest stars were already visible.

Obi-Wan gazed at the skylanes, finding them even more hypnotic now. The majority of vehicles had activated their lights, and padawan Kenobi stared at the bright reds, whites, and yellows.

Suddenly, Obi-Wan had a thought. ‘I did return to the temple balcony... he can't get mad if I go to investigate now.’ A wry smile formed across the padawan's face. ‘Besides,’ Obi-Wan told himself. ‘Qui-Gon should have been back already.’ Obi-Wan had come to a decision, and turned towards the nearby corridor with a mischievous grin.

Upon entering the brightly lit hallway, Obi-Wan delved into the force bond that he and his master shared. Something was very amiss. He could sense Qui-Gon's presence, but something was different.

Qui-Gon's presence didn't roll into Obi-Wan as fluid waves like it usually did. The presence was more sedated, and as Obi-Wan reached out to his master, he felt as if Qui-Gon was somehow dumbfounded.

‘Something's wrong,’ was Obi-Wan's thought, and his pace along the corridor increased rapidly. He knew exactly where to go. Within the nub of his mind, he had Qui-Gon pinpointed at the Jedi quarters level of the temple.

‘What if Qui-Gon had been drugged?’ was one of the many paranoid thoughts that shot through the padawan's mind.

At the turbolift station, a few of Obi-Wan's fellow padawans acknowledged his arrival. However, Obi-Wan didn't even look at them. He just nodded and said "Hello" as he entered the appropriate turbolift.

As the lift sped towards the upper Jedi quarters level, Obi-Wan realized that the group of padawans was assembled there to meet for supper. That's where Obi-Wan wanted to be. Qui-Gon often teased his padawan about thinking with his stomach.

Obi-Wan had become accustomed to eating at strange times due to their many demanding missions, and tonight's flight to Naboo would be no different. They weren't scheduled to eat until the first hyperspace jump.

The doors whooshing open and a quiet beep broke Obi-Wan out of his reverie about food.

He sprinted out into the quarters level, which was dimly lit compared to the main hallways he was used to. The room that Obi-Wan shared with Qui-Gon was located in a completely different wing of the temple, so Obi-Wan had to guess which hallways to take to find his master.

Through the force, he had a good lock on Qui-Gon's position, but then something strange happened. Time seemed to slow for a moment and Obi-Wan was about to dart left into an adjoining corridor, when his force senses transformed. Rather than picking up Qui-Gon's familiar force signature, Obi-Wan felt a dark presence around the corner he was about to turn. The aura was powerful. Qui-Gon's presence had disappeared.

Obi-Wan was sprinting as fast as he could, but things were unfolding in slow motion. As soon as he turned the corner, he saw the visage of Jedi Master Sifo-Dias, who was lightly jogging towards the corner from the adjoining hallway. Then, time sped up and they collided, both falling to the floor.

The padawan was first to get up, shaking his head. He didn't understand what he had sensed, because the dark presence was gone now, as quickly as it had come. Obi-Wan was dusting himself off when he realized he had knocked over one of the masters.

"Oh... Master Dias... I'm... terribly sorry." The padawan extended his arm and offered a hand to the Zabrak Jedi Master.

"Oh my." The master chuckled. "Padawan Kenobi... that's quite alright... I'm quite clumsy you know."

Obi-Wan just smiled.

When Sifo-Dias didn't take the padawan's hand for assistance getting up, Obi-Wan busied himself with picking up the bag Sifo had dropped. And suddenly, in a trance-like state, Obi-Wan felt the darkness again as he handed the bag to the still sitting Jedi Master. It went away even quicker this time, but he still had no trace of Qui-Gon in his mind. It was like he had vanished and couldn't be felt anymore.

This time, Obi-Wan just grabbed the master's hand, not allowing him a chance to decline, for he had seemed reluctant to take that first offer. The padawan pulled his master's friend up and Sifo-Dias brushed himself off. Obi-Wan noticed the Zabrak adjusting one of his cranial horns, but dismissed the thought of it being strange. After all, the Jedi Master was a bit shaken from the collision.

