100 Things I love about Phantom Menace

I got this idea from the guy who made the "best of" lists in the original trilogy forum. Most people hate Phantom Menace, but not me, I LOVE it. So, here goes:

1. The sound of the Republic Ship as it zoomes past us.
2. The captains voice, she's kinda hot.
3. The way the droids stop and look at the ship as it docks.
4. TC-14 is cool, sweet voice.
5. The Emperor's music as his hologram appears.
6. "SHIELDS!"
7. Cutting through the door.
8. The way Qui Gon retrieves his blade quickly and faces the droidekas.
9. The force-run
10. "The negotiations were short"
11. The sound of the Neimodians monitor activating.
12. The music as the droids begin their invasion.
13. The STAP zooming past us.
14. Palpatine's breaking up hologram in the Queen's chambers.
15. The droid infantry carriers breaking down the forest.
16. Qui Gon taking out that STAP. I just think STAP's are way cool and underused. Should have seen them on Geonosis.
17. "Whats this?"
18. "A local"
19. The music while swimming to the city.
20. Boss Nass and his spit.
21. The first big fish.
22. The Bigger fish.
23. The electric eel thing.
24. Qui Gon force pushing the droids on Naboo.
25. One droid goes "DOH!"
26. "We are brave"
27. "I'll handle this"
28. Qui Gon chops a droid, and you can see where the metal is super-heated.
29. The sound of the Queen's ship blasting out of the hangar.
30. The image of the red lazers blasting toward the Queen's ship.
31. All the R2 units in the bay.
32. The units getting blasted.
33. Showing that R2 D2 is always handy to have around.
34. "The Hutt's are gangsters"
35. Watto's shop.
36. Darth Maul's hologram entrance.
37. Darth Maul's ship approaching.
38. The sound of the sith probe droids.
39. Darth Maul's face, as if to say, "Go get em' boys!"
40. Qui Gon's chat with Annie.
41. Midichlorian count.
42. Starting up the pod for the first time.
43. Seeing little Greedo.
44. The music as the pod's line up.
45. The sound of the engines reving.
46. Ben's pod exploding.
47. Jabba and Company.
48. That one racers expression and sound as he crashes in the cave.
49. Sebulba flashing that guy with his vents.
50. Anakin punching it out of the canyon.
51. Sebulba's pod wiping out.
52. Qui Gon dealing with Watto as he tries to get out of his deal.
53. "Another stray lifeform."
54. "Now be brave, and dont look back."
55. Qui Gon cutting that probe droid in half.
56. That ship in the background as they run away.
57. Maul trying to run down the kid.
58. Maul's dismount and draw.
59. Maul's stance as they get away, he looks upset but determined.
60. "Meet Obi Wan Kenobi"
61. Coruscant in all its glory.
62. Senator Palpatine, finally, in the flesh. I love the way we see him on the landing pad.
63. General Zod greeting them, his voice is awesome.
64. Amidala's face as the Neimodian Senators interrupt her. No wonder no one puts any faith in the senate anymore.
65. "I WILL be Chancellor."
66. "We are sure her heart goes with you."
67. Finally seeing the Jedi Council, those pompous, arrogant, asses.
68. "No, he will not be trained."
69. Seeing how Qui Gon is respected by the council, but quietly despised for being so independent of them.
70. Anakin's sneer at Mace Windu.
71. Amidala's speech to Palpatine as she departs to Naboo.
72. "Jar Jar Binks, I need your help."
73. Coruscant in the evening. Not quite as cool as in Clones, but still great.
74. The ancient statues in the Gungan hideout. Very cool.
75. Qui Gon's face as Padme reveals herself to Boss Nass. Yeah, he knew all along. He's so cool.
76. The flash speeders.
77. The AAT, should have seen those on Geonosis also, maybe taking on some Republic walkers.
78. The music as the Gungans march.
79. "OPEN FIRE!"
80. The faint alarm in the background as the infantry carrier opens.
81. "Steady... Steady"
82. The way that Naboo speeder takes out that AAT, nice little ambush.
83. That one Naboo ship getting shot down as it leaves the hangar.
84. Anakin blasting the droidekas.

Well, okay, to each his own. You can see her as "Trudi" in the movie "Pulp Fiction" if you like her.

I agree, cool shots.

43. Seeing little Greedo.
That wasn't Greedo, that was Wald. (Greedo was in a scene that got cut, though.)

92. The droid ship that collides with the Control Ship, nice. Reminds me of ROTJ.
Never thought of that before. Neat.

I just really like TPM. Sorry.
This is a SW forum, no need to apologize for liking an SW film. That's like going to a formal dance and apologizing for wearing a nice suit. It's the norm.

Hehe, sounds like you really like Qui-Gon too. I could make a list like that, but I could shorten about half of it to 'Obi-Wan' The rest would be things like the Duel of the Fates Music, Qui-Gon's rebelious side, Qui-Gon pestering Padme with comments like 'The Queen trusts my judgement, so should you', Ray Park's mad fighting skills, etc. There are quite a few things, actually.

But I think my favourite kind of thematic thing is how Obi-Wan is kind of pushed aside for Anakin. It seems like that might create some feeling on his part that he has to prove he's a good Jedi, in training Anakin or whatnot. Or maybe it's just me.

Aaaaand...I'm glad someone finally mentioned the poor captain of the Radiant. I really like her...she's got a nice voice, a great death ( )and short hair! As I always say, the galaxy needs more women with short hair.

