Time and space - A new hope. A/U. Obi-Qui- Palpatine- Anakin-- Leia-Luke-Han 29/9 new post
To make up for the wait I posted two sections together, it is my longest post ever.
Here we go.
ooo
When Obi-Wan’s eyes met those of Count Dooku’s, a feeling of dread rose within his chest. Dooku was the last person he expected to see here in the senate building. The man was heading straight for him with a smile on his face. There was no way to avoid speaking with his Master’s, Master.
It had only been a couple of days since Master Dooku had formally renounced his place in the Jedi order. It was an unforeseen announcement, which shook everyone, including his Master, Qui-Gon. Not that his master showed any disappointment outwardly, but Obi-Wan felt the concern, which was kept behind passive features, but because of their strong bond Obi-Wan knew his master had been stunned.
Obi-Wan noticed a senator trailing along with Dooku and although Obi-Wan had never met Palpatine, he recognised him from his studies of appointed members of the Republic. The senator’s face had been on news broadcasts in the past week, due to the perceived threat to Naboo from the Trade Federation.
Obi-wan collected his thoughts and concentrated on Dooku as he said hello. “Hello Mas… - Count Dooku.” he corrected as he bowed and then focused on the Count.
“Oh come now my boy! Don’t be so formal, you used to call me grand master once!” he berated.
“I’m sorry Sir; Master Qui-Gon said that I should call you by your title now that you’ve left the order.” He quickly glanced at Palpatine, who had a strange smile plastered on his face.
“I didn’t think your Master was such a stickler for protocol my boy, he never used to be. I think your dedication to the Jedi’s rules has rubbed off on him a bit. Nevertheless, I may have left the Jedi order for better pastures, but I still think of you as my Grand Padawan - although I suppose it will be Knight Kenobi soon. Have the council given you a time frame yet for the beginning of your trials?”
“I don’t believe I’m ready to be Knighted yet Sir.”
“You’re too modest Obi-Wan, I’m sure the illustrious Council will want their finest apprentices to become Knights as soon as possible. However, I didn’t come over here to discuss the Jedi order and their decision making with you. I want to introduce my friend to you.”
Obi-Wan sensed a slight disruption in the Force, and with it came a tingling sensation from behind his eyes, heralding the arrival of another headache. It was almost identical to the one he’d felt a few days ago before he’d spoken to Master Sifo-Dyas. He hurriedly shored up his shields in case another vision was imminent. The previous one had taken him completely by surprise, but since that day he’d meditated and analysed each feeling that had assaulted him before the vision took hold, he knew what to expect now and hopefully he wouldn’t make a fool of himself and collapse like a baby, if indeed he was prone to have any more of them.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi, I would like you to meet Senator Palpatine!” Dooku placed his hand on Obi-Wan’s shoulder and turned his head to look at Palpatine. “Senator, this is one of the orders brightest students and the Padawan to the infamous Qui-Gon Jinn!”
Obi-Wan drew on the Force and concentrated on his breathing, with Dooku’s hand on his shoulder images began to flash before his eyes and as quickly as they invaded his consciousness, he pushed them aside so he could concentrate on Palpatine. He looked down at the senator’s hand, which was outstretched toward him. There was something intangible about this man that he couldn’t distinguish. He held himself ridged and smiled as he shook Palpatine’s hand.
“It is an honour to meet you Senator Palpatine,” Obi-Wan said calmly and pulled his hand away as quickly as he could. He could feel his temperature rising and he struggled to keep his face a picture of serenity.
The Force must have been protecting him at that moment; because the sound of another senator’s voice had Palpatine turning around almost immediately and Dooku released his grip on Obi-Wan’s shoulder and turned away from him too.
“Senator Palpatine, I’m sorry to interrupt you, however, Chancellor Valorum is requesting your attendance at a meeting immediately. Apparently there’s been some new developments with the Trade Federation and the Chancellor wishes to discuss them with you.”
Obi-Wan was grateful that he was a lowly padawan at this moment, for they paid no more attention to him and walked away. All eyes were on the retreating group, which gave Obi-Wan the opportunity to slip unnoticed out into the hallway. His head was spinning and he could barely walk straight, he put his hand on the wall for support and made his way to the fresher. Images were bombarding his brain and he desperately wanted to sit down.
He closed the door behind him and sunk down on a bench in the shower area. Luckily for him, no one was in the fresher and he dropped his head into his hands and let the vision take hold. After a few minutes he slowly drew on the Force to ease the throbbing headache that had punched its way into his forehead. He was trying to keep himself focused, but his eyelids were feeling heavy and he was fighting the desire to sleep when a voice that was familiar permeated the confusion in his head.
“Obi-Wan, are you alright? I saw you leave the room in a hurry. One minute you were talking to Dooku and the next you were heading down here. You don’t look too good.”
“G-aren, I have a splitting headache, can you help me get out of here?”
“Yes, the hanger is at the end of this hallway, we’ll catch an air taxi back to the temple. I’ll contact them and let them know we’re coming back and I’ll call your Master too.”
“No Garen, don’t do that. He’s gone to the other side of Coco town to see Dex, I just need to lie down. I’ll tell him about it when he returns.”
Obi-Wan collapsed on his bed once Garen made him promise to call him when he woke up. He didn’t bother to take his boots off, just his utility belt, which didn’t make it to the side table and landed on the floor. He knew he should get up and pick it up, but he couldn’t seem to lift his head. Several hours later he woke up feeling much better and he could hear his master out in the kitchen rattling some cups. Obi-Wan didn’t want to disturb him so he sat up and crossed his legs, sinking into a deep meditation so he could analysis these new visions.
Some time later he could sense a presence just outside his meditative state calling to him. “Padawan, Obi-Wan?”
Obi-Wan took a deep breath, releasing it slowly and then he opened his eyes. “Hello Master” he said smiling.
Obi-Wan could see the look of relief in his Masters eyes. “Obi-Wan, are you alright. I came home and saw you passed out on the bed.”
“Master I think you’re exaggerating, I was just asleep!”
“Padawan- I spoke to Garen- and you don’t usually leave your sabre and belt lying on the floor. You were more than just asleep. You had another headache didn’t you?”
“Yes Master, I was going to tell you, but first I wanted to meditate on the images that I saw and I do apologise for dropping my belt.“
“So you had another vision, was it about Sifo-Dyas again?”
“No Master, it was chaotic, and jumbled, but this time I sensed the vision coming. I was in the cafeteria and count Dooku came up to speak to me.”
“You saw my former Master, in the senate building?”
“Yes, and he introduced me to his friend Senator Palpatine. I had vague impressions of them in the future and they were in positions of power and Dooku seemed to be in control of a powerful corporation.”
“Positions of power.”
“Yes Master, is it possible that Senator Palpatine could be made Chancellor over this Naboo fiasco?”
“No Padawan - you must have interpreted your vision incorrectly. Tell me more of what you saw?”
