EMERGENCY contraceptives are called that because they are for an emergency, If someone knows that is an option they should go ahead and take the measures to get it BEFORE an emergency happens.
This is a theme we see time and time again.
build the ark before the storm.
Evacuate the city before the levees breach.
lock up your bicycle before someone tries to steal it.
get the smallpox vaccine before, the bio-terror attack.
etc.
shop around, call around get a plan together before the emergency.

Yes, and ideally a knife-juggler would stock up on antiseptics and bandages BEFORE he accidentally drops a knife on his wrist. That doesn't mean I can to refuse to sell him those things on the basis that it conflicts with my belief in natural selection.

I don't think you should be telling a pharmacist what his/her primary concern is.

I'm more than happy to tell a fellow healthcare professional what the primary concern of professional healthcare is. Would you disagree that the patient is paramount ? If so, then please describe what you view as the primary concern.

I think you missed my point, EMERGENCY contraceptives are called that because they are for an emergency, If someone knows that is an option they should go ahead and take the measures to get it BEFORE an emergency happens.

No, I totally see your point, but you still are missing mine. I completely agree that if you have a back-up stock of emergency contraception at home then if something unexpected happened (say split condom etc) then you'd be prepared. In this case the issue surrounding being unable to fill a prescription for emergency contraception becomes a non-issue because it wouldn't actually be an emergency when you went to get it.

However, my issue remains that it still isn't the business of the healthcare professional to refuse to fill the patient any correct prescription they have. It goes completely against the point of healthcare.

I agree that a professional's primary concern is the Pateint, however the bible thumpers are acting on what they believe is best for the patient.

Thank you for the agreement on the primary concern of healthcare.

I completely disagree that the "bible thumpers" (I wouldn't personally use that term) believe that are acting in the best interests of the patient - they are doing nothing more than preaching. In biological terms you cannot die from *not* being pregnant, but you most certain *can* die from being pregnant, or giving birth.

(I appreciate the counter-arguement about the primary concern of the baby (which may, or may not exist, can't tell that early if pregnancy has occured) - but of course biologically speaking no baby exists.)

As you may, or may not be aware I totally disagree with the use of analogies to make a point. However, I felt this one was worth qft.

Your hatred of analogies makes your support of mine all the more special, like a luddite mathematician celebrating the computer that discovers the last digit of pi.
