In the world and yet no use of wind power. Lets face it most of our energy needs could be supplemented with wind power off the coasts of our shores.
I mean if wind farms survive in the North sea its possible they could survive in hurricane alley.

I suggest that you go away and do some research into the efficiency (or lack of) of wind power. After that you might be able to start a Senate worthy thread.

Yeah, what a lot of people don't realise about wind power is that it takes a lot of energy before you can start generating energy, and it also takes energy to convert the wind power into energy. Not very efficiant at all.
A much better source of "green" energy, IMO, is solar power. One day, I reakon most house's in the world will have solar panels built into their roof's. I think they will become as common as slate or TV ariels.

G-F, what kind of technology exists to overcome the peaks and valleys that exist with solar power? Do you envision the "common house" solar panel as a supplement to current power delivery, as it is now, or as an eventual replacement?

Aren't the coming up with new breakthroughs in solar panels using nanotechnology or something? If this proves feasible perhaps we may have a reliable source of energy?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hydro is NOT considered a green power source, correct?

I'd say that windpower is gaining in the European Union. I had troubles finding any links in English, but there are quite a few windparks being built around Sweden and a quick look at wikipedia shows that on average 20% of the Danish power comes from wind power, and Germany produces even more if you look at numbers in MW.

We also have large amounts of empty land as well...
Why is it so windy in Nebraska? Because Kansas sucks and South Dakota blows.
I'll get back to you with cost/output info on windfarms. As far as I know, they're not bad in those terms. I know of a few people who have invested in small turbines to power a sustainable house, and I'd guess that eventually they'd make a profit on a larger-scale establishment.

I just hope I'm around to see the day the New Republic catches up with you. Whether they give you a medal or just shoot you--either way, it'll be a terrific show.

Well I'm not an expert on alternative energy or anything, but I think the technology will rapidly advance over the next decade. From my perspective, out of wind, wave and solar energy, solar is by far the most energy efficiant.

actually the return on megawatt power is better with wind not as good as coal but more efficient. Solar is good but has lots of downsides.
Solar energy is more useful in a smaller capacity. It can run a single home but a wind park could run a large city with no effects.