"I saw flashes of a battle, just bits and pieces, the Trade Federation invaded Naboo. There were thousands of droids, we were there too. A dark shadow prevented me from seeing everything clearly, but I sense that whatever happens on Naboo is the beginning of a long battle, which will eventually have devastating effect on the republic and the Jedi.”
“What makes you think that Padawan?”
“In my meditations, I saw an upheaval in the Force, it was like a dark cloud encroaching slowly on the galaxy and events after that time drew the darkness in. However, even as I say that I saw a celebration on Naboo, all the Council members were there and Palpatine was there too, but he was Chancellor.”
“Did you have a headache, before you had that vision?”
“Yes Master it was similar to the one I had before, but I feel fine now.”
“Obi-Wan, you know the process of elections and Valorum still has two years left on his term of office. He’s well established in the position and he has the backing of the Senate and the Jedi order. Palpatine is a relatively unknown senator; his only claim to fame is the current problems Naboo is facing with the trade embargo. That is the only reason he’s in the spotlight. If it were time for elections, he may get a few sympathy votes because of Naboo’s problems. However, he doesn’t have enough backing to become Chancellor.”
“I know Master, but it felt so real and there was someone small standing next to me, but it wasn’t you.”
“Who was it?”
“I couldn’t see his face.”
“What about Dooku, what did he say to you?”
“He spoke as if we were close, but I’ve only spoken to him once or twice and that was when you first took me as your apprentice. He thought I was going to take the trials soon, but I told him I wasn’t ready.”
Qui-Gon raised his eyebrow. “You told him that you weren’t ready to take the trials, is that how you truly feel Padawan?”
A blush rose in Obi-Wan’s cheeks. “Master it’s not my place to decide that and I know that when you feel I’m ready, you will let me know.”
“You are wise beyond your years Obi-Wan and I must admit that perhaps you are closer to being ready than either of us is ready to acknowledge and that brings me to a possible explanation of your recent vision. Earlier today before I went to Dex’s, the council called me to a meeting. It seems that the Trade Federation has illegally blocked Naboo and the Chancellor has requested that Jedi go to negotiate a settlement. We were chosen to go Obi-Wan. You may have sensed my discussion with the council through our bond and that may have played on your mind, causing the visions you saw.”
“In what way Master?”
“During the meeting, the council asked me how I felt about Dooku leaving the order and had I known about it. I felt slightly irritated that they would even ask if I knew. I told them that I didn’t and that I hadn’t spoken to Dooku for many years, as our paths never crossed. There is possibility you sensed my thoughts about Dooku through our bond. Then we spoke about the troubles on Naboo and senator Palpatine's name came up. The council explained that he was apparently very close to the new Queen of Naboo and he was very upset that the Trade Federation was threatening her planet. I’ve only met him once before and I thought that he wasn’t strong enough to be the representative of a planet. His modesty and unassuming nature lent to him being a follower not a leader. Then the subject of you came up.”
“Me Master, why?”
“Your Knighthood, they asked me if I thought you were ready to begin testing for the trials. The question made me feel guilty, because I’ve been avoiding that inevitability. The main thought that raced through my mind was that I wasn’t sure I was ready to let you go. Nevertheless, they made me realise that I was being selfish holding you back. Truthfully, I do believe you are ready and I assume it has been on your mind as well?"
“Master, I’m grateful that you say I’m ready, but I’m not so sure. You’ve often said that I’m headstrong and that I have much to learn about the living Force. That doesn’t sound like I’m ready to me?”
“The fact is Obi-Wan, I’ve taught you everything that I can, and the rest comes from life’s experiences. You’ll be a great Knight, I have no doubt about that. You have been a good apprentice and it has been a privilege to teach you. It will be my honour to cut your braid and declare you a Knight.”
“Master it is I who was fortunate and I'll do my best to follow your teachings.”
“I’m sure you will, Padawan. However, we are jumping ahead. My reason for telling you all that transpired in the meeting, is because of your vision. Somehow through our connection it is possible that my thoughts and yours have mixed together, you are prone to centre on your anxieties and the headache may have boosted them. Your headache may have been caused by the emotions I was radiating through the bond when I spoke about those people.”
“But what about my first vision, where you talking about Sifo-Dyas when I was in the garden?”
“No I wasn’t, but when you were with Garen and Bant in the garden. I was talking about you to my friends and the subject of you’re knighthood came up then too. I’m not trying to discount that what you saw may have some bearing in the future, but it is possible that you used his image to follow instead of acknowledging your readiness to be knighted. Do you think that may be possible Obi-Wan?”
“I don’t know what to think Master, I understand what you’re saying, but what about the celebration I saw, I was there with someone who was much younger than me?”
“Close your eyes and picture yourself at the celebration you saw Padawan and describe the scene.”
Obi-Wan did and he brought the image up. He was standing at the top of some steps and there were many Gungans in a parade and the Queen was presenting a glowing globe to another Gungan. Obi-Wan felt that there was something different about his features, but he couldn’t place what it was and it seemed to him that he wasn’t happy to be there and he wondered why. There was a boy at his side but he couldn’t see his face. Abruptly, he realised what was different about his own image. His braid was gone, he wasn’t a Padawan anymore! His eyes shot open and he looked into his masters eyes. “I’m a Knight at the celebration and I think I have a Padawan!”
“Well then how do you explain that Obi-Wan. We’re going to Naboo tomorrow and you haven’t begun your trials yet and they usually take a few weeks to complete. The council don’t usually let new Knights take on an apprentice until they’ve proved they can handle the responsibility. Have you seen an initiate that you are interested in Obi-Wan?”
“No Master, I haven’t watched any initiates. I didn’t expect to be knighted any time soon and I think I’d like to wait awhile before I did take on an apprentice... Do you really believe that everything I saw was projected to me by your emotions?”
“It is the only logical explanation Padawan, unless you are going to become a Knight and acquire an apprentice in the next two days, or that Palpatine could miraculously become Chancellor overnight and I’m certain Dooku doesn’t have aspirations to be a political leader, he dislikes politicians more than I do. What other explanation is there?”
“I suppose you’re right Master.”
“You do tend to worry over the slightest things Padawan, and I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps you should remain on Coruscant and rest. These headaches seem to drain your energy.”
“Please Master, I’m fine, if it’s just you’re emotions that are causing my headaches and visions, I just need to strengthen my shields and keep you out of my head!” He indicated by putting his hands over his ears.
Qui-Gon raised his eyebrow and shook his head. “It seems you haven’t lost your sarcastic wit, my young apprentice? However, I will be watching you and if I feel that you’re not coping I - will - recommend that you return to Coruscant.”
“Yes Master.”
Obi-Wan couldn’t accept in his mind that his masters explanation was all there was to his visions. However, he couldn’t risk being left behind. Therefore he would keep any further visions to himself until he could make sense of them. The most disturbing part of all of his visions was the fact that he couldn’t find his Master in any of them. That thought filled him with dread, because he knew without a doubt that he had to protect his master. The future depended on it.
“When do we leave Master?”
