Title: The Enforcer II: Enter Madclaw
Author: yodas_waiter
Characters: OCs
Genre: Action
Timeframe: 6 months ABY, 9 months after the events of the Enforcer
Summary: The actions of a terrorist calling himself Madclaw is causing panic on Coruscant forcing Hector Viralte to once again don the armour of the Enforcer whilst at the same time trying to piece together his life after the events of The Enforcer.

And here it is, the sequel which has been lying about on my hard-drive for some time. I've never written a sequel before so it's interesting to continue developing these characters. Let's see how that turns out!

For those that read the first Enforcer and enjoyed it, welcome back. happy

For those who thinks this looks interesting, here's a link to the first story

I'll also provide a quick summary to freshen people's memory:

In The Enforcer, we meet Hector Viralte, an Imperial noble trying to join the Imperial army. He also happens to be something of a playboy and he would spend his time partying rather than studying. However, Hector's arrogance is his undoing as a night of partying makes him fail his aptitude test. Hector gets depressed and starts drinking more and taking more spice. He gets visions of the future and believes this is because of the spice. He overdoses whilst trying to induce more visions and whilst in hospital, he discovers that he can also manipulate objects. Shutting himself from the outside world, he developes his abilities and channels his urge to uphold Imperial order into the Enforcer, a superhero who patrols the lower levels of Coruscant. There he stops hostage situations and bank robberies, turning into an overnight sensation but it all changes when he comes upon a group of Imperial youths beating an Ithorian to death. He brings the dead Ithorian to his family and ends up in the middle of an Imperial raid to clear out the illegal occupants of the apartment building. This forces Hector to reevalute his opinions and he stands up against the Empire and defends the occupants. With his help, they manage to escape and Hector decides to leave the Enforcer behind him and start piecing together his life.

Ok, maybe not so quick, but anyhoo: here's the sequel. I hope you enjoy it! peace

Prologue
The Trial

The Hall of Chieftains was in an uproar. Hundreds of Wookiees had pushed themselves into the vast hall to witness the spectacle that was about to unravel. The stormtroopers stood nervously in front of the crowd, keeping their fingers close to their triggers. Behind them, their officers were pacing and giving them orders.

‘Keep steady,’ one officer barked. ‘If one of those beasts as much as breathes over the line, shoot it. Show them their rightful place,’

‘Yes sir,’

The Imperial governor, Wend Dyrillion, entered through a side-door and walked up to the officer.

‘How does it look, Captain?’

‘There’s a lot of them but the situation is under control, sir,’

Dyrillion turned around and looked out at the vast crowd of Wookiees.

‘Hmm…’

‘We believed it was easier to have them in here than outside, in case of rioting,’ the Captain quickly filled in. ‘Containment,’

‘Is that so?’ Dyrillion said and turned around. ‘Good thinking. Well done. How does the protection look?’

‘We have turrets on each side of the podium pointing down the hall and snipers outside the windows and in the rafters in case of any unrest in here. Outside, we have AT-KT’s patrolling the platforms. We also have direct access and clearance from flight control in the worst case scenario,’

‘It won’t come to that, I assure you,’ Dyrillion smiled and clapped the Captain on the back. ‘Good work, good work. Let’s just get this trial over with. When is the prisoner due to arrive?’

‘Soon, sir,’

‘Good. We were worried that sympathisers would try to spring him,’ Dyrillion started to climb the podium. ‘Thank you Captain. That is all for now,’ Dyrillion sat himself down in the centre seat, which stood slightly higher than the others.

A few minutes later, the side-door opened again and in strode two Imperial officials, three Wookiees and a protocol droid. The two Imperials took their seats on either side of the governor whilst the three Wookiees sat down by a table right in front of the podium. Dyrillion received some flimsi-sheets which he read through to make the final preparations before the trial began. All the major players were present except one, the most important one and the hall grew more and more quiet as the moment of his arrival was nearing.

Suddenly, loud noises could be heard beyond the side-door which opened with a loud whoosh that echoed in the now silent hall. Two worker droids were pulling at a big cage followed by four stormtroopers carrying heavy repeaters. The droids placed the cage right in front of the podium and a stormtrooper walked up and pushed a button upon it.

The cage fell apart and instantly, large, blue, electric bars shot forth, creating an electrical prison. Inside it lay a hulking mass of fur. The stormtrooper walked up to it, grabbed a shock-stick and poked the Wookiee through the bars. The Wookiee jumped up and smashed himself against the electric bars causing sparks to fly everywhere and the stormtrooper to stumble back. The Wookiee recoiled and rubbed his singed arm before looking up and finally realising where he was, upon which he launched himself against the bars once again.

‘Traitors! Let me out! Let me out!’ the Wookiee roared, his voice bouncing between the walls.

‘Brother! Calm down!’ one of the Wookiees, the one sitting in the middle, said and stood up.

‘Tulbaar?’ the Wookiee in the cage said, calming down and moving closer to the bars, gazing at his brother standing in front of the podium.

‘Wohirorr, you must under…’ Tulbaar started to say but was interrupted as Wohirorr started to roar at his brother.

‘How could you do this? Your own flesh and blood? You’re a traitor and you will pay!’

