George Bush wants Americans to consume with their stimulus checks. Even if using your stimulus check to pay off your credit card debt or invest money for your child's college eduction or pay down student loans or make an extra payment on your house might be the smart thing to do for you personally, the stimulus check asks not what you can do for yourself, but what you can do to increase the trade deficit.

Or people don't have to get so worked up about things like this and strike a middle ground. If someone gets back $600, there's nothing wrong with treating themselves to a $200 prize, and then using the rest to pay off a bill, or whatever. Yeah, using the $600 as a down payment for a $4000 plasma TV that one can't afford anyway is silly, but so is turning this into some sort of personal crusade. "George Bush wants me to put this back into the economy, but to show him, I'm going to burn it in may backyard instead..." Just be reasonable, and everything will be fine.

How'd J-Rod get his check already?? I only got my amount notice in the mail just today. (I'm supposed to get my money later this month.)
Mine's probably going right back to my credit card bills. I'm flying out of town over Memorial Day weekend, and the flight's gonna eat a big chunk of my check. So with oil/petrol prices affecting airfares, I guess you could say I'm going to end up supporting the oil industry anyway.

The schedule is based on the last digits of your SS#. Then people with direct deposit go first, those who are getting a paper check after...