“In an hour Padawan, I’ve already downloaded the mission notes to the computer on board the ship. We can discuss our course of action on the way to Naboo.”
ooo
In the common room of the Viceroy’s ship.
“How do you think the trade viceroy will deal with the Chancellors demands, Master.”
“These federation types are cowards, the negotiations will be short Padawan and we’ll be going home in no time.”
Nevertheless, the next few minutes proved Qui-Gon wrong and both Jedi fought their way through the viceroys ship to a large hanger filled with thousands of battle droids.
“It’s a droid army, Master.”
“It looks as if they are preparing to invade Naboo,” Qui-Gon remarked.
“Well I’d say that this mission is past the negotiation stage Master, and you were right about one thing, the negotiations were short!”
Qui-Gon eyed his apprentice and huffed, ‘impertinent imp.”
ooo
Naboo
Once on Naboo they rescued Queen Amidala and her handmaidens from the clutches of the Viceroy and escaped in her cruiser. The Queen was going to Coruscant to formally complain about the Trade Federation, and on the flight back to Coruscant the Queen who was disguised as Padmè one of the handmaiden’s, introduced her self to Obi-Wan.
“Hello, Master Kenobi my name is Padmè. My Queen asked me to thank you for your help. You were very brave back there.”
Obi-Wan bowed. “My Lady, I was only doing my duty and following my Masters orders, and I’m an apprentice, not a Master. I think it is Qui-Gon that you should be thanking, my Lady.”
“The Queen has already thanked Master Jinn, and she wanted to make sure you were comfortable,” she smiled as she held out a bowl of fruit to him.
“Thank you my lady…”
“Please, call me Padmè.”
“Very well, Padmè,” he said as he dipped his head.
She watched him place the bowl on the table and she waited for him to open the door for her. She turned towards him and quickly kissed him on his cheek. She felt him go ridged and gasp; he had a look of disbelief on his face. His eyes seemed luminous and were staring at her, although not really looking at her. More like seeing through her, Padmè smirked, she’d heard about the Jedi, and assumed his dazed expression was probably because he’d never kissed a girl before. Padmè smiled and left him standing there.
Obi-Wan closed the door behind her and leant against it. He now had a face to go with the person in one of his visions.
Padmè was no handmaiden, she ‘was’ the Queen and she was an integral part of the future as Obi-Wan was seeing it. The planet Tatooine flashed into his thoughts and he felt an overwhelming darkness weigh him down. He shivered and pushed away from the door. He knew that his master would sense his distress through their bond and he didn’t want to be sent back to Coruscant, so he strengthened his shields and concentrated on keeping his focus controlled.
Images flickered and flashed and pulled Obi-Wan into the future. Padmè was fighting along side him with another Jedi. The vision ended with Yoda arriving with several battle ships full of soldiers. Count Dooku had tried to kill them, but he escaped after battling with Master Yoda. Padmè was pregnant and she was in danger. They ended up on Mustafar and Obi-Wan felt the heat of the lava burn his throat as he fought a man possessed by darkness. Padmè was dying, but before she did she had twins. Jedi were dying at the hands of the clones.
He tamped down the immense pain and anguish that tried to leak through his shields as he pulled out of his vision. He glanced around the room thankful that Qui-Gon hadn’t entered while he’d been caught in the vision. His head was throbbing but this time he’d controlled the pain better than before. He felt the ship vibrate and knew that something was wrong. By the time he arrived in the cockpit they were changing course to set down for repairs to the ship.
ooo
Tatooine.
Obi-Wan was waiting for his master to return with the boy he’d freed from slavery, when he sensed a bright presence in the Force enter the ship. A small boy hurried toward the pilot, “Qui-Gon is in trouble, a man attacked him. They’re fighting out there!”
Obi-wan could see a black cloaked being, attacking his master and a flash of a dark shadow that killed Sifo-Dyas came to mind. The pilot hovered over Qui-Gon as he jumped into the ship collapsing to the floor as Obi-Wan and the boy crouched down next to him.
“What was that?” Obi-Wan asked.
“I am not sure,” said Qui-Gon.
“He was trained in the Jedi arts, and he had a ‘red sabre’!” Obi-Wan said. Putting emphasis on the ‘red sabre’ reminding Qui-Gon of his first vision
“Well who ever and whatever it was, we shall discuss it with the Council.” Qui-Gon said as he looked up at Obi-Wan “Anakin Skywalker, I would like you to meet Obi-Wan Kenobi, my apprentice.”
“Wow so you’re a Jedi too!” he exclaimed. “It is a pleasure to meet you.”
Obi-Wan was prepared this time, he felt the tremor in the Force that was warning him of an impending vision, this boy was important and soon he would know why. Obi-Wan knew his master would sense his shields as he pulled them up, but he didn’t have time to worry about that. It was imperative that he remain focussed as he shook the boy’s hand.
“Hello Anakin it is nice to meet you.” He let go of Anakin’s hand and turned to his Master, who had a questioning look on his face.
“If you will excuse me Master I need to confirm that our course is set to Coruscant.” Obi-Wan said as he held his Masters gaze, not flinching or fidgeting.
“Very well Padawan, but I want to speak to you soon. I’ll get Anakin settled and then I’ll meet you in our cabin.”
Obi-Wan fled the ramp area, making a quick stop to the cockpit before hurrying to his cabin. He could barely keep the visions in check as they bombarded his psyche.
Qui-Gon’s death at the hands of the one he fought today. A promise made to a dying Master! “Train him he’s the chosen one” Padmè and Anakin their hidden love, Anakin’s friendship with Palpatine; War and more War, the death of many friends, the rise of the Sith. The massacre at the Jedi Temple, the turning of a friend into an enemy, “I hate you!” Despair and guilt, filled the future.
Everything he’d seen was in a future that he was a part of, was he having these visions because his Master was going to die. Could that dark future be prevented if Qui-Gon lived to train the boy himself?
He’d sensed that Naboo was the catalyst, had the Force given him these visions so he could prevent it. He’d seen the melting pit and the moment when his master met his end. It couldn’t end like that he had to change the outcome. He would not let his master die. He paced back and forth and he felt drained, but these last two visions hadn’t affected him as they had previously, he’d learned to channel the Force and control them somewhat.
Obi-Wan knew that his Master had sensed something and he would come looking for him shortly. He undressed and stepped into the fresher and let the warm water rejuvenate and relax him. He undid his braid taking care not to drop the numerous beads of achievement, which were plaited into it. By the time Qui-Gon entered their cabin Obi-Wan was dressed and trying to re-plait his braid.
ooo
Qui-Gon studied his Apprentice from across the room as the young man tried in vane to plait his braid. Qui-Gon could sense nothing, but slight frustration coming from Obi-Wan and it was because of the task at hand, nothing else.
He walked up behind Obi-Wan. “Padawan, may I help you with those?”
“Thank you Master, I would be forever grateful. I appear to have forgotten how to do it.” Obi-Wan grinned at his Master.
“This may be the last time I’ll have to help you with this Padawan. It won’t be long before it comes off." He said tugging at the braid.
