	ooo “What are those Jedi Apprentices doing here?” Senator Palpatine asked his companion. “Chancellor Valorum invited a few of the senior apprentices to sit in on the senatorial debates; he believes they should know what goes on behind these diplomatic walls.” “I should think that you would find it uncomfortable having Jedi so close, especially since you renounced the Jedi and the order only two days ago Count. I heard that the council weren’t impressed by your resignation.” Palpatine kept his absolute delight that Dooku had quit the Jedi behind his impressive shields. “I do not concern myself with what they think, Senator. I’ve spent my life serving the Jedi and what have I got to show for it, nothing but condemnation from them because I had the courage to stand up for what I believe is right. The council had no interest in listening to me and they had the gall to ask for my sabre.” “Surely you didn’t have to give it up, Count?” “The high and mighty Council wouldn’t allow me to leave while I had it in my possession. I held my tongue and I handed to Windu, but if he or any of them think that I will be without a sabre for any length of time they are sadly mistaken!” “My dear Count I just don’t understand what is happening to the revered and illustrious Jedi order they seem to be crumbling around us.” “They’ve lost their way and I’ve tried over the years to make them see that they are evolving into nothing more than a glorified security service to protect the interests of the Galactic Senate. I’m done with them and I told them so.” “You seem very determined Count, but I suppose I should be grateful that a man of your power and knowledge has consented to become my personal adviser. Your vision and mine for the future of our great republic seems to be the same. However, while ever Valorum is in control corruption will run unchecked. We need a strong leader, one who can deal with insurgents quickly and effectively.” “I am determined Senator, and that is why I felt it was imperative that we begin building an army so that in the future we will be prepared to quell any rebellion uprising." “Speaking of an army, have you heard from Master Sifo-Dyas?” “Yes, he contacted me a few hours ago and I gave him the details of the man who will be the genetic host for the creation of the clones. He is a bounty hunter named Jango Fett. I’ve already been in touch with Fett and he’ll arrive on Kamino shortly. Dyas will arrange for him to be housed at the facility while the cloners extract what they need from him to begin production. Dyas should be ready to return to Corruscant within the next day or so.” “Excellent Count, I am eager to speak to him and learn a bit more about this cloning procedure, would you please let me know when he returns?” “Certainly Senator Palpatine, I will, but now if you’ll excuse me I have a few people to speak to. I’ll join you in an hour for the midday meal.” “Of course Count, please don’t let me keep you from your duties.” Palpatine said. He couldn’t believe his plans were running as smoothly as they were. He now had a highly decorated Jedi Master at his disposal. He could sense the righteous anger pouring off Dooku at the mere mention of the Jedi. That antagonism would come in handy in the future. Dooku was a proud and arrogant man whose influence over the weak minded would come in handy in the years to come. He glanced over to the group of Jedi seniors and felt loathing fill him. He kept his abhorrence behind strong shields, put on his most distinguished and likable face, and made his way past them and out the door. Jedi were the bane of his existence and he knew that one day his plans to exterminate them would be complete. However, until that time came he would continue to be the likable and professional Senator from Naboo. Slipping into his office, he contacted his apprentice. “Darth Maul, Dyas will be leaving Kamino very soon. He will have to stop over on the planet Ruusan to re-fuel for the remainder of the trip back to Coruscant; disable his ship so he’ll have to stay overnight. Make sure that you retrieve all the documentation he has on the clones and then kill him and destroy his ship!” “Yes Master it will be my pleasure.” Palpatine leant back and rested his head on the plush and comfortable high backed chair. He was satisfied that his apprentice would obey his commands, he had every confidence in Mauls abilities. He was stronger, faster and superior than any Jedi in the galaxy. He’d chosen well when he’d acquired the Zabrak as his apprentice and the years of training had moulded Maul into a lethal weapon and an exemplar exponent of the dark arts. Nevertheless, he knew that Maul was growing impatient to eradicate their enemy and deep down he was growing impatient too. He’d waited a lifetime to repay the Jedi for wiping out nearly every sith in existence. However, unlike his young apprentice he had learned patience and had the ability to endure any provocation that might be put before him. The thrill of the hunt filled him with strength of mind, knowing that in a mere ten years he will control an army that will outnumber the Jedi five thousand to one. Complacency and lack of foresight will be the Jedi’s undoing. Palpatine twirled his ornate chair around so he could gaze out into the distance. He wondered how his other weapon was developing. Everything was falling into place and he’d almost forgotten about the construction of his latest experimental device. He wrapped his long fingers around his com-unit and pressed in a code. “Kir Kanos here Sir.” “Ah, Kir my loyal guard; how is the construction of my freezing device coming along?” “My Lord, the second delivery of Dura steel has arrived and the chamber to suspend the gas within the carbonite is nearly completed. It should be ready to test within a week. Shall I order the Tibanna gas?” “Yes