Next, Obi-Wan keenly noticed the red blotch upon Sifo's neck. Considering the Zabrak was brown-skinned, Obi-Wan thought that it was a rash of some nature. And he wasn't about to embarrass the master further by asking him about it.

With both men back up and dusted off, a bizarre look transpired between them. Sifo-Dias secured his grip around the bag he had taken back and seemed to be hiding his hand. It was the hand that Obi-Wan had grasped while helping the Jedi Master up.

As the bizarre look became more stern between the two of them, Obi-Wan noticed something in the eyes of Sifo-Dias. It was a red darkness that captivated the young Jedi padawan. Then he remembered his force vision about the past. This was the man, standing here before him, whose face cracked open and emitted red aurora. The sudden memory shook Obi-Wan to the core. He could once again see sections of face just dropping away in a grotesque manner. ‘Was this actually happening?’ he thought. ‘No.’ He shook his head. ‘It's just a memory of the vision.’

Then, the odd tension melted away and Sifo-Dias smiled at Obi-Wan. "I thank you for your help, Padawan Kenobi."

Suddenly, Qui-Gon's presence was back, but Obi-Wan could no longer pinpoint the area from which it was emanating. That's when he mentally slapped himself and realized to ask Sifo-Dias about Qui-Gon, for the young padawan knew how they had become fast friends.

"Master Sifo-Dias... have you had any contact with my master today?"

Sifo shot a hard glance at Obi-Wan. "Me? Have I seen Qui-Gon Jinn?"

"Yes," Obi-Wan said plainly.

"No... no. I have not seen him today." That was Sifo-Dias' first lie.

"But wasn't he supposed to be there for your send-off?" Obi-Wan inquired.

Now Mace had scheduled the farewell much earlier in the day, but Obi-Wan wasn't aware of that, so Sifo-Dias threw another lie at the padawan. "Yes... I'm on my way to the council chamber now... I expect to see him there."

"Oh." Obi-Wan's mental alarms were sounding off again. ‘Qui-Gon!’ The presence was back. "Thank you for your time, Master Dias." He bowed and took off sprinting along the corridor.

Neither Obi-Wan nor Sifo-Dias was aware that the whole exchange had been recorded from the emission shroud of Sifo's saber hilt.

Obi-Wan looked back instinctively, but Sifo-Dias was gone. ‘That's odd,’ Obi-Wan thought. ‘The turbolift to the chamber is straight ahead... I should be able to see him walking towards it... where'd he go?’ He stopped himself. ‘Never mind that now... I have to find Qui-Gon!’

Obi-Wan ran the last leg of the hallway and turned right into Sifo-Dias' quarters, although he wasn't aware that this room had belonged to the Jedi Master. He instantly saw his master standing there in the middle of the room.

Qui-Gon's eyes were open, but glazed. He took no notice of his padawan.

"Master!" Obi-Wan exclaimed. He walked up to Qui-Gon and waved a hand in front of the Jedi's face.

Qui-Gon did not respond, but Obi-Wan noticed what appeared to be brownish-orange clay smeared across the palm of his hand. It was the hand he had lifted Sifo with. ‘That's curious,’ he thought about his discovery. Again, further analysis would have to wait, for Qui-Gon was in need of help.

"Qui-Gon!" the padawan shouted loudly. He snapped his fingers in front of the dazed master's face.

Then the fog seemed to lift and Qui-Gon looked as normal as ever. The shine in his eyes was back and he stopped slouching. "I have to get to the Jedi council chamber," he said calmly.

"Master!" Obi-Wan yelled. "I just found you in some sort of trance... what's going on?"

"I have to get to the chamber," Qui-Gon explained again.

"If you won't tell me anything, then I'm coming!" was Obi-Wan's retort.

"No... return to the temple balcony to finish your meditation." Qui-Gon seemed distant and he wasn't making much sense.

"Master! It's nightfall already," Obi-Wan explained. "You were supposed to meet me there an hour ago so we could prepare for the trip to Naboo!"

