1.15

I was born to kill. Even I, who know so little of anything but the present, realize this. The little history that I know, it is not honestly recalled, only learned. My lord has taught me all, and without him I am nothing. He is the reason why I kill. He is the reason why I breathe, and though he has been with me since my youth I do not even know he is name. He is just the lord, my great Master. He might have been a Jedi once. If so he is no longer. He is tainted, he is vile, he is the Darkness, and I serve him ever. That is all I know.

Presently the Empire rules, Rebellion stirs. I bear no connection to either. I only serve my lord, and he bids me to be a maiden of wrath, a lady of slaughter. His enemies--though I know not why they are such--are mine as well. Whoever my master marks for death, I shall be the hand by which death comes.

I am Seph Danthar. The last of my kind, so I’m told. The world of my birth is dead--its name forgotten, as if it were ever known--the sorcerers and their enemies who extended the place’s life by a mere thousand or two thousand years have now failed. All are dead, and I am the sole heir of that death. I begin this log in the hopes that maybe through my deeds, and my recording of them, that I shall come to some sort of understanding. I will always obey my Master, whatever I uncover. I only seek release from this ignorance.

On to my present assignment: Mission 48
Target: San Markus
Age: 53
Occupation: Imperial Captain, stationed in the Scourge Sector
Other Information: Secretly linked with the most vocal of Emperor Palpatine’s adversaries (Well known members of the Imperial Senate, who need no mention here). Markus plans to aid cells of Rebels gathered in the aforementioned sector, and perhaps to instigate and encourage skirmishes in which the Empire would fare poorly...

And now time for an update...

_______

1.27

I’ve been at my new post for almost a week and a half. So far nothing much has happened, as tomorrow is our first date to deliver Markus’s supplies to the Rebels on Raj Major. But I say our as if it’s an already recorded fact. My Sector Security comrades are Marl Brantnor and Gam Nars, the former a typical Madalorian, who sports huge muscles and innumerable battle scars. Nars couldn’t be more different. He’s quite slim and looks more so next to Brantnor, and he’s very handsome--not someone I’d lose it over, but it would be almost like lying if I skimmed over the fact. Supposedly Nars has been apart of the S.S.S. (Scourge Sector Security) for nearly four years and he doesn’t look like he’s even been in a small cantina scuffle.

The three of us met Captain Markus, not even an hour after my arrival. We shuttled to the Wroth, his Star Destroyer, and a small cadre of Stormtoopers escorted us to his private briefing room.

Markus was a stiff man, somewhat hard-faced, with slight wrinkles encircling his eyes and mouth and he had a head of once black hair that was now mostly grey. He flagged the troopers out, and during a quiet moment he looked over us. Then the Captain hit a red button a top his sparsely decorated desk, and a light flashed beside it. He was recording us, and I wondered why. It was standard Imperial procedure, but this was no standard Imperial “Getting-the-rules-straight” session.

“You,” Markus said, almost harshly as his eyes rested on Brantnor, “Give me your information.”

“Name: Marl Brantnor. S.S.S ID 113058. Third District Chief,” Brantnor replied, his booming voice even harsher.

“Very good, and you.”

Markus was now eyeing Nars with a hint of skepticism. Apparently a man with long, blond hair--with a golden earring in his left ear, I’d just been noticing--did not strike him as worthy security personnel, either.

After a moment, almost as if Nars had been enjoying the unspoken jab, said, “I’m Gam Nars-- S.S.S. number 131138, if you’d rather--Security Team Five, Mark I.”

Nars smiled as he spoke, his tone almost like a soft breeze in comparison to Brantnor’s.

Markus coughed, the sound laced with contempt. Then he looked at me, gratefully with much less disbelief.

“You?” he ordered.

“Ahnna Frauleen.” I gave the name I’d chosen for the mission, using a mixed accent, somewhat thick but beautiful and easy to understand. “Of Security Team Eleven, Mark II. S.S.S. number 298016.”

He looked over us again, quite thoroughly, noting every scar, every smooth feature, and it seemed every speck of light that danced off my tied-back grey hair. Soon Markus began what seemed, at first, like a normal Imperial speech.