order it and make sure it can’t be traced back here!” A knock on his door had him cut the transmission quickly. “Come in.” “Senator, are you ready to join me for a meal?” “Certainly Count Dooku, I am quite hungry and I do enjoy the food here. Shall we go?” Palpatine slipped his com-unit into the pocket of his velvet robe and followed Dooku out the door. As they entered the private dining hall, Count Dooku spoke. “Senator Palpatine, I’ve decided to take up your offer of administrator on Raxus Prime. Once there I can continue my talks with Wat Tambor the Foreman of the Techno Union. In my previous talks with him, he indicated that the Union is fed up with the Republic’s ineffective bureaucrats and I’m sure they will see that my vision for an Independent Confederacy is the way of the future. We will have more power to fight corruption than if we stay aligned to the republic. The Techno Union and the Intergalactic Banking Clan are influential commercial factions and with their backing, we should be able to attract more mergers with other syndicates." “Ah, good my friend, I’m sure that once Valorum is ousted from office and I am elected, we shall be able to form an alliance with your new Confederacy.” “Do you have the numbers to be elected, Senator?” “I believe so Count. Situations and events are in motion that will lead to my nomination and I have the backing of several influential people who have assured me of my victory.” “I wonder how the Jedi will take the news when Valorum is removed from office. They have been quite vocal in the past of their high regard for him. Even those senior padawan’s over there, they seem fascinated by him.” Dooku pointed toward the young Jedi who were listening to something Chancellor Valorum was saying. Palpatine had to tamp down his irritation with Dooku. There was nothing he would like better than to tell him that those fool apprentices were nothing compared to his apprentice. Maul could wipe the floor with any one of them and probably finish them all off within a few minutes of challenging them to a fight to the death. He glanced across to where Dooku was looking and kept his mask of neutrality on his face. “I am sure Count, that when the time comes they will be just as dedicated to their new Chancellor. They do appear to be on the verge of Knighthood and as it is with all Knights, they are committed to the Republic no matter who is in charge. Tell me Count, do you know any of them personally?” “Actually Senator, I do. See that young Jedi over there, the one talking to Senator Organa?” “Yes, a fine looking young man.” Palpatine said pleasantly. “He is Qui-Gon Jinn’s Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi.” “Qui-Gon Jinn, wasn’t he your apprentice some years ago Count?” “Yes he was my apprentice.” “Obi-Wan Kenobi, the name is familiar; I’ve heard Master Yoda mention his name.” Palpatine said. “He is a very talented apprentice and is favoured by Master Yoda. He always speaks very highly of him. I haven’t seen him for several years, but I do know that he’s very perceptive with the Force. His forte is the Unifying Force and it always surprised me that Qui-Gon would take an apprentice that didn’t favour the living Force as he does.” “Oh? Is there a difference Count, you’ll have to excuse my ignorance. I’m not familiar with the workings of ‘you're’ Force,” he said pulling his blanket shield tighter around his façade. “Qui-Gon focuses on the Living Force and it guides him, he feels and senses the beings around him. This side of the Force deals with more of actual happenings in the here and now. However, the Unifying Force focuses on things to come, that is Obi-Wan’s forte, and even though the future is always in motion, he strives to develop an understanding of how the future and the present can compliment each other. Nevertheless, Qui-Gon frowns on the Unifying Force because the future does change and therefore he believes it is unreliable.” “Yes, I’m sure we’d all like to know what the future holds for us! How long has he been Master Jinn’s apprentice Count?” “For a long time, since he was about ten I think. Qui-Gon saw his potential and surprised everyone when he announced he wanted him. Senator if you have a minute to spare I would like you to meet him?” “Yes, yes, I have time.” Palpatine said keeping his face neutral and his annoyance masked. “Well if it isn’t my former Padawan’s Padawan! Obi-Wan Kenobi!” Count Dooku said as they stopped in front of Kenobi. Palpatine observed the apprentice and watched for any sign that he might be able to read the future. He certainly didn’t want some Jedi brat seeing what he had planned for him and every Jedi like him. The boy was as tall as he was and his eyes were full of light. It sickened Palpatine to see such clear eyes. He tamped down the urge to drop his shields to see whether this Jedi was as perceptive of the Force as Dooku thought. He had spent too many year’s finetuning his shields to keep the Jedi in the dark. He wasn’t about to throw away all he’s accomplished just yet. 	Azure_Angel2 Well I’m happy that you don’t like Palpatine. I am trying to make him sound evil. Thanks littleobiwankenobi You can hope. But I wouldn’t count on it. GeneralKenobi7 I wasn’t sure that Dooku knew who Palpy was in the beginning so I am keeping him in the dark until the time is right for Dooku to find out. Obi-Wans eyes are clear and of the light that is why Palpy hates all Jedi. Valairy_Scot An Obi-sicle, What flavour do you want. I’m hoping for fun dynamic's and adventure too, earlybird-obi-wan Who indeed will he freeze! There are so many Padawans to choose from. I want to show how Palpy manipulates everyone. Icepaw_Kenobi Whats going to happen to Obi-Wan… I can’t say. I hope I can keep Palpy in character .Not much was known about him so I’m guessing For most of his early decisions.