"Oh... right." Qui-Gon seemed to be confused a bit. "Okay... get back to our quarters and get everything together for the trip... I'll meet you there shortly, after I go to the council chamber."

"Oh fine!" Obi-Wan shot back. "But boy do I have questions for you!"

Not really paying attention to his apprentice, Qui-Gon spoke. "Now come my padawan."

They left the room and headed back to the intersection where Sifo and Obi-Wan had crashed earlier. That's where they went their separate ways. However, Obi-Wan continued to mutter as he headed towards the turbolifts again. "Something is amiss and I want answers. You were dumbfounded and drooling! What am I supposed to think?" He didn't expect an answer from his master.

"Prepare our things for the trip." And with that said, Qui-Gon headed towards the council chamber. He had promised Mace that he'd meet him there.

epithree, you have done fantastic work once again!

applause applause applause

You get better and better with each update. The wording you use sometimes makes me think your really old, but the way you stick to the story line without going to far off makes me think you are young. Either way, because I couldn't care less, I love your writing!

Here's my favorite parts: "Suddenly, Obi-Wan had a thought. ‘I did return to the temple balcony... he can't get mad if I go to investigate now.’ A wry smile formed across the padawan's face." That is great and it made me laugh, Obi-Wan is a little sneaky. raised_brow

Another great line: "Qui-Gon often teased his padawan about thinking with his stomach." That was great, sounds like me! laugh

You have done great work once again and I can't wait to see what happens! I hope I didn't bore you to much.

Hello again GuNgAnFaN3090. happy

I truly appreciate the kind words and applause. Thank you.

The updates are a blast to write. About the wording I use... well I never really analyzed it. I just hope it doesn't sound extremely typical. Hmmm... thinking I didn't know the wording and sticking to the storyline were indicators of age. I must admit that sometimes I do go off along a tangent. grin Ultimately, I'm just thrilled that you like the writing.

Glad you liked Obi's plan to go investigate. He's a bit sneaky. Thanks for telling me you laughed. It inspires more humor.

So I see Obi's not the only one that thinks with his stomach. laugh Qui likes to playfully tease his padawan.

Thanks again, and I'm psyched that you're looking forward to the next installment. Bore me??? Absolutely NOT! Your comments are always welcome. Please feel free to write as much as you dare. wink

The Truth about Sifo-Dias

~Chapter 6~

Blank Day

When Qui-Gon Jinn reached the Jedi council chamber, Mace Windu was already there. The brown-skinned Jedi Master approached Qui-Gon immediately upon his arrival. "Master Jinn, where have you been?"

Mace's tone surprised Qui-Gon. Obviously, Mace was disappointed about something. Qui-Gon had only taken a few steps when Mace had reached him.

The Jedi master repeated himself, not as harshly this time. "Where have you been?"

Qui-Gon's demeanor quickly changed. A look of puzzlement appeared across his face and his hand went to his chin. He stroked his beard as he realized that he had no answer for Mace.

The Jedi master had been waiting for Qui-Gon to arrive. And he had been waiting for quite some time now.

While Mace was patiently lingering upon his assigned council seat, he had pondered about where Qui-Gon could have been. He quickly assumed that Qui-Gon was attending to some 'personal business' as he frequently did.

Mace knew that Qui-Gon's rebellious nature had probably caused him to follow the leads he had mentioned at the meditation room. And Mace had specifically told the Jedi to keep his focus upon the Naboo situation.

The powerful Jedi master wondered what Qui-Gon had been up to this time as they walked across the center of the Jedi council chamber.

Qui-Gon looked surprised, for he had no answer. He was quite perplexed, realizing that he had no memory of where he was for the last few hours.

Mace Windu sensed Qui-Gon's bewilderment and decided to lose the harsh tone all together.

Qui-Gon seemed genuinely confused and dumbfounded.

Mace placed each of his hands upon Qui-Gon's shoulders and shook him lightly. "Qui-Gon... are you okay?"

"I'm not sure," Qui-Gon explained. "I know that we talked earlier today."