“I would say I am happy to be acquainted with the three of you, but I would be a liar then. Because the Scourge Sector lies near the Outer Rim, you people seem to think yourselves… unburdened… by Imperial Law. You are much deceived, and it is the Will of our most gracious Emperor Palpatine that we reel you back into place. You will not be marked as traitors yet, but the Empire has come to your doorstep to watch and regulate all your behaviors. Now--”

Suddenly Markus pounded his fist on his desk--on the recording device, which immediately hissed in violent protest--and as he held his fist there, the recorder continued hissing. I’ll admit that this even made me jump.

“You three are my contacts with the Rebellion,” Markus said, and I gave a quick nod, as if it had been a question.

“There are set dates where you will deliver supplies to their base, attend meetings on my behalf, and there are also future plans were you will enact any orders I give you.”

Now, as I was watching him closely, he pounded the device again and this time relented hold. He didn’t startle me this time.

The hissing stopped. The red light glowed regularly again and he shouted, “Damn this thing!

“The Wroth has been stationed here for no less than three standard months. Other Star Destroyers are on Standby in case the need arises, which pray you it does not. The Empire will not stand for insolence or any other--”

Markus pounded the thing again and even ground his knuckles into it as it whined. I saw some blood.

“I dub you the Shadow Wraiths, for you must be shadowlike and wraithlike. When on my business, you must lose your true identities, become fully the Shadow Wraiths. Have you all picked codenames?”

We nodded, and Brantnor answered first.

“Basilisk.”

Then Nars said, “Abadonesh.”

This surprised me, and at the time I wondered if he had known that Abadonesh was the name of an ancient Sith world. I fought through my wondering quickly enough to say my Wraith identity, “Valkyria.”

“Good. This is who you will be, and if you are ever found out, know that I will not be taken down with you. I may be no friend to Palpatine’s rule, but I am not willing to suffer his wrath unless, or until, my own mistakes place me there.”

Markus slammed the recorder again and relented. This time some fresh blood flew from his hand. When the machine came back to life, at least somewhat, the Captain growled at it.

“As I have said, the Eye of the Emperor is upon you. Tell everyone--your staff, friends, and family--that Imperial Might has come and will not suffer any further insolence. You will hear from me again, and at regular intervals.

“Now leave me, and let maintenance know that someone ought to come and fix this bloody recorder.”

So we left then. We have not seen or heard from Markus since, but as I have said the first supply run is tomorrow, and early, so I’d better go get some sleep.

Nice update. Hmm. In your first post Seph says "I was born to kill." but in this post it seems more like an intel gathering type of mission. I wonder, will Seph really kill him? Time will tell. grin

Thanks, both of you, for your replies happy

And now I'm going to try something I've never sucessfully done before. I'm adding a new piece of art, a drawing of Magnus Grond, Seph's master. Keep in mind that I'm not all that good at non-abstract art, but I don't think it's too awful.

Now let's see if this takes...

And now it's time for another update. A bit morbid at the end but I don't think it's too bad... Famous last words tongue

__________

1.30

Well, it’s been a few days since I’ve written here, but not for lack of things to write about. Quite the opposite. There’s so much on my mind at present that I can hardly concentrate on anything else. My Master would be most displeased. Just because I’m not very Force-sensitive doesn’t mean he does not expect my best. At least I haven’t faltered in any of these lesser duties that I must perform as I await my true task.

I’ve hardly slept. I didn’t get nearly as much sleep as I would have hoped for following my last log entry. The main reason, I might get into later, however it will suffice to say that after I finished writing, Nars showed up. Both a good thing and a bad thing… maybe. We’ll have to see…

I should get to telling what happened the next day with our first trip to the rebel base, and I will, but later… That night when I actually thought a decent night’s sleep was at hand, I had a dream, likely sent to me by my lord and master because of my current feelings. I’ve not spoken of them here yet, but I suppose it’s more important that I thought.

And now it’s time for .....
GrondsWrath
.....

Now I’m entering under my crypt code. I’ve already crypt coded my first entry. I won’t venture to thinking about what would happen if my mission failed just because I had to make a record of things. It would likely be ghastly, especially if I had to make the return trip to my Master. I’d rather have the whole of the Empire and the Rebellion after me than suffer his wrath...

But on to the dream…

I had descended into a web of blackness. I couldn’t help shuddering at its ominous familiarity. I knew I was in my lord’s Citadel. I have mentioned that my homeworld is a dead place, that all my people are no more, there are no animals and nothing grows in that barren place, that its name has long been lost in the past… into the void… Still this is where my Master calls home. The Citadel was once a place called the Keep, where my sorcerer ancestors observed their vile practices. The castle is sometimes used, but mainly we dwell in the depths, in a bleak, dank unending network of caves.

