EGKenobi: Thanks Master! hugs

So here's the next chapter. I hope you enjoy it! Oh and I nearly forgot: thanks to EGKenobi for betaing this kiss

Chapter 7: The Dream

Somewhere in The Works:
A shadowy figure entered the old abandoned factory he’d made into his secret office. Once he was sure he was alone, he immersed himself completely in the Dark Side for what he intended to do was only possible if you were deep in community with the Force not to mention a Master in manipulating it. As soon as he was in the proper state of mind he reached out to the bright consciousness of his victim and channeled his power together with the victims fear in a nightmare which he was sure of would haunt the young man even after waking.
Having done his work the shadow let a satisfied but cruel smile creep over is countenance. Yes, his plan would certainly succeed.

The Jedi Temple, MedCenter:
Anakin slept peacefully in his chair beside Obi-Wan’s bed, dreaming of Padme and him on Naboo after their marriage, but suddenly the happy scene dissolved into something darker. The pictures in his mind were now blurred, but one picture was crystal-clear and grew larger and larger. He saw his Padme her face a grimace of pain and her desperate screams echoed in his head until he wanted to clap his hands over his ears and shut the sound out. Frozen in horror he was forced to witness how his beautiful angel screamed one last time and went limp, the light leaving her eyes forever.

Obi-Wan awoke in the middle of the night, not knowing why exactly he’d awoken until he sensed Anakin’s distress through the Force. He quickly looked at Anakin and aw that the young man was twitching and sweating. ‘He must have a nightmare’ Obi-Wan thought and was alarmed when Anakin began to moan softly ‘Padme no, no’. Obi-Wan got up and sat down next to Anakin, holding him gently in his arms and sending him calming waves through the Force. After some time Anakin visibly relaxed and soon both of them were asleep again, Obi-Wan still embracing Anakin.
*************************************************************************************************
In the morning Anakin awoke, his dream still vivid in his mind and was surprised (and a bit embarrassed) that he’d slept in Obi-Wan’s arms, who was still sleeping peacefully. ‘I must have really worried him’ he thought, considering that Obi-Wan usually never showed any signs of affection. Anakin stirred a bit, trying not to wake his friend, but Obi-Wan was instantly awake. He blinked sleepily.
“What’s the time?” he asked and got up, releasing Anakin, who stretched his arms.
“It’s still early in the morning. I’m sorry that I disturbed you.” Anakin replied.
“Oh never mind.” Obi-Wan said cheerfully, but then he sobered again. “Did you have a bad dream?”
“Kind of. But it seemed so real.” Anakin shuddered. He obviously didn’t want to speak about it, but Obi-Wan had other ideas.
“A vision?” he asked, probing.
“I hope not, but… I believe it was one.” Anakin admitted.
“Concerning what?” Obi-Wan wanted to know. Anakin didn’t answer. Obi-Wan sighed. “Anakin, I heard you calling ‘Padme no’ over and over in your sleep. Was the vision about her?”
“Why should I dream about Senator Amidala?” Anakin asked, trying to hide his sudden panic. Obi-Wan sighed again. He didn’t even need to use the Force to notice Anakin’s panic. His former Padawan had never mastered the ability to school his futures into impassivity. Although still hurt by Anakin’s stubborn refusal to confide in him, Obi-Wan had long ago made peace with the fact that Anakin didn’t trust him enough to tell him his secret. A part of him understood that, but often he wondered what he’d done or maybe more importantly not done to make Anakin doubt his commitment to him.
“Anakin I’m not as blind as you seem to think I am. I know very well that you two have been in love for nearly three years by now and that you sneak out to visit her as often as possible.”
“How did you know?” Anakin asked horrified. How could Obi-Wan have found that out? He had always been careful to hide his intentions and shielded heavily around his former Master to conceal his feelings for Padme. For a moment he even felt angry at Obi-Wan. Why did he have to meddle in his affairs? He was a grown man now and didn’t need to be parented by anybody.
“You were my Padawan for nearly thirteen years Anakin and I care about you quite a lot. Most of the time I know what’s on your mind.” Obi-Wan answered, thinking of the countless times he’d prevented disaster because he’d felt what Anakin was going to do, or all the hours spent on soothing his troubled apprentice’s mind after a nightmare.
“But why am I still a Jedi then? Why did the council…?” Anakin stammered. With a sting of guilt Anakin could clearly see the sorrow in his former Master’s gaze as Obi-Wan asked softly, “So that’s why you never told me? You thought I would tell the Council as it is my duty?” Anakin sat there completely dumbfounded. His by the book former Master had ignored a whole bunch of important rules only to help him? Sometimes Anakin really asked himself if he deserved a friend like Obi-Wan.
“You didn’t tell the Council?!”
“I couldn’t bring myself to do it. You were so much happier.” He wanted to add something, but couldn’t for Anakin hugged him again and he needed no words to express his gratitude towards Obi-Wan.
“Now will you tell me about your dream?” Obi-Wan inquired.
“I saw Padme dying in childbirth.” Anakin answered.
“Childbirth?” echoed Obi-Wan flabbergasted.
Anakin blushed. “Padme’s pregnant.” Obi-Wan stared at him wide-eyed, quickly quelling the anger which threatened to rise in him at all the things Anakin had kept from him. Soon his worry for Anakin took hold of him again. In what planet-sized mess did Anakin get himself this time?
“Please tell me you’re joking, Anakin.”
Anakin shuffled his feet. “No Master. I’m serious.”
“Oh dear.” Obi-Wan groaned, partly because of the revelation, partly because his ribs had chosen this moment to protest against the movement. He sat down on the bed hard. How was he going to get Anakin out of this one without getting him expelled?
“What am I going to do now?” Anakin asked desperately, mirroring Obi-Wan’s thoughts.
“Besides undoing it?” Obi-Wan asked dryly, quirking an eyebrow. Anakin shot him an annoyed ‘now is not the time for sarcasm look’ look and Obi-Wan sobered again.
“Whatever will come, I will be there and help you Anakin, I promise.” Obi-Wan said, meaning every word of it.
“Thanks Obi-Wan.” Anakin told him gratefully.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
At that moment Bant hurried towards them. “Anakin, the Council just told me that the Chancellor requested you.” she said. Obi-Wan and Anakin exchanged a puzzled look.
“What for?” Anakin wanted to know.
“I have no idea, but you should hurry.” Bant answered. Anakin got up.
“Bye Obi-Wan, I’ll drop by later.” he said and disappeared through the door, wondering why the Chancellor wanted to see him.