“What will you do Master without this piece of hair to pull when it suits you.” Obi-Wan smirked, keeping the conversation light.
“Oh never fear Padawan mine, I’m sure I’ll be able to keep you in line, even without your braid,” he joked. “Nevertheless, Padawan, on a serious note, I feel that once you’re Knighted I sense the force urging me to complete Anakin’s training.”
“Yes Master, I sense it also, but will the council agree with you?”
“Probably not Padawan, he’s too old by their standards and he has a certain amount of fear in him, but I believe he is the chosen one and he’s too strong in the Force to leave behind.”
“Yes Master I agree, he is very vulnerable and if he falls into the wrong hands, he could become a powerful enemy. However, with you as his Master he’ll learn to let go of his fear, as I did. Then he will fulfil prophesy, if indeed he is the chosen one.”
Qui-Gon studied his overly calm Padawan. “You seem different my Padawan, are you alright. I sensed a tremor in the Force when we were on the ramp and you were quick to excuse yourself.”
Obi-Wan sighed and he sat on the bed. “Yes Master, when I met Anakin, I had a vision and I saw my future clearer and my headache faded and the images that had plagued me before left me. I think seeing Anakin and sensing that he must be trained, put everything into perspective."
“So my clone of Yoda, what does that all mean?” Qui-Gon asked.
Obi-Wan certainly wasn't going to tell his Master that his latest vision had Qui-Gon dying at the hands of the creature he'd just fought. He needed time to work through all this information and formulate a plan and a course of action.
“I believe you were right Master, when you said that I was drawing from your thoughts. I think that in my sub-conscious I knew that the time was growing near for me to be Knighted and it scared me I suppose. You said you weren’t sure you wanted to let me go and I wasn’t sure I was ready to leave your side. Those visions I had were all about me going on missions and facing the unknown. I think the headaches were caused by the tress of accepting my place in the future. After I met Anakin I felt that it was time for me to stand on my own two feet and let you do what you do best.”
“Pray tell me Padawan what might that be?” Qui-Gon questioned.
“To be the best mentor a padawan could ever have. Anakin needs you and I’m ready to let go now.”
“Padawan, you are a bright light in the Jedi order and I am proud of you. You’ll achieve greatness in your own right, never doubt that Padawan.”
ooo
Coruscant
.
They hadn’t been on Coruscant very long before the Queen wanted to return to Naboo. Qui-Gon felt that once the mission was over he would speak in depth to Obi-Wan about his visions. He’d remembered parts of Obi-Wan's first vision and it had come true. There was a man with a red sabre, but Qui-Gon didn’t want to jump to conclusions until he was certain that it was a sith. There had been no evidence of them for a millennia. It was hard to believe that they had re-emerged and he doubted that the council would believe it either. He wondered if his scepticism had forced Obi-Wan to keep his visions to himself. His Padawan wasn’t prone to making up stories, but even the idea of the sith returning was far fetched and hard to believe.
When they had more time he would sit down with Obi-Wan and really listen to what he was saying, but for now they had to protect the Queen. There had been some uproar in the senate, but Qui-Gon didn’t have time to discover what it was before they were streaking through hyperspace. Anakin had come with them and he was in the handmaiden’s company while Qui-Gon discussed their options with the Queen, Obi-Wan and Captain Panaka.
ooo
The battle of Naboo
.
Obi-Wan wrote down all the information that came from his visions. He’d tried to speak to Master Yoda prior to them leaving Coruscant, but he’d gone to the Senate building with Mace Windu. He wondered if they, like his master would dismiss his visions as the anxieties of a youngling. Even he found some of the images hard to believe, but now that he’d seen the Zabrak, he knew what was to come on Naboo. Obi-Wan folded the parchment and then he folded it repeatedly, putting it in his inner tunic pocket, right next to his river stone, the one Qui-Gon had given him many years ago.
Naboo was in the grip of a battle, in the ensuing fight, Anakin boarded a fighter and took off to help destroy the Droid control ship. While Padmè and the handmaidens’ regained control of the Palace. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan faced the demon from a few days before. Their battle took them to the central power generation station. This was the place Obi-Wan had seen in his vision, where Qui-Gon would die. He had to change the outcome even if it meant dying him self.
As the fight wore on Obi-Wan saw the red energy shields blocking the melting pit. With all his strength he jumped over the red devil they were fighting, and ran forward. Obi-Wan had studied the plans and instead of being caught in between the sections, he would disarm the field altogether.
Obi-Wan rammed his sabre through the controls, disengaging the laser beams. He sensed a flash of anger from the Zabrak. He sensed the devils plan was to separate his master from him, giving the sith the upper hand.
Obi-Wan was knocked back and slid across the melting pit floor, it would be in the next few strikes that the Zabrak would butt Qui-Gon in the chin and then kill him. He had to act quickly. He didn’t have time to worry about his own safety and he drew the Force around him in a swirl and propelled himself across the expanse of room. The Zabrak butted Qui-Gon’s forehead and he brought his sabre around to strike the final blow.
The strength of the blow was toppling Qui-Gon backwards as Obi-Wan was coming down with his feet stretched out. One foot connected with Qui-Gon’s shoulder propelling him further away from the siths blade as the other foot pressed down on the sith’s sabre. The force of his attack knocked the sith back and Obi-Wan followed through with his sabre across his midriff, slicing the sith in half.
Obi-Wan hurried to his master, Qui-Gon was kneeling on the floor dazed from the blow on the head.
“Master! are you alright?”
“Yes, Padawan, I am, but I couldn’t right myself and his blade was aimed at my chest. I saw you spinning towards me, and your foot connected with my shoulder. His blade was so close another second and I would be one with the force. You saved me Padawan.” Qui-Gon confirmed.
“I thought I was going to be too late, I saw what he was going to do, I could not let it happen Master, he confirmed.
“Obi-Wan you knew that he was going to kill me?”
“Master I saw it in a vis… -,” a loud boom abruptly stopped Obi-Wan from telling his Master everything.
“You must tell me everything later Padawan, however, right now we are needed by the people of Naboo.”
Battle droids were lying motionless all over the ground It appeared that the Droid control ship had been destroyed. Qui-Gon sent Obi-Wan to help Captain Panaka capture all the trade federation operatives while he joined Anakin and the Queen. The battle of Naboo was over and Nute Gunray was being escorted to jail. The Queen contacted the senate and shortly ships began arriving from Coruscant carrying the New Chancellor Palpatine and the Jedi Council.
By the time Obi-Wan and Panaka arrived back from the outer reaches of the planet with their prisoners, Naboo was celebrating with a banquet and the next day they were going to have a parade.
Obi-Wan hurried through the corridors wanting to speak to his Master and Master Yoda, he hoped that they’d believe his visions now that Palpatine had been proclaimed Chancellor. Everything that he’d written down up to this point had come true. He turned down another corridor and at the other end he noticed the New Chancellor talking to one of his special guards, he saw the man glance his way and then he left his guard and went through the door at the end of the hall where the celebrations were being held.
