So It Begins

Summary: During The War of the Ring, a young Jedi Prince and a not-so-young Warrior King form a special bond.

Obi-Wan Kenobi looked around the campsite, it was dark, too dark for anyone to truly see, except if they had a fire or a glow stick.

The fire burned brightly; around that fire the Jedi Apprentice could see the dwarf Gimli sharpening his axe blade and the elf Legolas waxing his bowstring, both were talking to each other.

His Master and Kinsman Qui-Gon Jinn was talking to the wizard Gandalf, but the member of this odd band that intrigued the twenty-one-year old Kertiosian Prince was not the hobbit Frodo (often called ?The Ringbearer?), nor his friend Samwise (also called Sam), nor Frodo?s cousin Meriadoc (called Merry by everyone), not even Merry?s friend Peregrin (called Pippin by his friends) gave Obi-Wan a true sense of urgency to talk to tonight. The hobbits were interesting and he would talk to them, but the man at the far edge of the fire smoking the pipe, was the one he wanted to talk to tonight.

Some said his name was Strider, some said The Dunedan, others called him Longshanks, he heard the elf call him Estel and the man said ?Only she can call me that?, and so many other names that this man was called that Obi-Wan wondered what his true name was.

Summoning all his courage he went to were the man was and sat down beside him.

?May I?? the Jedi asked.

?Alright by me.? said the man.

Obi-Wan pulled his cloak around himself tighter.
?Sure is cold tonight.?

?Hmm.? Was all the man said.

//Intriguing fellow, but not much of a conversationalist. // Obi-Wan thought.

//Well I just have to get the ball rolling, won?t I. //

He held out his hand to be shaken.
?I?m Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Apprentice to Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.?

The man shook his hand.
?I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn and Gilraen. Pleased to meet you Apprentice Kenobi or would you prefer to be called Obi-Wan.?

?It doesn?t matter.? The Jedi said.

Aragorn smiled and returned to his smoking.

?May I try that?? Obi-Wan asked.

Aragorn smiled again.
?Sure, but watch out it?s strong.?

He handed the younger man the pipe and watched him take a few puffs.

Obi-Wan had taken too deep of a drag, because the next moment he was coughing uncontrollably.

So uncontrollably that it was heard by everyone in the whole camp and by someone in particular, Qui-Gon Jinn.

?Obi-Wan, what in the name of the Force are you doing?? the Jedi Master yelled.

?Nothing, Master!? Obi-Wan yelled between coughs and Aragorn whacking him on the back.

?I?m coming over NOW, Obi-Wan!?

?Please Master don?t!?

When Qui-Gon and Gandalf got there they saw the duo smiling and acting like nothing was wrong.

But the sharp-eyed Jedi Master saw the pipe.

?Hmm what?s this?? he said as he held the pipe.

Aragorn looked at the Jedi.
?It?s mine, Master Jedi. I let Obi-Wan take a few puffs, but he must have took too deep a drag. I?m truly sorry, it won?t happen again.?

Qui-Gon smiled and nodded at the man speaking at him.
?I know of your honesty, Ranger and I thank you.?

?Thank you, friend.? Obi-wan smiled.

?It is true, Gandalf did send for Jedi as noble as they are brave.?
Aragorn said as he leaned back.

Obi-Wan was puzzled.
?What do you mean??

?I thought I heard the names of Kenobi and Jinn before. The Kenobis rule Kertios and the Jinn are Lords of the land. You and I have the same background, my friend.?

Obi-Wan was still puzzled.
?Again what do you mean??

Aragorn again took a drag on his pipe.
?You are The Second-Born Son of the King and Queen of Kertios. I am the Heir to Kings of the West and we both like to keep our true identities quiet, while opting for more humble identities. Is that not true, young Prince??

?Yes it is young King.?
Obi-Wan laughed.

Now it was Aragorn?s turn to laugh.
?I am not young, good Prince Kenobi.?

Wonderful story. I have not watch all the Lord of the Rings movies as of yet. But these stories are encouring me to go and rent them.

I also like the twist of having Obi-wan a prince and a Jedi.