Sorry for the long wait everybody, but finally: Here's the next update! As always thanks to EG Kenobi for taking the time to go over this kiss

Chapter 8: Revelation

Anakin flew his speeder through the Senate District towards the Senate Building, which looked gigantic, even from far away. As usual he paid no mind to the extravagant buildings around him, having long before lost his childish awe of most Senators’ luxury apartments.

Except for one.

He looked especially longingly at his wife’s apartment for he wanted nothing more than to reassure himself that she was safe and alright, but, as it had been too often lately, duty called and he had to make do with a long gaze at her window.

Having landed at one of the Chancellor’s private docking bays near his office, Anakin strode purposefully
through the red-carpeted halls. Having been there more times than he could count already to visit the Chancellor.

As always there were two red-clad guards standing silently and alert on either side of the door to the office, but they let Anakin through without hesitation, so Anakin entered the plush office with its scarlet carpet and elegantly curved walls and furniture. It was always silent here, but out of a reason he didn’t know.

Anakin had never noticed that before. It was as if sounds were just absent. Before he could think about that more, however, he was greeted by Palpatine, who sat in his chair behind the conference table before the big window. It was rumored that Palpatines office had the best view on the Senate District of the whole planet.

“Ah, hello Anakin. Please take a seat.” Plapatine invited him with a smile, pleased that he’d come so soon for the less time he had to think about the dream he’d sent and tell somebody about it, the better his chances were at winning him over.

Anakin sat down besides the Chancellor.

“I wanted to thank you for rescuing me. I don’t know what would’ve happened to the republic if I’d been killed or worse.” Palpatine said, beginning the talk with a harmless subject.

“I’m honored your Excellency.” Anakin replied and asked himself if that was the only reason the Chancellor had called him for?

“You deserve this honor Anakin. After all you slew Count Dooku and General Grievous.”

“Oh no Chancellor. Not me, but Master Kenobi killed Grievous.” Anakin protested.

“But would he have been able to do so without your help?” Palpatine asked.

“Well no, but we were only talking about who actually slew Grievous.” Anakin replied, getting frustrated and asking himself why Palpatine wanted to give him all the credit instead of Obi-Wan.

Now that he thought about it; Palpatine had always done that after every mission since the Clone Wars had started. Mostly when the two of them were alone, but he remembered a few times Palpatine had done that with Obi-Wan being there. Of course being Obi-Wan, his Master had never complained about that, more the opposite actually. He’d never liked all the attention he and Anakin were given as the heroes of the war. As a matter of fact Obi-Wan often teased Anakin about the attention, calling him the poster boy.

“Alright my boy, but you’re too modest.” Palpatine said kindly. “However I didn’t call you here only to thank you, but to tell you a story.”

“A story?” Anakin asked puzzled. He really had better things to do than listening to stories.