Whilst he was roaring, Wohirorr did not notice the stormtrooper creeping up beside him and driving the shock-stick deep into his fur. Electrical energy surged through Wohirorr’s body and he collapsed to the floor, breathing heavily.

‘Are we quite done yet?’ Dyrillion sighed impatiently. Wohirorr glared at him. ‘Very well, let’s get started,’

Dyrillion shuffled his flimsi-sheets and looked down at Wohirorr.

‘Wohirorr, son of Chieftain Gratchhuk and also known under the alias of “Madclaw”,’ Dyrillion boomed. ‘You are here to face charges of treason against the Empire and the acts of which it includes, but is not limited to: murder, arson, smuggling, harbouring fugitives, damages to the infrastructure, attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and attempted murder,’

Wohirorr chuckled and rumbled something.

‘He says he is not guilty of any treasonous acts against the Empire since he is not a subject of the Empire,’ the droid translated. ‘He is waging warfare against the Empire on the Empire’s terms,’

‘He says that?’ Dyrillion asked. ‘Fine, that’s his prerogative. The fact still remains that the Imperial presence here is legal and ratified by the Wookiee Council, which the defendant was once a member of,’ Dyrillion sneered. ‘Hypocrisy is not a serious crime though but treason is, whatever your political beliefs are. Imperial law is very clear on this point and the sentence must be death,’

As the announcement reached the ears of the audience, roars of outrage could be heard and the angry crowd of Wookiees started to protest vehemently causing the stormtroopers to bring up their guns and move closer to the crowd.

‘Of course, the Empire is not the only one with a say in this matter,’ Dyrillion continued, ignoring the commotion. ‘The representatives of the Wookiee Council will also present its verdict,’

‘I do not recognise this council of traitors or its verdict,’ Wohirorr growled as he turned his attention to the representatives of the Wookiee council in front of him.

‘Brother, there is no need to speak as you do,’ Tulbaar said, clearly flustered and running his paws through his grey fur. ‘The Wookiee Council sympathises with your cause but we can’t help see that your actions have only exacerbated the situation for the Wookiees,’

‘How dare you?!’ Wohirorr roared and launched himself against the electronic bars. ‘It’s an excuse for the Empire to act cruelly and you believe them? How can we hope to overturn such a foe without sacrifice? You tell me that!’

‘The persecution of Wookiees has been rampant and the executions of suspected rebels have been steadily rising. The council’s power to do anything has diminished because of this,’ Tulbaar said.

‘I spit on your council!’ Wohirorr said. ‘It only lends credibility to the Imperial occupation,’

‘It’s a forum for our concerns to be heard!’ Tulbaar shouted and stood up.

‘You’re delusional brother!’ Wohirorr chuckled. ‘When was the last time the Empire listened to any of your concerns? Wookiees are still being shipped of this planet. Have you forgotten Tabruk? Our own brother being shipped away like a beast to some Imperial outpost! You have no power! I had power and I could’ve changed things before you stabbed me in the back,’

‘We had to move against you. Not only were you harming our society but your gang of bandits were out of control. They had attacked and killed several innocent Wookiees,’ Tulbaar said and brought his massive paw down onto the table. The crowd started to get noisy again with some in favour of Wohirorr and others in favour of the council. Scuffles broke out in the crowd which forced some stormtroopers to shot several warning shots. ‘Besides, you used your claws in combat. Your claws, brother! We cannot stand by and let such barbarism take hold. We as Wookiees are better than that!’

‘I see nothing wrong with using what has been given to us against enemies that see us as animals anyway,’ Wohirorr said.

Tulbaar sighed and held his head in his paws.

‘Brother, I understand why you chose this path but I and several others with me believe that we can achieve our goals without violence,’ he said. ‘Your intentions were once noble but you lost sight of it. We couldn't stand by as your campaign started affecting innocent Wookiees, ruining their lives. Your use of claws against your perceived enemies is unacceptable. For that, the council must exile you. For your other crimes, the council agrees with the governor’s verdict,’

As the verdict was heard by everyone in the hall, an almighty roar rose to the roof. Banging could be heard as many Wookiees started to pound the floor and chant in support of Wohirorr.

‘Proud of yourself are you, brother?’ Wohirorr asked, once the stormtroopers had calmed the situation down. ‘You have condemned your youngest brother to death and seen your other brother be taken as a slave whilst doing nothing! I’m glad father is not alive to see this,’

‘I have no more to say to you,’ Tulbaar said coolly.

‘And where is Kolparin? I would like to see my other backstabbing brother before I go,’

‘Kolparin is gone. He disappeared after the raid,’ Tulbaar said.

‘Good. You should follow his example,’ Wohirorr said as a stormtrooper closed in, setting his blaster for stun. Tulbaar rose and looked sadly upon his brother.

‘This is it,’ Tulbaar said. ‘I’m sorry it had to end this way,’

‘I feel sorry for you,’ Wohirorr growled and closed his eyes as the stormtrooper came closer. Suddenly, there was a bang high up among the rafters and a sniper came tumbling down, hitting the floor with a sickening sound.