There is a vast oval room in the middle of these, my Master’s meditation chamber, and in my dream--despite the utter blackness, maybe because of it--I knew I was there, and I my emotions consumed me.

I began this record with the statement of ‘I was born to kill’, and it is true. On most of the dozens of missions I’ve been on I have been able to kill not only viciously but swiftly as well. Not so this time, and the wait was, and still is, driving me mad. I want San Markus’s blood dripping on me--pouring on me--and I want it now. And yet I have to stay my hand for Force knows how long.

“Why!” I not only heard myself scream, but I felt it shake the room slightly.

It couldn’t have been much more than a few seconds before my Master arrived. Even in this complete darkness I could see his crimson eyes blazing at me and into me, and suddenly I could feel him approaching. Vague, as if from a great distance, I could hear his regal purple robes swishing.

I trembled before him, and I whispered, “Why, my Lord? Why must I wait?”

He laughed a little, revaling a hint of malicious enjoyment.

“I should have told you beforehand,” he said, “Before now, you’ve scarcely had to wait so long, but I wanted you to feel this--to wait and watch as your own waiting practically tore you apart; I knew it would--Still, there is another reason, aside from that.”

My Master paused, as if to punish me further with the torture of waiting and so that I could feel his ridicule. And that punishment I did feel, but it was dulled by relief. At least for now he clearly deemed physical sadism unnecessary.

“Understand, my young Dantharian, that your present target is an important man, and an Imperial no less. You cannot just spring upon him like a feral nexu, as you so desire to. Patience must be exercised here at all costs, or at least waiting should be. Whether you deal with the fact patiently is your affair, so long as you strike when I command.”

I nodded. “Yes, my Lord.”

“Good… good….”

A moment after he spoke the dozens of torches bracketed to the walls blazed to life, and I saw my Master towering over me. His eyes were still more vibrant than the flames and even more commanding. The heavy torchlight added to the horror of his other features, especially his age-worn alabaster skin.

I had to look away, and as my eyes descended I saw a body laying at my knees between us. I saw the headless corpse and noticed it wore the garb of an Imperial captain but before I could take in any more the lights dimmed.

Suddenly I saw my Master stretching out his claw-like hands, and even though there was little light, his long red nails seemed to glimmer before me. Then before I could even blink his talons were no longer empty; he seemed to be holding a strange bowl. I didn’t look at it. Somehow I couldn’t. I could now only look into my Master’s eyes.

“My gift for you, Dantharian,” he said and I took his offering. “Drink it.”

I lifted the bowl to my lips, and suddenly I realized it wasn’t a bowl. I’d seen San Markus’s face, his eyes dead but seeming to stare at me. Markus’s body was clearly the one before me then, and this was his head, with his scalp and his skullcap removed.

“Drink…” my Master bid me and so I did, drinking on and on with macabre relish.

And I awoke then. My hunger for Markus’s blood was greater than ever.

Delightfully macabre.

_________

2.2

With as busy and draining as things have been I almost thought that we’d have to make a trip or two more to the Rebel base before I even had a chance to write about our first excursion. Nars is helping nothing, showing up when I actually manage to have time to myself. I almost want to hire Brantnor to bash that pretty boy’s head in. I’d do it myself, except I have stringent orders to stick to my target.

And still there’s something about Nars, something that draws me to him. He knows things, I feel. That for some reason he holds at least a few of the answers I seek. I wish I knew why I felt this way. Maybe it’s because he’s called himself Abadonesh, and maybe because he’s always studying something which brings a look of dark satisfaction to his face, and I have seen much dark satisfaction over the years.

But I promise not to write anything else about Nars unless it either relates to our business or I find out what his mysterious knowledge is.

And now to the facts I meant to write down days ago, our supply run to the Rebels.

We awoke early that morning. In fact we arrived at Bay 11 before 0430 hours. After a few hours loading cargo we traveled from Outpost IX (the space station, which serves as S.S.S. headquarters and obits Raj Major) to the planet below. Raj Major is a quiet world, oddly placed dead center in the Scourge. It’s a green, lush, and often bypassed place. Occasionally its residents have escalating quarrels concerning the borderlands, and once or twice the S.S.S. has discovered hidden groves of plants that secrete intoxicants suitable for making deathsicks and enhancing radorish tobacco.