 

You see, I love threads like this. There are so many negarive TPM threads out there. I am among those who LOVE this movie to bits. If its all right with everyone, I just may eventually do my own list. Nice list, rogue-padawan.

I like those looks too. Another small bit I like from that end scene is when Jar Jar slaps Tarpals on shoulder (when Boss Nass lifts that crystal ball thing).

I love Obi-Wan's open disdain for Jar-Jar (I don't HATE Jar-Jar, I just find it funny ). When they find us, they'll crush us, grind us up into little pieces, then BLAST us into oblivion!

I LOVE that the first main character line is I have a bad feeling about this. My props to Ewan. I could never start out a scene with that line and keep a straight face

I also like Threepio saying I'm not sure this floor is entirely stable. Nice OT throwbacks

43. Seeing little Greedo.


Technically, we don't see Greedo in TPM, just in a deleted scene, does that count?

 

100 things! Here I go. In no real order:

1. All the hype. Yup, I know most people hate hype, but I'll never forget walking into a store and seeing all the mechandise and having people talking excitedly in the theatre. So...um...so there.
2. The title and opening crawl. Is there anyone who doesn't love that?
3. Qui-Gon. First fictional crush. Laugh and I'll kill you.
4. Obi. And his hair.
5. The costumes. I haven't met anybody who doesn't like the costumes.
6. Theed. Wouldn't you just love to live there?
7. Or Otah Gunga. I'd like to live there too.
8. Or Coruscant. I love the SW locations.
9. Sabe. I just think she's cool.
10. Darth Maul appearing on the hologram. Seriously seriously cool.
11. R2 saving everyone.
12. The droid's first meeting
13. The tone poems. Am I allowed to mention those, since they're not the actual movie? Oh well. I like Amidala's one the best.
14. Jar Jar. I think he's funny. Shaddup.
15. Actually, I like the Gungans in general. Tarpals especially. (Happy Oakesteve?)
16. Naboo Starfighters. (that is what they're called, right?) My favourite ships of the saga, I think.
17. Anakin glaring at Mace in the Council room.
18. "You'll just have to tolerate his opinion. Fighting won't change it." Wise words.
19. Tatooine. I think it's quite pretty (well, not exactly, but I can't find the right word) at night.
20. When they all go to the sacred place, there's some little Gungans there. Aww...
21. Sebulba. He's a complete jerk but he's very funny. Well, that's not the right word but I wish we'd seen more of him.
22. Ditto for Watto.
23. Qui-Gon cutting through the blast doors (anyone who doesn't like that?)
24. When Maul gets onto his speeder on Tatooine and rides off, he goes over a cliff and flings his arms up like he's on a roller-coaster. It cracked me up.
25. Anakin speaking Huttese. Everyone's always going on about Jake's acting, but how many of them could speak it and sound that natural?
26. Battle droids. I like 'em.
27. The Podrace. Would have been the highlight of the movie, if not for...
28. The Duel of The Fates. Best fight ever in cinema history.
29. The DOTF music. I love it. Love it love it love it.
30. Oh, and all the other music too.
31. Ian McDiamid.
32. Anakin and Padme's first meeting
33. And the smile they share at the end.
34. Oh, and the way Padme's dress at the end makes her look like an angel.
35. Shmi. I think she's one of my favourite characters actually...

38. The parade at the end. And the music...I didn't even know at first it was an upbeat version of the Emperor's theme...
39. Qui-Gon's 'Oh, I won. Imagine that.' innocent look after the chance cube lands on blue.
40. The title of the movie. I think it's clever.
41. The meaning of the words of the Duel Of The Fates. ('Under the tongue root a fight most dread, and another raging inside in the head.' or something along those lines.)
42. The battle droid that goes 'Doh!' Simpsons-style.
43. R2's mournful beeping noise at the funeral.
44. And Jar Jar's upset expression.
45. The way Padme says 'You're a Gungan, aren't you?'. Dunno why...
46. "Jar Jar Binks, I need your help."
47. "Mesa, Your Highness?" I always feel like saying 'Well, I don't see many other Jar Jar Binkses around here, do you?'
48. "Your apprentice, Skywalker will be." and the Imperial March...
49. The thing that Padme, Qui, Shmi and Jar Jar watch the Podrace from.
50. All the conversations between Qui and Shmi
51. After Obi apologizes for his behaviour, Qui puts a hand on his shoulder. I love the relationship between those two.
52. "Sell me?!"
53. Qui's Jedi robes. They're darker in colour than Obi's. Random nifty detail.
54. The Jedi Council
55. And the Jedi Temple. I love the first shot we get of it. And I love the second shot we get of it even more.
56. Sidious using lots of S sounds.

I'm a moderate basher and had some serious issues with TPM. That being said, I do own the DVD, watch the movie occasionally and for most part enjoy many parts of the movie.

I enjoyed reading your list.

 

I should really see if I can come up with 100 things I love about The Phantom Menace. Although probably all of them would be Tarpals related in some way.

And no, I am not obsessed!

Here, I'll make it easy: If you want to know what I like about TPM then pop it in your DVD player and watch it from the opening titles to the ending credits and that will pretty much cover everything.

Oh, and Qui-Gon Jinn is the coolest Jedi in the entire saga.

 

Well, Durwood, it would be cool to see your list of those key moments that stood out for you above all the others.

I like the entire movie too, but it is kinda cool to read how people have different lists and what people appreciate or notice.
