The movements were smooth. Practiced. My muscles stretched and held the position. My forearms burning and shaking. I released the position, moving to the next, feeling the force flow through me. It was smooth and calming in a painful way, I supposed. I felt my Obi-Wan enter the room silently and come to stand behind me. His movements joined mine. But I didn’t turn or acknowledge his presence besides the slight shift in my muscles as I switched positions. I ended the last movement with a smooth stroke, releasing my pain through the force.
“Impressive, Anakin,” Obi-Wan said.
“Thank you, master,” I said turning around to face him.
He looked tired with dark circles rimming his eyes. And his eyes still held the haunted look of war that I was sure was mirrored in my own. Temple leave was never long enough to clear away the shadows. But despite it all his eyes still sparkled in a way that was all too familiar.
“There’s no need to call me, master. My former padawan. We are technically equals.”
“Technically,” I said with a charming grin, “Are you not the newly appointed council member. I believe that outranks me.”
"Aaah, but Anakin,” he returned in an easy banter, “I couldn’t possibly stand up to Hero With No Fear.”
I scowled at the idiotic nickname. I gathered my robes from where I had left them and threw them casually over one arm. I palmed open the door and we exited the windowless practice room. Cool air hit us as we entered the conditioned hallway. The hallway led by a row of windows that showed the sun beginning to peak over the top of the buildings. I frantically searched my brain for his latest title, some way to outmaneuver him.
“Aaah, Obi-Wan,” I said patting him on the back in what seemed to be a friendly way.
He looked at me warily. The man simply knew me too well.
“How could I possibly stand in the presence of the Great Negotiator?”
Obi-Wan was not so easily defeated.
“It is I that am honored my friend,” he said, “To be in the presence of the Chosen One. He who will single handedly end the war.”
“Not for lack of trying,” I said cheekily.
Obi-Wan reached his quarters and palmed the door open.
“You should get yourself a padawan,” Obi-Wan said, entering the room
I followed behind him, plopping down on his couch and looking up at him with a look of disbelief.
“You’re talking about me, right?” I asked him.
Obi-Wan let out something akin to a sniff as I lay across his furniture.
“It would help you settle down, learn to not be as reckless, or something akin to that.”
You know, sometimes I worry about Obi-Wan. He has this very strange notion that everyone should be calm. Well okay, technically Jedi are supposed to be calm. There is no emotion, sort of thing. But I can’t live without emotion, no one can. Even Obi-Wan. Emotion is what runs the world. What keeps us going. And recklessness is a perfectly acceptable emotion; it’s helped me several times. And I’m still here. And if I had a padawan, well let’s just say, I don’t think it would end up that well.
“Why don’t you get another padawan,” I suggested, “Might help you learn to be reckless.”
“Because, my dear former padawan, I’m afraid he’ll turn out like you.”
I looked at him with mock offense. I turned around to face him, my face a mask of seriousness.
“How do you know it would be a boy?”
He looked up at the sudden change in conversation.
“That there my dear former master is sexism. Saying that only boys can be reckless.”
Obi-Wan raised his eyebrows in disbelief. Looking at me as if I’d gone insane. I was surprised that he hadn’t gotten used to it. He had lived with me for twelve years after all. But the fact that we’d been at war for the past six months probably had something to do with it. You didn’t really make jokes at war. But there was something about being back around force presences that made my spirits soar.
“So are you saying that any padawan you’d have would be a girl?” he said in a disbelieving tone.
I leaned forward over the coach and looked at him earnestly.
“Why of course it would be,” I said nodding my head energetically.
“I don’t believe you,” he said shaking his head, “If you’re so sure, why don’t you show me which girl you would take on as a padawan.”
“Of course,” I said leaping over the couch and I was half way to the door when I realized I’d been tricked.
Stupid tricky Jedi Master. I turned around to glare at my former master and he smiled innocently as if he hadn’t just tricked me into going to look at padawans.
“Lead the way then Anakin.”

A nice way of showing the effects of the war.

So, Obi-Wan outmanuevered Anakin again. Way to go, Obi!

Very nice, though it would be easier to read with spaces between character's dialogue and paragraphs - some of us have old eyes and use reading glasses. wink

Mace:"Sometimes a Jedi's most important duty is to stand and wait.
I presume you've mentioned that to Anakin on occasion?"
Obi-Wan: "Not more than twice a day."
Proud Padawan to EG Kenobi happy