Mace nodded his agreement. "Yes... at one of the meditation rooms. Do you remember our conversation?" Mace's hands squeezed Qui-Gon's shoulders as he waited for a response. He shot a stern glance at Qui-Gon.

"Yes master... I told you that I'd meet you here." Qui-Gon gave a slight nod as he answered.

Mace continued to stare at Qui-Gon, looking for any signs of fatigue or abnormal behavior. "Qui-Gon... that was hours ago. What have you been doing since then?"

"Hours ago?" Qui-Gon questioned. "But I came straight here."

Mace moved his finger back and forth for Qui-Gon to try to follow with his eyes. He followed it perfectly and Mace could detect nothing strange about Qui-Gon's visual perceptions. "No. You did not come straight here. It's been hours... and besides, if you hadn't been off to do something, you wouldn't have said you'd meet me here."

Qui-Gon thought about the statement. "Well yes... I suppose that's true, but all I recall is coming straight to the chamber."

"What else do you remember about our conversation at the meditation room?" Mace was determined to get some answers.

Qui-Gon Jinn stroked his beard. "I voiced my concerns about the blockade at Naboo." He paused. "Then I came here."

Mace knew that this wasn't making sense and questioned to himself. ‘Where has he been the last few hours?’ The Jedi master shook his head and removed his hands from Qui-Gon's shoulders. "I need you to think, Qui-Gon. Where were you?"

Qui-Gon had a blank expression across his face. Mace had never seen the rebellious Jedi at such a loss for words. Qui-Gon had disobeyed the council many times before, but he always had an adequate explanation for his actions. This time, Qui-Gon couldn't even remember what he had done or where he had been.

"Master Windu... I'm truly drawing a blank. I recall our talk and everything before it, but after the talk all I remember is coming here." Qui-Gon placed a hand upon his forehead.

"Do you even remember why you're meeting me here?" Mace still wanted answers and he was going to be thorough when it came to questioning his fellow Jedi.

Qui-Gon was baffled. "By the stars! No, I don't remember. How can this be?"

Mace sensed Qui-Gon's distress about the realization, and a bit of embarrassment as well. With thumb and forefinger upon his own chin, Mace answered. "I'm not sure." Talking calmly, he continued. "We'll have to probe your mind I suppose... but first let me tell you why we were to meet." Perhaps this tactic would jolt Qui-Gon's recollection. "We are here to bid farewell to your friend Jedi Master Sifo-Dias." Mace waited a moment, and then asked "Does that help?"

Qui-Gon thought about master Sifo-Dias and remembered his relocation request. "Oh... yes. His transfer back to Ossus!" Qui-Gon allowed himself a smile, for he was finally able to give Mace an answer, but his bewilderment soon returned. "Is that really today... already?"

Mace gave Qui-Gon another stern look. This was all very suspicious. "Yes Qui-Gon, it's today. And you knew that when we spoke earlier! So how is it that you don't know now?"

Qui-Gon was surprised. "I knew about it when we spoke this afternoon?"

"Yes, you did." Mace spoke plainly.

Qui-Gon had stopped looking at Mace. Instead, he was staring out at the urban panorama, littered with skylanes. "That's right," Qui-Gon said. "I must have known about it when we talked, for I remember discussing it with Obi-Wan this morning." He shook his head, hair billowing as he turned.

It was true. Qui-Gon had known about his friend's relocation to the temple at Ossus, and had discussed it with Obi-Wan earlier that morning. However, with so much happening, such as the new mission to Naboo, the exact day of the transfer had escaped Qui-Gon. "Wait a minute..." Qui-Gon shook his head thoroughly. "If I knew about it this morning, then I should have had plans to see him today."

Mace Windu tilted his head and gave Qui-Gon a curious look.

Qui-Gon shook his head again, this time much slower. "What's going on around here, master?"

Mace knew that Qui-Gon was telling the truth and hiding nothing, which meant that something had caused his memory wipe. Master Windu sensed his fellow Jedi's confusion and attempted to comfort him just like he had done at the meditation room. He placed a hand upon Qui-Gon's shoulder again, and this time rubbed amicably. "Relax, master Jinn, I think the stress of the current Naboo situation is getting to us all. It's okay."