‘What the…?’ Dyrillion shouted, having been snapped out of his reveries. He stood up and looked upwards.

Above them, several Wookiees where entering through a hole in the roof and jumping onto the rafters where they attacked the snipers. Several Wookiees where shot and fell down to the floor dead but the several others took their place and made short work of the snipers.

‘What are you looking at? Shoot them! Shoot them!’ Dyrillion shouted at the stormtroopers by the turrets and jabbed his finger upwards. The turrets aimed upwards and started shooting as the Wookiees took position and started firing downwards. Panic broke out among the crowd and there was a mad scramble for the exit. The stormtroopers controlling the crowd ignored them and turned their attention towards the Wookiees among the rafters. Some Wookiees in the crowd took advantage of this and pounced upon the stormtroopers, beating them with their massive paws. Dyrillion saw this and grabbed his blaster. He stood up rapidly and gunned down the attacking Wookiees in quick succession.

‘Get up!’ he urged the shaken stormtroopers. ‘Kill the rebels!’ he turned around and started firing upwards.

A silver orb was dropped and hit the floor with a metallic clang. Dyrillion saw it and shouted something inaudible as he ducked. A bright flash filled the whole hall. The Wookiees in the rafters got out grappling hooks and started descending. Once down on the floor, some the Wookiees moved from stormtrooper, shooting them coldly as the lay there stunned.

‘Stop that!’ one Wookiee, the leader, barked. ‘We are here for Wohirorr and we must be swift,’

The leader walked up to the electric cage and held a small device above. He pushed a button and the disappeared, only leaving Wohirorr lying spread-eagled on the floor.

‘Hello, brother. How is life treating you?’

‘Kolparin?’ Wohirorr slurred as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.

‘I’ve come back to rescue you,’ Kolparin said.

‘I don’t need help from you,’ Wohirorr growled.

‘We have some things to straighten out, but not now,’ Kolparin said as he helped his brother to his feet.

‘I don’t need your help,’ Wohirorr said, steadying himself and shaking off Kolparin.

‘Fine,’ Kolparin said and backed off. ‘But can you please start climbing up the rope so that we can get out of here?’

‘Sure,’ Wohirorr growled, grabbed the rope and started to climb. Wookiees and Imperials all around started coming to.

‘Let’s go! We haven’t got much time!’ Kolparin shouted and grabbed a rope. Suddenly, Dyrillion emerged from behind the podium, brandishing his blaster.

‘Halt in the name of the Empire!’ Dyrillion shouted, aiming his blaster at Kolparin and firing. Kolparin was hit squarely in the chest three times and collapsed to the floor.

‘Kolparin!’ Wohirorr bellowed, letting go of the rope and landing on the podium. The podium got smashed under the heavy impact and Dyrillion lost his balance. Wohirorr regained his footing and pounced upon the governor before the man could aim his blaster steadily. Wohirorr landed on top of Dyrillion and knocked the blaster out of his hand, crushing the hand at the same time. Dyrillion shouted in agony as Wohirorr leaned in menacingly.

‘Please, no…’ Dyrillion whimpered, cradling his mashed up hand.

‘Pathetic,’ Wohirorr growled and slowly extended his claws as Dyrillion’s eyes widened in horror.

‘I…I….I know you understand me,’ Dyrillion stammered. ‘If you kill me, the Empire will crackdown hard on Kashyyyk. Nothing will stop us,’

‘I know that you don’t understand me, but I can take them,’ Wohirorr said scornfully as Dyrillion kept focusing on the claws. ‘Nothing brings down a rampaging Wookiee. Nothing,’

Dyrillion could do nothing but look on in fear through watery eyes as Wohirorr cracked a wide smile. Dyrillion could see the furious madness in the eyes of the Wookiee and panicked.

‘No! No! Don’t…!’ Dyrillion shouted and held up his good hand but to no avail. The heavy paws of Wohirorr descended upon him, swatting away his hand and impacting on the side of his head, from which a satisfying snap was heard. Dyrillion fell silent in an instant.

‘Wohirorr, we must move!’ one of the Wookiees, halfway up the ropes shouted, as he started shooting at the stormtroopers who were slowly regaining their sight. Wohirorr left the body of the governor, grabbed the nearest rope and started to climb whilst other Wookiees tried to grab the body of Kolparin.

The hall erupted into blaster fire as the Wookiee rebels made their escape.

Alexis: I'm happy you trust my more-than-slightly-rusty writing abilities tongue Hopefully, I won't disappoint.

Warlord: Thanks. happy There was supposed to be prequel to this, starring Madclaw but it fizzled out. In case you wonder why I started where I started

LittleMissNightsaber: My prologues tend to have that effect wink

Chapter two will be up soon. The updating schedule will be slightly irregular, I hope that won't bother people too much.

Chapter 1
High roller

‘Come on! Come on! Show daddy some love,’ Hector said as he shook his fist, rattling the two dice inside it. He leaned over towards a woman to his right, a stunning red-head wearing a sparkling orange dress which shifted in intensity as she moved. ‘Come on love, will you make me lucky tonight?’ Hector opened his hand and held the red dice under the woman’s chin.

‘Maybe I will,’ she said, looking straight into Hector’s eyes and smiling before she blew the dice.

