Title: Force of Nature
Author: VaderLVR64
Characters: Anakin and Padmé
Notes: Yes, the storm theme seems popular with Anakin. I wonder why? tongue But we had a good thunderstorm roll through here about an hour ago and a plot bunny was born.

Force of Nature

He had sensed the storm coming. It had roused him from a restless sleep. Something in the wind, riding on the air, a certain sharpness to the scents that filled the breeze. Glancing at Padmé, he slid from between the sheets and went to the window, pressing his face against the coolness of the pane. The doors leading to the veranda were open, and the curtains fluttered wildly in the rising wind. Smiling, he closed his eyes and tried to discern the distant sound of thunder.

Yes, there it was. The storm was coming closer now.

Opening his eyes, Anakin moved to the door and stepped out onto the veranda. Clad only in sleep shorts, he should have been chilled. Instead, he savored the cool feeling of the wind, the hint of moisture that kissed his flesh. Naboo, so different from the hellish place he had grown up, the world on which he had lost his mother, the site of his greatest failure. If Tatooine represented the nadir of his existence, then Naboo was its height. Here, he had finally claimed happiness when the holy man had bound them together as husband and wife.

It was here that Padmé had finally tossed aside convention and rational thought and given herself to him. From behind him, he heard her muttering in her sleep. He turned and watched one arm flinging out toward his side of the bed, her delicate hand resting on his pillow as if she sought his warmth even in her sleep. The notion made him smile, but he did not move toward the bed. He was content, for the moment, to study her…his wife.

From a distance, he heard the howling wind pick up force, and there was enough rain in the air to dampen his face now, causing water to gather in drops on his lashes. He blinked and they fell. And gathered again. He liked the feeling of the water in his hair, dripping down his bare back. It was almost too cold, but invigorating at the same time.

Just one more proof that Naboo was everything Tatooine was not. Even a storm on this world was a gentle affair, cleansing the greenery so that it merely glowed more brightly. One day… Maybe one day they could live here permanently. Perhaps.

He saw Padmé blink in the gloom, sitting up in their bed, her hair falling in silken disarray around her. Anakin remembered the feel of it sliding over his body as they made love, he heard again the soft hitch in her voice as he murmured love words to her and she to him.

“Anakin?” She finally asked, spying him, outlined against the approaching storm. “Is something wrong?” She too, slipped from the bed, shrugging on a robe. It was white, and he remembered her marriage gown.

Smiling, he held out his hand to her, laughing as she blinked at the rain and grimaced. “You should be used to the rain,” he murmured as he wrapped his arms around her to protect her from the chilled air.

“I am,” she muttered, hiding her face in the warm flesh of his chest. “I just don’t like it sometimes.” She shivered slightly.

He placed a tender kiss on the top of her head and turned them both so that he was staring out at the waterfalls that roared across the valley below. She huddled up closer to him, and her lips and tongue were doing delicious, decadent things to the cleft between his pectoral muscles.

“We could go inside,” she suggested slyly, her breath hot against his skin.

“In a moment,” he promised. “I just want to see the clouds come across the waterfalls.”

She turned at last, looking off in the distance. “It won’t last long,” Padmé said with the certainty of experience in her voice. “It’s moving fast.” As if sensing his mood, she put her arm around his waist and ignored the rain, keeping his vigil with him. “You like storms,” she said after a moment, her tone almost accusatory.

“I suppose I do,” he replied. “There’s something…I don’t know…I can’t explain it.”

Padmé laughed then, tilting her face up to the sky, opening her mouth like a child to catch the raindrops. Then she blinked at him. “It’s because you’re a storm, too, Anakin.”

He frowned at her. “What do you mean?”

“You’re like a force of nature,” she murmured, brushing back his sodden hair. “Powerful, barely controlled, sometimes hard to predict…” She smiled then, but the expression seemed sad.

“And do you want to control me?” he asked playfully, ignoring the unease her words had roused up in him.

Shaking her head, she stood on her toes and pressed warm lips to his. “No, I just want…” She tilted her head. “I just want to love you. That’s all.”

Anakin pulled her into a rough embrace, pressing her against him so completely that their slight shadows merged into one against the wall. “That’s all I want from you,” he whispered in an urgent voice. “Just promise me…”

“What?”

“That you’ll never stop…loving me.” His lips pressed together. “I’d die, I think.”

“How could I stop loving you, Anakin Skywalker?” She sounded amused by the idea, while his heart pounded out a dreadful rhythm in his chest. “I could stop breathing more easily than I could stop loving you.”

He was silent then, though his hand trembled when he tucked her hair behind her ears. “I promise you, Padmé, one day we’ll have a proper home on Naboo. We’ll be here as often as you’d like, and it will be…perfect.” His mouth twisted in a smile.

Gazing up at him, he wondered if she wondered, as he did, how they could possibly make that dream come true. Even when the war was over, he would still be a Jedi. Carefully, they avoided talking of the future too far in advance. One day was so far away, they could not yet see it. They only knew it had to exist or they would die from the pain.

A rain drop – or a tear? – trembled on her lashes and he wiped it tenderly away. Once more, his lips found hers. Tomorrow was far away, for now, there was only tonight.

And the coming storm.

Let me just say a few things.

First off, the words you give Anakin and Padme to say to each other are ten TIMES more passionate than the ones GL gave them in the movie. If only they came to you to write the screenplay... raised_brow .

Even though the symbolism of the storm is there with Anakin, there's also the metaphor of the gentleness of Naboo paralleled with Padme.

You even gave Anakin that same childlike naive quality when he says, "I'd die, I think.", as if he's not sure himself; which he isn't.

“I could stop breathing more easily than I could stop loving you.”

Well, that was haunting for her to say.

A rain drop – or a tear? – trembled on her lashes and he wiped it tenderly away.

The question is if it was a tear of happiness...or sadness for what she perceives may be coming? Guess the answer's different with everyone.

As always, great detail and great emotion.

Here's hoping you never ignore your plot bunnies when they come a'calling.

I love the storm and Anakin comparison. I think it's so telling how well you interwove the storm with this one moment in their lives. LOVE IT! applause

You always write Anakin so well, I'm quite envious. tongue There's a subtle sense of Vader to him, just the faintest hint, but he's very much Anakin, with those bright insecurities.

Very nice mix of imagery and foreshadowing, too. Great work. grin
