I don't think the concern is whether or not anyone will make them, but rather whether or not Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes will still be attached by the time the ball gets rolling, or if the thing will get caught up in a big kerfuffle that results in a lesser film.

As long as the resulting deal to save the franchise produces a movie that is better then Quantum of Solace I'm happy to wait.

Or maybe we can get back to some fun films instead of the "darker grittier" stories. I was so bored by Casino Royal, and have refused to watch QoS.

I didn't like Bond films until Casino Royale. Before I saw a couple of the early ones, I used to think the first Austin Powers was exaggerating.

My barber once opined of Casino Royale that it was quite entertaining, excepting the flaw that there were no cool gadgets. They could have at least fit in a car that turns into a boat or submarine, he noted.

True. Although again going by Narnia as an example, they kept the cast and attached keys when they moved. And the film is coming out on schedule, 2 years after the last one. This is a really ideal thing that hardly ever happens. But it is possible. I am definitely worried, though. It would have been much better had Bond 23 been finished *before* MGM went belly-up. Then we'd only be in pre-pre production for 24 and a switch would be easier.

This is obviously a really bad sign for MGM. It does take a lot of money to make these films, but they're also huge tentpoles. You'd think they'd want to invest in that. But they must be hurting a ton.

And yes, the thing that worries me about this the most is what this means for The Hobbit. I really, really want to see that get into production soon.

I just wanted an excuse to show Daniel Craig in a Disney kids' movie.

A similar thing happened after 1989's Licence To Kill. A lawsuit held up production of another James Bond movie until GoldenEye was released in 1995.

The only reason I care about the film is because God is the cinematographer.

I guess he finally got to do a real pool of light.

Sam Mendes is directing. Javier Bardem starring opposite Daniel Craig. I'm optimistic.

I think the Brocolli daughter is more to blame, for changing the successful three decade Bond format to something more like the Bourne franchise.

The hotel blowing up made me feel slightly more comfortable with Quantum of Solace, as an exploding base is a staple of Classic Bond, and they made an attempt to recreate S.P.E.C.T.R.E. with this Q.U.A.N.T.U.M.

I think Daniel Craig makes a credible James Bond.

Just please, leave Bourne to Bourne, and give us back the proper 007 template.

I don't mind the divergent tone of the Craig movies. It's just another interpretation of 007, as different as Moore's was from Connery's. And Casino Royale was simply a damn good film.

And I don't know if the legal nightmare concerning the use of SPECTRE and Blofeld was ever cleared up, but Quantum is an apt substitute. Would've loved to see a reimagined Number One, though. :p

    Yeah, it was.

The judge decided that the guy who originally came up with the S.P.E.C.T.R.E., owns that concept, and the plot to Thunderball.

He is only allowed the rights to remake Thunderball, which is what the Sean Connery one, Never Say Never Again was, in that year when two Bond movies came out, one official MGM, and that one - same general plot, nuclear weapons being stolen, stored underwater, and used to hold the world to ransom.