‘Let’s hope,’ Hector winked before turning to a blue Twi’lek female who stood to his left. ‘You too, darling,’ he held up the dice. The Twi’lek smiled and blew the dice. Behind here towered a big, green, Twi’lek male who watched on disapprovingly, probably her company for the evening. ‘Come on big guy, you too,’ Hector smiled and held up the dice. The Twi’lek mumbled something as he saw everyone turning around and looking at him before reluctantly blowing on the dice quickly.

‘Thank you!’ Hector said as he turned around and threw the dice onto the table. They bounced across the table as everyone around it looked on eagerly. Hector closed his eyes, made a slight motion with his hand and he heard the collective gasp from everyone as they stopped.

‘Double six. Sir wins,’ the croupier announced tiredly.

‘I did?’ Hector said in mock surprise as he opened his eyes. ‘I guess you’re my lucky charm,’ he said and looked at the red-head to his right.

‘You ever doubted me?’ she asked teasingly. ‘Keep playing. I might keep giving you luck all night,’

‘Sure thing, sweetheart,’ Hector said and held out the dice. She blew them. Meanwhile, Hector gave himself a mental pat on the back. Credits and nightly company. Tonight was a good night.

****

‘What a dull night this is,’ a Hamadryas said as he reclined in his chair. In front of him were dozens of screens showing him surveillance footage from the casino. ‘A droid could do my job,’

‘Keep complaining, Largo, and one will,’ a human said, standing stiffly behind the chair and watching the screens intently. ‘There’s been too many close calls lately. If we don’t get our act together, the owner will have our heads. Literally,’

‘You worry too much, Matti. We’ve got all this new tech and…’ Largo didn’t go on since a small light started to flash on one of the screens in front of him.

‘What is it?’ Matti said quickly.

‘It’s table 162,’ Largo said, putting on some specs as he leaned in closer to the screen. ‘That’s dice. Looks like someone is a little too lucky,’

‘Let me see,’ Matti said and leaned over Largo. On the screen, they could see Hector happily gathering his winnings. ‘Looks like one of those upper class brats,’

‘Should I reel him in?’ Largo asked. He held up the com-link. His boss didn’t answer him straight away. ‘He might be connected. Could cause us some trouble,’

‘I know,’ Matti sighed. ‘But I’d rather face that kind of trouble than the one the owner can give us,’

‘So…?’

‘So do it,’

Largo brought the com-link to his mouth and called on security.

****

Hector had gathered his winnings and was making his way towards the exit with the redhead, Alyssa was her name, on his arm. Suddenly, Hector became aware of someone looking at him. Something bad was about to happen.

‘Something’s not right,’ Hector said, stopping dead in his tracks.

‘What is it?’ Alyssa said looking slightly annoyed. ‘Come on. Let’s cash in those chips!’

She tugged at Hector but two guards, a human and a Gran suddenly materialised in front of them. They were wearing impeccable navy coloured long coats but it did little to hide the mass of muscles under their clothing.

‘Anything wrong?’ Hector asked, feeling that any answer was unnecessary.

‘Sir, we need you to come with us,’ the human said, pulling down his dark specs to the tip of the nose as to take a good look at Hector.

‘Sure. No chance of me cashing in my chips first?’

‘No,’ the guard said. ‘My colleague will take care of those in the meanwhile,’ the Gran stepped forward and pried the bag of chips gently from Hector. ‘Now, step this way, sir,’

The human guard stepped to the side and indicated which Hector was to walk. Hector reluctantly walked out ahead and the two guards followed a couple of steps behind him. He turned around to take a look at Alyssa.

‘See you in a couple of minutes, alright? We’ll pick up from where we left off,’

The look on Alyssa’s face seemed to suggest that this was not likely.

****

The guards lead Hector through the whole casino. Guests would only glance quickly as the men strode passed the various tables and gambling machines. Regular guests knew very well what kind of business was going down. Finally they reached the very end of the casino and stood in front of an inconspicuous grey door. The Gran brought forth a card and waved it in front of a scanner. It beeped an affirmative and the door slid apart. The guards then lead Hector through a never-ending maze of bleak, grey corridors. Within five minutes, Hector was lost. The guards, however, seemed to know where they were going and kept a steady pace. Eventually, they reached another grey door. The human stepped forward, flashed his card and the door opened.

‘Please enter,’ the guard said and Hector walked in first, with the Gran following closely behind. The room they entered was not big. It seemed to be a storage room for uniforms and other clothing. Hector got a heavy feeling in his chest as he turned around and faced the guards who had taken up position by the door.

‘What is going on here?’

The guards didn’t answer him. They didn’t even look at him. The Gran was gazing up towards the ceiling whilst the human was brushing dust off his arm.

‘Answer me! You don’t treat a customer like this!’ he said angrily to the indifferent guards. ‘Do you know who I am?’

Just as Hector said it, the door opened and a man entered. He looked rather business-like, though somewhat shorter than Hector and with thinning hair. At the moment he looked rather rushed but he still managed to put on a confident smile as he entered the room.

‘No we don’t. But we would really like to know,’ he said as he stopped right in front of Hector.