“Do you know the legend of ‘Darth Plagueis the Wise’?” Palpatine asked.

“What? No.” Anakin answered even more confused than before. Why in the blazes would the Chancellor tell him a story of a Sith?

“Then I’ll tell you.” And Palpatine, as if telling his favorite nephew a bedtime story, told him of Darth Plagueis’ power to keep people from dying and of his death at the hands of his apprentice, whom he’d taught all he knew.

Anakin was instantly captivated by the story. Could this be chance to save Padme? But he was still confused. How did the Chancellor know this story? He decided to ask him.

“How do you know this story?”

“I was there.” The evenly, even nonchalantly, spoken words sent a chill down Anakin’s spine.

“You were there?” Anakin gasped. Normally Palpatine wouldn’t have revealed himself so fast, but the negotiations were coming to an end and he had to hurry if his plans were to succeed.

“I was the apprentice. I know the power to prevent people from dying, to prevent your wife from dying.” he said cunningly. Anakin froze. The thought of saving Padme struggling against the knowledge that Palpatine was a Sith, someone he shouldn’t be helped of. In his mind he saw pictures of Jabiim, of Muunlist and all the other worlds that had been torn apart by the war. He saw countless dead bodies, innocent lives taken out of brutality, many friends of his dead, Obi-Wan tortured and all in the name of this man he’d thought to be his friend?

In the end he could only stammer anger rising in him, “You’re the Sith Lord.”

So guys, here's the next chapter. I hope somebody is still reading... worried

Chapter 9: Decisions

“Does that make me evil Anakin? I’m still your friend and I beg you, learn the power of the Dark Side and save Padme’s life.” Palpatine implored.

But Anakin had already his lightsaber activated and pointing at is throat.

“So you’re Darth Sidious.” he said, fury in every word. Palpatine’s voice shook him out of his thoughts.

“Yes, I am.” Palpatine told him calmly. “And I can help you to become the greatest Jedi who has ever lived.”

But Anakin didn’t want to hear anything more. He had enough problems with controlling is anger and not killing Palpatine.

“I’m turning you over to the Jedi.” he announced and stormed through the door, leaving Sidious behind, feeling a bit anxious but still sure that he would win Anakin over.

****************************************************************

Jedi Temple, MedCenter:

Anakin burst through the doors of the MedCenter and Obi-Wan knew at once that something was wrong. Anakin was deadly pale and sweating and Obi-Wan could sense a mix of anger, despair, fear and confusion radiating from him through the Force.

“Anakin! What’s wrong?” Obi-Wan asked concerned for he’d never seen Anakin in such a state. Anakin collapsed onto the chair next to the bed and buried his face in his hands.

“Anakin?” Obi-Wan asked, his concern changing to alarm.

“It was him. It was him all along.” Anakin moaned softly. He seemed near breakdown. Obi-Wan got up and sat besides Anakin on the other chair. He laid a warm and comforting hand on Anakin’s shoulder and tried to soothe his best friend.

“What is it?” he asked gently, still having no clue what Anakin wasc so upset about.

“It’s the Chancellor. When I was at his office he told me some really weird things and then…He’s the Sith Lord, Obi-Wan.”

“What?” Obi-Wan looked totally aghast.

“Obi-Wan you have to believe me! He told me himself!” Anakin cried desperately, fearing that Obi-Wan wouldn’t believe him.

“Sithspit!” Obi-Wan groaned after he’d fully comprehended what that meant. Anakin gaped at him.
After thirteen years he’d only heard Obi-Wan curse a handful of times (even if he suspected that he didn’t get half the times he’d actually done it for Obi-Wan always restrained himself in his presence. He’d obviously thought that that wouldn’t have been helping Anakin’s tendency to voice some colorful language every time he was in trouble.)

“We have to tell the Council about that. Now!” Obi-Wan said determined. He stood up, but still had a few difficulties with his injuries, when Healer Unni came towards them.

“What are you doing out of bed?” she demanded to know.

“We’re going to the Council. A very important matter.” Obi-Wan answered.

“Out of question! You can’t go running through the temple now. Your injuries aren’t fully healed yet and you still need rest.” Healer Unni reminded him sharply.

“It’s a very important matter.” Obi-Wan repeated, stressing the ‘very’.

“Then they can come here. You aren’t going anywhere.” the Healer replied unfazed.

Obi-Wan was loosing his patience.
“I’ll be able to walk through the temple a bit after two days of rest to attend to an extreme important meeting!” he snapped.