Obi-Wan kept back behind Captain Panaka and the other dignitaries so he could keep an eye on the Chancellor. He watched as Qui-Gon and Anakin were receiving praise from him and he noticed that Palpatine seemed very interested in Anakin and was paying special attention to the boy. Obi-Wan wanted to speak to his master or Master Yoda, but their time was taken up with well wishers and other important people.
At one point he did speak to his master, “Master I need to speak to you, it is very important, can we go somewhere quiet?”
“Of course Padawan? As a matter of fact I wanted to speak to you.”
Obi-Wan turned to head out the door when Anakin’s voice stopped him, “Master Qui-Gon, Padmè wants to speak to you. She sent me to get you.”
At the same time another voice, spoke to Obi-Wan, it was senator Organa from Alderaan, “Padawan Kenobi, could you please explain to a few of us here what it was like fighting the sith and can you tell us if you believe there are more of them?”
Obi-Wan noticed at least five senators waiting for his reply. He turned to Qui-Gon. “Master I will come and find you shortly.”
“Yes Padawan, it does seem that we have people to speak to right now.”
Some time later, Obi-Wan noticed that Qui-Gon was still speaking to the Queen and Anakin, he was thirsty so he went to the table and poured himself a cup of water, it was while he was there that he noticed Palpatine slip out the door. He couldn’t get a true grasp on Palpatine’s motives and he didn’t know if Palpatine was just a pawn in the sith’s uprising or he was a major player in it. He knew he should tell someone, but if he could just follow Palpatine he might get a clearer picture of the man.
He followed Palpatine, who seemed to be in no hurry and he led Obi-Wan along a corridor that led out into a private garden. Obi-Wan raised his shields and ventured along the path that Palpatine had taken. Obi-Wan was surprised when Palpatine seemed to disappear behind a sandstone wall. It wasn’t until he got to the wall that he realised there was an opening in it, there was a hidden panel. Palpatine had gone through, but the door hadn’t closed properly. Obi-Wan stopped a few metres from it when he felt a warning from the Force to go back. Obi-Wan turned to follow the Forces urgings and he put his hand on his sabre when three of the Chancellors security guards came up behind him.
“Master Jedi, can we be of any assistance to you, have you lost your way?” One of the guards asked distracting Obi-Wan, who had his back to the open doorway.
The force was screaming at him, but it was too late. A barrage of darts flew at him from all directions, he drew his sabre and deflected them, but there were too many and several of them hit his legs and neck. He felt his consciousness slipping away and he threw out a message to his master, //
Master, danger, Pa-
\\ but he couldn’t finish the sentence as sleep embraced him.

Wow, thanks a bunch for such a long and awesome post!
“What will you do Master without this piece of hair to pull when it suits you.” Obi-Wan smirked, keeping the conversation light.
“Oh never fear Padawan mine, I’m sure I’ll be able to keep you in line, even without your braid,” he joked.
And now an evil cliffie, noooo!! Obi never got a chance to tell Qui and Yoda about his visions! And isn't the paper he wrote them down on still in his pocket?! If he's frozen, no one will know what's going to happen until it's too late. Oh dear, oh dear...

What a long complex and difficult up-date!
Yet so brilliant. I like the character developement in your AU-SW universe. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are more natural with one another as in the movie TPM.
I also like the way your decriptions of Obi´s vision, though it is wrong that he does not talk about them. Not talking about "a gift" makes it worse.

What an evil, evil cliffie!
That being said, I loved the pacing of the chapter.
And I hope Qui-Gon was able to hear Obi's warning.
Great update

What is going to happen to Obi-Wan I’m sure you can guess.
I’m happy that you like my version of events.
Thanks for reviewing.
GeneralKenobi7
It was long and it kept me busy. Obi-Wan is in trouble now.
Yes if he’d said Palpy I’d have no where to go.
Thank you and more is coming.

Your very welcome my friend.
That’s right they didn’t really listen and yes the paper is in his pocket.
AzureAngel2
Thank you it was hard to write but the next post is more so because it is all Palpatine.
I wanted Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan different from the usual angst and anger with each other. I wanted to show their true friendship and companionship.
True he should speak about his visions but would anyone believe him?
KELIA
What an evil, evil cliffie!

ooo
This post is from Palpatines perspective. Beginning four days earlier, prior to the battle of Naboo.
In the private dining hall within the walls of the senate building.
Palpatine smiled as Dooku introduced him to the apprentice, the one that Dooku had been praising for the last few minutes. He watched the body language of the apprentice and he had a vague impression that this Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn’t thrilled to have Dooku’s hand on his shoulder. Palpatine was sure that Dooku didn’t even notice; he was so absorbed in the sound of his own voice that he probably didn’t see the subtle intake of breath, the ridged posture and what seemed like a false smile plastered on Kenobi’s face.
The hand shake was controlled and quick and Palpatine had the distinct impression that Kenobi was not happy to shake his hand.
Abruptly, the sound of another senator’s voice had Palpatine lose interest in Kenobi and he turned quickly to acknowledge the senator. He’d been expecting Valorum to seek him out, because he knew that the Trade Federation had been in contact with the Chancellor. Of course he’d arranged it.
Earlier in the day he’d gone to his hidden headquarters, to make sure his servant had everything ready for the arrival of his apprentice Darth Maul, and while he was there his loyal guard Kir Kanos set up the holographic communication to contact Gunray.
It wasn’t long before the shimmering image of the Dark lord towered over the Viceroy and he gave the snivelling coward his orders.
Valorum was pacing back and forth when Palpatine entered the chamber. “Senator Palpatine, I’m glad you could get here so quickly, I was just explaining to Mas Amedda that the Trade Federation have pulled out of talks and are moving their ships closer to block the trade routes around Naboo. They are talking of an imminent invasion. This is getting out of hand and I’m going to send Jedi to negotiate with the Viceroy!”
Palpatine could sense the anxiety in Valorum’s voice; however, he kept his delight hidden.
“Chancellor I doubt very much that Gunray will attack Naboo. Basically he is a coward and they wouldn’t risk a war over their dispute. He might take the arrival of the Jedi as an indication that the Senate have abandoned the talks. I don’t agree that we should involve the Jedi just yet. Queen Amidala should be given the opportunity to confer with the Viceroy.”
“I agree with Senator Palpatine, sending Jedi will cause more dissension within the senate. This is not a Jedi matter!” Mas Amedda snapped.
“They are the Guardian’s of peace and Justice in the galaxy, we’ve spent enough time debating this, they will end the conflict and it is my decision to send them and I will!” Valorum stated.
Palpatine nodded to the Chancellor, “As you wish Chancellor I will inform Queen Amidala that Jedi ambassadors will be coming to negotiate on her behalf."
He left the Chancellors office feeling smug and an image of that apprentice came to mind.
What was that Jedi’s name? Oh yes, Kenobi – something or the other. I didn’t like him at all. It would be suit me if he is one of the Jedi that the Chancellor sends. My apprentice will make short work of him.