‘Wait a minute. Who are you and why have you taken me here?’ Hector couldn’t hide the anxiety in his voice. A thought had flashed through his head and he couldn’t shake it: had the Empire finally found out who the Enforcer was? Was this man the agent that was to bring him in?

‘To answer your first question, I’m Holden Matti and I see to it that everything runs smoothly here,’

Hector relaxed slightly.

‘So, you’re the boss here?’ he asked.

‘Oh no, definitely not,’ Matti chuckled. ‘And to answer your second question. You are here because we believe you’ve cheated,’

‘Wait, what?’ Hector blurted. ‘You think I’ve cheated? What’s your evidence?’

A crash was heard as the Gran dropped the bag of chips to the floor. The two guards smiled widely.

‘What?! That?’ Hector exclaimed. ‘Can’t a guy just get lucky?’

‘No. Not in this casino,’ Matti said darkly, his smile disappearing. ‘The owner has made sure of that,’

‘So, what do you want me to do?’ Hector said, tensing up again. ‘Give you the winnings back? Go ahead, take it! Just let me go,’

‘It’s not that simple, I’m afraid,’ Matti said. ‘Not only do we require that you give back the winnings, but we need you to reveal your name and the method that you used,’

‘Method? What method?’

‘How you cheated,’

‘I didn’t,’ Hector was not about to reveal that he was Force sensitive.

Matti sighed. ‘Very well. Could we at least get a name?’

‘Sorry,’ Hector said and shrugged apologetically.

‘Yeah, me too,’ Matti said. He turned around and started walking towards the door.

‘Wait, where are you going?’

‘I have a casino to run,’ Matti answered.

‘And what about me?’

‘My associates here will take care of you,’ Matti said and left. As the door closed behind the man, Hector looked at the guards.

‘I suppose “taking care of” is a euphemism, right?’

The two guards cracked their knuckles in their palms. Hector interpreted that as an affirmative. The guards started to walk slowly towards Hector.

‘Look. I’m warning you. You don’t know who you’re messing with,’ Hector said but the guards continued advancing on him, chuckling in the meantime. The Gran picked up the bag of chips, swung it around and hit Hector on the side of the face. He fell to the floor with a grunt.

‘Whenever you’re ready, champ,’ the human guard spat and kicked Hector in the stomach. Hector coughed pitifully. The Gran smacked him again with the bag of winnings before throwing it to the side. Hector’s head was reeling and he seemed unable to move when the human guard grabbed and pulled him up to his feet.

‘What’s going on?’ Hector slurred.

‘We’re going to be fair,’ the human guard said. ‘We’ll allow you to throw a punch each at us. Come on, give us your best,’ the guard patted him heavily on his back and chest.

Hector had difficulty focusing his eyesight but he could see the Gran snickering.

‘Sure,’ Hector said, steadying himself. ‘I’ll start with you,’

He pointed at the Gran, who straightened up but couldn’t wipe the contemptuous grin of his face. Hector closed his eyes, focused his mind and tried to ignore the throbbing pain in his head.

‘Well, go on!’ the human guard urged impatiently as Hector swayed on the spot. ‘This offer expires in ten seconds!’

‘Fine,’ Hector said and opened his eyes, now being able to see clearly. He focused on the smiling Gran and stretched out his hand. As he was looking at Hector standing there silent with his arm outstretched, the Gran had a sudden bad feeling. There was something about the man in front of him that struck him as wrong. The smile faded from his face.

‘Wait a minute, Gordo. This is not…’ the Gran started to say but a sudden force impacted squarely on his chest and he was propelled backwards, into the wardrobe of uniforms which collapsed around him.

‘What the frak!’ Gordo the guard shouted as Hector rounded on him.

‘Your turn,’ Hector said, and wiped the blood from his lip with the back of his hand.

‘I don’t know what kind of freak you are, but…’ Gordo started to say as he made a desperate grab for the blaster concealed within his coat. He pulled it but Hector was much faster and a movement of the hand sent Gordo flying into door and busting it open. Hector picked up the bag of winnings and walked up the crumpled form of Gordo leaning against the wall in the hallway.

‘I will just take my winnings and leave,’ Hector said as he stepped over Gordo. ‘Just point me to the exit,’

Hector looked down at the guard and saw him holding a small device, which was beeping. Down the hallway, Hector could hear shouts.

‘Frak,’

Dropping his bag of winnings, Hector leaned over and grabbed Gordo’s clearance card before starting to run in the opposite direction. Hector ran, turning left, right, right, left without having a clear idea of where he was going. Despite this, his pursuers always seemed to be in earshot and Hector was getting worried that he was hopelessly lost within the bowel of the building. Finally, he found a door and without hesitating, he pulled it open.

Closing the door behind him and turning around, Hector found that he was standing in some kind of surveillance centre, with several beings sitting at various consoles showing different parts of the casino on their screens. In the middle of the room stood Holden Matti and stared dumbly at him.

‘Not good,’ Hector said.

‘Arrest that man!’

Hector closed his eyes and with his power, he lifted one of the technicians who started to shout in panic.

