Hmm. An unpopular republican president in the middle of an unpopular civil war with his closest advisors quickly leaving the White House over a scandel at the highest level of government...does this mean my time machine is working?

I'll make one prediction regarding Gonzales.

There will be no confirmation hearings for his replacement. Any hearings would be a massive circus, from which Bush has nothing to gain, and if he simply makes a recess appointment, it will last until a few days before his term ends.

Right as usual, Kimball.

The casualties of the liberal-engineered pogrom against the Bush administration keep mounting:

Tenet
Rumsfeld
Bolton
Rove
Gonzales
Libby
Francis Harvey
Peter Pace
Jim Nicholson
Michael Brown
Harriet Miers
etc.

The consequences aren't to Bush they're the the Republican's in the Senate.

There are 20 something Republican senators facing reelection in 2008, AG Gonzales has had to walk an increasingly narrow line to try and escape perjury but it is apparent he's failing.

Gentlemens bet KW? Gonzales out before years end?

Nailed it!

Also, I don't think President Bush is going to make a recess appointment on this one.

Congratulations, Farraday! applause

Well, I have to join the chorus saying "Good riddance." Even the most hard-core Republican couldn't find any reason to defend this guy.

I'm not sure about Bush being the new Nixon, though. Warren Harding, maybe. I still think Cheney is by far the more corrupt and 'evil' of the two (if evil is the word for it) and that he's likely behind most of the administration's scandals.

For a look back, here is the thread on the issue that eventually caused Gonzales to resign.

Mr44 and I sure got into a big spat in the first few pages.

Time will tell. I don't think the full extent of all possible wrongdoing will become quite clear until after Dubya is out of the White House. If nothing else, because to truly punish any wrong doing, convictions will have to come after 1/9/09.

On the local radio some were suggesting Orrin Hatch, former chairman of the Judiciary Committee would sail through the confirmation hearings and might take the job out of a sense of personal duty even if he didn't want it. Actually that would be good news for me because then maybe I could try and work for whoever replaces him. I thought about trying to intern for Hatch but then I remembered I didn't vote for him in the past election.

The New York Times is running a fascinating preview of Jack L. Goldsmith's upcoming book, "The Terror Presidency". As one of the ultimate insiders during the early part of the Bush presidency, his insider's view will almost certainly be fascinating.

Sid Blumenthal is reporting that Bush ignored a 2002 CIA briefing which concluded (correctly) that Iraq had no WMDs.

If I had to absolutely pick, Cheney will be the one who does the jail time if anyone does. I believe he's done more to negatively impact his own country then even Bin Laden. Bush is just the front man.