The Rebels have set up their operations in the Southern Queensland (Marquan is the country’s official name), in a network of caves. There’s only one place to land amidst the rocky terrain and it’s only easy to find if you know where it is. Thankfully we did.

The three of us exited the Yin, an old and non-descript Corellian hauler; we were dressed in obscuring brown robes, looking much like the bygone Jedi. Brantor led us toward the caves since he was highest in rank, and he must have seemed very threatening even in his robes because of his bulk and stiff, stalking gait.

Even in the dim light we could clearly see the three figures waiting for us. The leftmost was the most obvious because he was a Wookiee. The hairy figure was clad in a green ceremonial sash, embroidered by many silvery rectangles, and he held his bowcaster across his chest, as if he would give us the benefit of the doubt for a second or two.

The rightmost was a Mersighdonian youth, his red skin only a few slight shades darker than his vest and trousers. He held a vibroblade at his side, his long fingered hands shaking as if he could barely stay himself from striking.

Both of the men came from species known for their height and they almost dwarfed the center figure, a green-robed human female in her early twenties.

The woman looked slightly stern with her flame-red hair tied back, and she gave a semi courteous bow as we stopped before her.

Then she said, “Before you can go further, tell us your names and affiliation and why you have come. Speak acceptably and we will let you pass.”

The wookiee gave an affirmative growl.

Brantnor replied, “I am Basilisk, and these are my comrades Abadonesh and Valkyria.”

“We are the Shadow Wraiths,” I added, and Nars, alongside me, finished our introduction.

“We are sent from San Markus, today to deliver supplies, but as whole to serve you in any capacity that you see fit.”

“Indeed. That’s acceptable.” Then the woman pulled out a comm-link. “Lower the ship, and make sure the unloading team is prepared to proceed, but with caution, of course.”

“Proceeding as ordered, Commander Mothma,” a male voice responded from the link.

“A precaution you must understand.”

Brantnor grunted and I nodded, and suddenly a loud noise sounded behind us. The landing pad, along with the Yin, disappeared. The ground shook beneath us, the surrounding trees gave up a small shower of leaves.

When then mechanical hissing and grinding stopped, this Commander Mothma said, “Now come, follow me. Symeon--our Sector leader--would like to meet with you.”

We entered into the caves, the labyrinth, despite being far more brightly lit reminded me of my Master’s Citadel. I tried to keep my breathing regular.

Nars spoke first.

“So, Commander, are you any relation to Senator Mothma?”

Mothma glanced back at us, but none of us stopped.

“Yes, she’s my cousin, twice removed, of course, and I’m sorry for forgetting the introductions. I’m Noral Mothma, and these are my guards, Grannarr,” Mothma gestured toward the wookiee, and then to the Mersighdonian, “and Pryth Lentul.

“Sometimes, even though we’re not officially at war, things can be so tense that we can forget the pleasantries. And admittedly this new alliance with Markus…”

The Wookiee gave a soft, warning growl.

“I do trust him, but feel that caution is still the best choice.” Mothma looked at the Wookiee as she spoke to us, as if to calm him.

“You may trust him, Commander, but I don’t. Not at all,” Lentul said, glaring at us.

Grannarr gave another warning growl, this one more intense, but before things could get potentially dangerous Mothma cleared her throat and said, “Ah, here we are. Symeon’s office.”

I couldn’t see anything on the wall she was looking at, except what looked like a small vent. Mothma spoke into it.

“It’s Noral, Symeon. The Shadow Wraiths are with me.”

Suddenly the wall began sliding open, revealing a somewhat small room with a meeting table that could seat a dozen people almost comfortably. Three people were sitting near the head of it already, all human, but two of them I couldn’t concentrate on. My eyes locked on this Symeon, who could be none other than Symeon Karath, one of the most wanted men in all the galaxy. Symeon Karath, a former Imperial Intel, who went mad and killed nearly all the men on his outpost. Symeon Karath, San Markus’s supposedly disowned nephew.

Oh, don’t tell me! The door chime just sounded. It better not be Nars, or I will bash his head in and to hell with any orders!

Boy, I must be good at that because this is the second story, that I can remember, that you've described like that at some point

I heard that line in a video game or something once and it stuck with me. I really like it.

I wouldn't say that was a bad post. It seems to be a set things up/introduction type of post which is necessary in any story.