‘What’s going on? Let me down! Aah!’ the technician shouted as his colleagues stopped and watched on, stunned. Hector threw his arms forward and sent the technician hurling through the air and crashing into one of the consoles, sending sparks everywhere. Next, Hector summoned all the energy he could and pulled his arms close to his body. Slowly, everyone started to back off.

‘We must sound the alarm!’ Matti shouted as he dashed towards the broken console. He pushed off the unconscious technician and frantically hit the alarm button to no avail. Meanwhile, he heard gasps and turning around, he saw Hector rising slightly off the ground.

‘What the fr…!’ Matti exclaimed but was cut-off mid-sentence as Hector spread his arms and unleashed a powerful force wave the swept everyone off their feet and which crushed all the remaining consoles. Landing softly, Hector surveyed the destruction, breathing heavily as he did so.

‘That’s new,’ he panted.

Hector exited the room and surveyed the corridor. The coast seemed to be clear. He moved slowly down the corridor, straightening and dusting off his suit as he walked along. He finally stumbled across a door and with a quick motion of his hand, the door opened.

Hector emerged into the casino unnoticed and started to walk briskly towards the exit, always keeping an eye out for any guards coming at him. Despite some suspicious looks, Hector managed to get to the exit without any incident arising. Hector hailed an air-cab and jumped into it quickly.

‘Where to, sir?’ the Dug driver asked.

‘Just get me out of here quickly,’ Hector said.

Hey Rau! Glad you liked those lines happy

Ok, time for another update. This time we get to see a slice out of Hector's everyday life.

Enjoy!

---------------------------------------

Chapter 2
A Day At the Office

The shrill ringing of the alarm chrono pierced the comfortable darkness and within a few seconds, it had managed to induce a minor headache. Hector covered his head with his pillow and with a flick of his finger, the chrono flew off his bed-side table, hitting the wall which stopped its ringing. Hector breathed a sigh of relief but his peace did not last long as Al opened the door.

‘Don’t think you can get off that easy, sir,’ Al said.

‘Leave me alone,’ Hector groaned.

‘Work calls,’ Al said and opened the blinds, lighting the whole room up in the morning sunshine. ‘Besides, it’s your own fault if you insist on staying up late gambling,’

‘Sure Al, whatever you say,’ Hector said tiredly as he sat up and rubbed his eyes. Al turned around to face his master and saw the bruise on his cheek and his fat lip.

‘Sir, what happened last night?’

‘Oh, this? Hector said and touched his lip tenderly. ‘The management at the casino took issue with me winning too much,’

‘You mean they took issue with you using your powers to win?’

‘Now we’re just splitting hairs,’

‘You should’ve listened to my advice,’

‘I did listen to your advice and I chose to ignore it,’ Hector said and stood up.

‘You’re starting to live dangerously again,’ Al said. ‘You should lay low for a while,’

‘I know how to take care of myself, Al,’ Hector snorted. ‘The last nine months have passed without any major incident, haven’t they?’

‘Not counting this one, of course,’

‘Don’t worry,’ Hector said as he pulled on his dressing gown. ‘I got out of there as quickly as I could,’

‘Without causing too much of a mess?’ the droid asked doubtfully.

‘Yes,’ Hector said before adding: ‘If you compare it to last time,’

‘That doesn’t sound too good considering that last time; you attacked a stormtrooper squad and wrecked the whole floor of a building,’

‘I’m hungry,’ Hector said, changing the subject. ‘What have you got cooking for me?’

‘I won’t drop this,’ Al said.

‘I know you won’t,’ Hector said as he left the room. ‘But I also know you won’t let me go hungry either,’

****

Hector ate a sturdy breakfast in front of the HoloNet, mostly to drown out Al’s reprimands, before getting dressed and setting out for work. For the last nine months, Hector had been working as a producer at the Galaxies Opera House, thanks to his mother knowing the owner, Romeo Treblanc. But that was the extent of any support Hector would receive from his parents because his father had cut off any funds to him when it became clear that Hector would no longer be actively pursuing a career in the military.

With no source of income, Hector had withdrawn all his credits from the bank and had hit the casinos. Within a short space of time, he had enough money to properly function as a producer of one of the plays at the Opera House and to keep his comfortable lifestyle. He was an rising star within the arts world and important people were starting to take note of him. Life seemed good.

****

Hector parked his speeder in the executive garage and took the repulsorlift to his office.

‘Morning Nyla,’ Hector said as he passed his secretary.

‘Oh, Hector!’ she said, dropping her flimsis and jumping up behind the desk. ‘You’re needed urgently down at the stage,’

‘Is it something serious?’

‘I think so,’

‘Is Romeo there?’

She nodded. Then it must be serious.

‘Thanks,’ Hector said, turning around and moving back to the repulsorlift. ‘Want to have lunch later?’

‘Thanks, but I think I’ve made it clear that our relationship should remain professional,’ she smiled and blushed.

‘Come on. I’m just trying to be a good boss,’ he said as the door repulsorlift closed. As it descended, Hector couldn’t help but think how good his life had turned out. The money was rolling in and he was now a sought after bachelor, unfortunately not in Nyla’s eyes. But Hector had confidence now that he never had before and he thought he could win her over eventually.

