Absolutely not. I know it's a lucrative franchise, etc. etc. but Star Wars is migrating into televsion. With the Clone Wars coming soon and the Live Action Series a couple of years away, George is focusing his efforts toward TV. The saga works well as a 6 part series. George has said that the Skywalkers are done and that there will be no more movies. The focus has shifted to television and I believe that's where it will remain.

I think it's to hard to say at this point.
All I know is that I have a 5 year old son who is obsessed with Starwars and loves all 6 movies. So does his entire class at school. I dont see the fascination or excitement for the entire series dying down for a long time. I think his generation is going to be the determining factor. When GL's kids have complete control over everything they may put something amazing togethor as a tribute to their fathers legacy.
He did say 9 films in several interviews in 1978 during all the hoopla over episode 4. I disagree with those quoting starlog. There was a story on him in the late 1980's on one of the prime time television news magazines about his life and Lucasfilm and all the special effects his company has worked on. I think it was a premotional prelude to Indy 3. After the end Diane Sawyer said that he stated that eventually the prequells eventually will be made.
I cant see him having a plot for 7,8 or 9. He pretty much gave all that away to the novelists who have written endless post ROTJ novels.
I think he painted himself in a corner with the episode titles. Theres still a story to be told. "The opression of the Sith will never return!". Why is Yoda such an expert on the Sith and the Dark Side. You get the impression the rest of the Jedi council is clueless and Yoda has first hand experience with the Sith.

Yet the Clone War animated show is being seriously considered for theatrical release, according to Lucasfilm reps. Maybe there won't be a "Episodes VII, VIII, IX" anytime soon, but who said a Star Wars film had to be a VII, VIII, IX?

True. No one said that the Star Wars films would HAVE to be 7,8, and 9. I highly doubt that those episodes will be made, but would not count out the fact that other movies could be made. GL has said the Skywalkers are done and I hope it remains that way. I just think that the focus has shifted to television/video games.

I love it how a week ago people are like, "There will be no more movies." Well, yeah there will be. That's now official. As far as Episodes 7, 8, and 9? I wouldn't rule them out, but I mean I wouldn't count on anything that you will ultimately be disappointed if it doesn't happen. I mean, let's put it this way, if I were George Lucas and I was going to make 7-9 eventually, I wouldn't tell anyone and I wouldn't have told anyone before, either. Why? Because of course if you said back in 1997 that there will be 6 more Star Wars movies, not only do you hold yourself to that "promise" and create a lot more stress (when you don't even know for sure if this experience will be rewarding or fun for you) but you also make people feel like there are plenty more movies, so no need to watch the next one. Now, that being said, if there are going to be 7-9 they should be announced relatively soon or not ever at all because that window is kind of fading by this point.
I think if Star Wars: The Clone Wars, not live-action of course but CG, does very well in theaters, let's just say even $180 million or above, there will be lots more animated Star Wars movies because it just makes sense. Maybe even as soon as next summer, 2009. Why not? If you can take something you were making for TV with a budget of probably, what, maybe $1 million per 30-minute episode (22 minutes of footage, I would assume), and then just make a 100 minute movie for $5 million, promote it, etc. and turn a MASSIVE profit, why wouldn't you?!?
I'm stoked about the idea of another Star Wars movie in theaters, really I thought that would never happen. I would have given it a 20% chance.

Man one can only hope. It seems impossible but still. At least we'll probably have more CGI films if a 7, 8, 9 tril is never made.

Or ret, you could have a 7,8,9 CG animated series of films.
I would much prefer live-action, but it's more plausible that it'd be animation.

Anything numbered as part of the overall saga should be live-action.
(That is, aside for all the inevitable CGI... )

Correct! If more live action movies are made, they will be numbered. George Lucas recently stated that he did the animated series - and now the animated movie - because he had more Star Wars stories to tell.
I believe he eventually will come back to live action movies in addition to the live action TV show. But I would expect a big jump into the future from the end of Jedi - maybe bigger than the twenty year timeline jump from Last Crusade to the new Indy movie.
Plus, George Lucas seems to be fascinated with the concept of older heroes rising to the occasion one more time. The aged original cast would be perfect along with a new generation facing new threats.

Tell me if I'm wrong on this. But wasn't Episode 1 The Phantom Menace the start of the downfall of the old republic, when Qui-Gon found Anakin? If so, I would love to see the time frame when the Republic and the Jedi order where at their pinnacle, when Yoda was ONLY 100-200 years old. Maybe the Sith War (after all it is Star "Wars").
What's also cool is that George waited a long time between movies, but this time, CW CGI is coming ONLY after 3 years since the ROTS movie showed. Plus with the new LAS coming next year, more and more material is going to be added to the OVERALL saga.
I'm glad George is ending the Skywalker story line. It's been built up enough while still retaining some mystery of the Skywalker clan.
New characters, plots, locations and action is what I am looking for. My only concern is that they keep the 1930s serials style to all of it.