"Where is everyone anyway? Didn't you say I was behind schedule several hours? Did I miss the send-off for Master Dias?"

Mace smiled. "When you hadn't shown up, I took it upon myself to contact the others and reschedule the meeting for this evening."

"Oh." Qui-Gon was impressed.

"I knew you and master Koth would still want to wish him luck, so I arranged the meeting again."

"Thank you master Windu."

Qui-Gon looked up as if he were in a daze, and Mace kept his hand placed firmly upon Qui-Gon's shoulder. They walked over to Mace's chair and stopped.

"Yes, the three of us had a unique relationship," Qui-Gon explained.

Mace looked through the transparisteel of the chamber, gazing at the now indigo sky. The evening was upon them. "The others should be here any moment now. Once you've said your goodbyes, you can go and prepare your apprentice for tonight's journey to Naboo."

Qui-Gon still looked as if he wasn't all there. "Don't you want to probe my mind?"

Mace let Qui-Gon sit in his chair. "You relax for now," Mace Windu said. "We can perform the probe after the meeting. I'll also have you delve into your own mind through the force."

"Okay master." Qui-Gon would cooperate.

To shed a bit more light upon the day's events, Mace planned to summon Obi-Wan for questioning as well, but he kept that thought to himself.

Jedi master Mace Windu spoke softly. "They must be on their way."

Both Jedi looked out at the early night sky. The others should have arrived by now, including Jedi Master Sifo-Dias.

Another awesome update! Now I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens.

Uh-oh, Mace probably should have probed Qui-Gon's mind before the meeting, I'm curious about how this will turn out...

Thanks again for a Great update, I love the story so far and I know it can only ge better. Keep up the great work! I bet Master Yoda can give us some insight on everything that is happening.

Glad you're looking forward to the next installment.

Actually, things get interesting during the meeting. Hopefully, Windu still gets a chance to probe Qui-Gon's mind... and question Obi-Wan!

So thrilled that you are enjoying this. I truly hope that I fulfill your expectations.

And speaking of Yoda... he gets the spotlight soon. You can be sure that he shall provide some insight. Next chapter soon.

As an avid reader of some of your other work, I've just read this and really like it.

As for the latest chapter, I'm amazed at what a close call Qui Gon had; particularly as Sifo-Dias doesn't exactly appear to be himself. I wonder what Yoda and Mace will think at his proper send-off? I look forward to finding out.

The Truth about Sifo-Dias

~Chapter 7~

Horizon

Qui-Gon Jinn stirred, and found himself sitting comfortably upon Mace Windu's soft council chamber chair. He rubbed his eyes with one hand and then looked around.

Surprised to see Jedi Master Yoda standing next to Mace, Qui-Gon shook his head fiercely. He concluded that he must've fallen asleep upon Mace's chair. The last thing he remembered was Mace Windu telling him to relax.

Qui-Gon stood up and walked cautiously towards his fellow Jedi. He was feeling a bit dizzy at first, but by the time he reached the chamber’s transparisteel wall the sensation had gone away.

"Nice of you to join us," Mace said playfully, but Qui-Gon gave no response. There was a look upon Qui-Gon's face that Mace could only interpret as shock.

Mace Windu cocked an eyebrow, and stared at his friend.

Qui-Gon was absolutely baffled. He had suddenly realized that it was no longer night. He could have sworn that he and Master Windu had both gazed at the evening sky just moments ago. He looked out at Coruscant with amazement. The sun loomed close to Coruscant's horizon now. ‘By the stars!’ he said to himself. ‘How can this be?’

The council chamber at the Jedi temple was one of the few places upon the planet where the horizon could be seen. A person could see quite far along whichever directional heading they chose. Buildings and skylane traffic touched the clouds, but due to the chamber’s loftiness, nothing obscured the mighty horizon.

The three Jedi stood close to the transparisteel. It gave them an awe-inspiring view of the beautiful orange sky.