That’s why he wasn’t fretting over this problem either, despite the fact that Treblanc had taken the drastic measure of leaving his office for something other than a premiere. No problem seemed too insurmountable anymore. And to think that just nine months earlier, Hector had been crawling through the Coruscant underworld, beating up illegal aliens and spice addicts. Had it not been for Al and certain events taking place, Hector would’ve surely been living in solitude instead of this glamorous existence.

****

Hector stepped out of the elevator, walked through the corridor and emerged into the gigantic theatre that was the Galaxies Opera House’s main stage. Some hundred metres below, he could see a gaggle of people standing on the stage. Hector walked quickly down the stairs, jumping every other one until he had reached the bottom of the rotunda. Hector walked briskly across the ground-floor and climbed the stage where everyone was vigorously discussing something.

‘Good morning everyone,’ he said. ‘What kind of problem do we seem to have?’

The discussion died down instantly and everyone turned around to face him.

‘Where have you been?’ Treblanc asked, bristling. ‘And what have you done to your face?’

‘Firstly, it’s not even nine yet, so I’m early,’ Hector began as he moved to the centre of the group. ‘Secondly, I…slipped in the shower,’

‘Whatever,’ Treblanc said dismissively as he produced a handkerchief and wiped his brow. ‘We have some serious problems,’

‘I’ve gathered as much. What is it?’

Everyone looked at Treblanc who hesitated for a moment and wiped his brow again.

‘It’s Meralyn,’ he said.

‘What about her?’

‘She’s been arrested,’

‘Arrested!? For what?’ Hector raised his voice.

‘Hector,’ Treblanc said and laid his hand on Hector’s shoulder. ‘She’s a Rebel,’

‘Wha…what?’ Hector did a double-take.

‘That is all that they have told us. She and several other artists have been rounded up,’

‘That is crazy!’ Hector said. ‘That’s the fourth time this month that the authorities have arrested artists,’

‘We cannot believe it either,’ Treblanc shook his head. ‘To think that there are so many dissidents amongst us! And Meralyn, who seemed to be so good,’

‘When will we find out more?’

‘We won’t. We are of no concern to them anymore,’ Treblanc said.

‘Do you think they will come back?’

‘They won’t,’ Treblanc said and looked quizzically at Hector. ‘Or do you think otherwise?’

‘No,’ Hector said, shifting uncomfortably. ‘But where does this leave us?’

‘In a lot of trouble,’ Treblanc sighed. ‘This is bad publicity,’

‘You know what they say about publicity?’

‘Well, Hector my booki, I’ve been in the business long enough to know that there is such a thing as bad publicity,’ Treblanc forced a smile. ‘And when people find out that a Rebel traitor has been working with us...let’s just say that we’re toast; privately, professionally and financially,’

‘So, you’re saying…?’ Hector said, fearing the answer.

‘I’m saying that I want to pull the plug on this project,’

As Treblanc finished off the sentence, everyone around him started to protest loudly.

‘Quiet!’ Hector said loudly and everyone quietened down instantly. ‘Romeo, you can’t be serious,’

‘I am,’ Treblanc said, puffing himself up. ‘This project is dead as a Jedi,’

‘But we’re half-way through. Both you and I have invested heavily in this projected. We can’t abandon it now!’

‘Yes we can and we will!’ Treblanc persisted. Noises of disbelief came from the people around him. Treblanc held up his hands apologetically. ‘Look, I’m not the villain here. I’m not the one that got caught in the act of treachery! We must close down production and be more careful with our background checks next time. There is no arguing this,’

‘Come on!’ Hector said. ‘This is just a minor setback. We’ve lost a leading actress but we can replace her and we’ll make sure that the word doesn’t get out,’

‘Hector, the word always gets out,’ Treblanc said. ‘Now, from this moment on, production is over. I suggest you people go and enjoy your days off,’

The people on the stage erupted into angry protests but Treblanc merely covered up his ears. Hector strode up to him and grabbed him by the elbow.

‘Maybe it’s better if you and I have a talk away from the others,’ Hector said, pulling the manager off the stage.

‘I don’t see what good it will do. My mind is set,’

They stood some way off now, among the rows of seats and everyone on the stage turned and looked at the two men.

‘So there is no way of changing your mind?’

‘No, there is not. I’m sorry Hector, but everyone in this business suffers a setback eventually. You’ll pull through,’

Treblanc smiled apologetically but Hector kept a steady grip of his shoulder.

‘You won’t cancel the play,’ Hector said, waving his hand in front of Treblanc’s face.

‘I won’t cancel the play,’ Treblanc said, his eyes glazed.

‘You will give the production another chance,’

‘I will give the production another chance,’

‘You’re convinced it will be a success,’

‘I’m convinced it will be a success,’

‘Now, you must go and do some work,’

‘Now, I must go and do some work,’ Treblanc said, turning around and trudging up the stairs.

Hector walked backed to the stage, smiling.

‘What happened?’ one of the main actors, Haren, asked.

‘I managed to convince Treblanc to keep production going.

‘You did?’ the director, Maximilian, said with a stunned facial expression.

‘Yes I did,’ Hector smiled and everybody on the stage cheered and hugged each other.