Palpatine left the senate building and went back to his sith headquarters. His apprentice had returned from Kamino with the approved orders for the clone army. Everything was going as planned, and the arrangements had been finalised for bounty hunter Fett to be housed at the complex on Kamino. Palpatine’s next step would be to send a special command chip to be inserted in each clone commander. Eventually he would have absolute control over the clones.
“Darth Maul, I want you ready to go to Naboo, if Viceroy Gunray allows the Jedi to escape. You will track them down and kill them.”
“I am ready Master, and what of Dooku have you finished with him. Should I terminate him too?”
“No, Maul, he may be useful for a while longer, he knows nothing of my real identity and I have need of his political savvy to increase my holdings through the galaxy. Nevertheless, once the Queen has signed the treaty with the Trade Federation, she will be of no use to me. She is well liked on Naboo and I cannot have her getting in my way, you may kill her and all the heads of state on Naboo. Of course I will be shocked when news reaches me of her death and I will be forced to install a new government to keep my home world of Naboo solvent.”
“It will be done Master.”
A few hours later, Sidious felt like ripping Gunray apart piece by piece. The incompetent piece of slime had allowed the Jedi to escape with the Queen and her entourage. It was then that he revealed his apprentice to the wretched Viceroy.
“My apprentice Darth Maul will find them. You concentrate on securing Naboo. I expect you to handle that otherwise you may end up wishing the Jedi had killed you!”
Palpatine hated it when his plans were fouled by bungling fools, but when his apprentice informed him that the Queen had escaped and was heading for Coruscant he hurried to the landing platform to greet her with the Chancellor.
She was accompanied by Jinn and Kenobi and a young boy. He could see that the Queen was distraught and he wondered if he could use her grief to his advantage. Palpatine escorted her to the conference room and she expressed her concerns about the validity of the Trade Federations move to invade Naboo.
“My Queen the senate is overflowing with deceit and bribery, the Trade Federation is in control. If only there was a Chancellor in power who would stand up against these people. Unfortunately, when it comes to preventing these atrocities Chancellor Valorum has little power. He’s been accused of accepting bribes himself and it seems the Bureaucrats have control over him.”
“What can we do?” she asked hoping that her loyal senator has a suggestion.
"If the Chancellor doesn’t help, you should call for a vote of no confidence in his rule, it will make way for a stronger Supreme Chancellor to be elected. One who will control the bureaucrats and fight for justice for Naboo.”
ooo
An hour later he couldn’t believe his good fortune. Queen Amidala had fallen for his convincing tale that Valorum had become an ineffective leader and in a fit of frustration she’d done exactly as he’d hoped. She moved a vote of no confidence in Valorum’s leadership.
Palpatine had been nominated and he promised her that if he was elected Chancellor, he would do away with corruption.
He was charmed to see the some hint of emotion on the faces of the Jedi council when he was announced the New Chancellor. The Jedi had not considered that their trusted friend Valorum would be so quickly deposed. The fools had no idea he had designed and executed this plan and now he was the most powerful man in the Galaxy.
Chancellor Palpatine’s new position afforded him the right to install security personnel of his choice. Therefore he headed to his compound to speak to Kir Kanos personally.
“My Lord, is there a problem I wasn’t expecting you so soon?” Kir Kanos said as he bowed low to the black cloaked being.
“There has been an election Kir, and I have been elected Chancellor. I want you to bring five of your most trusted men with you; I’m installing you as my personal guards.”
“It will be my honour to serve you in that capacity My Lord.”
‘Tell me is the carbonite freezing chamber finished Kir?”
“Yes my Lord, it is ready to be tested.”
“Very good Kir, I’m sure I will have a subject to test it on soon.”
“Do you have someone in mind, my Lord?”
“No I don’t, but I would dearly love it to be a Jedi.”
Palpatine decided to spend several hours practicing his sabre techniques with the use of some remote droids, as he hadn’t had much time to practice lately and it gave him a thrill to destroy the remotes as quickly as they charged him. Some time later he was about to leave his dark home to return to the senate rotunda, when a dark disturbance in the Force filled him with blinding rage and he screamed out with so much contempt and hatred for the Jedi.
“My Lord what's happened?" Kir asked hesitantly, as blue lightning split the air in an arc and it hit the wall with sparks flying in all directions.
“The - Jedi – scum – have – killed – my - apprentice!” He snarled.
Sidious paced the floor swearing obscenities at every living Jedi in existence, and it took him some time to control his anger and calm down.
By the time he arrived back to his office he’d heard over the Holo-net news of Naboo’s victory against the Trade Federation. He had to sit through a meeting with the entire Jedi council who couldn’t believe that the being Kenobi had killed was a sith.
Kenobi, that wretched whelp, I can’t believe Maul allowed that scum to kill him.
He thought.
It was almost laughable that the esteemed council were still hesitant in openly confirming that the sith had re-surfaced and weren’t extinct. Oh how he wanted to draw his sabre and decapitate all of them right then and there, but unlike his now deceased apprentice he’d learned to harness his anger and keep it under wraps.
Victory on Naboo
He would join the Jedi High Council and other dignitaries and go to Naboo to join in the celebrations. His first duty would be to congratulate Kenobi and then he would plan his revenge against him.
The celebration was arranged quickly when the Queen called Palpatine to tell him the good news. He wanted to get the celebrations over with as soon as possible, so he suggested they have a dinner celebration that evening and then the next day they could have their parade.
It bolstered his superiority when she complied with his wishes without hesitation. He smiled knowing that this was just the beginning of his reign. No-one would disagree with the Supreme Chancellor.
He held his real persona behind impenetrable shields when he saw Kenobi. Darth Maul had been at least ten years older and yet he’d been defeated by him. He knew now that he had misjudged the invincibility of his apprentice and he would have to assess his training methods when he began training a new apprentice.
Kenobi!
It hardly seemed like a week ago that he’d been introduced to him. How he wished he could strangle the life out of the Jedi brat. However, that would have to wait for another time. He smiled and he spoke in a voice that was humble and thankful.
“Padawan Kenobi, the republic owes you a great deal, we had no idea that the sith had resurfaced…”
He was thankful that Kenobi didn’t speak he just bowed.
“Master Jinn, you must be quite proud of your apprentice?” Palpatine said turning towards the Master.
“Obi-Wan did his duty, he is trained to serve and protect Chancellor. He is a credit to his training and yes, I am proud of him.”
Palpatine looked down at the young boy standing in front of Jinn “Pray tell me, are you Anakin? The pilot who destroyed the Droid control ship!”
“Yes Sir, that’s me. I got my training from racing pods. I’m the best pod racer on Tatooine and I’m the only human that has ever won the Boonta eve race.”
“My - my, is that so Anakin, I’m impressed and you deserve our praise. Queen Amidala speaks highly of you and she credits you for saving our planet. Where you scared Anakin?”
