I don't know that that image is particularly TOS friendly.
I hope you can see this, because he's doing it as hard as he can.

I belive in extraterrestrials becouse of two true storys my Nana and Pa told me that happened to them.
First my Pa: He said he was asleep one night and he woke up flotting in mid-air in the middle of the dinning room. All of a sudden he falls down and slams on the floor. He said he was flotting about three to four feet in the air.
Now my Nana: She said she was washing dishes or cooking or something like that and she looked out the kitchen window and saw a tall figure standing in the yard. She raised her arm in the air and the figure did the same(like looking at a window). She did it a little while longer and look away to tell my Pa or something and when she looked back again it was gone.
That is why I believe they exist.

Here's what I think. I believe aliens exist, but I don't know why they haven't contacted us yet. Maybe aliens came once, but they were blown out of the sky and decided we were savages and have marked our planet savage.
Maybe they just haven't found our planet yet, and don't know we exist.
Or maybe there was a big galactic civil war, and the galaxy is suffering from the post war effects. who knows.

One thing to consider: if highly advanced civilizations did exist in our galaxy, it's entirely possible, not to mention probable, that we may have detected waste energy from their activities at this point, assuming they are not eclipsed on the other side of the galactic plane.
So far, we have not. That certainly does not mean that they aren't there, especially given the amount of time it takes for light to travel, but it certainly does lower the odds somewhat.
Peace,
V-03
If such civilizations were advanced to a point where they understood their own biochemestry, how they are effected by and effect their own environment and how important it is for their own survival and the survival of all creatures which live with them, how to build star-ships and travel across the galaxy, and how to keep their own civilization from destroying itself as its technology evolves, then it is more likely than not that they have also developed more dependable methods of recycling or using their own "waste energies" to continue to fuel themselves, much like other creatures of the "food chain" in biology feed off other creature's wastes, such as an ant which consumes the aphid's sugar-like poop.
Truthfully, all we need as a basic layout for our own evolution and continued existence is right here on earth -- if we would care to study such "lower life-forms" and how they interact with each other. Thus, how can you assume that we are not "important enough" for study by a "higher life-form," expecially if they understand that the study of biology and biochemestry is a sure blue-print to further their own knowledge?
Study for the sake of knowledge would be the driving point. Because knowledge is power and the very means in which we even have the technology we do today.

One thing I find very interesting about contact with extraterrestrial civilizations is the potential for very negative effects.
For example, look at the differences in morals and culture just on our own planet. It's likely that extraterrestrials would have not only radically different physiology from ourselves, but entirely different morals and customs. I think it's likely we would find these people completely intolerable. That is, if we could communicate with them at all, which isn't guaranteed.

Excellent point. That makes me think, oddly enough, of the scene in Transformers were Megatron is curious to know why Optimus Prime fights for humanity. To paraphrase Megatron, humanity is base and savage.
It was funny how out of such an incredible film that was the part I most freshly remember. It made me wonder the very thing you said. What would another alien race think of us? It is actually a viable means of re-evaluation.
There is the possibillity that extraterrestrial morality exceeds or is more enlightened than ours. There also is the possibillity that, even with advanced technology, this race would be proponents of Nietzschean will to power.
Maybe they believe might makes right? Or the ends justify the means?
Maybe they would be able to run circles around our greatest social theorists in a debate about this matter.
Or maybe they would just as soon vaporize our intelligentsia with their phasers.

Nonsense. In this, we should defer to the venerated Professor Donald Kessler:
Donald Kessler posted: They're very advanced technologically. Which suggests, rightfully so, that they're peaceful. An advanced civilization is, by definition, not barbaric.
And we all know how that turned out.
Just keep a recording of Slim Whitman on hand. It could be our only hope!

I think of it like this. As we sit here and think well space travel between galaxy's.. impossible... Visited by ET... impossible... at one time or another in our development everything we have achieved to date was thought of as impossible by the brightest minds of the time... traveling around the world... flight.. going past the speed of sound... reaching the moon... that is just in the last 2000 years... yet in terms of the age of our galaxy this 2000 years is like a second of time... so just what is impossible... and if humans still exist in another 2000 years who knows what Earth will be like or humans for that matter.