‘How did you manage to pull that off?’ Maximilian asked as he came down and shook Hector’s hand.

‘We producers have our ways,’ Hector said coyly. ‘It’s what we’re supposed to do,’

Everyone stood around him, smiling.

‘Well, what are you waiting for? Get back to work!’ Hector clapped his hands and everyone on the stage scurried off it to begin their work. ‘Maximilian, a word please,’
The director walked off the stage and came up next to Hector who laid an arm around him.

‘We need to find someone to replace Meralyn,’ Maximilian said.

‘I know. Who else auditioned for the role?’

‘Loads,’ Maximilian said and produced a datapad. He tapped it and several headshots of different women appeared. ‘Should we call them back?’

‘That many?!’ Hector said as he looked at the datapad. ‘No, that will just slow us down. We must keep our momentum or Treblanc will be breathing down our necks. We must pick one of these,’

‘At random?’ Maximilian exclaimed.

‘It’s the only way,’ Hector said, handing back the datapad to Maximilian. ‘Which one of these did you like?’

‘I don’t know,’ Maximilian sighed. ‘I don’t remember. I pick the best one and forget the rest. Meralyn was the best,’

‘So, are you going to pick one?’

‘I can’t do that. The proper way is to hold auditions again,’

‘Fine, I’ll do it,’ Hector said and grabbed the datapad out of Maximilian’s hands.

‘What? It’ll be a disaster. You might pick the worst of the lot!’

‘Or the best,’ Hector retorted. ‘Or perhaps that is second best in your opinion,’

‘But…buh…’ Maximilian was moving his mouth but no proper words were coming out.

‘Trust me. I have magic fingers,’ Hector said and smiled reassuringly.

He tapped the screen of the datapad with his finger and started scrolling through the various headshots. Hector did not let his eyes get stuck on any of the faces and he let his fingers continue the flicking. His fingers were living a life of their own, sometimes they would slow down so that Hector could get a close look at a face but before he had even reached a decision, they would start flicking again. Maximilian looked over Hector’s shoulder nervously. Finally, his fingers stopped and a headshot came into view.

‘Her,’ Hector said without taking a look and showing it to Maximilian.

‘Her?’

‘Her,’

‘Fine, but if it doesn’t work out…’

‘I know, I know,’ Hector said. ‘Now, contact her and get her to meet me. I’ll be in my office,’

‘Will do,’ Maximilian said and walked off.

****

Hector was sitting in his office, regarding the view of the cityscape he had from his office. He was worn out from the discussion down by the stage and slightly numbed by the fact that he had forcefully altered his boss’s mind with his power. It was a gutsy move and Hector now wondered if it would ever come back to haunt him. The intercom buzzed and Hector pressed the blinking red button.

‘Cass Sunhart here to see you,’ Nyla said.

‘Who?’

‘The actress to replace Meralyn,’ Hector could more or less hear Nyla rolling her eyes.

‘Oh, yeah…sure…send her in,’ Hector said and swivelled his chair around so that he was facing the door. The door opened and in stepped tall, slim woman with chestnut hair who was smartly dressed. Hector thought she looked stunning and vaguely familiar.

‘Hey you,’ she said and smiled widely.

‘And hello to you too…’ Hector said slowly. He stood up and they shook hands. She looked deeply into his eyes. He found this slightly unnerving. ‘Please, do take a seat,’

She sat down.

‘Well,’ Hector said business-like as he sat down.

‘You really don’t recognise me?’ she asked, still smiling.

‘Well, of course I do. From the headshot,’ Hector said, avoiding eye contact. ‘Or are we supposed to have met each other some place else?’

‘Oh,’ she said and ran her hand through her hair. ‘It was at a party,’

‘Been to a few of those,’ Hector said. ‘Not really helping,’

She still smiled. She seemed to enjoy that Hector was clueless. Hector enjoyed the fact that she still seemed to remember him!

‘It was at your apartment, almost a year ago,’ she said. ‘I almost fell off the balcony and you saved me,’

And then it all came back to Hector. How he had had a vision of Cass leaning against the balcony railing which broke leaving her to tumble into the darkness moments before it happened and how Hector had prevented it from happening. It was when he still didn’t understand what his powers were all about.

‘Now I remember,’ he said and gazed into the air.

‘I’m surprised that it took you so long,’ she said. ‘Do you save a lot of women from danger?’

‘No,’ Hector said and laughed. ‘I’ve been busy, that’s all,’

‘Mmm,’ she said and nodded.

‘Now, to business,’ Hector said, falling straight into his business persona.

‘Excuse me,’ she said, interrupting him again.

‘Yes?’

‘Do you mind if we perhaps take this some place else?’

‘Like?’

‘Like over a cup of caf? I find business talk much easier to take that way,’

‘Yes,’ Hector said and smiled. ‘Yes. That would be lovely,’

Thanks Rau, that is what I hope to achieve with the character of Hector. And yes, he likes to attract trouble tongue

Again, very sorry for the slowness of my responses. I'm feeling like I'm doing a terrible job here but the last few weeks have been so topsy-turvy and it's not over yet! I'll try to get another update up soon but I can't promise anything.