“Nop, I wasn’t scared I’m a good pilot and I wanted to send them droids packing. They were trying to kill Padmè, er- I mean the Queen and I wasn’t going to let anything happen to her.”
“Well you certainly saved the day young Skywalker,” he said patting Anakin on his shoulder and thought.
The boy seems willing and eager to protect the Queen. He seems to have an attachment to her. He craves excitement and wants to stand out in a crowd. All the attributes I could use in an apprentice. I sense that he loves to be the centre of attention. I must be certain to give him plenty.
“So Anakin, I’ve heard that you’re to begin your training as a Jedi soon. Is that true?”
“Yep, Master Qui-Gon is going to begin training me when Obi-Wan is Knighted!”
“That is wonderful Anakin, I’m sure you’ll be a brilliant Jedi under the tutelage of Master Jinn. After all, Padawan Kenobi has achieved the highest honour of being the first Jedi in a thousand years to kill a sith! And already you have attained the honour of saving Naboo. You were very brave Anakin and I’ll be watching your career with great interest.”
As He walked away from them he felt a vague nudge through the Force. Kenobi was touching his aura. It was a fleeting impression that any normal person with no force abilities would notice. Palpatine wondered if Dooku was right about the Jedi’s forte with the Unifying Force. Kenobi seemed very interested in watching him and now the nudge.
Palpatine knew that when two Force sensitive beings trained together for many years there could be a faint impression of the other in their aura, did Kenobi sense it in Maul when he killed him, was Kenobi searching for the Sith Master. Palpatine wasn’t sure, but he had to find out and if Kenobi knew who he was, he would make sure that he told no-one.
He studied Kenobi from the other side of the room and it did appear that the Jedi was trying to attract the attention of Yoda or Jinn. Nevertheless, with all the dignitaries vying for their time, neither Master had the time to speak to the apprentice. Nevertheless, there was definitely something on Kenobi’s mind and he saw his chance to find out what it was when Kenobi went to the table and poured himself a drink.
He waited until Kenobi was watching him and then he slipped out the door. He headed down the corridor and with expert manipulation of the force he could sense that Kenobi was following him. As he turned a corner into another corridor he took out his com-unit and contacted Kir.
“Kir, the Jedi Padawan Kenobi is following me. I will lead him to the secret doorway in the garden.” he whispered into the unit “I want him subdued, but alive.”
He didn’t want the fool Jedi to realise he was heading into a trap, so he made his walk as nonchalant as possible stopping to admire paintings that decorated the wall. Then he headed out into the queen’s private garden, he knew no-one would be in there and the noise of the waterfalls and the thick shrubbery would give his guards and advantage over Kenobi.
Palpatine was in his element, this would be the perfect opportunity to use his advanced skills in manipulation and send a sensation of well being toward the hapless Jedi. After all he was a Master at cloaking the dark side from even powerful Jedi like Yoda, so he knew he could confuse Padawan Kenobi’s senses for a brief moment and put him off guard. It would be enough time for Kenobi to see him enter the secret doorway at the base of a feature fountain. He only had to distract the Jedi for a few seconds while his men did the rest. If the Force warned Kenobi it would come too late.
He heard Kenobi ignite his sabre and then the sound of it clattering to the ground. He was confident his guards had overwhelmed the Jedi and he was delighted when he saw Kenobi crumpled in a heap on the ground.
“Good work, Kir! Take him through the tunnel and secure him on your ship. I want him taken to the compound on Coruscant and when you get there put him in the force dampened cell and keep him secured until I return."
“Yes my Lord, it will be done.”
Palpatine saw the glint of polished metal on the ground and he picked up Kenobi’s sabre. “Take this with you Kir; I don’t want anything that belongs to this insect to be found.”
Palpatine knew that Jinn would sense the disturbance in the force, so he hurried down through the tunnels coming out in the alcove just off the banquet hall. He stepped out, closing the door behind him and walked over to the window in full view of the guests. He casually gazed out the window taking in the views of the city of Theed. Almost immediately, the Queen rushed over to him.
“Chancellor! Master Jinn has sensed that something has happened to his apprentice, no-one knows where he. They’ve gone out to search the grounds!”
“Oh dear, I do hope nothing serious has happened to the young man.” He said with feigned sincerity.
“I’ve sent Captain Panaka and his men to help them search, and some of the senators have gone too.”
“Yes, yes, my queen; do whatever you can. Surely, he can’t be far away, I did see him a few minutes ago at the table getting a drink.”
Palpatine watched with satisfied contentment while everyone searched for the young Jedi and it was well into the night cycle when the search was called off. According to the poor boy’s master, he couldn’t sense his missing Padawan at all.
It was all Palpatine could do to keep a wicked smile off his face and concentrate on giving support to the Jedi. His selfless act of promising unlimited resources to them so that they could find their young one was gratefully accepted by the Council and his mask of the concerned Supreme chancellor had won him a few friends amongst the Jedi in the aftermath of Kenobi’s mysterious disappearance.
Palpatine listened while the councillors decided that Skywalker should return to Coruscant with the other Jedi this evening. Anakin was upset and wanted to stay, but Jinn agreed with the council and he tried to explain it to Anakin but the boy ran off crying.
Palpatine saw his chance to get close to the boy and so he followed Anakin and found him sitting on a bench crying.
“Anakin, my boy, whatever is the matter?”
Anakin hadn’t heard him approach and it delighted him that the boy jumped. “Oh, Chancellor Palpatine, I’m sorry," he said wiping the tears away. “I wanted to be alone.”
Palpatine put his arm around poor little Anakin. “Oh no, my boy you shouldn’t be alone at a time like this, I didn’t realise that Obi-Wan’s disappearance would effect you in this way. I’m sure that they will find your friend.”
“He’s – not – my - friend!” the boy blurted out, and then he quickly added. “Well not really, I hardly know him, he was always busy on the ship and we didn’t say much to each other, but now they’re only interested in him! I’m not crying because of him.”
“Oh dear, my boy, then why are you crying?”
“Master Qui-Gon is sending me to the temple, I want to stay here, but he won’t let me. I told him that Padmè is going to give me a medal for my bravery and that I have to stay. But he said a Jedi doesn’t crave recognition and gratification and because of what happened to Obi-Wan I might be in danger too if there’s another sith around.”
“It might be for the best, I certainly wouldn’t want anything to happen to you.”
“I’m not a baby and I destroyed the droid ship on my own. I know how to look after myself. It’s not fair; it’s not my fault that he’s missing, so why can’t I stay for the presentation and the Parade?”
“I see your point Anakin, however, I think that Master Jinn is concerned about his apprentice and right now he needs to focus on looking for him. He doesn’t have time to worry about you at the moment.”
“He told my mother that he would always look after me.” Anakin snapped.
“He probably meant what he said Anakin, but sometimes we have to break our promises. However, I’m sure it will only be for a little while. But perhaps I can convince Master Jinn to allow you to stay with me and then if you're agreeable, I will deliver you to the temple myself tomorrow after the parade.”
‘That would be so great; do you think he will let me?”
“Leave it to me, young Anakin.”