“No you’re not!” the Healer snapped back, irritated by the (for Obi-Wan typical) stubbornness.
The scene was so comical, the two Jedi Masters snapping at each other, that Anakin would’ve laughed if not for the situation they were all in. ‘She really should no that Obi-Wan can be more stubborn than a mule’, Anakin thought for his former Master’s stubbornness was legendary among the Jedi.
Meanwhile the two others were arguing fiercely, none willing to back down. There was no end of the dispute in sight so Anakin stepped between them, causing them to fall silent.

“Obi-Wan I’ll go alone. The Healer is right, you need rest.”

“At least someone here has some sense!” the Healer backed him up immediately. Obi-Wan was angry that they’d ganged up on him, but gave in after a few more minutes of arguing.

“Alright, I’ll stay here.” he said not happy at all. “But Anakin please be careful and inform me what goes on.” he urged, worry written on his face.

“I will.” Anakin assured him and set of to find Master Windu or Master Yoda, leaving a still fuming Obi-Wan behind, who was directed back to his bed by the Healer, thinking that his list why he hated to stay at the MedCenter had just gotten considerably longer.

****************************************************************

Anakin hurried through the Temple, nervously asking himself what he should tell the Council. He just hoped they wouldn’t throw him out again because he interrupted one of their so very important meetings before he’d gotten a chance to tell them. Before he could really panic however, the Force reached out to him reassuringly, showing him that he was doing the right thing.

Anakin found Master Windu and most of the Council, including Yoda, in the Jedi-War-Room, a circular room, darkened so that the many holomaps of the battles throughout the galaxy could be seen clearly and with a big round holoprojector in the midst of the room. The neutral dark-grey walls and meager and understated furniture conveyed a businesslike, cool atmosphere to help the Jedi strategists to only concentrate on the battles. At the moment many holograms were either shut off or showed only the remains of a battle-field as the war was as good as over.
Standing around the holoprojector, the Masters were discussing the ongoing negotiations with the Separatist Leaders. He was still a bit shaky, but had managed to regain his composure during his visit of Obi-Wan.

“Master Windu, I have to speak with you.” he said, ignoring the raised eyebrows and disapproving glances from the other Council Members for barging in.

“Skywalker, is something wrong?” Mace asked a bit surprised for he easily felt Anakin’s still somewhat turbulent emotions.

“You knew that the Chancellor asked for me, don’t you?” Anakin asked, just to be sure.

“Well of course.” Mace answered still puzzled.

“I was just there and found out that he’s the Sith Lord.” Anakin said blunty. Mace reacted very similar to Obi-Wan.

“What?” he gasped, totally shocked.

“The Chancellor is the Sith Lord.” Anakin repeated. “He admitted it himself.”

Mace Windu didn’t waste time with asking if he was really sure for he knew that Anakin wouldn’t lie and had even suspected himself that Palpatine was not the man he appeared to be.

“Who else knows?” he asked briskly, knowing that the survival of the entire Jedi Order could depend on this.

“I just told Master Kenobi. He wanted to come, but the Healer forbid it for he’s not well yet.” Anakin replied.
Mace exhaled in relief, though he felt as if the whole galaxy as he knew it was just being torn down around him, but as long as he was still standing he would protect the Jedi and the Republic.

“Very well. We have to act fast if we want to stop Palpatine.” Mace said and conferred to the other Council members for a few minutes, until he announced, “I, Master Tiin, Master Koth and Knight Skywalker will go to the Chancellor’s office now, for Master Kenobi is not well enough and Master Yoda will stay here in case we fail and oversee the evacuation of the Temple.”

Anakin was surprised. He hadn’t known that Mace trusted him that much.

On the way to the Hangar he bid Master Yoda, “Could you please inform Obi-Wan, Master?”

“Do that I will.” Yoda told him gravely, then announced, “Strong you must be for the fight to come, but trust in you I have. May the Force be with you young Skywalker.”

“And with you Master.” Anakin responded, feeling slightly heartened by the wizened Master’s praise. Yoda nodded solemnly and watched as they boarded a LAAT Gunship and disappeared in Coruscant’s night.

****************************************************************

Obi-Wan was famed for his calmness and patience especially in difficult situations, but after the call from Master Yoda he was so worried and nervous that he couldn’t stop images of a dying Anakin from popping into his mind and was reaching out for Anakin every five seconds.
The Force whispered urgently, informing him that his former apprentice needed him now and that feeling got stronger every passing minute.

He swore silently.

He knew that he wasn’t fully recovered and would only be in the way during a fight, but the Force told him rather persistent to go to the Chancellor’s office as fast as he could.
He looked around to see of any Healer was near and when he saw nobody, he grabbed his lightsaber from his bedside-table and left the MedCenter, ignoring the complaints of his still weak and hurting body.

Well, if the Force said go, it is good that Obi-Wan is going but he'd better not get his head lopped off or die in any other manner. I want one death - one - Palps - if any death is to take place.