The twelve chamber seats were empty now, for most of the Jedi masters had begun with their current assignments. Besides, this wasn't the time of day that the Jedi council members would typically meet.

Qui-Gon kept looking out at the sky. ‘Had there been a reversal of time?’ he questioned to himself. Knowing that anything was possible through the force, he didn't disregard the thought.

Once again, Mace placed his hand upon Qui-Gon's shoulder and lightly rubbed. "Are you alright?" Mace asked this with much concern.

To avoid further embarrassment, Qui-Gon decided to keep this bizarre occurrence to himself. "Yes, master... I'm okay."

Qui-Gon's behavior had been quite strange ever since he arrived at the chamber, and Mace didn't want to bother him with even more questions, so he let it go. Besides, Mace planned to get some answers by probing Qui-Gon's mind and interrogating Obi-Wan about the day's events.

Jedi master Yoda had joined Mace and Qui-Gon at the chamber, although Qui-Gon had no recollection of his arrival. It was Yoda's responsibility to survey master Sifo-Dias before his return to Ossus.

Mace Windu had the honor of organizing the friendly send off but so far Qui-Gon and Yoda were the only ones to arrive.

Busy reading a datapad, Yoda seemed to be oblivious to Qui-Gon's strange behavior. However, when the diminutive Jedi master had arrived to find Qui-Gon slumbering, Mace told him all the details of the memory lapse.

All three Jedi were wondering where Sifo-Dias was. Yoda broke the concerned yet relaxed silence. "Taken from Ossus, our much needed strength can be."

Mace began to back away from the view. "Yes, as matters escalate here, the talented Jedi from that temple must undoubtedly be used."

The three Jedi were all concerned about Sifo's whereabouts, but Qui-Gon Jinn seemed to be feeling the most uneasy. He was doing his best to ignore his strange perceptions. ‘Perhaps I dreamt that it was nightfall,’ he thought to himself, and then mentioned the issue at hand. "Throughout the weeks he's been here, master Sifo-Dias has never been tardy for anything. Where is he?"

Mace grabbed Qui-Gon by the arm and attempted to calm him through the force. He had to admit to himself that something was quite mysterious about Qui-Gon's behavior today. "Master Koth hasn't arrived yet either..." As Mace spoke those words, Jedi master Eeth Koth entered the council chamber. Mace and Qui-Gon smiled at each other due to the coincidence.

The Jedi exchanged pleasantries. Eeth Koth, a Zabrak Jedi of orange-brownish complexion, pondered about where his friend might be. "Well, perhaps he just doesn't know about it... Master Yoda, is that possible?"

Yoda's diminutive stature was complemented nicely by the panoramic view. He turned away from the stellar glow. Backlit by a radiant yellow-orange, Yoda approached his appointed chair. The other Jedi all thought that this particular scene added to Yoda's already intimidating presence. Just talking with Yoda proved to be inspirational for other masters, not that the tiny Jedi needed any further praise. Yoda pondered, as if in a trance.

"Master?" Mace inquired, but there was no response yet.

Realizing that Yoda wasn't going to respond, master Koth took the chance to speak. "I apologize for not getting here earlier... padawan trouble of course."

Qui-Gon laughed at the mention of padawan trouble. Then he realized he had no idea where Obi-Wan was. Qui-Gon had sent him to prepare for the trip to Naboo, but it had been evening already. Now, the sun was setting, bringing about dusk. Again, Qui-Gon kept his alarming confusion to himself.

Eeth continued to speak. "Did we already miss him?" he asked.

"No." Yoda answered louder than expected. "About this meeting, impossible that he doesn't know."

Eeth Koth, who was also a Zabrak Jedi like master Dias, seemed to have become closest with him throughout these last few weeks. In fact, they looked quite similar. Even their skin colorization matched. "As we know, things are done quite differently at Ossus. Perhaps they just don't perform this acknowledgement."

Qui-Gon Jinn had also become close with master Sifo-Dias, but most of the other Jedi thought the Zabrak from Ossus was too quiet and reserved. With the exception of speaking to Qui-Gon and Eeth, Jedi master Sifo-Dias had usually kept to himself.

