It really can't be put into simpler terms. If they're choosing to overlook the importance of voting and do not vote, then they probably shouldn't vote anyway.
Also, one point that I'd like to make is that, as the old saying goes, "it's a free country". As an American citizen, it should be my right and freedom to make the decision not to vote. I strongly discourage it, and would never unintentionally not vote, but I don't think that the government has the right to legally force us to vote. And, frankly, I like it that way.

okay... wait for it...
I like how you've distorted it into a racial issue.
Care to elucidate your comments so that they have any other meaning? I'm not seeing it.

You expect me to respond in a reasoned fashion to hypocritical ad hominem tangential to the issue at hand? No thanks. I've already conveyed my feelings on your defensive reaction. I see no need to continue this derail.

My reasoning was very sound.
You're missing the forest for the trees.
I was address Confederate's point that all states should get equal representation for the Chief Executive of the US.
I was pointing out that even on the state level, this can lead to problems where areas of lower population strong-arm areas of higher (which have different problems) on certain types of issues.
This will only be magnified if brought to the national level.
I'm also a little disturbed by the idea that one should lose the right to vote if they don't exercise it.
Should we treat reproduction the same way? Use it or lose it?
Peace,

WRONG!,
I see both the forest and the trees.
I do not favor changing the system to 1 vote per state, so in that we are in agreement.*edit- Perhaps using an example of goverment required price ceilings etc. which are factual in causing problems, would be a better example-*end edit
I was just picking out your point about passing laws to treat a symptom, pretending to cure the disease. we could always debate that in the correct thread, my primary point.
I NEVER said that people would LOSE thier right to vote, only that we should not REQUIRE them to cast a vote, and stated my reasoning why.
why don't you read what is posted?

Ad Hominem? Really? Care to point that one out as well?
This discussion is fully on topic. Why don't you give it a try or concede the point?

Sweetpea, I read what you posted, I just interpreted it differently than you intended.
As far as being off topic goes, I'm not, I was simply making a specific example.
I'm done debating this small point with you in public, feel free to PM me if you want to continue.
Peace,

Accusing me of employing "red herrings" and then "distorting the issue into a racial one" seems a little hypocritical to me.
But if you want to get pimply-faced white kids scared stiff of "Political Correctness" on your side, it's certainly a good strategy.
EDIT: Oh, now I see the point you wanted me to answer. I thought it was rhetorical at the time.
No, I don't believe there is a manifest conspiracy against non-whites. Racist structures in society are the sum total of past and present, intentional and unintentional injustices, majorities, and even the actions of individuals. There need be no "conspiracy" involved. However, upon examining where structural forces come from, you can't characterize them as random either. And even if they were, well, that's still no excuse for not trying to fix things.

The main way to reform the U.S. is from the ground up, starting with our local and county officials.
Then we can move onto state legislatures and the calling of a constitutional convention.