Palpatine used his new power as Supreme Chancellor to convince Jinn to let Skywalker stay with him, with the promise that he would bring Anakin to the temple immediately after the parade.
ooo
Two days later a small black shuttle carrying the Dark Lord touched down in his hidden hanger. Kir was waiting at the bottom of the ramp.
“Kir, has my guest been prepared for my visit?”
“Yes my Lord, he is strapped to the frame and is ready for your arrival.”
“Did he give you any trouble Kir?”
“No my Lord, the sensory deprivation mask kept him completely under control. He has been injected with a sedative, but he will wake up soon.”
“Excellent Kir.”
Sidious felt his repulsion grow just thinking about the Jedi and as he entered the hallway of the lowest level in his expansive complex, he could sense Kenobi’s aura. It was muffled due to the drugs in his system, but he was alive.
Sidious couldn’t help the overwhelming ecstasy that filled him and he began to cackle loudly. He was going to enjoy torturing Kenobi, and then test his new invention on the ignoramus whelp.
Although the thrill of the catch filled him with an intense sense of triumph and self-satisfaction, the next step would be exhilarating. Finally after months of construction, his carbonite freezing chamber was ready. He glanced around the room toward the actual chamber, where in just a few minutes Kenobi would be frozen alive.
At the other end of the room was Kenobi, illuminated in his prone position by a bright light shining on his face. He smiled at how peaceful he looked with his eyes closed in slumber. “Savour the moment Kenobi, for it will be your last!”
A groan filled the air and Sidious positioned himself at Kenobi’s shoulder and placed his cloaked hand on the Jedi’s heart. He could feel the steady beat and wondered how long before it would be beating erratically. Fear will do that to a person, even a Jedi when confronted with his worst nightmare.
He watched silently as eyelids opened and blinked against the glaring light. He knew Kenobi was trying to acquaint himself with his surroundings. The first movement he made sent a jolt of fear into his heart as the Jedi realised he was tied down. Sidious felt the Jedi’s heart pound and then the eyes darted from side to side. Sidious moved an inch or two closer so his hooded head was in view.
A gasp of surprise and an intake of air made Kenobi’s heart pound fiercely.
“Who are you? What do you want? Where am I?” His confused prisoner asked.
Sidious cackled and let the contempt he felt for Kenobi show in his voice. “It speaks! And it wants to ask questions!”
He sensed a shiver run through the body under his hand as Kenobi moved his head trying to see under the hood.
“Keep still boy - don’t give me a reason to ‘kill’ you just yet!”
“Then what does it matter if I move or not, you’re going to kill me anyway?” Kenobi answered and Sidious smiled, even though Kenobi couldn’t see it.
“I may change my mind, you never know! If you tell me what I want to know, I might grant you life.” He said sarcastically.
“I wont tell you anything, so don’t do me any favours.” Kenobi growled back.
"Yes-ss, I sense that about you and I can feel your resolve building under my hand.” He pushed down on Kenobi’s chest and felt Kenobi tense up. “Ah! But I can also sense your fear; your heart reveals your emotions to me.”
“Now, I do believe you asked me some questions and I’m feeling rather generous at the moment, so I’ll grant you an answer,” he said.
“Who am I? … That question is one that your Jedi Order has been avoiding for millennia. I am Darth Sidious - Sith Lord and your peers and the Jedi council insisted that I was extinct. However, through vigilance and stealth – I have taken the first steps in my quest to eradicate the entire Jedi order… Ah! That got your attention didn’t it?”
He could sense the Jedi’s agitation and his feeble attempt to harness the Force. “You cannot touch the Force here boy! You are wasting your time. Now where was I, oh yes your next question.
‘What do I want?” he chuckled.
“I want to kill every living Jedi and wipe them from the face of the universe. Naboo was just the beginning. Did you know that I orchestrated that whole invasion? I even planned to kill Queen Amidala, but you hindered my plans. Nevertheless, now I have other plans for her.
Unfortunately, for you – as you killed my apprentice Darth Maul and gained your few minutes of glory on Naboo, it only incited my resolve to find a more powerful apprentice and fortunately, for me, that boy Anakin is just what I’m looking for. Your Master has virtually delivered my next apprentice right into my hands.”
“No… Anakin is just a boy; my Master will not let you near him. He will kill you just like I killed your apprentice.”
“You underestimate me, young Jedi. Your Master or even Master Yoda cannot prevent me from taking what I want from your precious temple.”
He heard the snort of disbelief come from Kenobi. “You’re delusional; if you think the Jedi will let a sith just walk into the temple and take Anakin!”
“Perhaps not, but now answer a question for me young Jedi, why were you following Chancellor Palpatine?”
He felt Kenobi’s heart rate rise again, but the Jedi didn’t elaborate.
“Come now, there must have been a reason for you to leave the celebration and follow him?”
Still the Jedi held his tongue.
“Let me speculate then, you don’t trust Palpatine? You wanted to speak to Yoda, or your Master about him, didn’t you? Do you think he is unworthy of the position of Supreme Chancellor? Or do you suspect that he’s not who he appears to be? Perhaps you've had a vision of him, or maybe a vision of the future?”
When Sidious asked that last question, Kenobi’s body went ridged and his face was sweating. Dooku was right, Kenobi could see into the future and he’d had visions that were distressing him.
“You – have - had visions. I can sense it and they torment you, don’t they. Does Palpatine haunt your dreams, do I haunt them. Is that why you followed him into the garden, you had to find out if you were right about him.” He was squeezing Kenobi’s throat now trying to pry the information out of him.
“Did you tell anyone about your visions, tell me?”
“I will tell you nothing!” The Jedi croaked out.
“I sense your anguish, you did tell them, but they didn’t believe you and that’s why you followed Palpatine. You were looking for proof. I’ve heard what your Yoda says about the dark side – that it is hard to see. Yes! They are fools. You want proof young Jedi? I can give you proof! I will show you why the Jedi will be destroyed and why they will let it happen.”
He waved his hand and the lights came on, Kenobi watched him intently as he threw off his robe to reveal his alias as Palpatine. He felt the magnificent power of the dark side fill him. The look of horror in Kenobi’s eyes, made him laugh and he signalled for Kir to inject the Jedi and put him to sleep.
Everything was ready as they wheeled Kenobi into the chamber, Sidious had attached the Jedi’s sabre to his belt and everything that belonged to Kenobi would be frozen with him.
It was all over in a few minutes and Kir checked the instruments and confirmed that the process was successful and although the Jedi was frozen, in reality he was still alive.
“Well done Kir, now that I have proof that the chamber works, you can hire a bounty hunter to take this pathetic Jedi’s body to the Lava pits of Mustafar. I - want - him - dead.”
“Yes my Lord it will be done.”

Mace:"Sometimes a Jedi's most important duty is to stand and wait.
I presume you've mentioned that to Anakin on occasion?"

I KNEW this was coming - but to actually read it! <shivers>
So, do we skip ahead in time or not? That's my next question.