Master Jinn nodded and added to Eeth's comment. "That makes sense... just last week he didn't even know what the concordance meeting was about until we explained it to him." As he spoke those words, something was jarred within Qui-Gon's psyche. ‘Last week?’ he wondered. ‘Didn't I perform that ritual today?’ Qui-Gon shook away the bizarre thought.

"But he swore he was just going through an off day," Eeth explained. "Honestly, I don't think they stick to the rules out there... they're just so spectacular as it is." Eeth was speaking of the efficiency at Ossus.

"That might be true, but master Dias should know about the meeting because it's as sacred as any other concordance... unless of course, he's going through another off day," Mace said, dripping with sarcasm.

It seemed that Mace and Yoda never really took a shine to the Zabrak sent to them from Ossus. And conversely, it seemed that Qui-Gon and Eeth were extra amicable towards the Jedi master.

Mace looked at the chronometer upon his portable datapad. The dark blues of twilight started to swallow the temple. "Well, whatever the story is, you guys need to get back to your padawans. Both of your missions start within the next few hours."

"Adjourned this meeting is," Yoda said suddenly. "Begin your assigned missions you must." Yoda seemed quite perturbed. He took Mace's personal datapad and pressed a button.

The other three Jedi were all standing to the front of Yoda's chair.

Yoda then connected Mace's datapad to a portable holocam console. He was looking for master Sifo-Dias through the limited holocam displays that the console offered. Yoda seemed to be obsessed with his work.

Noticing how Qui-Gon and Eeth were being put off by Yoda, Mace told them how much their presence was appreciated. Mace hoped it would help to counteract being snubbed by master Yoda.

Again, Mace noticed that Qui-Gon appeared to be in a daze.

"But wasn't I supposed to take something from him?" Qui-Gon asked, his voice sounding as if he were in a trance.

"No Qui-Gon, the meeting is off now, so you must go to Obi-Wan.” Mace paused. “Tell your padawan that he is to report to me before you leave for Naboo."

Mace and Eeth each had one hand upon Qui-Gon's respective shoulders.

"Are you okay, my friend?" master Koth asked Qui-Gon.

Qui-Gon Jinn shook his head and looked fine again. "Yes, yes... I believe I just need to get out of the temple for a while."

Eeth Koth brightened. "Ah, glad to hear it. You better be ready for our sparring match aboard the Radiant."

"Indeed I am," Qui-Gon said. They were both scheduled to leave within the next few hours along with their padawans aboard the Radiant. After a hyperspace jump, they would split up and go their separate ways aboard other crafts of the Radiant series; Qui-Gon with Obi-Wan to Naboo and Eeth Koth with his apprentice to Dantooine.

Mace was now actually pushing them towards the exit, but stopped about halfway there. They got the picture. "Do not be concerned... Yoda and I shall wish master Sifo-Dias the best of luck for you both," Mace assured. "May the force be with you."

Yoda was still engrossed with using the portable console. Suddenly, he took notice of everyone. "May the force be with you," he said loudly to both Qui-Gon and Eeth, just slightly embarrassed about ignoring them for the last few minutes. His mad search upon the portable console was done. He had checked all available holocams.

Qui-Gon and Eeth Koth both bowed. Then they said "May the force be with you" in unison. After that, they left to prepare their padawans for the missions. Mace would probe Qui-Gon’s mind just before they boarded the Radiant.

Yoda and Mace looked at each other sternly. It was time for business.

Yoda stood and waved his gimer stick as he spoke to Mace. "Locate him I could not." And Yoda had seen practically every Jedi through the holocams of the portable console, but not master Sifo-Dias. "Shown up yet has the ship?"

Mace pulled out a palm-sized transmission module and pointed to it. "I've already checked. The transport for master Dias should have been at the docking bay an hour ago. No sign of it. We can't even hail it."

Yoda didn't need anymore time to think. He headed for the exit. "To the surveillance rooms we must go."

Interesting. I'm starting to really wonder what's going on. Maybe they'll be able to get some answers before Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan have to leave. thinking
